I had a great visit to Athletic Annex today. I recently started running more, and some people recommended me this place to find a pair of shoes that fit me best. I've never been a serious runner, and I always bought shoes online or just randomly in stores without thinking of the features. Here, Gary helped me by first scanning my feet. He explained the result and brought three pairs of shoes they he recommended based on the scan. I tried them all and ended up getting one of them. AA has always had great service, but I was particularly grateful and impressed with my most recent visit. During quarantine times, I've been mostly sticking to businesses that offer curbside pick ups. I called Athletic Annex--on Thanksgiving weekend no less--and they were happy to answer my questions, take my order over the phone, and run it out to my car--with a giftcard payment even!! My order was correct, bagged up beautifully, and delivered to my car by a friendly, masked associate. And I was even able to take advantage of the Black Friday giftcard-with-purchase promo. They'll happily bring out boxes on boxes to help you get the perfect fit and feel. -They always have the newest stuff and all the best brands. Don't ask me why, but I started running. I don't really like it, but I'm doing it anyway. Something something, grumpy doctor, something something gaining weight. So, I came to Athletic Annex off the recommendation of a colleague, and I had a fantastic experience. I didn't know what I needed or wanted, they helped me find it, and they didn't even judge me that I wasn't super enthusiastic about spending $130 on a hobby I don't love. The best part was the woman who helped me even had a corrective insert that she wears all day like me. Getting decent running shoes was a good decision. I can't say I *LOVE* running in my shoes, but I hate it way less. And from me? That's a heck of a compliment. P.S. this store has moved to Nora Square a few miles north!! read more

To be quite honest, I didn't know the Athletic Annex even existed until they opened their Broadripple store front. The owner graciously started putting a water station on the monon in broadripple accross the street from the new store. After drinking about 100 cups of free water during runs, I decided to pay the new store a visit and show my gratitude. After a long, hot spring run, I called the store and talked to the owner before making a visit. I live about a mile from the store and wanted to walk there with my dog, and I'm one of those crazy responsible owners that calls ahead to make sure its ok to bring him. Note: Dogs are ok at Athletic Annex, but they must (obviously) be very well behaved and not disturb business. We arrived about 20 minutes before closing time on a Saturday, but the owner paid no attention to the clock. He gave my dog some attention and brought him water while he laid down on the rug. Then, he showed us basically all the merchandise in the broadripple store and told us about the plethora of additional merchandise they have at the 86th street storefront. When we visited, we were 2 weeks out from our first marathon. The owner shared his running resume with us and provided some free advice. He is quite a seasoned runner and I'm sure makes a great run coach. In the end we walked away with a pair of running shorts, a few GU gels, and a confidence as to where we should shop for atheltic needs in the future. I've long been a fan of the other Annex location so when I heard my running group was meeting there I decided it was serendipity and time to check it out. Instead of joining the others for a run, I had two of my young kids in tow, so we embarked on getting me a new pair of shoes for marathon training. I chose this store because I knew they'd fit me with a great pair of shoes. I was thrilled they were able to hook me up efficiently when I had two little ones with me who needed dinner. It's worth noting how kind the staff was to my four year old and six year old. The store was kind of like my running group: highly professional, well organized and also really nice, especially to kids.
