We stayed 3 nights at the Boardwalk cottages and I am left with indifferent feelings about the experience. The cottage was cute but had a number of functional issues, among them was the bed area was so narrow that it was difficult to get in and out of the room, the faucet assembly in the kitchenette was so looks that rocked every time you used it, the bathroom door could only be held closed by throwing a bolt on the inside of the door, there was some substance on the floor and walls that looked like mildew, the bathroom window wouldn't open and in the entire time we were there we never once got any towels even though we hung the sign on the door every time we went out. Also the room was very warm, too warm to be comfortable. We come to Long Beach every October, first time we stayed here and not likely to stay again. read more

I'll preface this by saying I haven't officially stayed here yet. We are booked for a stay in September. BACKGROUND: Trying to take our dog on her last vacation. She was recently diagnosed with Degenerative Myopathy that will see her slowly become paralyzed. Her walking is shaky and progressively getting worse. Because of my dogs walking issues, we booked a 2-bedroom cottage as that was the only available option on the GROUND floor. We already paid in full. WHAT HAPPENED: Today, I received a message from Boardwalk Cottages through the Hotels.com app. The message informed us that hotels.com overbooked and they need to downgrade us to a 1 bedroom room on the 2nd floor. I called Boardwalk Cottages to find more info and the person who answered today was right out of the gates argumentative. She interrupted me continuously and said they didn't write the message. I read the message out loud multiple times, then she finally fessed up that they did write the message. Since they moved us to the 2nd floor, I asked if the steps had carpeting or any other kind of non-slip surface. Again, this is because my dog has trouble walking, especially up stairs. The employee kept deep sighing and telling me that she started her shift an hour ago and wasn't sure. I'm just curious what does that have to do with knowing whether or not your stairs have carpeting? I also asked if this forced downgrade means I overpaid now (as I originally booked a 2 bedroom cottage). She said, that's something I have to take up with hotels.com. Hotels.com didn't force me into this room, Boardwalk Cottages did. She then told me she has to let me go because she has customers up front and she doesn't like all the questions I'm asking. She then ended the call with, "I hope your day gets better". How is this person in customer service? Like how? I don't think the questions I was asking were that unreasonable. I was just trying to assess if this forced lodging change would be a burden on my dog. Again, this trip is really important to our family and I feel like Boardwalk Cottages have already put a damper on it by having a rude, untrained employee interacting with customers. I hate when people crap on customer service people, but I have no sympathy when someone in that role is lacking any and all skills in helping a customer. I'm also paying $932 total for 3 nights, so this isn't exactly cheap either. I would expect more from this company, who is affiliated with Adrift down the street. read more

Staff were genuinely friendly and accommodating. This "sister" lodging is a great concept but really feels over priced, especially with its budget feel. The cottage we stayed in had units directly attached on either side, soooo not really a cottage...per se....and without A/C and no way to have a cross breeze, our unit was surprisingly hot and uncomfortable even when the high temp outside was in the low 60's. We did have access to the pool at the Adrift Hotel which was great during the adults only time. Also enjoyed the tasting at their distillery. Location is ok, but seems like the charges reflect beachfront when reality is a gravel drive behind the boardwalk. read more

We stayed in number 7, a deluxe studio, same as the most recent review a couple of weeks ago. Agree with what she said, except I did not care for the shower. It was so small you can barely turn around in it. And when you turn it off and start drying yourself off, all of a sudden it drips a lot of water on you. Twice. I was like ok, lemme just dry off out here I guess lol. The toilet was so low to the ground and required double flushes. The bed was fantastic, had a great nights sleep. The room was clean. I had seen all the pictures and reviews about the free pastries delivered the next morning so we were hoping for some but no one came before 10am and we were hungry so we went elsewhere for that. Check in is at 4pm, at the attached cafe, thankfully someone told us that when we parked. She was very nice checking us in, was told about the distillery which we planned on stopping at until we found out they close at 7pm when we looked it up at 6pm. We already had dinner reservations for 6:30 so we couldn't do that. We did not go to the neighboring hotel but the sauna they have onsite here was clean and nice for two people. More would be awkward. Walking distance to everything you come to experience in Long Beach. We would definitely stay here again now knowing what we learned. read more

