The IPTV TiVo is awful, customer service disconnected my service while talking about rescheduling a service call for a new modem. The TiVo IPTV box is the worst. The viewing guide is not accurate. Some of my favorate shows shows are on but listed as something else. The screen or power saver isn't adjustable for how much time until it activates. You are watching a movie or a series and the screen goes into the save mode if you don't hit the ok button. If you fast forward or rewind sometimes it rewinds or fast forward to the beginning or end of the program right away. The remote command are inconsistent for the least. My promo time ended and they charges me $100 more without any heads up the promo time ran out. I called when I saw the charges change and was able to get a new promo with a modem update. I scheduled the service to have the modem changed out with no issues. Then my wife had an appointment the day of the service and I called to change the service date. Who ever I talked to did something and while talking to them my phone internet and cable went out and would not connect. I had to call them on my cell phone to get this corrected and rescheduled the service call and confirm the promo information and price. I think between the my original call for the get a new promo pricing and the next 2 calls was about 3 hours phone time. My suggestion is to make sure you allow hours when you contact customer service and make sure your service is working when you are done talking with them. read more

We've had the new-horrible IPTV for over a month. It's probably cheaper for them but it's not better than cable for us. The new equipment shouldn't have been a surprise and I hate it. My spouse knows the internet will come back eventually (and it's still an issue so they get no leeway from me and we're paying almost $400 a month (it includes HBO ($17) and HDTV. TRY ANY OTHER SERVICE BEFORE THIS COMPANY. IT'S BAD in every way. Support, when not local, most of the time has no clue what they're even talking about. We have 3 tvs and 2 are within 20' or less of the modem/router on 2nd floor. 2nd floor tvs do the same thing - they drop the internet (and it may be throttling by astound, I don't know). One tv got moved from one room on the 1st floor into a fairly open are in a room right across from the room it was in for 7 years. They changed how the screen (tv) is viewed and it cuts off part of the screen with the FF, rewind, pause. It's annoying and interferes when I'm trying to read something. It does a weird auto rewind too many times and I'm pressing the right button. When I go back into the show, I often have to ff it to where I think I left off. rcn, do this ten times in 30 minutes and tell me how you feel. I'm ready to throw something at rcn/astound (not our tv). The signal on the internet drops too much on all tvs. I had a recorded show on and it kept coming up with three circles (so the internet usually drops when that happens and in ten minutes, I've had to disconnect the damn internet and reconnect it again 4 x). I changed rooms and tvs. rcn/astound/jackie don't respond to this - words are bogus as is the name. I went from being frustrated a lot to being frustrated and angry with the company every time I try to watch tv. I'm one person out of two and my vote for about 8 years has been to ditch the company. Terrible Internet-it buffered so much I had to stop watching the TV until I finally put my own modem and router on. Astound blamed my TV even though it buffered and disconnected on all my devices. I was told if a technician came out, I would have to pay. I finally found another provider and cancelled, but was told that I would have to pay through the end of the billing period even though I wasn't using it. Terrible Internet and terrible service!!! SERIOUSLY, STAY AWAY. We've had them for almost a decade and something screwy happens most of the time. I opened a BBB report a few years ago and the representative from rcn promised something I insisted be spelled out in my complaint because the rep didn't exactly tell the truth and I was aware her promise wouldn't happen. It never happened. We're at the point where there's sound drop-off and tiling (our tvs are from about 2 yrs old to 4). It's just the way it goes. We're tired of dealing with them and tired of incompetence and tired of the prices going up (their modem/router is so old, I've looked for parts for it and they no longer exist). We got a box of equipment from rcn/astound recently. No warning this would happen and they wanted me to install it (several tvs). I asked if they could send a tech and do the install. I was told yes (no charge). I asked when the equipment had to be installed (I was told there was no date - I sure didn't trust that but it's what I was told). Called rcn/astound today to schedule the install - it's about 3 weeks from now. But after the call ended, live tv died (on all sets). I went on Chat. Spouse called them. As is common, we got two very different answers. I "hung up" on chat. My rep obviously didn't know what she was doing or how anything worked. Spouse's rep was fabulous. She's reporting the person who set up the appointment - that person caused the problem and she figured that out. Tech is now coming in two days. Honestly, it's a little scary ... what else is going to happen besides rates skyrocketing. So, for some hours on the phone/chat was @20 mins. of bs. and no tv, we'll be given a credit of about $7. The new TiVo service that was forced upon us does not work. Recorded programs buffer and freeze. You can not get thru to customer service without an unreasonable hold time that is often more than 45 minutes. Rates continue to increase while quality decreases. Stay away from this internet service provider. Tried to get my daughter internet service setup with Astound. Long story short they expected her to pay a previous tenants balance that had them when they lived where my daughter now leases the apartment. When I reached out to them they stated that since this previous tenant has same last name as her she is expected to pay the balance if she wants internet service. read more

