Need to add an option for Zero or No stars. Disgusted with RCN and looking for a new Internet Service Provider. There was an outage on our street and we called RCN, our ISP. The customer service rep insisted it was our equipment so we called the company we bought our equipment through and found it was not our equipment. We called RCN back and they sent a technician out. He discovered RCN had disconnected our service in error. This whole issue took 2 weeks so we were without internet and I often work from home which was very inconvenient. We called to get a refund for the 2 weeks we were without service. They would only give us a refund for 1 week. Terrible customer service! RCN has been my provider for the last 18 yrs...yes they suck and I recently got married and called to change my last name and they informed me that I would have to pay a fee to do so. I have changed my last name to my new last name with every other business with no problem or FEE. So, if I must pay the fee to change it I will change my account to FUQ YU because that's what they are basically saying to me. Btw, have always paid my bill and have never been late...so you'd think I would be a valued customer...SMH. read more

Be careful when cancelling your service with RCN. They just took $645 out of my debit card today because they did not receive their equipment back fast enough. They come to your house and install everything, but when you cancel, YOU have to figure out how to disconnect everything and also go to them during business hours to return their equipment. They do not come to you, they do not send you any return shipping box, nor tags. It's basically your problem and they will not even give you the courtesy of a simple phone call to warn you that if you don't return it within a day or two, you will BUY their converter boxes at an absurd price. They will not apologize, they will not believe that no one gave any instruction on what to do. This is irresponsible and abusive. Imagine nearly $700 vanishing from your bank account today. Worst company I ever dealt with when it comes to internet providers. Their reps and supervisors (that sound like they are operating from a basement) are so undertrained and rude besides their internet service being crappy. They also play games with you and raise their prices, the more loyal you've been to them the worse they treat you. Their Channel organization is very sloppy. It is hard to navigate the channel guide the channels are all over the place they need to group like channels together news, in one place movies in another and talk shows not scattered all over. I haven't been able to watch TV since I had them because it is so annoying. If it wasn't for the wife I would have gotten rid of it from the beginning. Also my bill went up $42.00 in a 2 month billing cycle . Doesn't matter if you cut down on services it will still go up to what you were paying before. RCN is pricing themselves out of customers. RCN Is not going to like this but I am dumping the cable why?????? because we found a better alternative where we would save $75.00 a month with better channel lineup and better channel organization. I've lived all over the US and so far RCN ranks among the worst cable companies I've dealt with. I thought ComCast was not-so-great the last place I lived. I'd run back to ComCast in a heartbeat at this point. Granted RCNs internet speeds aren't bad, so I have no issue with that. In fact they upgraded me for free just to keep me from going to Service Electric, which I was considering at the time. What I do take issue with is the cable TV. Their channel selection is horrible, HORRIBLE, compared to what you pay for...and their rates seem to go up whenever they get the notion to raise them. A few months ago the rate went from $122 to $128, for no apparent reason. Now it just went up to $144. I just talked to them a few minutes ago about this latest rate increase and, of course, there was nothing anyone could (or would) do. My only recourse was/is to cancel cable TV altogether. That would have lowered the bill to $77, keeping only the internet. I give them 2 stars because of (1) the internet is fairly quick and reliable and (2) Samantha, who I just spoke to, did try to help resolve the situation but was unable to. I've read some pretty unsavory reviews of RCN on here...but I've read equally unflattering reviews of Service Electric and DirectTV. So I guess the best I can say is to ask which of these companies do you want to give a ton of money to every month, for marginal-quality service? All 3 of the aforementioned options seem to be equally bad. Unless you're okay with disconnecting from the world, reading every day or night and listening to your transistor radio, you're going to have to make a "deal with the devil" with one of these money vacuum companies. Sad but true. I just can't wait to leave the Lehigh Valley (which pretty much sucks anyway) where I can at least get a decent selection of channels from ComCast again. read more

