He explained options clearly and helped us think through tradeoffs. I appreciated his suggestions throughout the project, including the decision to replace the windows. That change was not something we had planned, but it made a real difference in the finished space. The crew was well staffed and productive. When they were on site, progress was steady and visible. The team also handled uncertainty well. At the start, it was not clear how the kitchen exhaust hood would be vented. They worked through the constraints and found a solution that significantly improved airflow and met code. If we raised a concern or felt something missed the mark, it was addressed quickly. Change orders felt fair and were discussed before work moved forward. The project passed San Francisco city inspection on the first visit, which gave us confidence in the quality of the work. I had a great experience working with Atlas. I first reached out to them for an estimate on repairs after I had water damage. Ruben helped price out what it would be for just repairs and what it would cost if I wanted to do additional renovations, which I ended up doing. Everyone I worked with was really great, from those doing the work in my house (especially Ronald) to the office staff handling billing. All in all, they repaired drywall/texture, repainted the interior of the house, fixed recessed lighting that had been damaged, remodeled my bathroom completely (floor tile, wall tile, new bathtub, vanity, lighting, etc.), and sanded and repainted my kitchen cabinets. Living at home during construction is a pain no matter what, but they made it as easy as it could be. I would recommend them and work with them in the future. read more

I found Bill on Thumbtack. Bill helped us with our renovation which included paint, change baseboards, change wood floor, renovate fireplace and build new railings. The overall experience was pleasant. Bill is responsive and professional. He was the most responsive out of all the other contractors we met with. After we signed the contract, Bill started work 2 days after. This project took about 5 weeks including Thanksgiving. We sourced our own wood but used Bill's contact for hearth stone. We are overall happy with the experience and quality of work. Bill built our staircase railing from a picture I found on Pinterest. He also matched the banister material to our flooring. Value wise Bill's pricing was in the middle among the 3 contractors we met with. We did not go with the cheapest contractor because of Bill's responsiveness. We did hire a separate pro to install our lights because the electrician cost $240 for 2 light installations which was much cheaper than Bill. Small things that could've gone better was the railing and banister turned out to be bulkier than we had expected and the wall around fireplace wasn't quite finished. Although it took longer than expected -- which is normal for projects of this size -- we're very happy with the final result. Atlas construction did a complete remodel of my house. It was a large project requiring planning and building permits from the city, electrical upgrade, gas meter relocation. The project had pretty much all elements of a major residential construction. Bill, who owns the firm, helpmed me immensely before the project began to meet with me several times to discuss various options and implications. I was getting bids from a couple other contractors as well at the time and Bill's willingness to make himself available to answer my questions was a big factor in we moving forward with him. The best thing about working with Atlas is his team. He had about 10 or so construction workers at the time and I got very comfortable with them all thru my year long project. They were very honest, reliable, and never once did I i have to worry about security of materials that were getting delivered to the site. They have excellent work ethic and you can trust each any everyone of them. When things fell behind schedule once in a while, they recovered well with long hours and weekend work as well. The next very important thing is the quality of work. I feel they did excellent quality work. They care for the long term quality and take pride in doing the best work. Bill himself took keen interest in helping us select the best quality material and some architectural decisions. Some of his suggestions worked out great. We are glad we followEd his lead on kitchen counter and island, some window styles etc. he has a good eye for aesthetics. Bill was very easily accessible for the whole project duration. He helped with material selections and at times made trips to pick up material from local stores at my request. In short, very helpful with things outside his scope of work, within reason. We are very happy customers. Our project is a great success and we are enjoying every bit of it. But it wasn't all perfect. We did have a few challenges along the way. PG&E took longer than expected and electrical upgrade permits got a bit complicated. Bill was open to feedback on how he can improve on some of his multi tasking abilities and project management aspects. He took it seriously and along the way, he hired project manager to schedule his workers and tasks. Near the later part of the project, Selda joined the company as primary customer interface. I hired the services of Atlas General Construction on countless projects since 2017. Two of those