I changed my rating from five stars to one. Astound recently FORCED us to accept TiVo!! I was blissfully happy before this MANDATORY upgrade! I totally understood that progress and change is to be expected. I received no advance notice until a package arrived at my home from them. I immediately called and questioned if they had sent this to the wrong place because I didn't order anything. Then I was informed that I was supposed to have received a letter and a phone call with explanations which I did not. Okay I thought, this is upgrading so my first concern was the cost! My husband and I are seniors and are on an extremely fixed income and are trying to reduce everything that we can. I asked the operator what the increase would be and she ASSURED me that there would be absolutely NO increase and with the new upgrade it would probably be a little cheaper than the bill has previously been. It did take us awhile to figure out how the whole thing works which was very frustrating. I had ALL my shows programmed into the device that we had for years and we were very happy little campers. Now nothing is programmed and I have to start all over from scratch, of course you have to wait until the show comes on before you can program it to save it and it took quite a while to figure out how to program and our regular shows. Buffering with a whole other story when first set up. It literally took 3 hours to watch a 1 hour show. My husband jiggled around fiddled around and whatever it is he did and now it's not quite as bad. But I have to go through the whole lineup every week to see when our new season of shows is beginning. I'm quite frustrating. Now for the important part.. as I said earlier we were assured that there would be no increase financially! Well the lady lied!! The Bill arrive and it WAS INCREASED by around $80!! I was beyond shocked! We are both extremely close to 80 years old and cannot afford that kind of an increase! I was going along with the upgrade because I understand these things happen but why should their upgrade cost us probably a week's groceries! I think it was unfair that they snuck this in us the way they did. I know their profits are over the roof and they are very happy making all the money they're making. They could have had a little more consideration and class in handling the situation the way they did. I am truly baffled by this company. I've had them for 2 weeks. They never turned on my Internet and said I need to hire one of their techs to come out. Refused to troubleshoot via phone or chat. They gave me a bill for the entire month despite only "having the service" for 2 weeks and them never even turning on the service. I know as a fact this does not require a technician to come out (unless they are still cutting their own wires like I heard they used to). I said, "I understand billing may start automatically, but consumer billing requires that services actually be provided. Since the service was never functional, this charge should be credited," and the agent ended the chat. read more

I called Astound on July 22, 2025, to cancel my internet service. They refused to cancel immediately, claiming a "new policy" only allows cancellations at the end of a billing cycle -- meaning I'm being forced to pay through August 7, even though I'm no longer using the service. When I asked for a copy of this policy, they could not provide one and there was nothing available for me to review online or in writing. There is also no option to cancel online, only by phone, which I waited for 64min. to speak with someone. Shady tactic to charge customers for services they don't want or need. I have been an rcn / astound customer for 40 years. Down to only internet from them. Current charge is $92 a Month for 100 mps and modem. Saw on their website internet for $30, $40, and $60 for new customers only. They will not give this deal to old customers. You would get a lot more mps and free modem forever. After having a house fire and needing to discontinue my service temporarily until I'm back in my house I called them to have my service turned off. I had already paid for service for that month and they couldn't refund that, well fine, but then they went ahead and charged me for the next month as well even though they know I can't even use my service right now. This is how they treat their customers of 25 years. I'll find a new provider when I move back into my house. Update: A social media representative responded to my post asking me to email her to resolve this issue and I did. It has been almost 2 months and she hasn't responded to my email so don't look at the responses they leave here as trying to resolve issues, they are trying to make themselves look like a good company that cares about their customers without actually caring. I am in a rental home now and got T-Mobile wireless 5G home Internet. It works better than Astound/RCN ever did and it is only $50 per month instead of $120. They gave me a free 2 week trial and a free TV after being a customer for 2 months. read more

