This is a historic hotel in a busy downtown Astoria area. Parking is a little weird for a hotel. It's street parking only and they have one spot in front to unload and check in. Then it's 2 hour parking only during certain hours. Then you need to move your vehicle to locate an all day or overnight parking spot. Now the hotel has creaky floors, no air conditioning and single pane windows. The room we stayed in is right off the Main Street across from the karaoke bar that is open until 2:20am. The patrons are very loud, screaming, honking their horns on their cars and yelling until 3:30am. Two very long nights with not a lot of sleep. There is a coffee shop & breakfast place attached that has great food. The little lobby is cute and has games and puzzles if you feel like hanging out there. Our room did have a comfortable bed, a couch, a small closet to hang a few clothes and store your bags and it did have a restroom. read more

A lot of people have written in to say they weren't pampered the way they wanted. Well, did you read the website, like, at all? TL/DR: crisp, minimalist rooms and amenities with nice, funky, particulars, combined with another outpost of the Broder empire, make this an ideally located, charming, basic place to crash, and our favorite in Astoria. In a very European fashion, the Commodore provides stripped, minimalist rooms, (with some of the best pillows I can recall in a hotel) with excellent social accommodations and a level of charm you won't find in any corporate hotel. Are the hours a little wonky? Yeah. But I had no problem navigating the late check-in, since they contact you and ask if that's what you'll need. There could be more amenities, but this used to be aimed at the digital-nomad-cum-wanderer younger crowd as a part of the defunct Selina organization. Don't know how much of the previous special stuff remains (checking out a projector and having movies in the lobby was awesome) but I will always have a soft spot for this place. Maybe that's because I've never been pampered and never expect to be. The new ownership has opened the restaurant, Broder Strand, with all of the Scandinavian treats, like the Classic 2 egg I had. Edit: So I've been clued in to the ownership saga of the Commodore. It was owned by the Selina Group when I wrote my first review, then when they went under, it was purchased by the person in charge f the Broder (galactic) empire, but has changed hands again. There are differences, and not many of them are good. There appears to be a general erosion in some of the "little things" like what is stocked in the "honor bar" or whatever it is called. Once there was a good variety, now its just granola bars and half-liter Mexican Cokes. The attentiveness to detail (like refilling the extra towel/robe shelf outside the shared shower rooms never happening) and a missing ceiling lamp globe in the shower room, make me think that the folks who currently own it are not quite hoteliers at heart. I took a star off because of that. They have fixed the wifi, so that's nice, and the access to the Broder Strand in the mornings (and Stranded bar in the evenings) makes it a better place, but that is someone else's labor. They really should do more cross-promotion to reinforce the bond because as it stands, I recommend the restaurant more than the hotel. In the interim, between Selina and now, a manager tried to compensate for all of the fallout from Selina's collapse and the broken reservations and lost trust that came with it. Rooms were all freshly painted, new linens and ceiling fans, tightening up some loose spots. A lot of that ground seems to have been lost and the reviews reflect that. That said, the bones are still strong. A quirky joint in a quirky town. We will always come back here. Until we retire here, that is! read more

I've stayed in a few hotels where there is a shared bathroom down the hall. I've told my husband I'm not down for that anymore. And I might be wrong. This hotel is that style, but the bathrooms were spotless and not busy. The location in downtown also suggests that many guests are just out and about having a good time and not hanging out in the hotel hogging the bathrooms. We certainly were! Our room was small, but just fine and cozy for my spouse and I. Our room included a sink which seems essential if there is no bathroom and was much appreciated. The room was pretty warm so we ended up opening our window all the way which kind of freaked me out because they beautiful old fashioned windows with no screens - I was convinced a bird was going to fly in. Later, my spouse and I agreed that this isn't very kid friendly, but I think this isn't really a hotel that many with littles would choose anyway. The hotel is pup-friendly, though and we were happy to see a few canine guests. The lobby and interiors are cute and we enjoyed a couple cups of coffee in the lobby both days just to soak in the ambiance. The lobby has a little thrift selection of cool items for purchase; a small mini market of snacks and drinks for purchase; and a lending library including games and DVDs which we availed ourselves of. We felt lucky to get our room on a Saturday night during a "holiday" weekend and would definitely stay again! read more

