Telecommunication consumers, buyer-beware of Grande Communications. Last month, Grande customer service representatives, agreed to rate reductions to my account. Even within the confines of that transaction, they were fast and loose with the conditions of the adjustment. None-the-less, they agreed to reduce my monthly internet bill. When I opened my bill this month, the agreed upon adjustment was not for year as agreed, but for only one month. WORSE. This morning I called into Grande's customer service line and had the experience of Grande's Interactive Voice Response system access my bank account and take a payment without my permission. Bank heist by leaving a payment source on file. I did not ask to make a payment. Somehow though, the Interactive Voice Response system shunted me into those queues. Through three questions, Do I want to make a payment, then, Did I want to make a payment in the full amount, then a final confirmation, I responded on each instance with a NO. Grande's Interactive Voice Response system either doesn't take No, or has been programmed to understand any response as assent. Before I knew it, the IVR had announced "thank you for your payment" and hung-up on me. By previously making a payment over the phone, I did not agree to Grande programming my credit card into their Interactive Voice Response system in this manner, where No, No, No, to questions rendered in a queue I did not seek to be in, permitted Grande to access my credit union bank account. Joseph Marcosfeld with Grande. Ask for him. He is the epitome of customer service. My mother is elderly and doesn't feel comfortable dealing with telecom companies. Joseph was like a godsend for us. He was incredibly kind, patient and helpful. He even answered his cell on his day off and spent an hour working with us that day. Who does that?!! When I say he went above and beyond I really mean it. He helped her run new lines to her house and two rental properties on her plot. The renters were so happy with the service, the speed and the price. Way cheaper than TWC, which she had for 20 years before switching to Grande. Do NOT use Grande! Their customer service technology is still in the DARK AGES! I'm a long time Grande customer. Grande expects me to use TWO different User Id's. Sometimes I need VOLKING and other times it's FVOLKING. Both ID's have different passwords! One connects to my bill. The other logs me onto their internet TV portal. "sometimes" one ID works with services like CNN.GO and HBO.GO but more often than not, I get "There was a problem retrieving your customer details from your provider, please try again later." Plus, for some Grande things I'm REQUIRED to use Grande's email server, like Volking@Mygrande.net ... I don't want another email address! Have had grande for almost 3 years and never had a problem until this week. My internet has been going in and out for the past 4 days due to an "outage". Today it has been out all day and when I call grande has an automated response that the service will be restored in 2 hours. Over 13 hours later still no service. No work trucks have been in the apt complex all day. I wonder if it is a coincidence that SXSW festival is going on. Sounds like throttling to me. I'm very upset because I work from home and am not getting paid. I expect a discount from Grande communications. Btw Grande.... throttling is illegal and the laws should be enforced. I moved into a new place in Austin and called Grande Communications to set up phone, interweb and TV. The service people on the phone were helpful and knowledgeable. They scheduled an installer to come set up the apartment. They said the person would be at my place between 8am and 7 pm, and I would be called with a confirmation. After waiting the entire next day the installer showed up at almost 6pm to start his job. Over the next 4 HOURS, he wondered around, disappeared for an hour, did 1/2 the install and said he'd have to be back the next day to complete the work. The actual service has been fine so far however the installation was quite painful and yet to be completed. read more

We have only been a Grande customer for a few months and although we like the quality of their TV pictures, the reliability of their cable signal is poor. We lose their signal at least once a week. At times we can reconnect the signal by powering down the TiVo box and restarting it. At other times, like today, that just doesn't work, and neither does it help to call and be on ignore for 20-30 minutes as I did two times today because they disconnected me the first time. After nothing they suggested worked I scheduled a tech visit. We had no service from 6:30 AM until 3:39 PM when the signal mysteriously reconnected itself before the tech showed up... I am updating my review of Grande because they came out and upgraded my home to fiber. So far, it seems to be working much better. I still can't say for sure because I haven't had an opportunity to really stress the connection, but so far it seems to be reliable. They also switched my hookup inside the house to my other room, so now it's not in the baby's room anymore. Although I'm not sure it really matters at this point, because with the fiber connection, there's no longer a modem to have to be reset. My router actually just plugs directly into an Ethernet jack coming out of the wall. They didn't charge me for the installation. The downside to the fiber connection is now I can't use my in-ground lawn sprinkler system. They took over the electrical outlet on the outside of the house where it used to plug in, and they used a kind of connector which totally prevents me from plugging in the sprinkler system at the same time. They didn't consult me about this but I guess they showed it to my husband who was here at the time. *Heavy sigh* maybe I can find some kind of mini extension cord which will solve this problem. read more