I have had the worse experience any cable service providers can ever provide. My original order never got approved due to the sales associate inputting the wrong information and there fore the order and installation never happened. Also they never called me to let me know that the order was not completed and therefore canceled the installation. So I called back the day of installation I called and found out they are not coming! That same day the associate told me he can help me out its no problem! I placed the order again (no notes in system what was one original order!!) and set installation appointment. The installation tech comes out to do his job.. (they gave me the short end of the stick, no triple play, only cable and internet, and they do not give me what's in the promotion what a rip off these sales associate are!!) but the installation tech did his job with what he was to install. Unfortunately had to call again, (3rd call and I am livid) so I call and the associate this time takes a hour of my time to let me know that she can not help me out and there fore need to speak with a sales associate, transfers me to have to wait 15 more minutes ( see how much time of my life is wasted) so now the sales associate tells me she is able to correct everything gives me another installation date for phone and gives me what is promised by the promotion from there website, I hang up and when going to watch tv we find out the HBO, Showtime and Movie channel are not available!!! "Now I am beyond livid" . Have to call again but wait until the next day to find out no changes to my order have been made, corrections not in system and bill has not changed!! Truthfully unsatisfactory service, waste of time "My time", incompetent staff "they do not take your time to be valuable" and no one keeps there promise "Come on get it right the first time", and their prices are to expensive!! if I could be with Verizon I would but they do not service this area!!! read more

RCN has the worst CustomerService. When you call they keep you on hold for so long, I guess they are hoping you get frustrated and hang up. If you use their chat, it takes forever and they usually can't solve your problem but they don't realize that until they kept you on the chat for at least an hour. Sitting around waiting sucks, but sitting around waiting for shitty service sucks even more .... I had RCN a few years ago and canceled because of coast.. so recently I decided to just get internet services with them because that's all I really need. I set up my installation date for a Saturday with a time slot of 10-12. yeah, so it's 12:20 and no cable guy. I call where's my cable guy? Automated system tells me the cable guy is running late, it would've been nice if I would've got a phone call before I called in to let me know. Shortly after my call I receive a phone call from RCN letting me know that the tech will be late and if I wanted to wait he was supposed to be here within the hour. So it would be between the hours of 12:30 (when RCN called me) and 1:30. So I agreed.... Now at 1:40 this tech is still not here!! I called again, Here they changed my timeslot from 12 to 2pm. WTF Wasted my whole morning waiting for Johnny the cable guy. No wonder there is a running joke about the cable guys.. RCN's customer service for technical issues in unsatisfactory. For three weeks I have been trying to get through without getting through to anyone. I've called on peak and non-peak hours. I've also contacted the printer manufacturer, and the wireless manufacturer using their FAQ's.Couldn't get anywhere. I finally decided tofind answers on tech forums on the internet so I could handle the technical issue myself. Tech forums were very helpful. When RCN hooked up THEIR wireless router, all of my connectivity to my printer was lost. So, I disconnected theirs and re-connected my original router. I did not have to change any settings. All laptops are working, and able to print again, no thanks to RCN. read more

They also store your "contact numbers" so when you call, they decide way before they know why you are calling, how long to put you on hold for. I called three different times from my number and got a 20 minute hold response, used a friends cell number at the same time for the same options and it was an immediate "tech support" connection, when they asked what number was associated with the account, I was placed on hold again and a voice came on and said you have a 20 minutes hold time. If I could give 0 stars I would. I could list at least 50 things that went wrong in the year and a half I used RCN. I moved and kept the same services and surprise charges kept coming up from "changing services" which I was told wouldn't happen if I kept the same plan. Auto pay skipped once without me noticing (which is literally the purpose of auto pay) and got charged 398.00. They made a mistake and took an extra 73 dollars out of my account. I was told by an account specialist who called me personally not to pay my next bill because they would take care of it if i stayed instead of switching to another cable provider. And then 73 would be taken off the one after that because of the overcharge. Now they're telling me I owe 200 because I missed a payment. lol. I can't wait to drop RCN. Customer service is awful. One lady actually said "are you going to cancel your services or what?" Talked to 10 people and they all tell me something different. Do yourself a favor and get another cable provider. Or at least make sure you DO NOT enroll in auto pay. Nobody even knows where the extra charges come from. All of this for slow internet and 10 channels! read more

