1. When the company responds, it's not helpful. When "Jackie" responds it yelled at me over the phone just about the increase in charges and bad service. Neither of these are new issues and "Jackie" and responding with actual help and no yelling would be different. 2. Received 3 pkgs of replacement tv equipment for me to install. It would've been nice if they sent a note stating this was going to happen. That note arrived some days AFTER I got the package. Chat rep said no install due date but my spouse called simultaneously and the rep gave a more realistic answer. We had to move quickly or be screwed again by the company. 3. I replaced the equipment and fully expected issues because that's what we've had for 8 years. We knew all our recordings would be deleted and now without manual search on the remote I can't find a program that I had recorded about 20 shows. They're now trash. (I will replace one if I can find a remote that allows this.) We don't feed A.I. or voice and I never will if I can help it. So it's useless. I have one bad + positive thing to say about a rep. My tv kept stating "Internet is down" but it wasn't. I continually swapped internet access modes until I was too tired to keep "watching" it for a sec and have it freeze then I change the access to the internet. Chat rep the following day told me to unplug the modem and plug it back in. I'm so used to issues with this company (and I'm waiting for more in the next month) that I assumed the rep didn't know and was taking a potshot at the fix. But, IT WORKED. So, one thanks goes out to the rep. It in no way means if I get the chance, I'm dumping the service (and I hope that on a daily basis). read more

The new TiVo service that was forced upon us does not work. Recorded programs buffer and freeze. You can not get thru to customer service without an unreasonable hold time that is often more than 45 minutes. Rates continue to increase while quality decreases. Stay away from this internet service provider. Tried to get my daughter internet service setup with Astound. Long story short they expected her to pay a previous tenants balance that had them when they lived where my daughter now leases the apartment. When I reached out to them they stated that since this previous tenant has same last name as her she is expected to pay the balance if she wants internet service. read more

I am truly baffled by this company. I've had them for 2 weeks. They never turned on my Internet and said I need to hire one of their techs to come out. Refused to troubleshoot via phone or chat. They gave me a bill for the entire month despite only "having the service" for 2 weeks and them never even turning on the service. I know as a fact this does not require a technician to come out (unless they are still cutting their own wires like I heard they used to). I said, "I understand billing may start automatically, but consumer billing requires that services actually be provided. Since the service was never functional, this charge should be credited," and the agent ended the chat. read more

I changed my rating from five stars to one. Astound recently FORCED us to accept TiVo!! I was blissfully happy before this MANDATORY upgrade! I totally understood that progress and change is to be expected. I received no advance notice until a package arrived at my home from them. I immediately called and questioned if they had sent this to the wrong place because I didn't order anything. Then I was informed that I was supposed to have received a letter and a phone call with explanations which I did not. Okay I thought, this is upgrading so my first concern was the cost! My husband and I are seniors and are on an extremely fixed income and are trying to reduce everything that we can. I asked the operator what the increase would be and she ASSURED me that there would be absolutely NO increase and with the new upgrade it would probably be a little cheaper than the bill has previously been. It did take us awhile to figure out how the whole thing works which was very frustrating. I had ALL my shows programmed into the device that we had for years and we were very happy little campers. Now nothing is programmed and I have to start all over from scratch, of course you have to wait until the show comes on before you can program it to save it and it took quite a while to figure out how to program and our regular shows. Buffering with a whole other story when first set up. It literally took 3 hours to watch a 1 hour show. My husband jiggled around fiddled around and whatever it is he did and now it's not quite as bad. But I have to go through the whole lineup every week to see when our new season of shows is beginning. I'm quite frustrating. Now for the important part.. as I said earlier we were assured that there would be no increase financially! Well the lady lied!! The Bill arrive and it WAS INCREASED by around $80!! I was beyond shocked! We are both extremely close to 80 years old and cannot afford that kind of an increase! I was going along with the upgrade because I understand these things happen but why should their upgrade cost us probably a week's groceries! I think it was unfair that they snuck this in us the way they did. I know their profits are over the roof and they are very happy making all the money they're making. They could have had a little more consideration and class in handling the situation the way they did. I understood and went along with everything until the outright lie that my bill would probably go down. read more