As a city girl, I've been spoiled by 24/7 service and a bare minimum of air conditioning and key amenities. My standards of what a hotel should have vs an airbnb vs a hostel are very different and calling the Commodore a hotel is pushing it. My partner and I got into Astoria at 8pm and were met with locked doors and a number to call. The first call didn't go through and we were left dumbfounded with our luggage outside. Thankfully a couple who was staying at the "hotel" opened the door for us and we were able to wait inside when we received a callback from reception. On the phone, a lady directed us to a lockbox and informed us that we would be staying in room 209. And while I'm used to figuring out the lockbox situation for airbnbs and the like, it wasn't what I was expecting from a hotel. Our private room with a bathroom was spacious, dated, and included all the basic amenities. The shower and the sink were clean but have marks of wear and tear. The bed was a little too soft for my liking. Our biggest complaint was that they only had a fan and no A/C. Thankfully it was cooler that day or else we would have to sleep with the window open. The walls are thin enough even without the windows open so when you open the window, the noise is pretty unbearable (and I had earplugs in!). I guess if you're looking for a place to crash, the Commodore is fine. But if I had known what I was getting into, I would've settled for a cheaper hotel if I was only going to be provided the basics anyway. read more

Location, location, location! Can't beat the location basically in the heart of downtown Astoria. Modernized hotel with old world charm! The hotel has a lot of character and just a great vibe. They lobby area is great for sitting around and having a drink or reading a book by the fireplace or just people watching. There is a tiny front desk to check in but they offer free dvds to watch and free games to play and even have a little clothing rack with cheap quality items for sake. There is even a little snack bar you can buy basic snacks at if you get hungry. The restaurant is Brōder which is a well known chain of Scandinavian restaurants which means delicious food. The gentleman at the front desk was very friendly. The front desk isn't always manned but I think it is during checkin time only. There are three floors but only the 2nd and 3rd have rooms. There is an elevator or stairs to get to the room. Because of the location the only parking is street parking which has a two hour limit up u til something like 5 pm and free all day on Sundays. It wasn't a problem for us since we only stayed overnight on a Saturday. This is the kind of hotel that is probably good for a 1-2 night stay for most people. There is a temp 15 min spot in front of the hotel to unload your vehicle. The room itself was small with no closets and a ridiculously tiny television that had a built in DVD player. It did the job but I think they can do better. The screen was just larger than my 17" laptop. Lol. The room was clean and comfortable but just basic. No safe. No closet but a couple of hooks to hang something. There is a sink in the room. They could have allowed two end tables in the room but only had one which was annoying. A hotel this old doesn't have central AC or any AC for that matter. There is a ceiling fan. Our early June stay was a bit warm in the room, even with the ceiling fan. There was a radiator for heat but it was turned off. I had to open the window, but I must warn you that there is no safety mechanism to prevent you from falling out the window and it is a 2 floor drop. Feels like a lawsuit waiting to happen. Therefore I wouldn't recommend this place if you have small kids unless you don't open the window. Also, if you are a light sleeper, this place may be an issue as you can hear the street noise. Luckily I'm a heavy sleep so no issues. Shared a Showers (2) and shared toilets (1mens and 1 women's) were clean and well stocked with TP. Still given the charm, the affordable price, and the location, it's a good place and I would stay here again with the caveat that you aren't a light sleeper and it's not a 90+ degree day and you don't have small kids. The only other issue I had was no WiFi. Somehow I thought it was advertised but I could not find any SSID and signs anywhere with info or a password. Therefore I concluded there is no WiFi here. read more

Extremely loud and no staff available after 5pm. I wasn't able to sleep at all with all the noise from outside and inside the building. Room -stains on the sheets, a chipped sink, and the door knob and lock were put on by a few screws. Especially as a woman, it did not feel safe, anyone could have pushed on the door and it would have broken the door knobb/lock or even the flimsy door itself. Don't spend your money here! read more