They advertise a package that includes Gig internet and Signature TV for $44.99/month... until you try to select the package and start service, then they let you know the RIDICULOUS upcharge to $195/month. Per a customer representative, the "equipment, fees, taxes" cost $150 monthly. 3 times the service cost. They're crooks - I cancelled my cable service and chose to keep my Gig internet service (the same service a close friend has and pays $45/month for) and I'm somehow still paying these people $98/month for the same equipment, speed, and service. The advertised price for my package was 59.95...63.93 with the 2 digital converters. That was lie number 1. When the rep. added all the taxes, surcharges and fees, he quoted me $89.95. While I thought that was outrageous, I agreed to it. When I got the bill, it was not for $89.95 but rather $99.95. That was lie number 2. After 6 months with the new TIVO service, my main box stopped working. A technician came out and ultimately decided my box was bad and replaced it. All good, until the bill came. It contained a service charge. When I called for explanation, I was told (in broken record style) that wiring is billed. Been a customer with RCN phone and internet for 14 years. Last year my bill was $49, then it went to $60 about six months ago. Just got notified that it is now going up to $79. Very Bad experience on RCN customer service. I had internet connection problem after moving to new apartment.So I called to customer service and they send somebody to look. After one month I saw that they charge $49.99 in my credit card for the technician which is ridiculous. They never mentioned about the charge during the call. Even I asked two three times and they keep said that there will be no charge. Also I had 25MBPS internet connection which is not really 25Mbps. I am extremely dissatisfied with the service provided by this company! After upgrading to their "signature" package, which does not even include channels I watch, I was not able to watch "On Demand" for the "signature" channels I paid for. This went on for a month. I called them 2x. Each time the tech sent a signal to the cable box that was supposed to remedy the situation. The second time, the tech also suggested that I disconnect all of the cable boxes and assured me, that although that would take longer, it would guarantee the "resetting" of the cable boxes and pickup the "signature" channels. None of this worked, so I cancelled the service. The customer service reps did not even attempt to offer some kind of discount for the service(s) I did not receive on this "signature" package. In addition, each time they tried to "up-sell" me to their premium packages. As if! Though I'm a long time customer (soon to change) RCN recently declined my request for credit to my account for eight months of a package they'd been charging me for, a package I didn't order and didn't even know I had access to. Essentially, they reached into my pocket and stole $80 from me. When I complained I was told that each month I had 30 days to review my bill and complain. Too late now.... These people are outright thieves! I'd like to add that their TiVo Mini is to be avoided because you'll spend four seconds waiting every time you make a channel change. I have totally had it with RCN. I've been with them for 18 years and have spent countless hours on the phone about no network, no internet, modem not working, and over and over email addresses disappearing. When my husband was alive his disappeared and when they fixed it he got over 14,000 emails which dated back 18 years. Today once again I had no network, no internet. I moved from a 4K sq door home to a 1600 sq door home and had to pay an extra $9.95 per month for their Erro because of such poor internet. To add insult to injury the guy cane to install it said it will take a couple hours to install and left. After he left I noticed an error message so I ended up installing it myself. Now this evening out of nowhere I went to email someone and it told me my email address doesn't exist. I called them only to be told my email is linked to my husbands who died 6 months ago and no longer is on the account nor has an email account. All I hear from them is I do apologize for that. Loathe being held hostage by internet providers. Because my "promotional" period ended, my monthly internet bill went from $39.99 to $59.99 with no increase in service. I called RCN and complained so the customer service person offered to reduce my bill $5 and increase my internet speed to 50 mpbs. He told me that was the best he could offer......I told him, no thanks.....I waited and called RCN back to accept the offer even though I don't need nor want the faster speed. All I want is the same service for a lower monthly cost....This customer service person couldn't find the "original" offer in my account so she offered a new deal. I keep the 25 mpbs for a monthly cost of $49.99. When I asked why the first rep couldn't offer me that "deal" the second rep couldn't give me an answer. Loathe the games these utility companies plan. The only bad thing about moving to Bethlehem would be RCN. I had them about 7 years ago and their customer service was SO BAD I swore I'd never do it again!!!! (Bill was always inflated!!, Rebooting my router nearly every day and customer service representatives who were always rude and out right lied all the time. Nothing was ever handled when they said it was!!!) I moved back last month and didn't have much of a choice but to try them again since I can't get FIOS here (CRYING!!!) That lasted 24 hours!!! They tried to contact a boyfriend through me in an attempt to collect a debt (I would't give his info even if I did have it after that shady call!) and lets talk about the customer service rep who refused to place my call into a supervisor and then put it on hold and just left it there. It took two months for them to admit someone their end screwed up! So like any good and p--off person would do, I changed cable companies. I went to Blue Ridge cable. Turns out it's a national conspiracy and should be investigated at the highest level. There actual product service is the worst I have ever dealt with, the people are ok to deal with but you can hear in the tone of their voice most don't have a clue and are reading of a screen. Then there's the tech that shows up to your door that looks like the wacky professor let out on a work furlough who blames the problem on an area problem they can't seem to find right up to and including outside forces, yet the guy who lives two doors down on the SAME main line doesn't have a problem. I would like to give less than 1 star for RCN. Their customer service is pathetic; you get a different answer with each different person you speak to. Their Internet service is a joke. It goes out almost daily and is SO slow! They charge rental fees for every little thing that other companies do not charge fees for.