I have been an rcn / astound customer for 40 years. Down to only internet from them. Current charge is $92 a Month for 100 mps and modem. Saw on their website internet for $30, $40, and $60 for new customers only. They will not give this deal to old customers. You would get a lot more mps and free modem forever. "Jackie" from customer service must be a bot or AI that auto replies to these messages to make it look like someone from customer service cares about anything posted here. I'm sure many companies do this so I won't bash on Astound, at least we can all know where we stand when it comes to keeping their customers happy. It's very clear, subscriber retention means nothing...they only care about bringing in new business which makes no sense. I called Astound on July 22, 2025, to cancel my internet service. They refused to cancel immediately, claiming a "new policy" only allows cancellations at the end of a billing cycle -- meaning I'm being forced to pay through August 7, even though I'm no longer using the service. When I asked for a copy of this policy, they could not provide one and there was nothing available for me to review online or in writing. There is also no option to cancel online, only by phone, which I waited for 64min. to speak with someone. Shady tactic to charge customers for services they don't want or need. After having a house fire and needing to discontinue my service temporarily until I'm back in my house I called them to have my service turned off. I had already paid for service for that month and they couldn't refund that, well fine, but then they went ahead and charged me for the next month as well even though they know I can't even use my service right now. This is how they treat their customers of 25 years. I'll find a new provider when I move back into my house. Update: A social media representative responded to my post asking me to email her to resolve this issue and I did. It has been almost 2 months and she hasn't responded to my email so don't look at the responses they leave here as trying to resolve issues, they are trying to make themselves look like a good company that cares about their customers without actually caring. I am in a rental home now and got T-Mobile wireless 5G home Internet. It works better than Astound/RCN ever did and it is only $50 per month instead of $120. They gave me a free 2 week trial and a free TV after being a customer for 2 months. read more

Earlier today I left a review of astound broadband/RCN. It was pretty long because I was trying to get a service and through the course of a week and a half two weeks I ended up having to talk to five people with no result and wasted timeI someone named Jackie from the company a service manager wrote back. She said that I am to contact them on a private message for assistance 1. She never left an email address or phone number for me to send a private message 2. And why should I have to contact her. I tried three separate times to get a hold of a manager and each representative told me that a manager was just going to tell me the same thing and that they could handle it and I would say no I want to talk to a manager and they would not do so. On the fourth try I asked for a manager and someone came on the phone and after she spoke about the product I said to her you're not really a manager are you and she says no I'm a lead representative If a customer of mine who's been with me for over 20 years dealt with something like this I would pick up the phone and call her and make it right Once again RCN has failed miserably!! read more

If I could rate it with zero stars, I would! Background: I used RCN for years due to its relatively lower pricing, but this year, I decided to cancel this sneaky and full of BS company. I understand prices increase over time. However, without any email or other proper communication, it increases the monthly rate by 25%! I believe most people in the 21st century use automatic payment (it's not a problem if you don't). But how many of you guys read the billing statement page by page??? Yup- you guessed right, RCN claimed "yeah, we notified you, in your billing statement." Of course when you look it up, it's just a small line in the last page of a statement no one reads. Second, they also claim you can cancel anytime. Don't get fooled. You still need to pay for another billing cycle before disconnection becomes effective. And the prorated refund is not a thing anymore. God knows how they notified their consumers this time! When I cancelled my services, the agent had no clue of this new policy and told me I should receive a prorated refund. Instead, I received a full price bill a month after requesting the disconnection. To sum up in one word about RCN: AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

The manager couldn't give me any answers. They seem like they are trying to charge for things I don't have and don't care about the customer. Terrible customer service. Charges for EVERYTHING. When you cancel service, they will not disconnect until the last day of your billing cycle. Called to cancel on 6/9/25 and they tried to say I have to pay until 6/29/25. Had to file a complaint with the PA Public Utility Commission. read more

Never had a problem in 10 years with Astound, THEN I opted for their "free" mobile service and the bottom dropped out. On my first bill, the "free" cost me an additional $70 for 1 line. Called last week to find out what happened and it keeps being kicked down the road...but they tell me I still owe the "free" $70 until it is resolved. I'm been a RCN customer for over 15 years. Since they switched to Astound, the service has dropped considerably. Today I noticed that my monthly internet bill jumped to nearly $100. Trying to get someone on the phone, I ran into issues with their automated system. It kept asking for home or business but would keep asking multiple times. awful! don't waste your money and run!! internet has been working intermittentl, sent a tech out then recieved a letter that my bill was incorrect and it would be increasing five dollars a month more but not to worry they wouldn't charging me for the months that were not charged that five dollar fee. Had RCN / Astound for the last 8 years at my residence. On the whole, it's been a good experience. I have very robust internal infrastructure (layer 3 Cisco switch, Unifi AP's on each floor, CAT6 everywhere, customer owned cable modem, terminated RJ45 in multiple rooms) and on the whole my service is quite good. I'd say for the money I'm paying I'm seeing about 2/3 of the speed I'm expecting, and at times service can be QUITE degraded. But I RARELY ever lose it at all, and for the most part I'm very satisfied - so long as we can keep negotiating reasonable pricing to me. My only real grip is the asymmetric one. Uploads are capped at 25Mb, and that's a bit annoying at times. But I also remember one-way cable modems, so I guess that's why I tolerate it :) read more