You get what you pay for; it's downtown and at first glance, looks nice, A restaurant attached to the down stairs, pet friendly, and affordable. The guy at the front was super nice but he's only there till 5, after that, no one is on site. The walls are extremely thin, outside is loud as hell. Someone knocked on my door at 10pm, wrong room but I can hear them talking 5 min later on their room. The detached bathroom and shower were nice & clean. If you have a dog with you, good luck walking around finding a good place for your dog to handle business. The restaurant was closed at night and only open for a few hours in of the days during the day. Parking is wherever you can find it and make sure to move it every two hours until after 4pm. The rooms are small but if you spend no time in the room besides to sleep, manageable. I prob wouldn't stay here again, but if you can do noise and on a budget, solid place. read more

Stayed for a Friday night in early February. Had a wonderful time. The hotel was nearly empty, it seemed there were only 2 other guests? We had the larger top-floor room with the private bath. The heaters cranked up nice and toasty. There was a small problem with no wifi, but Chris at the desk took care of us in the morning; it wasn't a problem at all. The location is very convenient to all the local breweries and the river walk. Definitely will stay again. We will probably try a room without the bath; I walked down the hall and checked out the shared shower (nice and large) and bath (very clean). Both looked great. Really enjoyed staying at the Commodore. Note: We were here in the off-off season, and it wasn't yet Ft George's Festival of Dark Arts. I have no idea how crowded the Commodore gets during the busy season. But will say again, this was an excellent stay! read more

We arrived at a late check in. Our first room was not clean. We went downstairs, called management, they gave us a different room to try, wasn't cleaned. Then they upgraded our room without up charging us cause that was the only room available. Then... the next day when me and my husband were on a walk, they called me, telling me I had to switch rooms cause they had someone booked for that room later that day. Chris said, " please be be back before noon" so they could get that room ready for the new guest". This place is a shit show. Chris is very nice, but good god. What the hell. We stayed two nights here and loved it. I was a little concerned about the shared bath room and shower but honestly we never had an issue at all. Never once was someone in the bathroom when I needed to use it. That was the biggest thing I worried about when my fiance told me about this place. The building overall is SUPER cool. I loved the older style to the building. Our room was a tad small but we booked last minute and got what was available. I will say for two suitcases there just wasn't anywhere to store our stuff so it was a tad crammed. They have a cute coffee bar on each floor. Downstairs they also have food and drink items that you can charge to your room which we absolutely did! Staff was friendly. I will say we did not have our room cleaned which was odd but ok by us. The location of this hotel is perfect. It is down town and we walked to everything we wanted to do which I loved. We didn't drive the car for two whole days while we were down there. Parking was tough but so is all of Astoria downtown. read more