Scammed me out of $30. I've been a Grande customer for about 4 years. The service was average to decent but had been declining in recent years while the price had steadily been increasing (you can't even find the base cost anywhere online, you can only see the first-year introductory rate). Back in 2016, I would have recommended them as an alternative to the larger ISPs, but now I couldn't recommend them. November 2020 I decided to try a different ISP, so I canceled my Grande service halfway through the month. They promised me over the phone that I would be prorated for the other half of the month. On my final statement, I then saw that they would credit my bank account roughly $30 in December. I never received that credit. I waited until February and called them asking about the credit. They swore that it sent through and told me the exact day they sent it in December. I checked my account and had 0 transactions on that day. I checked all transactions from November 2020 through February 2021 and did not see any credit from them, so I told them. They said it must be an issue with my bank (Bank of America). Ok, fine, BofA is big and I've never had any issues with them before, but nobody's perfect. I called BofA, waited an hour on hold, and finally talked to a person, explained the issue, the BofA rep checked my account, and said that Grande never sent any money. I call Grande back and explain that the bank confirmed I had never received any credit from them, they said they would submit a ticket to their financial department. I never heard back from them nor have I received a credit from them. I've checked multiple times all transactions from November 2020 through April 2021, and nothing. So, could BofA be in the wrong? Possibly, I've moved tens of thousands of dollars in and out of my BofA accounts without so much as a penny ever missing, so I don't think it's likely that BofA made a mistake or decided to randomly keep my $30 credit from Grande. Which brings us to Grande, did they ever even try to send the credit? I don't know, I'm not accusing them of withholding a $30 credit from me because I canceled the service and they figured they could keep that without much issue, but either way I haven't received what they owe me due to either malice or negligence on Grande's end. Both are bad in my opinion. I had considered returning to Grande in the future, but at this point, I will be pursuing alternatives. $30 is not worth the hassle of being on hold and fighting with customer service for 4-5 hours. I understand that mistakes happen, if Grande had fixed the mistake by now after I called them multiple times and waited 4 months, I would still recommend them. But it's obvious that they have no intention of ever reimbursing me. It's disappointing, what was once a good alternative to other internet service providers has fallen incredibly low in quality. read more

what a joke! our building finally got google fiber. took it immediately. now i've spent over 3 weeks trying to get grande to uninstall their own equipment. first appointment...scheduled from 8:00am to 9:00pm. really?! tech 'no showed'. second appointment...same thing...no showed. three days later, unannounced, no call, nuthin. tech is in the lobby saying 'i'm here...' unfortunately, i was 50 miles away. today they sent me a bill for $888 for the equipment. two more tries, same thing. finally ripped the box out of the wall, left it in the lobby with the box and remote and said 'come and get it'. by the way...you'll love google fiber. you get your own, exclusive fiber/channel. no more shared channel bs. read more

