I always wanted to stay at the Atomic Motel and finally got my chance. There are so many of these two-story motels left over from the 50's, most in sad shape. But the Atomic Motel met my expectations with period furnishings and well-kept rooms. I had new carpet, fresh paint, clean linens tho not "plush". Plenty of power receptacles and the plumbing, heat and lights all worked. The theme furnishings make this basic accommodation better than the chain motels. and yes, the wall art is hilarious. Dogs are allowed in some rooms, not much for dog walking though as the landscaping is just a parking lot, and it is in the urban part of town. I found the clerk helpful and a fountain of information on the area. The "breakfast bar" isn't much but a helpful snack to take to the beach. A breakfast diner shares the parking lot and there are taverns and eateries nearby. The Atomic Motel is a great value for the travelor on a budget.

We stayed here for one night, as we had come to Astoria to see a show at the Liberty Theater. I really enjoy classic motor lodges, the theme seemed cute, and the affordable price was appealing. The staff were very courteous and check-in was relatively quick and easy. The property is obviously older and a little rough around the edges, but definitely not seedy or sketchy in any way. There is an excellent sushi restaurant around the corner and a mini mart nearby for basic provisions. The room had some kitschy style that was fun, and the microwave, refrigerator, and coffee maker are all good amenities. Things were in good working order. There were two things that kept this from being a great experience. The first was the weird parking situation. When we returned from our night at the show, the parking lot was full and we had to park in the Pig & Pancake lot next door. I didn't feel okay parking at a neighboring business without permission, but we didn't have a lot of options. They took our license plate at check-in, so I assumed that spaces were accounted for. At any rate, it was fine and I moved my car early in the morning. I just don't like having to guess about parking. The second, and more annoying aspect of the stay, was the pervasive smell of wet dog in our room. The surfaces in the room seemed clean enough, but the smell hit us like a ton of bricks when we opened the door. We opened both front windows and the bathroom window to air it out, and we slept like that the whole night. I could still smell it when we left. I knew they mentioned a pet fee on their paperwork at check in, but I had (wrongly) assumed that pet-friendly rooms were separate from normal rooms. Obviously not the case here, and I don't want to sleep somewhere that a dirty dog has been rolling around in. For this reason alone, I don't see myself staying here again. I'll pay a little more for rooms that don't stink somewhere else.

I really wanted to like this place. I support small businesses and appreciated that they were able to revamp an old space using accent pieces. However, my experience here was terrible. When my partner and I arrived to drop off our bags at the motel, we noticed a tv blaring in the next room over. We shrugged it off and went out for some food. Upon our return, the tv was still blaring. We thought that for sure, whoever was in that room would need to sleep at some point. Alas, the tv blared all night and, given that the front desk closes at 9, there wasn't much we could do. Adding insult to injury, we couldn't even drown out the noise with our own tv as it unfortunately did not work. The next morning, I wrote a text to the motel line that had contacted me about my reservation, informing them of the issue. They didn't respond. So, my partner went to the front desk and let them know that we barely slept due to a blaring tv, which we suspected by morning was in an unoccupied room. They said they'd seen the text and confirmed that the room was unoccupied. The person who'd cleaned the room must have left it on. My counter to that excuse is to ask: what amount of crack does one have to take to not notice that the tv is cranked up full volume as they leave the room? What's worse is the lack of response we got to our complaints. They blamed us! They said we should have called the emergency line to which we responded that this did not seem appropriate. I would have ignored the broken tv and the wildly uncomfortable bed and the paper thin walls had the staff seemed at all concerned with the wellbeing and (relative) comfort of their guests. One more tidbit. I was bitten by a spider there. I was itching the whole way home and developed a lump the next day (see photo). What an appropriate souvenir from a disaster of a motel.

Love this place! I usually stay at Best Westerns and this ain't one of them! But if you feel like a break from the la-de-dah chain motels this place will suit you. Pretty expensive for a place with no air conditioning, massive amounts of road noise 7x24, no hair drier and so on. But, it's handy to everything and the staff is just super. Rooms and lobby are all decorated in period (50's) furnishings. Parking is a bit sparse although they allow overflow parking at the restaurant across the way. I'm never too keen to have my car that far out of view though. They have a faux free breakfast consisting of tiny muffins and imitation coffee. Luckily, the pig n' pancake is right across the parking lot. $170 incl. tax for one Summer night, mid-week so not at all inexpensive. However, Astoria being the tourist trap that it is, you can easily pay north of $300 for a not especially wonderful room off season, mid-week.