I can't get in. I thought I reserved a room on their site for tonight. Apparently somehow their site somehow defaulted to the current date June 5 and reserved my room for that night instead of tonoght, June 26. Here I am now June 26 needing a room and arriving in the eve. I called the # on their door and the person who claims to be the manager and owner says they have the same type of room to accommodate me but wants to charge me 2x. Why should I be charged 2 times when their website was janky ? These people have no class, decency, compassion or sense of responsibility for their janky site. I have no other choice than to drive 2 hours back home to Olympia....or sleep in my car. Then tomorrow an 8-hour drive from Olympia to where I need to be on the Oregon coast. tomorrow. This is more like 3.5 stars. When I booked the Selina Commodore, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by the service, location, and overall aesthetic of the hotel. Those are the 3.5 stars I'm giving. There were, however, some issues that I couldn't overlook, and I probably won't stay again despite all the good here. The Good Service - The service here is top notch. We were arriving to our check-in late and the front desk called to ask when. They let us know that there would be a number to call after hours, and they were super nice and accommodating about that. We then received a text letting us know our keys would be in the lockbox when we arrived. I really loved that as a touch. It's so much easier of a check-in. In the morning, when I couldn't figure out how to turn on the shower, I was freaking out and felt bad about calling the after hours person, but they were also really kind about the situation and it was resolved right away. (If you need to shower, pull down on the water spout of the tub faucet.) Location - This hotel is the most central I've ever stayed in Astoria. It is attached to the 14th street cafe that opens at 7 and has its own entrance. It was so easy in the morning. On the same block are multiple restaurants and bars. It's just a block away from the docks along with breweries and more restaurants. It's just a block and around the corner from Fort George, one of my favorite places in Astoria. If you have dogs like me, it's so easy to walk straight to the pier with them in the morning and enjoy views of the river. It's absolutely beautiful, and I appreciated that so much. Interior Design - This hotel is so beautiful and perfectly designed for a combined modern, hipster hotel and old, traditional nautical feel. I was so impressed by the room we stayed in (209). I'm used to dingy coastal hotels costing a ton of money. This room was worth every penny of the deal we got, complete with a full sofa and coffee table. It also had seemingly original wooden windows (no screens) that were gorgeous. The bathroom was also very on par with the location, even though the paint was peeling off of the sink, I found it had charm. The Bad Noise level - If you stay here, for the love of everything good, do not stay on the second floor. Having people above you moving around and slamming things on those beautiful hardwood floors brought me back to the horrors of living in an apartment in a pre-war building in New York. It is NOISY. The Commodore should really, really consider adding multiple padded rugs underneath the beautiful wooden bed frames. I had the pleasure of hearing my upstairs neighbors getting it on for hours when I had to be up at 6 am. Those beautiful wooden bed frames SHOULD NOT be directly placed on those beautiful hardwood floors. I could hear every. single. thrust. It was horrifying and so, so damn loud. The sound was worse than nails on a chalkboard. Please, Commodore, I beg you, place multiple bed-frame-sized rugs under a larger padded rug under those bed frames. I would consider coming back if this was done. Clogged Bathtub - I also had the pleasure of standing in water that reached my calves because the drain of bathtub in our room was clogged like an animal died in there. It was disgusting. Not even shower shoes could save me, but I absolutely had to wash my hair to get ready for the day. Heat - The Commodore does not have AC -- just those beautiful wooden windows with no screens. It is HOT on a warm-ish day. It was only 70 something when we were there, and the room was steamy. It would be great to stay at during the fall/winter when you can keep the windows closed and crank up the original steam heater. I didn't understand how to use it, but it was a cool touch to have the original heating. It also reminded me of New York. Overall, I was so sad about the bad here because upon walking into the hotel and then into the room, again, I was soooo damn impressed. But I really can't bring myself to stay here again without a guarantee that there are rugs underneath those beds and working bathtub drains. I would only stay during the fall/winter. read more

Quirky small hotel in the center of Astoria. The building dates from the 1920s, as do most of the buildings in the area. Astoria was at one point a major port city, with its heyday seemingly in the 1920s. Shortly after that, the city fell on hard times and pretty much dried up. The final blow was the construction of a bridge that eliminated the need for a ferry between Astoria and Washington. It has in more recent years reinvented itself as a fun tourist destination, with lots of shops, restaurants, brewpubs, bakeries, cannabis dispensaries, and a truly excellent maritime museum. But I digress. The Commodore Hotel started as a men's hotel back in the 1920s. By the look of it, it was never luxurious; the rooms are small, and most do not have their own bathrooms. The hotel closed in 1964 and stayed closed until the current owners bought it in 2005. The place was a time capsule; during refurbishment they found beds still made up, old books and magazines, and even luggage; all had been left behind when the place closed. The hotel is decorated in part with large black and white photos showing things that were found when it was being refurbished. The refurbishment changed the character of the place. The rooms are still very small and spare, but they are impeccably finished, with expensive surfaces (like marble). The shared baths and separate showers are similarly upscale. In an odd twist, each of the two rooms we stayed in over our two visits was equipped with a hand-cranked pencil sharpener. I opened one of them and found pencil shavings. I'll bring my pencil next time. The lobby is eclectic, with a wall filled with books, games, and bits of the hotel taken from the refurbishment. The staff was friendly and helpful. We were curious about the tiny hotel bellhop uniform hanging behind the reception desk. That turns out to belong to a toddler associated with the hotel staff; the child's grandmother made the outfit, which the child liked to wear while learning to walk. They use actual metal keys, one for the room and one for the outside door, which is locked after 10:00 p.m. The rooms have no refrigerators, but we were able to use the one behind the reception desk. read more