My husband and I stayed in number 7, cute little room on the second floor. The bathroom has a window into the main room, which was a little odd but I suppose we've been together long enough to not require bathroom privacy. The jetted tub was relaxing and the little shower was great. The propane heater didn't seem to have a switch that we could find but it looked cute! The bed was a bit stiff but alright. Overall for the price and the central location (walk to the beach/movie theater/restaurants!) I would absolutely stay here again. read more

Our family of three enjoyed our weekend stay here. My partner and I slept on the queen bed and were very happy to have the pull out couch for our daughter to sleep in. The pull out couch was very easy to use and perfect for us to end our nights watching movies. The kitchen drain was a bit of a turnoff as it's not thoroughly cleaned but it wasn't enough to ruin my stay. We did experience a power outage well into our sleep but we were in such small quarters that it didn't really affect us. I was just so impressed and pleased with the service because one of the employees came knocking on our door in the morning to make sure we were okay and had everything we needed. 2 night stay in Deluxe Studio Room 11, March 2022. Very comfortable bed. Nice decor. Jacuzzi tub is deep, powerful with plenty of hot water. Fireplace kept room warm. Fresh scones were delivered to our door. Excellent nearby restaurant- a part of the hotel group - called Pickled Fish, in the nearby Adrfit Hotel. A couple of dings: 1) There is a slight difference in height between the room and the bathroom, but it's enough of one that we kept tripping in the bathroom doorway. 2) No coffee maker, but an electric tea kettle and French press instead. Did not like messing with that when I'm desperately in need of coffee first thing. If it matters to you, I suggest bringing a small coffee maker and that the Boardwalk Cottages consider replacing French press with a regular coffee maker. Otherwise, a comfortable experience and we'd stay again. read more

OUTSTANDING! We just stayed there this last weekend for 3 nights for the first time! We absolutely loved it! SO cute and warm! The staff was welcoming, accommodating and intentive. It's located in a perfect location! Close to beach and downtown, easy relaxing walk! We were able to use the Adrift pool and had two free tasting at their distillery, which was wonderful, we bought 4 different bottles! We definitely recommend this place! I had never seen a refrigerator - sink - cooktop combination before, didn't know that could become one appliance before staying here and that was where the quirky things began. I didn't mind the sloping floors that probably had to do with settling foundation. I didn't mind the gap in the front door that let mosquitos in. I didn't even mind the buckling wood in places where humidity warped it. I didn't like using the bathroom. The toilet seat wasn't properly fastened. The cedar additions in the shower haven't been properly water sealed/protected and when you first walked into the room it smelled musty and moldy from that bathroom. The sloping floors didn't help the shower area one bit because the water can't drain when it's running up against the back of the wall instead. Secondly our room was never serviced during this stay. Not once. We'd come back after a long day at the beach and the sign we left on the door to have the room cleaned I guess went unnoticed. This place wasn't that expensive and it does allow dogs which is why they get at least 1 star. I'll search somewhere else to stay when I come back here one day. I just won't be staying at this place. This place is absolutely adorable! So close to it's sister hotel , Adrift, where you can enjoy all the amenities including the heated pool, free tasting at the distillery, etc. It's very dog friendly, with a field for them to play. We had a lovely time this past Sunday-Tuesday at the Boardwalk Cottages. We stayed in #3 and it was perfect for 2 people. So clean with great in room amenities. They even deliver a pastry basket in the mornings with goodies from the local bakery. The front desk person (I wish I had noted their name) was sooo nice and informative. The nice thing is that they are apart of the Adrift hotel so you can use the amenities at the Adrift as well(we spent a few hours in the heated pool). The cottages are perfectly located just a street off the main road a only a few minutes walking to all the downtown restaurants and the beach. We stayed here about 10 years ago and they have done some nice updates to the property. read more