I had to tell the rep to ask their supervisor for help because they were already convinced my account didn't exist. I had been a customer for over 3 years and the monthly bill for only internet service increased multiple times (from $75 to $120). Making matters worse, the WiFi signal was inconsistent, so we'd have to wait for videos to buffer for example - which was a major inconvenience. After a while it simply wasn't worth the $120/month charge so we switched to another provider. read more

In my area RCN / Astound are the only real option, and trust me, they know it. If you call to argue price, they put you on hold to check options (yours, not theirs). Once they confirm you have none, they don't budge. Another gripe is they continue to charge you a modem rental of 25 bucks long after you have paid for the modem several times over. So, bring your own modem, and just be prepared for yearly price increases until another provider makes serious moves in your area. read more

I was a RCN customer for about 18 years. The service included home internet and a landline phone. I don't remember how much I was paying at the beginning but my bill climbed to the point it reached $ 203.32/month for home internet (poor quality home internet) and a landline that stopped working. I cancelled the service and returned their equipment on 09/30/2024 but RCN just charged me again for a service that I'm not getting. Please don't sign an autopayment with this company. read more

When I used to live in bethlehem on Linden street they had trucks parked next to or near my house. The installer I paid had left my network open intentionally. I have been an RCN customer for many years. I have had consistent issues through the years with the wifi signal dropping. In the past 4 and a half months I have had to call 5 times as a result of wifi signal dropping totally. I have had cou tless new modems. Modem replaced 2 months ago. Needs to be replaced yet again and have been without wifi for a couple days. All this might be tolerable if anybody in their customer service department cared in any way. They are rude and indifferent, could care less about doing any ki d of a job which would .ake them valuable to the company. Worst customer service I've ever consistently experienced. Called a customer care supervisor and even he refuses to call back and ignores all messages left. At this point will be switching to t-mobile or Verizon. Anyone wanting to switch to RCN... Astound RCN changed my CLASSIC e mail to Modern without my permission and the system will not set back properly to Classic. For reasons unknown Classic is whited out on the left hand column under mail folders and the e mails open to blank or open to white out no messages displayed. Astound RCN has admitted the fault is with them and many clients have been reporting this ongoing issue but now ongoing several days and no one seems to be able to resolve this "crazy" problem and Im not sure anyone even cares. Also of concern when I called and spoke with the Astound RCN Rep the Rep requested my password and informed me it was just a verbal request so she could log into my e mail hoping to help me. Then without my permission she sent my password in writing to the IT department to sit open in the queue until who know when someone might pick up the ticket and work on it maybe next Wed or Thursday. The Rep didnt seem to be aware of password safety and or cyber risks as the general population knows quite well there has been many breaks in password security. Most companies put forth efforts to protect their customers from password breeches unfortunately learning from the breeches many companies were impacted from such as Target, First Financial, Facebook, Experian, Marriott, to name a few. I am hoping for a resolve for the Classic e mail white out problem but not getting my hopes up. Please guard your password with Astound RCN be careful and please dont give your password out to be written down and sent to a department to sit open in a queue for a week. read more

Summary: Astound internet is unreliable. Technical support has tried to sell me on increasing the speed to levels that are not needed for a person who lives alone. Even after having technicians to my house and increasing the speed to an appropriate level for my needs, I still have unstable internet. Whole story: I have been having several issues with unstable internet that makes it very difficult to go on Zoom calls. In the past few months, I have had four technicians scheduled to come to my house. The first technician appointment got canceled in their system even after I confirmed it. The second technician said the problem was water in the equipment on the power pole next to my house. Still having issues with an unstable connection, I increased the speed thinking that was the problem. The problems continued with no improvement. I was convinced to increase the speed again, but there was nothing available at the top speed of my equipment, so I had to upgrade the modem and a technician had to come - again an upsell. Everything was up to speed, literally, when the technician left. An hour later the internet stopped working and I had to call again. Three days later, I was still having the same issues with an unstable connection with a new modem and increased speed. The only thing technical support could do was restart my modem. Once it restarted, there was no improvement in the speed. The next day my internet was completely out. I spent 30 minutes on the phone troubleshooting and sending signals to my equipment and nothing worked. I'll be out of internet completely for at least four days until a fourth technician -this time a supervisor -can come out. Completely unacceptable. I DO NOT recommend this service. read more