were major projects involving an entire remodeling of our own home, the second one being an a complete rewiring of the lighting system of our 87-unit HOA community. Overall, I only have good things to say about Atlas. The best thing about Bill (Atlas' Owner) is his resourcefulness. I have yet to find one problem he could not solve. He is full of ideas and his ability to envision how a remodeling idea would look is unparalleled. The typical contractor is a person who simply execute what the customer orders. The problem is that many customers themselves may not know exactly what they want or how one option would turn out compared to another. However, when it comes to Bill/Atlas, he has been a go-to-person, consultant, sounding board, architect, contractors all at the same time. Atlas also often helped me solve problems, that other contractors could not solve, so Bill became my go to person for whatever the tough problem of the day is. He has become over time, my go-to-turn-around expert. What I also love about Bill/Atlas is his availability. I could reach out to him at any time, even odd hours and he would always get back, return call, listen to my concerns, and provide solution/options and ideas. In construction work, things can sometime be unpredictable, including what the customer requests. In several cases, my plans and requirements changed, and Atlas has always been very accommodating and helping adapt to my plans. Quite a disappointment! Before I outline the reasons behind my 3 star rating, I want to acknowledge what they did right: the construction has been done up to code and I don't anticipate any issues with the durability of the work, water leakage, or plumbing issues. The toilets have been replaced and are functioning, they built a great walk-in shower with a wall niche, the drywalls have been repaired, sanded and painted after demolition and look good, the fixtures have been installed per my instructions. Aldo, their most senior contractor has been a great resource in finding solutions to some of the limitations we encountered during construction. Now, back to the 3 star rating reasons: - Job attendance & scheduling: the crew arriving on site after 10:30am was the norm and missed work days with no prior communication wasn't out of the ordinary. After 4 weeks, it was clear that the "6 weeks project as advertised" was going to turn into a 3 months ordeal. I demanded a schedule which the project manager didn't provide and I had to withhold payments to get the owner on site with a timeline. Didn't change much of the above behavior, but at least I had a schedule to hold them accountable! - Attention to details: during the initial visit, I mentioned to Bill that the hardwood floor leading to the bathrooms was slightly elevated. Since I wanted the floors to be flushed, we agreed to pour more cement to bring the bathroom floors up to the same level as the hardwood. This was a complete miss upstairs and I now have to live with a slight elevation difference between the floors (and some kind of metal transition glued to hide the gap which might not last very long). Thankfully they didn't make the same mistake downstairs, once I pointed out the problem with my master bathroom floor! A few more examples of things that should have been done "right" - one of the tile was laid vertically instead of horizontally (small fix to make but took them 2 attempts to correct the issue, as they used the wrong grout). The grey grout in the master bath was done unevenly, a complete redo that I had to argument for. The guestroom faucet isn't straight (never corrected). The drain in the master shower isn't straight either (not correctable) - I had to withhold payments to have them correct a list of smaller issues in a (somewhat) timely manner. The last one was fixed on 12/18; for reference the (2 bath remodel) project started on 9/11. - The vanity disaster: if you still want to hire Bill and his crew after reading this review, do not under any circumstances trust him to provide a custom cabinet / vanity. The configuration of my bathroom didn't allow me to buy a standard vanity and I wanted a very specific one with nested drawers and no handles. Every cabinet manufacturers I had talked to gave me delays between 6 to 12 weeks to make the vanity and I was contemplating delaying the project to get what I wanted. Bill assured me he could deliver the same quality cabinet in 3 weeks, "on time to finish the first bathroom". Sold! I showed him pictures of the vanity I wanted, provided examples of the configuration and finishes I was expecting (even drawings to make it crystal clear). What I got was complete garbage - looked used, something made in someone's garage with low quality material (subpar to Ikea) - and Bill was charging an outrageous $2800 for it! Bottom line: I will not hire Bill and his crew for any of the upcoming projects I have in 2021 (either at my house or at properties I manage). I will not recommend this contractor to any of my friends or to any of my real estate clients. read more

He is always willing to evaluate options and is very calm and patient. He is technically sound and is very detail oriented. There were a couple of things he redid for us until we were 100% satisfied. Also something worth mentioning is Bilal has a good eye for design. He will give you suggestions that you may not agree with him upfront but will end up thanking him in the end.
