I have always wanted to visit this brewery, and after realizing they moved to a bigger location, I decided to finally make a stop. As soon as you walk in, you are transported to an asylum with cool decor to go with the theming and a big room with pinball machines... my favorite! The guy working at the brewery was pretty chill and gave us the rundown on the most popular brews. I ended up trying the Virgin Blood seltzer and Intensive Care. Both were pretty good and paired well with the chips I kept adding to our tab. I was really interested in ordering a hot dog, but they were still cooking, and since we were bar hopping didn't get a chance to. I am curious to see how busy this location gets on an event night because parking is along the street and can be difficult to find a space if the adjacent lot is full. Did a quick one two at Asylum for an open mic night -- Mondays at 8ish. Let me tell you.. watching people attempt stand up comedy in ominous red lighting and spooky decor is gonna require two drinks minimum to get through the evening. Diana(?) was on evening shift and she was so helpful and offered a few samples since it was my first time. Half portions are $5.50 and full portion are $9! I didn't get to order any brewed cocktails but the looked fruity and fun. My bev of the night was a Mexican lager -- crisp and refreshing unlike a lot of the people and their questionable jokes. What a cool brewery!! You must check out! Came across this brewery and glad we did! It's right by the Anaheim Packing District. Walkable as it's across the street. There's also street parking right around it and we were able to snag one and walk over. A good sized brewery, clean, cool people all enjoying a beer. They even had a candle making person there that day! Walked in and the beer tender was super cool. They had a beer made with curry! He let me taste it first and it was surprisingly good! It is different so try a taster first! But tried a couple other beers and they were great! Sat down in the main area and they have lots of pinball machines, a claw machine and don't forget the Photo Booth! They have a card machine to use to play games. The Gray Phantom: A brown ale with 7% ABV hit the spot. Nice balance of roasted malt and a slight caramel sweetness, without feeling heavy. It had a smooth finish and is a safe try for first-timers. I doubt I'd get the same thing twice though. Service: No issues from my POV. I ordered a beer and I got it in under 30 seconds. The prices were decent, and the guy was nice. Ambiance: Located in a quiet spot in town, the brewery definitely stuck to its namesake by giving it a relatively concerning prison-like feel from the outside, while maintaining an eerie red hue on the inside. The place seats about 30 people. One side has a more active segment, where you have an arcade, and the other side is a more traditional bar. I believe there is also a spot that sells food outside the bar, but I could've just been seeing things. read more

Anaheim is one of the most competitive beer scene cities in Southern California and it's safe to say that Asylum Brewing, definitely hangs with the best of them. If you want beer, they're punchy hazy. IPA beers , as well as their light beers. Decent stout, except for their curry stout. But their beer cocktails are out of this world. And if you're looking to get an extra bite on your beer, you can accompany it with their house, tequila and sake. Service was fantastic. Finally made it out to this brewery for their vegan food fair, and I'm so glad I did! I've been wanting to check out the new location since I used to go to their previous one--and wow, it's a completely different vibe. I loved their old spot. It was dark and moody, which made sense for a place called Asylum Brewery. It had that edgy, underground feel. The new location? Total opposite--and I love it just as much! It's bright, open, and even family-friendly with video games, comfy sofas, and awesome artwork throughout. Despite the change in atmosphere, one thing stayed the same: top-notch beer. Cool spot with good beer. Our beer passport brought us here. It's close to where we live so will definitely come back. However, that being said we came in a Friday night and there's no food :( so we're just having our one beer and then will be leaving. Hubby and I came with the kids and PSA to other families, this one isn't the most family friendly. We're cool with the decor (we all love it) but the problem is not a lot of kid friendly seating. Plus it's a small space and it's our first time here so we didn't realize there isn't anywhere for the kids to run around. That doesn't knock anything off my rating but just an FYI for the other families that like to bring their kids to the brewery as well :) that being said, I'll still be back! But will have to make it an adults only spot for us and will make sure to check if food is being served the night we're coming since so we can plan accordingly! This place is pretty cool! The staff are nice, drinks are good. They have fun arcade games. Docking 1 star because the two times I went here for one beer, I got chest burn. This isn't normal for me. My boyfriend had the same experience, he usually doesn't get heartburn except from super cheap beer. I'd go back though even just for the chill vibe and arcade games. Good place to go with friends. We came here for a pop-up event for vegan food. They were out of a lot of the drinks that I was interested in in, which was disappointing. Overall, the food was good from the pop-ups, but there wasn't a lot of places to sit so it was pretty crowded. I wish they had some additional seating outside where they have the food vendors at. Asylum brewery is a few steps away from Anaheim Packing House. Well more like a block next to the park. So in my opinion this place had some of the best service in the area. A small brewery but the Aslyum theme definitely carries out into the beers. A number of pinball machines for you to play. The staff here was great especially as I did not know what I want. Being a light beer drinker in a craft brewery has its fair share of difficulties however the bartender offered samples and guided me through. They recommended a Dark Lager which was Amazing! This southern Germanic style beer was delicious and was so nice to find out here. The customers were great as there was a raffle going on and it felt like the local community was included. Met a few furry friends along the way as well. In regard to the beer itself, some of the best I have had in this area surrounding the Packing House. The names themselves are clever if you take a look at the menu photos provided. Flights are available on the menu. This is nice as a lot of breweries in the OC don't even offer this option. The red lighting definitely ads a unique touch to this small space. No kitchen but they have food vendors outside that are always available for your hunger cravings. read more