I want to start by saying that I had planned on going to a different town on the coast but the Boardwalk Cottages popped up and it looked so quaint, I felt like I just needed to come here. I will admit that when I first pulled up I was a little disappointed that it feels like it is in a parking lot. From the ad that popped up and the way it was photographed, it looks like the cottages are right on the beach. I came here to paint and had wanted to see the ocean from my lodging. Oh well. Just know that is not what you are getting. Once I got over the initial reaction, I ended up being quite pleased. It is less than a 5 minute walk to the beach and boardwalk. I enjoyed seeing the grey whale skeleton as well. It is also pretty much on the main strip...the cute part. There are restaurants, snacks, coffee etc right out the door. Marsh's Free Museum and the kite museum are within a few minute walk. I also took a drive to Cape Disappointment, Beards Hollow, Discovery Trail and only a 45 min drive away to the Peter Iredale Shipwreck in Astoria. I loved the nautical theme and modern decor. I really enjoyed the bathtub with jets. I'm tall and rarely find tubs that are so deep and long. I had a very relaxing lavender bath! I was a little bummed that the electric fireplace didn't work (for the ambience). I think with the season change they just didn't check the batteries. They did offer to come check it out at 9pm though. All in all I had a great experience. I loved the no contact check in, the friendly staff, proximity to boardwalk and the complimentary applesauce donuts for breakfast. I will be back! read more

First of all, the name is deceiving - it is not on the boardwalk at all... about a three - four block walk to the boardwalk. Second, the cottages face each other and neighbors are right next door so there is absolutely no privacy. The rest is little stuff: No ice bucket or bowls to empty an ice cube trays into; No coat rack by the door to hang a jacket on in case you came in from the rain/cold. Our cottage was at the back so our bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and dining window views were walls (really nice for $200/night *sarcasm*). If you sit out on the cute little porch to eat or have cocktails, you look at a gravel parking lot and the cottage across from you. To sum it all up: What a waste of money. This place should be no more than $100/night. read more

We enjoyed staying here on our first year anniversary. We stayed in starfish Cottage. Inside of the cottage was a bit outdated but comfortable. Grace who works there and checked us in was wonderful she made us feel right at home and made sure we had everything we needed. If we were to come back we would try some of the other cottages that are much more updated. We had a chance to walk through them because people had checked out. The location was fantastic! Neptune Theater was right across the street. Miniature golf, RaceTrac, horseback riding, and the main drag was only a block away. We do plan on returning next summer. We hope Grace will be there to greet us again! read more

Such a lovely little plane to stay! First time here and it was exactly as described. Pat makes awesome homemade scones, rooms are clean and perfect being one block off the main road. We stayed the whole weekend, rode our bikes on the trail and picked local hotspots for dinner. Great rates and cute little place! They do try to give you a cottage feel but then your neighbor bumps the wall and you remember they are pretty much duplexes. They are nice inside and clean. The fire places don't actually work. It's just a little pilot light in the corner a dirty piece of glass and never any flames. Also, all decks are shared. Sheets and blankets are pretty decent. Towels are average but I think I was disappointed after reading that they were considered soft and fluffy by whoever wrote the notes. It's overall a good place. I do however feel like it's a bit overpriced for what it is. read more