The rooms were very cute, and I paid a little extra for my own bathroom, but the shared showers and bathrooms looked clean as well so I could have easily gone with that option. I picked it knowing it was a hostel style, so keep that in mind if you aren't wanting a hostel environment, but with that being said it felt more like a hotel. If I could give it a zero I would. I'm not the kind of person who ever leaves reviews, but I'm seriously annoyed and angry. I booked a reservation for early June only to randomly look the hotel up online and find out that its permanetly closed. Now I can't reach anyone and there is a no refund policy. It was better than I was expecting after reading other's reviews. It helped that we were on the top floor bc apparently first and second floor have a lot of issues with overhead sound when people are walking around above them. The room was cute, like a tiny apartment. It had a mini fridge and a microwave which was nice bc the first night we ended up getting take out and not eating it all. There was a fan provided which we used at night for street traffic noise. The bed was comfortable although the blanket was rather thin and the sheets kind of stiff. The pillows were also very poor quality, I was thanking my lucky stars that I brought my own. The room was very clean other than the fiddle leaf fig- all it's leaves were super covered in dust. I get so bad for it that I almost took the time to clean its leaves but didn't end up having enough time. I did end up watering it, though. It's soil was desert dry! Front desk service was awesome all three days we were there. Very friendly and helpful. All in all the hotel is fairly bare bones but provided everything we really needed. I don't have any serious complaints about it. I would stay here again, but only on the top floor. read more

If I had to sum up my stay here in one word, it would be "unimpressed." The staff was polite enough, but our room had about a 15 degree slant to the floor and the thin windows did nothing to keep out the noise which starts very early in the morning. That said, they do provide ear plugs. One of the towels we were issued had a hole in it and the housekeeper had missed some trash under the coffee table, but the room was clean and comfortable otherwise. We also couldn't get the TV to work to save our lives, and didn't want to bother the offsite manager after hours. Perhaps providing some instruction on how to operate it would be helpful to future guests. I wasn't bothered by the street only parking situation which requires guests to move their cars every two hours after 9am, but it was definitely odd to stay in a hotel with none of its own parking, especially in the US, especially in Oregon. As a digital nomad just setting out on my adventure, I had hoped to make Selina's around the world my new home on the go, but this experience has caused me to seriously question whether this is the right brand to go with. read more

I loved my stay at the Saline Commodore so much that I booked an extra night! I had a standard suite with my own restroom and shower, but checked out the shared facilities and everything was very clean and nice! Absolutely loved the mattresses, chill sofa and shared DVD and record collections accessible to all the guests. This is hands down the best bang for your buck in Astoria and worth every penny read more

I had booked a room via Expedia and was so excited to have an evening at the coast. Schedules and weather got in the way. I had moved the reservation out a week and then, sadly had to cancel, hoping to rebook when my schedule cleared up. I called Friday afternoon for the Sunday booking. I would have happily paid a cancellation fee, but not expecting such rude customer service. I spoke to Kim from the property, who reported to me that I would not be getting any refund as they had already accommodated the change in dates, which I was paying for. The Cancellation policy calls for 48 hour free cancellation. Go figure. I guess that's all the money they'll ever get from me. read more

This is a great spot in Astoria! Even with the challenges of Covid-19, I have to give prompts to staff for being so kind and helpful. The queen suite room I had was large and very comfortable way worth the price. The bed great, the windows a plenty, and views great, the bathroom large. It's a perfect location. Bonuses...DVR in TV...amazing selection of movies and an elevator. I was on the 3rd floor loved it. Plus Cafe 14 downstairs is super! Those guys are so nice kudos to them for being awesome in COVID-19 times. I will be back. read more

Clean, funky, small, comfortable hotel that is incredibly inexpensive and is conveniently located. The bath was down the hall and I was glad they provided robes. The room was sparse but pleasant and it had a sink and chair in addition to the bed. I felt like I'd stepped back in time to early last century. We enjoyed the feeling. The hotel clerk was great, offered helpful tips, and told us all about the records and movies we could freely borrow. Before tax, our double bed room cost $39. The only reason I gave it 4 rather than 5 stars was because the pillows were too big and hard for my picky taste. I could have asked for a different one, but was too tired to bother. Next time I'll remember to bring my goose down pillow We will definitely stay here again. (And it's only a block away from the sensational Carruthers restaurant) read more

