I've been coming to Lizette since I moved to Long Beach a year ago. Though I live on a non-profit salary and could likely find a place more within my means, I wouldn't consider going elsewhere. Getting my hair cut has always been a mental/emotional experience just as much as a physical experience and Lizette completely understands this. We spend time crafting a new cut/style together before she gets started. Lizette's vision and artistry, as well as her genuine passion for her work have put me in awe (and at ease) every time I go in. The reason for the high staff turn over is the way they treat employees, like dirt. At any other salon, a stylist either pays booth rent and works as an independent contractor or is paid by commission, usually a 45/55% split. This lovely little Sweat Shop pays by the hour. In addition, they work your butt off and threaten to reduce your hours if you dare say or do anything that they disapprove of, say take a 5 minute break. In addition, they post weekly totals for service and retail in the back room so you can see how great you are or how much you suck. The Salon Director is one of the most oppressive, disprespecful people I have ever met. Anyone with half a brain (and talent) figures their little racket out quick and hits the road. I did give them one star because it's a great place to get paid while your building your clientele, just don't plan on staying. read more

* I have been going to Janet at Atlantic Studio for several years now ( ok 13 years) Janet is an amazing stylist!! She knows just what style of cut will look good on you if you are unsure and want to leave it up to her. However, if you ask for something specific, she will always cut it the way you like your hair. I see her for color and a cut. My hair is simple and she has never tried to experiment with me. But gives me a wonderful cut that I can also style in the mornings. Janet is amazing!!! I would suggest anyone looking for a great stylist to go to Janet or her daughter Michelle. Love them!!! by the way I drive over an hour to see them each way.. so worth it. I went here to get my hair dyed and cut. I made my appointment with Levi and he was super nice. I was very happy with my hair and I'm glad I went here over other salons. The only reason why I gave them 4 instead of 5 stars, is because parking is not too great here. i will return for more hair appointments. read more

3 or so weeks ago, I got a wild hair - literally. Called in blind to make an appointment to lighten my hair from 4 years of box Strawberry Blonde to pure crystal white. I have a bit of haircolor experience so I knew that what I was asking for was a near impossible feat - certainly to accomplish in one sitting. Lizette met me at the door and it was game on. She assessed the integrity of my hair and communicated the realities of achieving the result I was after - we set some realistic goals (lvl 9 buttery-ish) for our power lightening session and dove in. 4 hours later - toned and trimmed - I was damned near crystal white. Lizette's skills are amazing! She mentioned having some haircolor wizardry certificate - Master artist of something color something - but the proof is really in the pudding. Total side thing - but ultimately as important - she is an absolutely lovely human being. Hilarious and gentle natured and just very easy to be around - which is cool when you're spending several hours with someone, obviously. The following day ending up being an impromptu round 2. Went in to have a few more inches chopped off - which she did at no cost to me - toned me up again as well - no charge. I mean! Honestly can't say enough about the quality of my experience or of Lizette's expertise/chairside manner. She's a miracle worker and - if I'd had a beer in my hand - I could solidly have called it a fun night with a cool new friend. I actually call it that anyway, beers are just fun. Ask for Lizette. I bought a package that included a facial, manuicure, and hair care. The hair cut was average. The manicurist was a nice lady, but she made me bleed and didn't cut my cuticles correctly. Then when I went for my facial, I was a little late (10 min) and they said they wouldn't take me and I would have to forfeit the facial visit. NO WHERE in the pamphlet did it say late comers will forfeit the visit. Plus the receptionist had major attitude... I don't even think they deserve a single star. read more