Just wanted to retirate that Adrift or Inn at Discovery Coast ruined the charm, the joy, the peace and the quality of Boardwalk Cottages. Before the buy out, we have stayed at Boardwalk Cottages numerous times, enjoying the nautical themes, the high quality and ocean themed furniture and adornments. We have noticed since the buy out, the sterility and faux modern decor is upsetting and ill placed. Our first stay at Boardwalk since the dramatic changes, has left us disappointed, upset, and very likely never to return to this or other Adrift properties ever again. The cheap ass furniture that you put in the rooms is aweful- not only in quality, but asthetically as well. My husband almost fell through the couch... we had to find boards to put under the cushions so we could actually sit on the couch. We discovered that you've torn up the hot tub and taken away the BBQ.... both of which we counted on, but are now gone - AND not even posted about on the web site. The entire reason we stay at Boardwalk Cottages is gone. We specifically brought food to cook on the now non-existent grill. My goal and excitement of being able to relax in a regular hot tub one which a wealthy person would aquire for their personal use... was destroyed the moment we rolled into the parking lot. Much of what we brought to eat will likely spoil or never be cooked due to the lack of grill. The quiet relaxation that can only be available with a secluded personal hot tub for selected few who stay at Boardwalk Cottages has been pillaged and plundered. This is the primary reason, my husband and I spend the money to stay at Boardwalk Cottages was the amazing unique hot tub and sea themed charm which is the primary and exclusive reason we stay overnight and multiple days and weekends in Long Beach and exclusively Boardwalk Cottages. Unless things change dramatically, Boardwalk Cottages has lost all appeal and charm. The company that took over this property ruined these unique quiet cottages that had wonderful charm and the kind of stay that one craves when someone stays at Boardwalk Cottages. The appeal is gone, it has been destroyed by capitalism. I and my husband will not be coming back. We refuse to patron any place that chooses conformity and eradicates the unique nature of an establishment for personal gain. Our family has been looking forward to these unique aspects of Boardwalk Cottages since the beginning of the year. Our reservation was originally for multiple groups. I am happy that they cancelled, since this special place in Long Beach has been ruined. There is no longer the special hot tub to decompress and relax with friends and family in. There is no longer a BBQ to have a cookout. The cute names of cottages like Seashore or Sand dollar have be switched out for stale gross numbers. We have been forced for download an app to even get into the Cottage. These people even had to replace the regular coffee machine for a French Press that won't even work well with the finely ground coffee that they have supplied, let allow brought in preparation of a drip coffee machine. I have never been so disappointed in my life. We were so looking forward to our stay at Boardwalk Cottages, remembering our past experiences and enjoyment. However, all that excitement, is now bitter disappointment. I know after this experience, we will never stay at an Inn at Discovery Coast such as Adrift, Shelburn Inn, you will never get my money ever again. This company has left me so bitter and let down with their remodel and take over of Boardwalk Cottages that my entire stay was pretty much ruined. Quaint, clean, updated, cozy cottages tucked neatly away, but within convenient walking distance of all the action. Cable, dvd, gas fireplace, full kitchen, dining area, separate bedrooms, comfortable seating area, 3/4 bath (shower only). Overall, comfortably hosts 4, with a pull-out couch expanding to a tight 6. Every morning, the office provides delicious fresh-baked homemade scones. Our only complaint was a certain difficulty in redeeming our reservation. We had purchased the stay through a local school auction and made and confirmed our reservation a year prior, but upon arrival had to reconfirm fresh. Excellent location, just a few blocks from the beach and downtown Long Beach restaurants and shopping. The cottages are super clean, wonderfully decorated and have all the amenities you need from dishes to silver wear as well as coffee pots and coffee. Comfy beds and fluffy white towels. Bill and Pat the owners are fantastic and bake delicious scones or muffins every morning. The landscaping is beautiful too and each cottage has a great porch with chairs and a table for our door relaxing. I highly recommend staying here! read more

It's hard to overstate just how many small details Boardwalk Cottages in Long Beach, Washington gets right. The best way I can convey it, is that I'd never thought about all the small details that they've clearly given much thought to in taking care of their guests. We stayed in the Sandcastle room for four days and three nights. From the perfectly clean living quarters, kitchenette and (to-die-for) two-person jetted tub, to the complimentary large umbrellas, dishware and thoughtful additions like a journal to leave your impressions to future guests, they really did strive to make a great stay for us and it didn't go unnoticed. Checking in was a breeze, we had a designated parking spot and had we needed any service, I don't doubt it would've been quick and helpful. Fortunately, we never had to find out. Great stay and we'll be back! Our suggestions for Long Beach: Eat at Lost Roo -- it's a McMenamin's-like atmosphere that is great for families or couples. Drinks at Pickled Fish -- Overlooking the ocean and the south end of the boardwalk, they have a Pisco Sour that's pretty good! Walk the boardwalk -- A quick walk (1/2 a mile), but gives a nice, relaxing stroll through the tall grass and lets you take in the sights and sounds of the surf without getting sand in your shoes! read more

