At the height of a recent heat wave, I needed my through-the-wall air conditioner replaced and installed. I called many places, but they either didn't have what I needed or were going to charge very high prices (--as soon as they figured out I was old and female). Atomic Appliances quoted me a fair price and delivered as quickly as promised. The installation was fast but careful, plus the fellow cleaned up all the packing and took it away for me. I have been buying appliances from Atomic since 1986. When my stove died, I had a real problem as I had many guests coming for the holidays which were a few days away and it would take a few weeks for my nonstandard replacement stove to arrive. I really wanted to see it, too. Price is important, of course, but not as important as quality or service. You'd think finding all three in one package would be easy, but no. No, it is not -- I assure you. After getting the run around from Big Box Store That Shall Not Be Named (going there was my husband's idea, not mine) I suggested Atomic. Sure, they might be a bit pricier but you know what you're paying for? Expertise. Service. Quality. An actual person who has worked in this industry for years and knows EXACTLY what they're talking about, not some dweeby dude with bad posture and a worse attitude who could give to farts about finding your perfect dishwasher. Anyway, Atomic was a breeze to work with. Sure, the shop is a tad, eh-hem, rickety and dog-eared, but they know their product, they know their prices and they know their stock. Within a few days (because we had to special order it) we had our beautiful new dishwasher delivered and installed exactly on time and within an hour. I'm thrilled. Just a note: not all stock is on the showroom floor, as they have an off-site warehouse where they hold larger and less-common items. It'll admit I didn't compare prices when buying my new microwave. The service & patience to answer all my questions made me purchase from Atomic. The owner even drew me a diagram for the install, so I could see if the current setup I was replacing could be reused. He helped me compare models & recommended the lowest end for what I wanted to replace because it sounds need best for me. No aggressive up-selling. That's great in my book. I had called Atomic, based on the reviews I read here, just to ask if they did in-house repairs, and while they don't he stayed on the phone with me for several minutes trying to troubleshoot the issue. Would you EVER get that from most places? He gave me a couple of things to try and then shared the number of a repair place that handles the brand/type of appliance I had. I went to Atomic Appliances to purchase replacement rubber bumpers for my KitchenAid stove top. Would need 12 of them but would order 16 to have backups. the guy behind the counter was very helpful, and customer oriented. They did not have them in stock. He called someone and told me they would take 4 weeks to get and cost $4 each. So for the 16, this would cost me over $70 plus shipping. I went home and went online, and purchased 16 factor bumpers/feets for about $25, including 2 day shipping. Do not think I will ever go into their store again. read more

We've discovered that it's a myth that you save money buying appliances at the big chain stores. Not only do you get instant, expert, personalized service at this store, but he delivers free, whereas most of the chains charge (sometimes as much as $200, depending on the item) for delivery. Also, he doesn't give you a delivery "window", he tells you EXACTLY when he's coming. And he always shows when he says he will. We've bought numerous appliances from him over several years, and it's been the same great, no-hassles experience every single time. This guy is the best. He knows and cares about his customers, he turns himself into a pretzel to accommodate you, and he's the nicest man and hardest worker I've ever met. When we were trying to buy a new faucet (which he doesn't sell), he spent half an hour on the phone with me helping me with what questions to ask (!!!). Was moving up the street and found out last minute there was no central air. I called every hardware store, appliance store, etc from New York to Massachusetts and everyone was out of stock for ac units. Thankfully, I stumbled upon this gem, and I called to ask if I could reserve one over the phone and get it the next day-they said yes and the owner didn't even make me pay! When I went to pick it up, he told me they had other customers come in asking to buy it, but he remained loyal and held on to it for us!! The unit works amazing and the price was great. We have gotten good advice from Atomic before, but hadn't purchased anything. Then the dishwasher broke, so we went in for advice, which we received with no pressure to buy. We looked at the big box stores, and despite being the weekend of post-Thanksgiving sales, we realized that the same make and model we could get at Atomic would cost more than twice as much (when figuring out taxes,installation, ete) from the big stores, and would take about two weeks to be installed. So, we called Atomic on a Saturday, got a much better price than anywhere else we looked (and we looked), and it was installed before noon on Tuesday. We really love our new dishwasher: it's quieter and more efficient than its predecessor, stainless steel inside and out, and still under budget. If you need to have something replaced right away or just want some honest advice from professionals who really know appliances, your first and maybe only stop should be Atomic. read more

SHOCKINGLY UPSETTING EXPERIENCE. I ordered a washer/dryer, and the owner came to my apartment to deliver it just now. I told him that I have a close loved one with serious health concerns and asked him, in light of the coronavirus crisis, to wash his hands when he entered my apartment. He initially said he would but did not and started touching items in my apartment, which was concerning. After I asked again, he said that he would wash his hands but only once, and added that he intended to leave my apartment and come back multiple times. He raised his voice. In light of my fears about my family member's health, I told him if he would not clean his hands each time before coming into my apartment, then I could not accept the delivery. Coincidentally at the same time, the vulnerable person close to me came into my apartment wearing a surgical mask and surgical gloves. He still refused to wash his hands. He stomped off, with my order in tow. I am stunned. He would rather walk away from a nearly $2,000 order than wash his hands before coming into a multiple-time repeat customer's home, on the same day the president declared a national emergency and the state closed all schools. I hope if he is ever concerned about his own health or the health of his loved ones, that others will treat him differently than he treated me today. read more

Joel refused to help connecting the gas hose to the new oven, which would just take him a minute. I mean I can do it myself, but wouldn't it be his responsibility to make sure the oven function correctly before leaving? I am writing this review about Atomic appliance because of an experience that my mom had with them. My mom had ordered a range top and they said it could take a week to come in. She called them some days later to ask when she may receive it and then called me and told me that Joel was extremely rude and insulting to her and that he had a bad day and did not have time to keep telling her when her delivery would be in. I immediately called Joel on the phone to find out what happened. He told me that he had told my mom that her delivery would be in on Monday and the installer would call her on Tuesday. He told me that my mom had asked again and he stated that he had a bad day and a lot of deliveries and did not have the time to keep answering her questions. I told him that he should not speak to anyone like that being in business but also a returning customer who is also 88 years old and maybe had a hard time hearing you or understanding what he had told her. He then said to me we are just going around in circles and now you are starting to sound like your mother!!!!!!! I could not believe what had just come out of his mouth. It was a compliment to me being told I am like my mother but from his mouth it was an insult. I could not believe it and he told me he had a bad day with a lot of deliveries and he did not give a SHIT! Obviously we cancelled the order and went elsewhere for a better price and service. NOBODY should be spoken to like that and could not believe it until I heard it myself. I will also be contacting the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU as no business owner should get away with talking to people like this. I have been buying appliances there since the early 1980's, despite living in the boston area because I know I can always count on Joel to offer good selection , prices that are essentially the same as box stores, stands behind his products, and is genuinely honest old world style businessman whose word is as good as money in the bank. Joel has helped me troubleshoot problems over the phone, has access to 99% of any products we ever needed, and has the knowledge to recommend the best products for the money rather than those he makes the highest margin on. The storefront is deceiving because through his buying organization he can almost anything so don't judge the choices by the storefront because big box stores have huge overhead costs to cover so Joel can match their prices to earn folks business.
