The ambiance was unimpressive. The fish in the sushi was completely FLAVORLESS. I was glad that I hadn't gotten the sashimi. They included lots of tempura bits in the rolls that made them palatable. The ginger was darkly dyed. The booth I sat in was oddly widely spaced so if you sat back in the seat you couldn't comfortably reach the table. They were playing Lady Gaga on the stereo. It must have been someone's birthday because all of a sudden the music was replaced with a LOUD recording of children singing "Happy Birthday." Just when I thought it couldn't get any more unpleasant, the children in the recording started singing the verses in different languages. Easily the worst restaurant experience of my life. Had a large reservation that we confirmed multiple times that the owner decided not to honor for any reason. Total confusion and general no idea what was going between waiters and managers. When we said we had a reservation we were called liars and told that we had no such reservation. An hour later when we were finally seated and we were given probably the worst quality of service I have we've received in my life. The Worst service and the Worst food Ever!! DON'T GO I ordered Hibachi chicken lunch special. I pointed at the Hibachi Chicken in the lunch special page and told the guy I wanted this. The food was awful..... oily, no flavor but a bit soy sauce smell. I was super hungry, but after a few bite, I felt like throwing up. The Worst food I've ever had. When we're going to check out, a bigger problem came. My check listed "Hibachi Chicken" 14.xx(forgot exactly how much). Weird! The lunch special should be 8.85. We asked the guy who took the order. He said that we didn't tell him we wanted lunch special!!! I told him that I pointed at the menu, the lunch special page! My boyfriend and I used to eat at Asuka many times because we live so close. But I will not be back. I may not even be back to the new location. Last week my boyfriend and I went and the next day we were both sick with food poisoning. I remember I gave both my dogs left over steak and two days later I had to throw away carpets because they ruined them from poop and throw up. This restaurant had decent service until an error was made with one of our main meals. The server did not carefully look over our sushi order sheet and I waited over an hour until he finally came to give us our check and we mentioned that he forgot my meal. He then proceeded to find my sheet and place my order, but didn't care to take my meal off the tab because of his mistake. When I mentioned the error, he was adamant that I pay for the food and it took at least 4 times of me asking him repeatedly for a manger for him to finally get one. He then lied about the situation, threw away my form and brought me false examples of the form, all while the manager encouraged his behavior. After 20 minutes of more arguing, the manager finally agreed to drop the mistake off of the tab, but only after I, again, explained why and wouldn't take no for an answer. My plate was then snatched from me, even though I was not finished eating, and I was mistreated by the staff until I left. I will not be going back again, nor would i recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

For non-sushi fans the hibachi is fun to take friends too, but I wouldn't waste my money on their smelly hibachi fish- stick with chicken. By far the worst restaurant in Bloomington, I have only been here for two month, by friend actually told me this is a bad restaurant but I had to try it. I ordered beef noodle soup, the noodle is okay but the beef is either too hard that I can't even eat it, or it is a bit sour. Which means that is been too long and it is bad. I was surprised to see all of the negative reviews of Asuka; I have never had anything but good experiences there! After trying a couple of other sushi places in town, this one is definitely my fiance's and my favorite. I can only speak for their vegetarian cuisine, but he eats fish and still says it's the best out of the restaurants we have tried. We also did the hibachi grill once and that was spectacular. They did tricks, including the onion volcano. It was neat! The waiters we have had have always been polite and helpful. read more

I ate at Asuka today for the first time and I wasn't really that impressed. I didn't try the habachi, only the sushi. We got the regular roll combo and while the portion of the sushi was pretty good, the quality of the fish was just okay. The california roll had sesame seeds on the outside which ruined them for me. The rice underneath the nigiri kept falling apart so it made the sushi hard to eat. Some of the fish was too dry to eat. It would be better to pay slightly more at Ami or Sushi Bar and get getter sushi then settle for Asuka. read more

No complaints here. Took our little girl out for a NYE dinner and the entire staff could not have been better. Very friendly and polite. We enjoyed ourselves and the meal. We had hibachi chicken and shrimp. The chef put on a very entertaining show for our daughter. Food was excellent and more then we could possibly eat. Don't order anything hibachi unless you're at the hibachi table. I was traveling for business and had a craving for hibachi steak. I stopped in and read the menu and made sure that while it said teriyaki steak as well as hibachi steak that I could order hibachi items and sit in the dining room rather than at the hibachi stove table so I could read while I ate. I ordered the hibachi steak (medium) and a couple of appetizers figuring I'd go ahead and enjoy it since I was springing for such while by myself. One appetizer came out (cold tempura shrimp) right before the entrée - which was smothered in teriyaki sauce and sesame seeds. I assumed they got the order wrong, since the hibachi shrimp dinner on the table next to me looked normal. I asked if that was the teriyaki steak and not the hibachi since the teriyaki glaze was running off the plate and since I didn't get any white sauce and the table next to me that ordered hibachi did. The waitress said that no, that was hibachi steak. I asked then what is the difference between the teriyaki steak and the hibachi steak aside from over $10 in price, and she was at a loss aside from mumbling something about how they cooked it before she left. I was starving and tried it anyway, and the steak was severely burnt on one side. A few minutes later the edamame came out (cold) that I ordered as an appetizer. I complained to the people at the front and they tried the same story about that's how they make it even in the back with the hibachi tables, when I pointed out the other hibachi dishes weren't like that and asked what the difference was aside from the increased price and they were at a loss again. Even for teriyaki steak which wasn't what I wanted/ordered, it was horrible. Overcooked, and just disgusting. I had to specifically ask for white sauce (since it doesn't come with the teriyaki steak which was what I got despite my order) and the overall cleanliness was sorely lacking. They did nothing to resolve this issue with me aside from tell me that's how it's cooked there despite other hibachi dishes not being that way or being able to tell me what the difference between the two steak dishes were aside from price. They did nothing when I mentioned how burnt and horrible the dish was, how cold my shrimp tempura and edamame were, and were just plain horrible. read more

If I could give this -3 stars, I would. My party went to Asuka tonight expecting some great hibachi food, as we've received there in the past, but what we got on our plates was nothing less than crap. They messed up almost all of our orders, which could almost be understandable, if there was some miscommunication between the waiter and ourselves; however, the chef read off the correct order before cooking it and still managed to mess it up. Furthermore, my friend, who ordered the chicken, definitely DID NOT receive chicken. We all tried the "substance" that was on her plate, and we were unable to identify exactly what it was. My mother thought it was fish, my friend thought it was fat, and I thought it was some form of egg noodle. When we asked about it, the waiter, the cook, and even the manager all insisted it was chicken. Realizing that complaining would not get us anywhere, we asked for the check, where they continued to not only charge for food we ordered but did not actually receive, but they also overcharged on a simple glass of wine. We will definitely NOT be eating there again, and we urge others to avoid it at ALL costs. read more
