I hate to write bad reviews, but this place is a tourist trap, plain and simple. Sounds like a nice concept, self-serve craft beer at the beach, but to say its run poorly would be an understatement. There was only one local beer on their taps, Back Bay's Orange Crush IPA, which I know and enjoy. When I poured it, however, it was a very strange color. When I gave it a taste, it was obviously spoiled. The manager tried to say that is what all IPAs are like, but the (friendly) staff thankfully interceded, and he admitted it was bad and I got another pour. Unfortunately, the next one was skunky, if not spoiled. My wife did get a cider that was fine, but that was enough for me and we left. I should have known better when I saw there were still Pumpkin and Oktoberfest beers on tap in mid February, along with a few empty taps that hadn't been replaced. Beware...

Wow! This place was a pleasant surprise I was down at the oceanfront with time to kill on a Saturday morning. I wandered into Atlantic Pints, as it was the only thing open near the 24th street park where I was meeting friends. The orange crush was super fresh, and the fried shrimp platter was probably the best I've had at the beach. I'm not a beer drinker but they have a ton of drafts for self pour. Really cool spot that saved me today and brought the heat with the food and drinks! Outdoor seating, awesome music, good service. I'll definitely be back

This place was across the street from our hotel and has a seaside sports bar vibe. We both got the Crab Cake BALT (minus the bacon) with a side of fries. It was pretty good but I would definitely suggest adding some type of cheese to it. As a starter we got the calamari which tasted great but wasn't crispy enough. Beers are self poor which is cool but I don't know how I feel about it given that it's COVID. Also it's good if you're decent at pouring your own beer from a tap with no foam. They give you a card to use, you put it in every time you pour and you take it out when you're done filling your glass. The only thing is that the machine doesn't account for foam so it'll charge you for that. If you're getting a growler you won't be able to see the foam inside so again this system is cool if you know how to use a beer tap. Beer cards are used between customers so make sure you sanitize it, that you sanitize your hands and wear a mask when you're walking to the tap. Service was slow but there was only one waitress when we went. She was really sweet and attentive!

Board outside of the restaurant that said five dollar happy hour beers, but they charge us seven dollars apiece for them

The manager Tony is a piece of trash and refused to come out of the kitchen to discuss valid overcharges. Overcharged by 2 beers and the manager wouldn't give back the money. Our party got 9 beers during happy hour ($5) and they charged us for 11 ($7 each). So we brought it up to our waitress at the end, and the waitress said that she told the manager and that the manager would come out and talk to us. Tony, the manager, gave the waitress a five dollar bill to give back to us. So that was a $32 overcharged, and Tony gave her a five dollar bill to get back to us. After we brought it up on the receipt, she said that she was going to get the manager and that he would come out and talk to us. After 15 minutes, she came back and asked if Tony had come back out. He did not, so she said that she was going to go back and get him. another 10 minutes later, she brought out a second five dollar bill. I feel like Tony is a terrible manager, will not talk to customers when a valid concern is a risen, and forces the waitress to handle all scenarios. After 25 minutes after bringing up the concern, we finally left because Tony would not come out of the kitchen to talk to us. Tony should not be a manager restaurant or customer service business at all. Our waitress was very nice, but the food was very dry and the manager is worthless.

The open variety of beers that you can pour yourself is amazing! Food is delicious and service was waa superior. You can even grab a growler, fill it with your favorite beer yo go, come back and refill it later. A must try while in Virginia Beach!

the food was actually so bad. in the menu, it said that the burger was 1/2 pound. this is HORRIBLE. not even as good as a mc donald quarter pounder. bread dry and cold. 2 mini tomatoes and a piece of lettuce you would give to a rabbit that lives in your back yard. fried COLD. music LOUD. i could only smell WEED the whole time i was eating. messed up my appetite fr. the waitress was nice but like i came to a restaurant for FOOD not to make FRIENDS. i hate it here. never go to here go eat at ben and jerry's it will fill you up more. OVER PRICED. 15$ FOR THIS POOPY. excuse the nibbles i took. i had to try. and the lights went out mid meal. it was cold and windy outside and they had the door wide open.