Very friendly staff, clean comfortable rooms. Within walking distance for what I wanted to see.

I don't know where to start. First I will comment on the staff. The carefree atmosphere made it very difficult to get anything you need. There were no smiles and they seemed to be more concerned with smoke breaks. Second, let's talk about the continental breakfast.... That is a JOKE. You get a mini muffin or a pack of oatmeal. There is a keurig for coffee however, you must not utilize the water warmer with the keurig as it will blow the breaker in the back. This will upset the staff. Third, room.... Oh dear Jesus! The rooms look as if they were repaired by a blind man painting a Mona Lisa. Outlets do not work, the smokers lounge is right next to a room and you need your windows open due to the establishment not having air conditioning. Therefore, if you want to chance cancer from the secondhand smoke you will inhale that's the room for you. You must be cautious with the window in the bathroom being open. Happy citizens of Oregon walking by can see you plain as day and will give a wave. Be sure to wave back with a grunt if you are the lovely continental breakfast.

Pleasantly surprised, super clean and pretty quiet for being on a main drag. Cute retro decor, comfortable bed and just below a $100 on a Thursday night. Will definitely recommend!

While we were already excited based on the photos online, the reality of the experience surpassed every expectation from the moment we arrived. As soon as we stepped out of the car, we were greeted by the iconic sound of sea lions barking below the pier which immediately set a perfect maritime tone for our stay. The service began with a level of care that was truly impressive. The staff valeted our car and even ensured it was fully charged while parked, which was such a thoughtful and convenient touch. Heidi handled our check in with such warmth and professionalism that we felt like honored guests right away. We were delighted to be upgraded to a suite and the accommodations were stunning. One of the highlights was having the sauna pods right outside our door on the pier. It was an invigorating and peaceful experience that made the stay feel like a luxury retreat. Each morning, we had a lovely "breakfasts with a view" of yogurt, berries, cheese, hard boiled eggs, quiche, peanut butter, and biscuits. Although the kitchen range is not to be used for actual cooking, we were told it is fine for reheating, and found it perfect for our biscuits, quiche and ...chocolate chip cookies! Though a bit on the pricey side, we found walking to the Astoria Co-op wonderful for breakfast foods (and ice cream). The apartment was nicely cleaned, and the simple decor was perfect! We also enjoyed the little snacks in the fridge. Please note that the spacious, modern with historical ambiance apartment, in an incredibly gorgeous and convenient location more than makes up for the inconveniences discussed below. But I am including them in hopes the Norblad wants to perfect the experience, and also so guests might be aware. 1. While the gorgeous, huge windows lining two sides of this apartment provided lots of light and views, they do not stay up, and when we arrived in mid-July, all the blinds & curtains were left open and the afternoon sun had baked the 7th floor apartment. With creative engineering to keep the windows up, little air came into the bedroom and sleeping was made even more difficult due to the street noise. Availability of a window box fan instead of the floor tower fan which barely moves air would have helped immensely! Between closing all the drapes/blinds before heading out for the next day's adventures which kept the apartment cooler, and placing the small, round (dusty) fan we borrowed from the Norblad in front of the one bedroom window we propped open with a book, sleeping was improved due to the cool night airflow and the fan's white noise masking the street sounds. The bedding was quite comfortable, but the mattress was quite soft. And while the towels were also very soft, they were barely absorbent. (If the hotel uses fabric softener for towels, I'd suggest stopping as it is counterproductive to absorbency.) 2. Concerning Trash & Recycling, info about what can be recycled, and where to put our T/R would have been helpful instead of letting our can get full for the cleaning staff to dump. 3. Please consider installing a wall hung coat rack as there is no closet available near the entry. I imagine that on rainy days, hangin wet jackets would especially be appreciated. 3. Maintenance overdue: * The freezer is due for defrosting. Heavy ice buildup put strain on appliances. * The bathroom sink does not drain properly. * The toilet paper holder is missing from the wall, presumably where the two large holes in the drywall remain. (If not already done, perhaps the cleaning staff could be tasked with or reminded to let maintenance know when things need attention.)