Charming is the operative word. Cottages equate with charm, and along a windy beach, all housing should be charming. Unfortunately, Western beaches have been taken over by monster mansions. Charm is waning. From the exterior, these cottages are indeed charming. They've been well-refurbished, and many of the touches are quaint. The staff was helpful and polite, she went out of the way to show us our options for lodging, and explained everything well. The price for our studio cottage was quite reasonable. The interior clean and tidy. The bed was comfortable. The room itself was not comfortable. The bathroom was extraordinarily small. The only option for seating in the living area was two rattan chairs. The television was small (but who wants to watch TV when at the beach?) and pointed toward nowhere a person can sit. Only one of the three small windows opens. All the lighting is the harsh compact fluorescent. Most disappointing was a notice that says "Please clean the kitchen as you found it. Dish soap/scrubber provided for pots. ($50 fine for messy/dirty kitchens." I've never seen such a thing in a hotel/motel setting. Why not post similarly about messing up the bathroom? It amounts to the same thing. Lodgers by their very nature mess (i.e. use) things. That's what we're paying for, to use the lodging. read more

Great little place. Very quiet, clean and well tended. We stayed in the Sand Dollar Cottage. Cozy and comfortable, with a gas fireplace. They have a good selection of DVDs or VHS tapes for in room viewing. Within walking distance to the downtown area, and to the beautiful, sandy beaches of the Long Beach Peninsula. Almost right across the street from the quaint movie theater. We slept past the breakfast pastry cutoff time, but the owner left a basket of delicious scones for us while we were out. Would stay here again. Would be a good place to bring several families to vacation together in the different cottages. read more

Very helpful staff, immaculate and comfortable cottage and convenient location. We spent two nights in the Sand Dollar during early December. Not exactly peak season for the peninsula, but we decided to visit Long Beach as a detour from Portland back to home on Whidbey Island. First, the rooms (ours, at least) do look just like the pictures on the web site. The Sand Dollar is like a small, one bedroom apartment. With just two of us, it was very comfortable. You could use the sleeper sofa in the living room for two kids or close friends. Be aware that the bedroom is really small, so if you want to sleep with the door closed, you'll have to open the window for air. I should also mention that if you are really sensitive to these things, you'll hear the water heater fire up when someone in one of the other two attached "cottages" uses hot water. That brings up the description: cottages. In reality, there are several units within each structure, a bit like a row house. I think the maximum is four in a row. Ours was on an end, so we had windows on three sides. The neighboring unit was occupied, but noise was not a problem. The Sand Dollar's kitchen is compact but functional, with an apartment-size reefer and even a compact dishwasher. The bathroom is very nice, but shower only (no tub). During our December visit the gas fireplace was quite welcome, as were the Cadet heaters in the living room and kitchen. Boardwalk Cottages is located a block off the main drag and about four blocks (south, then west) from the beach. It's a block from the go kart track and across the street from the local cinema. Being in Long Beach, there are many dining options within a short drive and some within a long walk. Need wifi? They actually have several repeaters here, so I'm guessing that you'll get a strong signal in any room. I noticed that the base router seems to be one of the newest types. We had no trouble connecting. It's worth mentioning that there is open space on two sides of this little enclave, so you don't get the feeling you're pinned in between a bunch of motels or other structures. The parking lot is pretty compact, but I was able to slip my Grand Caravan into the space in front of our cottage. We might opt for a beach front room next time in Long Beach, but for a stay long enough to do more cooking, we would certainly consider returning to Boardwalk Cottages. read more

We stayed in Sand Dollar for two nights, and Sea Otter for the third night. The staff at Boardwalk Cottages is excellent! So friendly and helpful. I can't say enough about Dee, she helped my boyfriend make the reservation, and gave us tips throughout our stay. I would not hesitate to return. The only thing I'd do differently is bring my own cooking utensils. Truly, one of the most pleasant places I've stayed at. Early January means lots of wildlife and few people. Perfect! read more