Let me preface this review with, I am a 12 year restaurant manager vet & I do NOT Yelp lightly. If anything, I try to keep every Yelp positive. That being said, Wow. If I could give less than one star I would. Customer service is NOT a priority here. Idk what self respecting business doesn't answer their phone but I called TWENTY times, left a voicemail, called some more, messaged them through Yelp & NEVER heard anything from them. Listen business owners, get your act together. You'll never run a successful Oceanside business front if you can't even bother to answer your phones. There are plenty of other BETTER oceanfront spots to get drinks everyone, don't waste your time here or give them your money because they are wildly unappreciative. I've attached my call log as proof of how many times I tried calling DURING BUSINESS HOURS.

[Late review. Visited September 2025]…read more We visited Virginia Beach and found Esoteric due to its good reviews online. We reserved for an early dinner and we somehow were able to order items from the happy hour menu. We ordered wings from the Happy Hour menu along with cocktails. From the regular menu, we had poutine, black garlic caesar salad, and duck tacos. The food was delicious! The duck tacos were really amazing that I wish I had more space in my stomach to eat more. The poutine was amazing along with the wings. The cocktails were not as great as we hoped. The ambiance was great - quite modern and perfect for a laid back dinner. The service was okay. I think the staff was a little distracted that day.

Chill vibes, hipster/cool ambiance, delicious if not a bit pricy food, hit or miss service. Came here most recently to celebrate a combination of the end of the shutdown & date night on a Friday night round 8pm or so. Maybe should've gotten a table instead of sat at the bar. Service other times have been great during Last Meeting of the Day (their HH), specials nights (went during Wing & Whiskey Wednesday), & an after shifty cocktail but spending $100 between two people left a bit more to be desired hospitality wise. Like I said, hit or miss... sometimes you feel like you're bothering someone for a check other times they're pretty friendly. Food was tasty. $35 catch of the day was rockfish; cooked perfectly, on a bed of wild rice pilaf (?) & sautéed squash & apple. Licked that plate clean. Extra dirty gin martini, though I'd recommend ordering from their fun seasonal cocktail menu. My partner got the $19 chicken sammie with truffle fries with the house root beer. Rootbeer was flat so was taken off the check but had nothing but good things to say about the sando. Either way.. great for a chill but kinda fancy, IYKYK kind of experience.

So when one of the Homies told me about this place I was all in because - burgers - what's not to love. Barrel 17 did not disappoint; when i got there i realized quickly i was the last to know because it was busy. We had about a 10 minute wait to be seated but that was cut short by option to sit at the bar. The bartender was working like she had six arms. It was non stop; attentive, taking orders, making drinks, checking back with others, she was truly impressive. The places was jumping; it was busy, casual and didn't slow down from the time we arrived until we left. Parking is challenging, there's a small lot beside the restaurant and a small lot behind it so if you can car pool you'll benefit yourselves. Now on to the star of the show - the food! The only knock I had was portion size. In a big guy with an even bigger appetite and when i left there i could've eaten my whole meal over again lol. But that's also because it was delicious. I got the mac n cheese starter, the Beast Burger, tater tots , and the biggest slice of chocolate cake I've ever had. Literally the biggest slice of cake ever- twice the size of my burger. Everything was delicious, from start to finish and if i were a person that had a normal appetite i would've left full like my friends did. Will definitely be back!

Someone from the kitchen rushed out with a soup bowl filled with chicken slices that looked like those Perdue rotisserie chicken slices you buy at the grocery store. Dumped them on the salad. She did apologize. Our third order was a Restaurant Week special fried oyster salad vouched for by our server, Bailey, who was pleasant and efficient. It came with corn, black beans, mixed greens, cotija cheese and a spicy dressing. It wasn't awful but I think the overall concept was weird. Fried oyster taco salad? The few oyster pieces were tasty. Maybe we were there on a bad day, which happens. The chicken salad fiasco was funny. Not a place I would drive across town to try twice. Maybe stick to burgers and plenty of beer.