We come to Astoria often, and decided to try this hotel out instead of our usual place because the rooms looked nice and the location was excellent. They baited and switched us on room rates, and we will NOT be booking here again. Last week, we called to book a room. Selina sent an offer quote for a $237 standard room with a bathroom included. We booked immediately. The next day, however, our booking confirmation said that we were charged $237 for a private room with a SHARED bath. We considered the cheaper room previously, and it was listed for $167 (NOT $237). No problem - mistakes happen, so we called to get it corrected. I spent over an hour chatting with the customer service rep and got nowhere. I called the Astoria location directly, and the staff said they would look into it and get back to me. I received a call the next day that basically said '$237 is the price (of the lesser room) now - take it or leave it. You are welcome to cancel your reservation if you do not like it.' Trouble is that by that point, all the rooms in town were booked, so they knew we had no other options. If they would have charged us for the cheaper room, that would have been fine. Instead, they chose to opportunistically cheat us out of a little bit of money. Like I said, we will NOT be back. From now on, we will stick to our regular hotel, which is just down the street with the same boutique feel and similar rates. For what it is worth, the receptionist while we were there was kind and helpful. The hotel was very walkable to shops, restaurants, breweries, and the pier. The room itself was very cute, though obviously not what we signed up for. read more

Dang, but this place made me fall in love with Astoria. We booked a euro-style cabin room last minute. That means you have no view, and the bathroom is down the hall (and also the room is cheaper). The room comes stocked with robes for the short walk down the hall, and the separate bathrooms are close and classy--several half baths, and several private rooms with spacious showers. Also, this place is super hip, but in an inclusive, friendly way (they even made us a welcome card!) They're all about records, and have records and players to check out downstairs. The lobby is a cozy hang out spot, with a local beer on tap in the evening and coffee in the morning, gratis. The hotel is right in the middle of downtown, and the attached cafe is great. I'm already planning a winter getaway here. read more

Room was immaculately clean. Vintage remodel with a Scandanavian modernist feel. Read the write up on www.dwell.com as well as other blogs on internet. Very much reminded me of the Ace Portland... only a bit over half the price. $89 for room 306 (a deluxe with private bathroom) on a Friday nite was a steal. Room was discounted for "noise." Purposely went the nite sans earplugs just to see exactly how noisy it would be. There were at least three times I heard a loud vehicle, but did not notice any ship noises. I suspect that noise is more of an issue in the summer when windows are open. In the winter, it was certainly manageable. Did not hear any neighbors but could also be because room was at the end of a hallway. Original heaters provided plenty of heat. Bed was comfortable. Ipod docking alarm clock was compatible with the Iphone 4 and provided charging. Pickaboo view of the water. 4 windows. Free videos for flat panel TV/DVD (with all of the Astoria as backdrop videos in stock). Free Wi-Fi could be stronger as we had trouble getting it on third floor. But given the great rate, easy to overlook. Astoria was beautiful with plenty of excellent eating options walking distance. Parking was free and plentiful after 6 pm. Front desk was friendly. This hotel reminds me of the Ace hotels, old buildings remodelled and converted into funky, unique guest accommodations. We came down to Astoria for an overnight holiday and stayed in one of the available suites. Each floor has a few larger rooms with private washrooms while other rooms are smaller and utilise the communal washrooms at the ends of the hallways. Friendly and welcoming staff, who are on the premises 24/7, greeted us upon our arrival. You will have to park on the street which says "2hr limit" but we were told that the limit isn't really enforced; lucky for us that turned out to be true. It is a bit noisy as establishments surrounding the Commodore have bands playing and/or patrons are outside. We found ear plugs in the nightstand to block out some noise. It's a lovely hotel and there's a nice coffee shop attached. I would most certainly stay here again if/when returning to Astoria. read more