The essential back story: when I first moved to long beach, my roommate at the time was an aspiring hairdresser and royally jacked my hair after I let her try to highlight it. Atlantic studio was high up in the yellow pages and I got an appointment same day which was essential after what the roomie did to my precious locks. The horrific experience: I call in tell the receptionist I just wanna come in for a color and asked the price she said $70 I think ok not bad so I schedule the appointment and show up a couple hours later I meet the stylist whose name escapes me now but she asks what color I want to use so I opt for black thinking it'll be the easiest to cover the mistake we put the color on and everything goes fine, she then sells me on a cut (it had been a few months so I agree) cut turns out satisfactory not fantastic but not terrible....when I go to pay, the price had suddenly jumped from $70 to $220 when I ask what the charges are they explain to me since my hair had been colored by someone else it was a corrective color and charge $170 for that plus a $50 haircut/style...Voila $220...This to me was completely deceptive and totally uncalled for, the stylist did no more work than she would have had to do for a regular color I feel they took advantage of my desperation after the highlights went bad and I will NEVER go back, on top of that the color faded after 3 weeks and the splotchy highlights returned...at which point I was so broke I had no choice but to color my own hair, after all this they have the nerve to flood my email with stupid promotions and requests for me to return! This salon is a total ripoff I warn everyone not to go here too bad there is not negative star option... Atlantic Studio deserves negative stars. Definitely they don't know how to keep clients. read more

I just got my hair done by Lizette, and I'm in love! I first had a consultation with her, which was great because she was able to understand what I wanted and envisioned, even though I came in kind of clueless as to what would be best for my hair. Not only was she incredibly personable and friendly, but she explained every aspect of what she was doing to my hair and why--and I really appreciated that. She was also very accommodating and worked around her schedule for me as I had booked a color and cut with the receptionist, but was only scheduled for a cut for some reason. I was very impressed by that because that happened to me once elsewhere too and the hair stylist sort of got mad at me and acted like I was a bother. Not to mention, this girl hurt her knee really badly recently but was still just as passionate and giving 110%. I honestly don't think I will ever see anyone but her now. I was looking for someone who would be able to handle my super curly hair and I came across some great reviews for Lizette at Atlantic Studio 425 and decided to book an appointment with her. I arrived to the salon and was greeted by a very friendly receptionist and Lizette promptly came to greet me. Lizette and I chatted about my hair and I let her know how I was not liking the brassiness in my hair and also wanted a new cut. We both looked through pictures and Lizette pointed out some pictures based on what I told her I wanted. Well I have to say that Lizette worked her magic and I loved the cut and the color on my hair. She cut my hair in a way that gives it more volume and when she styled it she made the curls more defined. The color was spot on and she left a great brown color with warm tones, which was exactly what I wanted. Lizette was so sweet and made me feel super comfortable even though my hair is by no means easy to work with. It's been a couple weeks since I got my hair done and I love the results and will definitely be going back!! read more

I've been getting my hair done here since 1999. I've had almost every hairstylist there. Liz is by far the best, but since I can't always make an appointment with her, ive been trying out others as well. Vinnie is my second pick, though I've only gotten my hair done with her one time but it turned out beautifully. Both my husband and my brother-in-law get their hair done by Liz. My sister loves Ronnie and has been seeing him since she started at Atlantic studios (3 years?). I've also got a facial and make-up done here. I even ended up hiring a girl from here to do my make up for my wedding she was that good! Everyone is very friendly. It is getting pricier as they keep increasing their prices. They do offer a discount if you work with an associate stylist....but be forwarned, they are associates for a reason. I'm not too picky with my hair and they usually just grab my information card so they know what to mix when I get my color added so that seems to not be too much of a problem. Used to be my one-stop beauty shop when I worked in LBC. They have every hair styling services and variety of beauty products, manicure, facials, waxing, makeup, and cute airy lofty lounge area. I love the this place's setting for the location. It is really ideal if you don't wanna blow your rent on Beverly Hills facial shop. But, I really can't keep up with the changing staff. They left and someone new came. I was ok but after the fourth one I decided to find somewhere else. One cool thing though...hmm, I must need to tell a bit of the tale of how I found this salon. There was a lady selling a $50 promotion with 4 visits during lunch outside of Starbucks so I said why not. Wow, 1st visit was a haircut, next is wax with a facial upgrade, almost 15 bucks for a haircut, and with upgrades you get more stuff. Really really good deal. I hope they still do for those who are on a budget and ask for it. But, I do have a problem with the changing staff. Nobody is perfect, it all depends on your priorities. I love this studio! The atomosphere is fun and relaxing, the stylist are friendly and professional ...but most of all I love my stylist, Lizette!! When I moved to this area 3 years ago one of my biggest concerns was connecting with the right stylist and I couldn't have gotten luckier when I found Lizette. I highly recommend this place for any wedding party or special event night. I'm from out of town and needed a salon to accommodate me and my 4 bridesmaids for early morning updos, as my wedding was on a Sunday morning. I was able to email the salon ideas of styles we wanted, as we didn't have time to do a trial run. Atlantic Studio opened their doors just for my wedding party and was able to get 5 hair stylists to come in early to work on our hair. Ronni (my hairstylist) was super nice and did an amazing job on my hair. All the girls were treated with mimosas and fruit. I received a complimentary wedding gift from the salon to take home. The girls also hooked us up with eyelash extensions. I have some amazing wedding photos, because of their amazing work. Prices were also reasonable. $85 for bridal style and $75 for the bridesmaids. I was told this company has done weddings for at least 15years. Ronni in particular is one of the best. I also highly recommend the other hair stylists Vanessa, Trisha. Mitchell and Shara. Jodi was the coordinator for us and was very friendly. I was so pleased with the experience, that I feel like it is my duty to get the word out. 5 stars. read more