I can echo the sentiment of some others on here who have grown disappointed with Grande. I was particularly drawn to those reviews about scheduled appointments that never happened, had very slow response from dispatch, etc., and Grande's response that this is not typical. Well, as I sit here, it's not looking so atypical. My appointment window closed 1 hour and 40 minutes ago. I have called them three, maybe 4, times now. I did receive a call from dispatch almost 3 hours ago stating that the tech would be at my house in "approximately 10 minutes". Again, we're now approaching 3 hours since that call and no show. I have called back, received very kind customer service reps, apologies, etc., including a promise to get an update from dispatch within "a few minutes". That was almost 1.5 hours ago; still no update from dispatch. Like others, I sung the praise for Grande for years. I have been with them since they began service in my neighborhood and was thrilled to move my service to them from the then only other cable provider in town. Over all, the service with Grande has been way better than the other entrenched cable provider in every way, but this level of service is really poor. I believe Grande and anyone considering them should know how dramatically poor their service has become in relation to other providers. It is especially disheartening to me, as I was one of your very early subscribers in Austin, and lucky to be in one of the first areas serviced by fiber. Their customer support was fantastic. Their rates were very competitive. The couple of times I had to have someone out, they were there early in their service window. At the initial install, something like three or four trucks showed up! Over the years, as my bill became unacceptably high, I would call in and their account reps would work to keep it low. Grande, I used to be a huge advocate for you - recommending Grande to anyone who solicited input on service providers, including on multiple neighborhood list-serves I belong to, as I own properties in Ridgelea, North Campus, and Hyde Park. Unfortunately, none of the things I liked about Grande are true anymore. The last time I talked to account services, they barely did anything to improve the competitiveness of your service. In fact, they noticed I had older, now unsupported equipment, which I recently learned (via my own tests) only accommodates 10Mbps, and told me how they could graciously upgrade my internet tier to...I don't know what they claimed at the time...maybe 50Mbps?...on equipment, I now learn, that can only do 10. As I contemplated what direction to go to increase my internet speed - call and complain, or switch to Spectrum or U-Verse - I fortuitously received a call from your folks informing me that they were upgrading infrastructure and asking when I would be available. Ahh! (I thought) at least they're getting pro-active and I'll put of thoughts of switching for a while. They were scheduled for 8-12AM this morning, and were supposed to call in advance, so I stayed home to wait. At 12:05, I had seen no sign of them and received not call. Calling customer service, they were courteous, apologetic, and said they would "put in a request" with Dispatching to let me know what was up, and that I should hear back from Dispatching directly. No call. I called back. Oh, it could take as long as an hour for you to hear from them...or, if they looked in another place, it said as much as two hours. So, as much as two more hours - and that's just to hear back about WHEN they would ACTUALLY show up. It has been two hours now. No one has shown up. No one has called. I'm done. Grande, you have turned me from an advocate into someone who rates you the same as every other provider (very low). I never recommend you anymore. In fact, I'm more likely to tell people, if they can wait for Google, do it. At least they will provide much-needed competition and their current pricing tier blows Grande away for Internet and basic cable. Better yet, just get the free tier and subscribe to streaming services. I'm current doing a trial of DirecTV Now - in all likelihood, the second they add DVR capability, I will dump cable TV...no matter who the provider. I've heard your Customer Service people's scripted recitations about how competitive Grande is, but it's just not true. You jamb a bunch a stuff I don't need into a package that costs a fortune, and it does not lessen my dissatisfaction, it aggravates it. Promoting 200, 300, 1000 Gbps as a huge advantage is absurd. I work in I.T., I understand the actual requirements for streaming video, and those tiers are all absurdly unnecessary. My colleague actually switched to the FREE tier of Google Fiber and just streams everything - two simultaneous HD streams easily! I do the same in my home over my antiquated equipment. I moved into my apartment which didn't tell me when I signed my lease via electronically through email that Grande was the only cable provider this is the worse cable service in the world if I could have gave them a half a star I would have. Internet always run extremely slow the cable channels suck not all channels are in HD. Customer service hangs up on you and then when you call back they won't answer the phone. They tell you they will come on a certain day and doesn't come or even bother to call. I wish I would have known this is the absolutely worse cable provider in the world please stay away and on top of that they have the nerve to be expensive as soon as this 10 month lease is up I'm out of here!!! read more