We loved The Commodore! We stayed in one of the suites with private bathroom (308) so I can't speak to the shared bathroom experience - but we loved our room (and our shower!). Clean, modern and fresh design, while still feeling cozy and welcoming. Comfortable bed and linens. Towels were soft. I thought the price was totally reasonable for everything you get - the same hotel in Portland would probably cost at least $50 more. It's true there's no A/C, but fans are available if you just ask at the front desk - and if you leave the windows open the room stays quite cool anyway. It's also true that there is a fair amount of noise on the streets below - but there are also ear plugs available at the front desk, too! I felt like it was very clear when I made my reservation online that some rooms don't have bathrooms - that's why we chose one of the suites that did! I didn't feel like anything was misrepresented by The Commodore, including the street-noise - which is very clearly explained when you book your room. Everyone at the desk was really nice, but we had one guy in particular who checked us in and gave us a list he had compiled of local restaurants and things to do. We took him up on a few of his suggestions, including Fort George Brewery and The Voodoo Lounge (both within walking distance, yay!) and we were not disappointed! Also love that there's a (great) coffee shop right downstairs - so convenient in the mornings! We will definitely be staying at The Commodore any time we are in Astoria, and will recommend others to do so, as well! read more

Hybrid accommodation? or 'Shoe Box' habitat? Not a 'backpackers' because nowhere to make yer own cuppa or snack in a shared kitchen. (we have these in NZ. LOTS of em!) Not a motel either. Not a bnb as u don't get brekky here, Not exactly a "hotel" lacks 'services" our room was very small / spartan, world class shower down the hall, clean tidy loo next to that...which is fine...they were both excellent, just not IN our room...which didn't have room to 'swing a cat'...(no offence meant to cat lovers)...and we're ok with that because shower was SO GOOD!) Old approx 1920's? refurbished recently building in cbd. More on the 'room': so cramped! No ventilation unless one opens the window a crack....it's stuffy and warmish, actually the hallways feel better as they are FRESH air places. Bed was a double...a tad soft, but we slept ok...., learned that an "upgrade" for $10 gets u a queen, maybe the room is a tad larger?...we didn't have space for luggage racks and bumped into one another, reminded me of HongKong/Tokyo budget accommodation back in the 80's. Another reviewer referenced the word 'CABIN'...we travelled / sailed the Pacific from New Zealand to east coast America on board a freighter for 28 days last year, and our rooms were LARGER than Commodore's! That's on a SHIP, people! Much bigger actually! Nothing in room like a fridge or kettle..... it's VERY BASIC: bed, wash basin/ mirror, waste paper basket, luggage rack (which IF u open it makes the room tinier!) 'Shoe box' analogy Anyone reading this old enough to remember the Monte Python '4 Yorkshire men' skit? " we had it tuff"? "We used to live in 'shoebox' in middle o road" WiFi signal here is powerful and much appreciated. We looked at our laptop 17" inch screen through the Wi-Fi and watched youtube. similar size as the in room flatscreen connected to full on COMMERCIALS every 5 min tv...not our scene, sorry. And we're not beer drinkers so the lobby at check in did not resonate. conclusions: everything feels CLEAN, a big plus in budget accommodation. Except what was presented as boutique....really is NOT that, though it's marketed that way. staff was friendly and placed our cold things in their fridge, and our frozen "slicka pad' in their freezer...a plus for us. couldn't make a snack or cuppa = minus. value: it's 40% over my perception of msrp (imho) for backpacker type accommodation. Parking on street no prob arrived post 1800h departed pre 1100h. Centre of town location = lots of dining choices ON FOOT is a plus. rating? tuff to quantify, it's NOT 4 or 5 on the scale because of the high price point. (usd100$ plus) not 'poor' either which leaves only 3 stars as a reasonable score.... I'd like to score 2.5 based on price - value ratio...can't.... so it's a weak 3....at best....... only because of my industry experience & the cleanliness (impressively cleaned everything in the old building and all it's public areas and our room) read more

I completely support any organization that doesn't feel safe operating during this period of time, (COVID-19) what I can't get behind is essentially no customer service. I made a reservation 2 months before my stay, (riding out to Astoria) and another reservation for my sister-in-law a week before our arrival. We had our confirmations and left on our bike trip. We rode up to the Commodore to find a note saying they decided to close. No communication had been sent alerting us to this, and that day their reservation system was still up and running. No one answered the phone, (not surprising of course) and no one returned an email. I am sure this is a nice little spot but I can't support a place that won't do the basics to help travelers. There are a lot of nice little places to stay in Astoria, I would recommend checking them out instead. read more