I love Denny! I've been getting my hair cut with him since May and he's fantastic. I had a pixie cut before I went to him and I asked for something edgier and boy did he deliver. The sides were cut all the way down, looking as if they were shaved and the top was left in a way where I can either spike it up or wear it over my forehead like a pixie. I've been nervous about the "ugly" period of growing out such a short cut but he's so good at giving the hair a nice shape regardless of what stage it's in. It hasn't looked bad yet! This is the second time I have had Lizette at Atlantic studio and she is absolutely wonderful. I am very particular about my hair and I sometimes don't know exactly what I want when describing with words, but I always have a vision. The first time I had her she listened to exactly what I wanted and even gave me an iPad to pick pictures of what I was trying to describe. She listened and really seemed to care as much as I did about what I wanted. When she did my hair it was everything and more of what I was envisioning for my hair. I love it! I am so happy I FINALLY found a stylist that listened carefully and made my hair exactly how I envisioned it! Now I just go back and get retouch and toners and it's healthier and prettier than ever! Not only is she amazing at what she does, but she is authentic and so kind. It is so easy to talk to her without feeling judged. I love this place! had been going to another salon for a number of years and while I was never dissatisfied, I wanted a fresh new look and that's what I got at Atlantic. I go either to Carole, the salon manager, who is a magician with color or Shar, who is still in training but is amazingly competent for being so young. I love my streaky (al la Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's updated for today and age-modified). No matter what I ask for--whether a tweak or an major change--Carole and Shar get me. I love my look. (And when it comes to my hair, I can be really cryptic) Plus the pampering is so relaxing. I also can recommend the boutique. Janet, the owner, finds fun jewelry, accessories and tops, etc., and it's perfect for gift shopping at good prices. Get on the email list and receive discounts. My friend recommend this place. She kept going on how her stylist Vinny was so great. Well, I wanted to a drastic cool change, so I gave the high fashion salon and good referral a try. My hair at the time was long (mid back), thick , and wavy but I wanted cut to a long shoulder length aline bob. The first time was a fantastic cut-super cute and just what i wanted. I got raving compliments. After a couple months I went back for a clean up/trim for my a line bob. Awesome. Then I went back to my same girl who originally did such a fantastic job, Vinny, and she F'ed up so bad-I was beyond myself. It was a couple days before my graduation party and a few days my b.f. would have seen me in 6 months and she decided completely demolish my bob!!! I went in for my normal trim as before and she cut it literally 4 inches shorter!!! with NO A LINE!! that my hair cut looked literally like a motorcycle helmet look all around!! It was a nightmare. The cut was to0 short to do anything else with it, plus it was uneven......I let her know how unhappy I was with the cut but she brushed it as if nothing happened.....I went home and was mortified!.... I went to the mall bought some expensive extensions-went back to the salon and had her put them in my hair and dye the the color to match my hair. Even then-it did not look right since my hair is thick and now short with extensions on my head....It was an AWFUL experience.....so be aware on the consistency of the cut you get and ......well I would not bother give this place a try from the get go!!!