Earlier today I left a review of astound broadband/RCN. It was pretty long because I was trying to get a service and through the course of a week and a half two weeks I ended up having to talk to five people with no result and wasted timeI someone named Jackie from the company a service manager wrote back. She said that I am to contact them on a private message for assistance 1. She never left an email address or phone number for me to send a private message 2. And why should I have to contact her. I tried three separate times to get a hold of a manager and each representative told me that a manager was just going to tell me the same thing and that they could handle it and I would say no I want to talk to a manager and they would not do so. On the fourth try I asked for a manager and someone came on the phone and after she spoke about the product I said to her you're not really a manager are you and she says no I'm a lead representative If a customer of mine who's been with me for over 20 years dealt with something like this I would pick up the phone and call her and make it right Once again RCN has failed miserably!! read more

If I could rate it with zero stars, I would! Background: I used RCN for years due to its relatively lower pricing, but this year, I decided to cancel this sneaky and full of BS company. I understand prices increase over time. However, without any email or other proper communication, it increases the monthly rate by 25%! I believe most people in the 21st century use automatic payment (it's not a problem if you don't). But how many of you guys read the billing statement page by page??? Yup- you guessed right, RCN claimed "yeah, we notified you, in your billing statement." Of course when you look it up, it's just a small line in the last page of a statement no one reads. Second, they also claim you can cancel anytime. Don't get fooled. You still need to pay for another billing cycle before disconnection becomes effective. And the prorated refund is not a thing anymore. God knows how they notified their consumers this time! When I cancelled my services, the agent had no clue of this new policy and told me I should receive a prorated refund. Instead, I received a full price bill a month after requesting the disconnection. To sum up in one word about RCN: AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Terrible customer service. Charges for EVERYTHING. When you cancel service, they will not disconnect until the last day of your billing cycle. Called to cancel on 6/9/25 and they tried to say I have to pay until 6/29/25. Had to file a complaint with the PA Public Utility Commission. read more

Never had a problem in 10 years with Astound, THEN I opted for their "free" mobile service and the bottom dropped out. On my first bill, the "free" cost me an additional $70 for 1 line. Called last week to find out what happened and it keeps being kicked down the road...but they tell me I still owe the "free" $70 until it is resolved. I'm been a RCN customer for over 15 years. Since they switched to Astound, the service has dropped considerably. Today I noticed that my monthly internet bill jumped to nearly $100. Trying to get someone on the phone, I ran into issues with their automated system. It kept asking for home or business but would keep asking multiple times. Had RCN / Astound for the last 8 years at my residence. On the whole, it's been a good experience. I have very robust internal infrastructure (layer 3 Cisco switch, Unifi AP's on each floor, CAT6 everywhere, customer owned cable modem, terminated RJ45 in multiple rooms) and on the whole my service is quite good. I'd say for the money I'm paying I'm seeing about 2/3 of the speed I'm expecting, and at times service can be QUITE degraded. But I RARELY ever lose it at all, and for the most part I'm very satisfied - so long as we can keep negotiating reasonable pricing to me. My only real grip is the asymmetric one. Uploads are capped at 25Mb, and that's a bit annoying at times. But I also remember one-way cable modems, so I guess that's why I tolerate it :) read more

I had been a customer for over 3 years and the monthly bill for only internet service increased multiple times (from $75 to $120). Making matters worse, the WiFi signal was inconsistent, so we'd have to wait for videos to buffer for example - which was a major inconvenience. After a while it simply wasn't worth the $120/month charge so we switched to another provider. read more

I had to tell the rep to ask their supervisor for help because they were already convinced my account didn't exist. When I used to live in bethlehem on Linden street they had trucks parked next to or near my house. The installer I paid had left my network open intentionally.