Wonderful town. We stayed in the sea horse. The room was very cold. We slept in the living room. Near the gas fire place. We ran the fire despite the sign that reads" use the fireplace for ambience not all night ambiance" when I booked my stay I was told that they would bill me for one of my two nights stay as a non refundable deposit. They charged my credit card the full price of the stay $186.00. When I arrived to check in I was told that I owed another $21.00 for taxes. Seems like this could be a great place to stay if they changed management. read more

I really wanted to stay here with a friend of mine. I called to give them a heads up about my friend having a disability/service dog ... a disability you can clearly see when looking at her and one that would obviously qualify for the need of a service dog. When I called to inform staff that I was interested 2 women told me no, "I'm sorry but we do not allow pets of any kind.. even service dogs". I politely told them they cannot NOT accept a service dog... at which point one of the ladies told me "well, almost everyone else in Long Beach allows pets .. so we would really enjoy it if you went there instead." read more

I have many things to say about the Boardwalk Cottages and most of them are good. First off the location was perfect. It was a short walk to the beach, a bicycle rental place, a horse riding rental place, several tasty restaurants, a nice bakery and the famed boardwalk which is definitely worth a walk. The cottage was clean and each day our towels and free ground coffee were replenished, our bed was made and even the cushions of the couch were refluffed. As the evening wore on, the cottage felt chilly and the electric fireplace chased away the chill and we read, played UNO with our son and felt as snug as bugs in our cozy little cottage. On our second night we tried out the onsite hot tub. What a delight it was to sit in the warm water and hear the waves crashing on the nearby beach! For someone who grew up in the desert it was an experience I will never forget. Each cottage has a place in front to park, so we were able to park right in front of our cottage and unload the groceries we bought for our three day stay without much bother. The little kitchenette was adequately stocked with pots, pans and dishes, but if you are like me and have a favorite pan or utensils, you should bring them with you (sadly I left my best spatula behind!). I have a fragrance sensitivity and I was delighted that the cottage wasn't cleaned with overly perfumed cleaners nor were there any plug in air fresheners or incense, just the clean ocean air. Now for the things we didn't like; 1. The bed was hilarious. I laughed and laughed as no matter how much we held onto the sides of the mattress we still ended up stuck in the people sized hole in the middle. I think this mattress may need to retire and give one made after the invention of the personal computer a go. 2. The homemade baked goods. Why say homemade if you are just picking them up at the local supermarket? The muffins we were given were dry and tasteless with an abundance of sugar, so do yourself a favor and pack a muffin tin and a couple of boxes of muffin mix. Needed a get-away and relief from heat and this did it all. Perfect location, walking-distance close to about everything. You can also enjoy amenities of sister hotel 2 blks away - swimming pool and barrel hot tub. Free bicycle use on availability and nice little outside grassed seating area to walk dogs, visit etc. Tastefully decorated units, we had Deluxe Studio with jetted tub. Best king bed, mini kitchen (micro/hot pot/fridge) all that was really needed. Free fresh baked goodies delivered by nearby bakery to your doorstep. The staff was so welcoming and helpful with local information. About a 3 blk walk takes you to boardwalk (2-3 mile walk) and the other asphalt trail (6 miles). You decide how far but we walked farther than intended as scenery & fresh ocean air made time fly. Can't wait to go back. Lots of restaurant choices and activities. Bringing more family next time. Just spent 5 days at the Boardwalk Cottages in Long Beach, Washington. It was awesome. They are perfectly located near the beach, shopping, movie theater and anything thing else on your "to do" list while you're there. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We stayed in the "starfish" cottage. Perfect for two people. Queen size bed, flat screen TV, DVD/VCR, movies you can "borrow" during your stay. Had a nice little kitchenette if you feel the need to save a little money by eating in. The owner even bakes fresh muffins or scones in the morning, The cranberry scones were delicious. Great place to stay, everyone is super nice here. I will say that you can hear the people in the room right next to yours, but it really wasn't a huge issue. Convent and close to down town, we walked everywhere that we wanted to go. and it is not bad on the budget. read more