Knocked off a star because the beer is good, but not as good as some of the other breweries in the area. Staff is super friendly and the decor is unreal. Tried this place for the first time on a random Sunday afternoon. The venue is on point with the theme. Yes, this is an older review. I'm playing catch-up on the places I've been over the years, partially so I can remember if I'm ever back in the area and mainly so I can leave the reviews these places deserve for future customers. I'm glad to see Asylum has found a new home. At the time, the brewery didn't serve food here, so I can't comment on that aspect. Came here with a friend and her job as part of her company's party. I believe they rented the entire space for the hour we were there. I did enjoy the ambiance of the old location; however, I know popularity for this brewery has grown, and so should the space. In October 2018, the location was small but not cramped. The beer tanks were situated in the far back of the room with the few tables and barstools/chairs in the middle and other seating along the walls. My friend and I grabbed a couple stools on the side. Ordered a flight of 5 beers. The list had 9 options to choose from, and a number of them were on rotation. I opted for 2 light, 1 hoppy, and 2 dark beers. My favorite was definitely "Book of Bad Decisions," but I've always been more of a stout/porter/brown or red ale kinda gal since I got into beers after joining the military. We had one woman waiting on all of us. I was impressed with her patience and kind disposition. She was also extremely attentive and efficient. Highly recommend, and I'm hoping to check out the new spot next time I'm in CA. read more

My father (a veteran) recently underwent major back surgery and spent six months in the hospital recovering. For his birthday, I surprised him with a PintLife Passport, and we planned to visit all the participating breweries together as a father-son bonding experience. Our very first stop was Asylum Brewing--and it was an absolute disaster. We walked in and sat down at the bar and the bartender just ignored us for 20 straight minutes. Was not a busy day either. Finally we went to order and I presented the PintLife Passport, the bartender refused to honor it, even though this brewery is listed as a participant. I was very confused so I asked to speak with a manager in a very polite way hoping to clear up the issue. Not only did the manager refuse to accept the passport, but he was shockingly disrespectful--especially toward my father. I calmly explained the situation and even offered to pay for the beers myself just to keep the experience positive. But instead of showing even the slightest bit of decency, the manager smirked at us and said, "Well, we don't need your service anyway." Then he refused to serve us at all. I was absolutely stunned. My father, who has sacrificed two decades of his life serving this country, was treated like a nuisance and turned away for absolutely no reason. After leaving in disbelief, I contacted PintLife directly, and they were very kind and apologetic. They confirmed that Asylum Brewing was not upholding their end of the agreement. Avoid this place!!!! We left and went to villains brewery down the street and my dad got a free beer for his service! Go support that place not asylum read more

I was really looking forward to visiting Asylum Brewery, but unfortunately, they do not honor their own advertised promotions. I purchased a coupon book that clearly states they offer a beer for a penny, yet when I tried to redeem it, they refused and instead offered a completely different deal--Buy One, Get One Free--which is not what the coupon states. This is misleading and unfair to customers who purchased the book expecting businesses to uphold their agreements. If they were not going to honor the deal, they should not have participated in the program. It feels like a classic bait-and-switch tactic, and I'm very disappointed in their lack of integrity. If you're considering visiting Asylum Brewery for a deal they advertise--be warned that they may not follow through. There are plenty of other great breweries in the area that respect their customers and stand by their word. Would love to see the management take responsibility and make this right. Until then, I won't be returning or recommending this place to others. read more

I've been to a lot of breweries, and let me tell you--this was some of the worst I've ever had. Watery, bland, and one even tasted straight-up metallic. I couldn't even finish my beer. It's like they're not even trying. Strike two. And the service? Nonexistent. The staff acted like they were being forced to be there, barely acknowledged customers, and seemed totally uninterested in answering basic questions. Was so sad when we thought they closed down and we were sooo happy to see when they opened at their new location. It's such a perfect spot! Inside is spacious with plenty of tables and kept the theme of Asylum, dark and moody, love it! They have pinball machines and a lot of times they have DJs or some sort of event going on. Tuesday nights they have Tacos Los Cholos there with hardly ever a line! The service is amazing every time we go, the owner is so sweet and remembers my brother every time we go (he's been able to sit and chat more than myself), so that helps bring people back. The beer itself is great and they've really been killing it with their IPAs. Their stout with chocolate frosting was sweet, but was the perfect dessert finish to our tacos we had last Tuesday. Although their drink selection is small they have ample seating and pin ball machines/arcade games to keep yourself occupied.