Low intro rate. Will be upped as a "second year" rate. If you call customer service, get ready to wait. It will take multiple calls to find an employee that either cares about your issue and/or can solve your problem. If you express any emotion, expect some form of retribution. After I complained after multiple calls and hours on the phone with customer "service" my internet went from dropping a dozen times per day to the dozens of times per day. I will gladly pay more for service that is consistent. A smart ad states that the best internet service is the one you never see. This is not Grande. Grande has been hell and I haven't even had it for a week yet. First of all, they didn't even show up for their initial scheduled window. I just moved here so it wasn't easy for me to step away from a brand new job to even get them over, and no one showed up or called. I called grande but couldn't speak to the local office, only their general customer service. Apparently they claim they called and came by, but I the problem with that is that I was literally sitting outside on my porch for the entire window period. So we reschedule. Their scheduling windows are huge, I ended up having to miss another 5 hours of work. The technician came at the tail end of the window, and only then do I find out that he needs to install fiberoptic cables to the whole street to set it up. I thought we were just getting a simple cable box put in! No one mentioned how long this process was when we called to put the order in- very rude!! He had to drill the outside of the house and add a new outlet to the house, and like I said he was on a ladder adding new wires to the telephone poles. I said we definitely didn't order anything like that but he insisted that's just the way it is now. We better not see any additional charges for this! So finally he finishes - or so I thought. The man tells me that he cannot finish setting up my internet until the city of Austin comes to turn on these new cables, and he had to take off for a new job. He said he would stop by again in a few hours. Excuse me? So- I'm missing an entire day of work but he can just go and come back whenever he wants to? Again, definitely didn't sign up for this and I looked terrible showing up to work so late!! Surprise surprise, he never called to set up a time to come back. Now that I finally figured out how to get it all going on my own, the internet service itself just isn't very good. We have a smart tv and I basically can't watch anything at all because it reboots every minute. The lights on the modem are all blinking. Terrible service. Already thinking of cancelling. So disappointing. Moving is hard enough without added bullshit. read more