The "cabin" room without private bath really delivers a great value. All the staff is genuinely friendly and engaged in us having a great stay. We brought in three records to add to their vinyl collection and saved 15%. Shared bathrooms are nicely designed, spacious, and plenty for the few rooms that share them. Free local beer at happy hour, good coffee in the morning, and record players and movies to check out make this place a grand slam with the lovely modern design of the interiors. After searching around for a bit (rental houses, bed and breakfasts, etc.) the Commodore won our money. Sue picked it out and it looked nice from the pictures. Plus it was in the "heart" of "downtown" Astoria and therefore close to everything. What isn't close to everything in Astoria? I'm not sure. Didn't look like much from the outside. A nice power wash might help that out. Once we walked in we were very happy with our choice. A nook to the right upon walking in the front door with a small library and a few couches leads to a coffee shop. I didn't so much care about the coffee shop, but Sue did. The front desk is there on the left and the gentleman that checked us in was very friendly. He even gave us a rundown of some of his favorite spots in Astoria to eat as we asked. Room keys in hand we headed to the elevator. The room was very simple, but clean. A couch, bed, TV, coffee table, a few lamps on end tables and 2 large windows which we immediately opened. It was a bit warm in the room. Sue's former roommate mentioned he had stayed here one summer night and it was really stuffy inside. He suggested we bring a fan which we did, but they actually have fans that guests can use so no need to bring one of your own. The bed was very comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was perfect. They don't have bottles of shampoo, conditioner or show gel for you to take home. There is a dispenser inside the shower, but you can use as much as you want. We ended up staying in the night we were here as Sue was sick, but they have DVDs that you can check out. There is a list of about 50-75 selections inside one of the end tables that I didn't see until the next morning. They have a list at the front desk too. The girl let me take two, but I'm not sure if that is the norm. I think Sue and I were quite happy with the Commodore. We did end up spending a bit more money to get a room with a bathroom, but there are rooms to be had that don't have bathrooms. There are shared bathrooms so don't feel like you need to bring a bucket. read more

Super disappointed. I've been a fan of the Commodore for more than 10 years. Made a reservation a year ago when leaving from being a guest, no reminder email or anything was sent and was just charged a year later. Not only that but was told that no hotels ever send you reminder emails about an upcoming reservations which I am an business and professional traveler so I know for am certain this is not true.Was told I may get a call back in a few days. I guess new management meant losing all of the personal and professional, fun services I've known. ** update: the manager called to make it right and said they'd only charge me for one night. over a month has passed and they still charged me for two nights. read more

I loved staying here! My GF and I stayed in room 306, which we really liked as you're situated on a corner and have a view of the cool Astor Hotel building, the main street of Astoria, and a little sliver of the water and the bridge. The street noise wasn't much of an issue for us. We left all the windows open a few inches for circulation, and certainly heard a bit of road noise but it wasn't horrible - might be an issue if you're a light sleeper but we were fine. I'm not sure if we had people in the rooms next to us, but if we did we didn't hear any noise from them. The hotel has a really cool vintage vibe which was nice, but is outfitted with modern furniture. The bed was very comfortable, and the iPod dock and wall-mounted TV were nice. The room was very clean and appeared well-taken care of, and had a little seating area with a couch and TV, on the other side of the room from the bed. I loved the location, which was the main attraction. Close to everything, including Fort George, the waterfront, shopping, etc. We could leave our car parked and enjoy the city. The price was certainly fair as well... many of the other hotels in town seem to charge $50 or more per night. read more

Great location and nice rooms. However, no AC so be cautious when you stay during the summer. And if you do your going to want to keep your window open and hear all the wonderful delivery and garbage trucks at 5am EVERYDAY. Also their booking group "selina" is based out of the UK and triggered a fraud alert on my credit card which caused me to have to get a new card during my trip. read more

It's a great place if you're looking for something last minute. They usually have rooms open but the rooms titled "cabins" have shared hallway bathrooms. Everything is REALLY clean, just be sure to bring a pair of sandals if you're not comfortable taking a shower in a shared bathroom. Best thing about the bathrooms is that they're private and not set up like "stalls". You go in, close the door, do your doodie and get out. The only crappy thing is facing someone immediately when you walk out if you take a dump, be on the look out, or more like the "ear out" if you know what I mean ;) Yes, it is loud and you WILL hear people through the night and in the mornings. Get ear plugs if you're sensitive to noise. read more