I've lived several places in Texas over the past decade, and due to coverage limitations I've had cable TV and internet service from: Grande Communications, AT&T Uverse, RoadRunner, and TimeWarner. TimeWarner and RoadRunner were unremarkable (no long-term problems after a few setup glitches were resolved -- RoadRunner had me polling a distant node instead of the one near me, so everything worked fine during the day when they could send a tech out, then the TV would pixilate and the internet would timeout at night when we wanted to use it and they must have come out about ten times before then sent a salty old ex-navy tech out who figured it out and fixed it. But they DID fix it.) Uverse is my favorite -- everything about it just works and works well, and they have about twice the convenience features of the others. But there is a snake in this woodpile: GRANDE COMMUNICATIONS. This is easily the worst company I've ever dealt with, and I intend to file a complaint against them with the FCC. It's probably a waste of time, but these people have REALLY hacked me off. I couldn't get Uverse when I moved to Austin, and so I decided to give the local guys a chance. What a terrible mistake. Signal quality is a nightmare with these guys, especially at night. They (or their installation contractors) were constantly screwing up my connection (installing splitters, etc. on my line) every time they came out to work on any of the neighbors lines, which was on a regular basis. My internet connection was constantly timing out or just not there, and cable was frequently out at night, especially on all the HD channels.. Their local rep was SO NICE, SO FRIENDLY. He was there to help me -- he gave me all these great discounts because he wanted to save me money. What he didn't tell me was that at various points in time after that these 'discounts' would disappear without notice and the price shoots up. DO NOT SET THESE CROOKS UP ON AUTO-PAY -- YOUR BILL CAN NEARLY DOUBLE OVERNIGHT. This is just one of their scams. They also talked me into getting their box with a DVR at an additional charge -- A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY WITH THESE GUYS!!! Programs seldom were recorded completely and you'd find out that the end of your movie or series episode you recorded that the last ten or fifteen minutes of it was truncated. And when the techs came out they wanted to change out your box so you lost everything you had recorded previously. They honestly have the worst Customer Service and Technical support people imaginable. I wonder where they get these people. For nearly a decade I did volunteer work at a hospital for the severely retarded, and on many occasions I could have sworn I my call was routed back to Partlow State School. It's like they're reading from a script and not even listening to you. I finally decided this last July to move somewhere I could get a better provider than these clowns, and called to cancel service -- for some reason a much more difficult proposition than signing up -- imagine that. I wanted to have service discontinued at the end of September (at the end of August I'd begun listing LOTS of stuff for sale on Craigslist and eBay so I would need my WiFi and I was moving the last day of September), but they shut my service off at 5:00 PM on AUGUST 31! After complaining again to deaf (and dumb) ears, I got so angry at them that I took all my boxes and remotes in and told them what I thought of them, their company, and the lousy service they provided, turned everything in, and asked to pay my bill. I was told I would have to wait to be sent my final bill. Today I received via forwarded mail the first communication I've gotten since the day I dropped those boxes off, A COLLECTION NOTICE -- ON OCTOBER 4 THEY TURNED ME OVER TO A COLLECTION COMPANY WHO SENT THE LETTER I GOT TODAY CHARGING ME AN ADDITIONAL $44 SAYING MY BILL WAS SEVERLY DELINQUENT! When I called to complain that I never received a final bil OR past due notice, I got the same kind of retarded, Catch-22 response I'm moving to get away from. There are ways to help and he chose not to use any of them. You almost lost a customer today. But I thought I would try one more time and got Suzanne. She was fantastic and extremely helpful. She saved you a customer if that means anything at all. One more call like the guy I got would have done it for me. My small business is a sad new inductee to Grande Communications' "one star review club." When we moved recently, I decided to go with Grande in lieu of an evil corporation (Time Warner/ AT&T). I am now paying for that. Long story short, the sales rep told me my bill would only increase $20/month from what I was paying at AT&T. I was saddened when I found out that it actually increased $174.74 per month. And I'm in a 36 month contract. Yes, that is a $6,290.64 misunderstanding. I guess it makes me feel a little better that someone from Grande called and offered to "go over my bill" with me. So all you other Grande "one star review club" members complaining about lousy internet service and unfriendly customer service reps--you got nothin' on me. Maybe I should run for president of the "one star club." I should at least be on the board. Really, I'm a fucking fool for believing what I heard. The moral of the story: Make sure you establish the total amount of your Grande bill before you sign anything. Or really, just stay with AT&T. I am so totally FED UP with Grande's poor customer service. I have been a Grande customer for 20 YEARS and would leave right this minute except my email address has been the same for 20 years also. About six weeks ago I called to alert Grande that my email had been "spoofed" and was being used to send out spam. They did not believe me and did nothing while, in the meantime, I was getting hundreds of kicked back messages every day. Then they locked me out of my account THREE TIMES! Yesterday I could not log in to pay my bill but--SURPRISE--they were miraculously efficient at taking my credit card information and immediately charging my account for my "service." I told the customer service rep (as she was taking my credit card information with ease) that I was still unable to access my account and she replied, "Well, there's no trouble accessing it here on this end." Helpful? Now today there is no cable service because it flooded in San Marcos and they have to "evacuate" people from the office??? Were people living there??? I appreciate Grande trying to offer better more affordable prices, I pay $40 a month. But the truth is I have had nothing but issues since I got them. Wifi consistently cuts in and out. I had Grande for years and I enjoy their internet and their technical support. The only thing that they really need to modify is the pricing for their phone service. Their Basic phone is expensive especially after tacking on Modem fees, Taxes, and FCC fees.... Would be nice to drop the price a wee bit. I feel paying a 35 dollars a month just for the use of a regular land line phone is a bit ridiculous. I wouldn't have it if my work didn't require me to have one. So yeah Grande drop the price about 10 dollars and you got yourself 5 stars from me! =) read more

Our bill has gone up a lot since we first subscribed with Grande, and in the past few months it has risen an average of about $10 per month. I sent an email to complain about this & to see if they could work something out, but after several days there was no response. I then spoke to a rep who said that basically there's nothing they can do to get me a better deal. I'm very disappointed in how much our billing has risen since we first started with Grande. I don't know if this is the trend among the telecommunications industry, but we will look into other companies to see if we can find someone that doesn't take such a big chunk from us each month. For the relatively small number of channels we watch (unfortunately, some of which are not available in the next lower tier), we're seriously questioning whether it's worth our while. read more

Constant outages for six months, about every other week. Always a "node" at some location away from my house. Service people are great and responsive but seems grande doesn't invest in its infrastructure as it should. We're in the Oak Park / Northwood area of San Antonio which is part of their older system that is probably neglected for their expansion into newer territory. I recently purchased a house that came with tenants. In the lease, the tenants had wifi provided. As such, the current landlord and I contacted Astound Broadband Powered by Grande to transfer the account. During the transfer, they never walked me through what equipment I was inheriting/taking responsibility for. A few months later, I decided to buy my own router and extender (to save money as renting them came with a monthly fee). Astound Broadband Powered by Grande informed me that I was missing an extender (I was meant to have 3 instead of 2). I told them that I never had that piece of equipment. I even went as far as to call the manufacturer of the extender and they confirmed that the last time it was connected to the internet was before I took ownership. This did not help my case and Astound Broadband Powered by Grande still charged me $120.00. I'm upset because I was able to provide solid proof that I never had the equipment and, while they went over so many things during my onboarding call, they admitted that verifying equipment is not something they do. read more

I have always liked Grande. But that has changed. A week ago, my TiVo account was suddenly closed out. After many phone calls and literally hours on hold, I finally learned that when they switched to a new billing system on Jan 1, anyone who made a payment on the old billing system in the last 2-3 weeks of December did not have their payment transfer over to the new system. So now, TiVo is cut off because they think I have not paid, when I have! Grande can see my payment on their old system, but for some reason they are unable to apply it to the new system. They said this is a problem for any customer who paid in last 2-3 weeks of the year. On top of this, they said there was a problem with my modem and a tech was supposed to come today from 3-5.....and they did not show. No phone call, nothing. Right now, I've been on hold for 41 mins thus far to find out what happened to the tech. So, now I'm one week without service. And it appears the only way I can get back online is if I double pay... Oh, the best part is, I have been offered $20 off my bill for my inconvenience! Wow. In summary...I would not recommend Grande, unless you don't ever need to call them for service/support. Update: After 1 hr and 50 minutes on the phone tonight, another tech is scheduled to come out tomorrow. We shall see if they show. The rep did give me a better monthly deal and credit for the days without service thus far, but I had to push for it. Update #2: Did not receive call by 11am the next day as promised and tech did not show. I'm told I'm on an escalated standby list...but the next time they can guarantee an appt is Sun morning. Hope this is resolved once and for all then. If they show. Update #3: It's Sunday...and Grande called while I was briefly away from my phone. Received a vm that said a tech was on the way, but since I didn't answer they were canceling!! And to call them back if I'm home. I called back immediately and have been on hold for 48 minutes waiting to talk to someone. Now my appointment time has come and gone, and another 4+ hours wasted, still no service, and will have to schedule again! read more

Close to worthless Online gaming my ping is always above 200 even when my pc is the only system using bandwith. Most days I cant stream youtube unless its in 480p. All this said my family also has the best package available? What a joke. Might as well have satelite trash internet read more

If you are looking for cheap cable and internet, do NOT go with Grande. Go with Spectrum or literally anyone else. My internet went out during the week of finals and it took three DAYS for them to restore it. This is one of several instances where I went without internet for more than 24 hours. If you are looking for the worst service, the worst price, the worst performance, guess what? you got it!!! Go Grande!! That is your best choice... They told me they will fix my problems. I have been without cable for 3 months and the best we could get is a 15 dollar discount of a 160 USD per month. So you have an idea of what great is Grande. So don't think about it, Grande is your choice if you don't want any cable and a HUGE price. It is exploding bill time at Grande. No matter what "rate" you are quoted, your bill will explode every couple of months. Sometimes it is a rate change other times it is a "surcharge" change. Grande not a company you can trust. read more
