The gas valve on our furnace went out, I called them at 2 in the afternoon, and they informed me it was a $200 fee to come out on Saturday (it was already 58 degrees in the house) so I agreed to the fee! They said they would be out in an hour or so. They arrived on time and were very professional as well as doing a great job installing it but here is where the repair takes a bad turn. I understand adding costs/service fees to parts they have to stock but they were beyond expensive. The part in question was a standard White and Rodgers gas valve model 36C03-300 that the average cost online was about $120 Ebay, $140/$190 Amazon, I even found a couple supply houses, one wanted $291 the other $433. I feel I was extremely overcharged by any standard to the tune of $858.65 for the valve and installation of maybe 30 minutes. By the time the dust settled I we were into them for over $1000 and that was including a 5% discount. A bit of caution here goes a long way! We have been consistently disappointed with their service. They are not forthcoming about what they plan to do, and are not forthcoming about when we will be charged for service or not. Our heat pump isn't working, during a very cold stretch of winter, so we called them to come out and fix it under our warranty. We had this installed less than 6 months ago. They said that if they came out on a weekend then we would be charged, but if they came out during the week it would fall under our warranty and we would not be charged. So we asked them to come out during the week. They came, only cleaned our filters (which they did NOT tell us we even had to do when they installed it), and they could have told us to do that over the phone. They still charged us, and the problem isn't even fixed. It's still cool air coming out of the heat pump. We did not know about the filters and would have kept them clean if they had told us. We had other issues with our installation as well. read more

JULY 31 UPDATE: Complaint has been filed with the Better Business Bureau. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ UPDATE IN RESPONSE TO OWNER'S REPLY: I was never told that any unit needed to be ordered. I was told the opposite when I asked to clarify which unit--"That American Standard unit is the only one we stock." Why did I have to request that they register with the village--which is different than pulling a permit (which I knew was my responsibility?) They should know the ordinances in their service area. After requesting that, I received a call telling me that it was going to cost an extra $350. Registration costs $225--why were they going to increase my cost by $350? I was never told that the cost would be waived and I never received a promised return call after they contacted the village. And I was told multiple times that their soonest availability was Saturday. Was I demanding--you're darn right I was. I'm going to be spending $6100 to get this work done and the person in the office could not answer any of my questions. If I appeared rude, it may have been that I was frustrated that the person on the phone put me on hold many times to ask someone clearly sitting very close to her, to answer my pointed questions. Bottom line: Assured Air took my money, delivered nothing, incurred no cost and will not refund my money. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Estimate and Deposit for A/C Replacement. Company pushed back when I suggested getting the required permit. Then told me I was going to have to pay to register them to do work in my town. They couldn't do the work for 6 days. I asked if a deposit was required (big mistake) and they took $300. If I had not mentioned it, no deposit would have been discussed. Subsequently found a contractor who could install A/C tomorrow. They would not return the deposit. Said it was for a "restocking fee" for an a/c which I was previously told was stocked by them. I did not sign a contract and will be disputing the charge on my credit card. Only reason I dealt with them in the past is that they bought the business book from my previous HVAC company, Ascot Systems. Person I talked to had to keep asking "the supervisor" what to say to me when I made a point to her. She knew she was lying to me about the "restocking fee." I could stop payment on the check I used to pay for the original service call but I am not going to do that. I actually value integrity. read more

Made appt online for furnace clean and check. Scheduled for 10/14 at 1pm. Got confirmation email a day or two ago. No tech showed up. I called at 2pm,was told "oh,we must not have gotten that notification",offered to schedule again. Bought a new condenser. Fair price. Were able to come out the day following my call. Only feedback I'd have is to communicate if they were to run late or what time to expect them for installation. Getting a call that they're there only because we discussed a specific day but not a time may not work out if someone's employer isn't flexible. I'd call them for service next year. read more

He has retrained his staff to provide the kind of service that folks expect from a family-owned business like Assured Air. REVIEW UPDATE: About 30 minutes after posting my orginal review, the owner himself called me to make things right. Ted, the owner, pulled a man off a job to make my original appointment time. He was very apologetic on what happened with the office staff and his call went a long way with me. Ted said he sent his "best guy" (Rick) who was very ice and efficient and had my air up and running in no time. I recommend Assured Air! I can't rate the service because the office is unable to keep an appointment. I had an appointment schedule for Wednesday 6/20 and they called me on Monday 6/18 and said they were backed up on emergencies and asked me if I could do Friday 6/22 at 11:30am instead. I took off work to be home for the appointment and I just called the office to confirm the time. They had no record of my appointment and made NO effort into correcting the situation. I used Assured Air at my old home and it is unfortunate to see that the service is not the same as it once was. I am forced to give my business (and my money) to another company who can actually keep appointments and not inconvenience their repeat customers. read more

Turned AC on for first time and found it was not cooling properly. Called for service on Tuesday but was told I would have to wait until Friday for response. Asked to talk to Ted ( owner) who diagnosed issue on phone based on my description. Offered to send someone at end of day (Tuesday) to service. Rick showed up at 5 as promised and immediately identified a leaking valve. He replaced the valve and recharged the system, was up and running shortly thereafter. Thanks to Ted for offering the end of day service call and for sending Rick who knew what the issue was. Only charged for valve and recharge, not the service call which was appreciated. I recommend everyone to go and find another company before wasting your time with Assured Air. Matt was late to arrive. Then didn't have a normally stocked part in the truck. Had to reschedule. Then the next appointment after waiting all day, he cancelled at the last moment just to reschedule again. He quoted a part cost one day but the next time all of a sudden the part is more expensive. Was constantly trying to take advantage and upsell everything. His tagline is "I don't make the prices". ...It was an experience that left a bad taste in your mouth. Then another company came and had the parts, charged a fraction of what Assured wanted to charge, and best of all, the mechanic was able to spot the true cause of the problem and fix it correctly. read more

We hired Assured to install a Space Pak here in Oak Park. Ted the owner said they would be in and out and we wouldn't even know they were here. But afterwards when all was completed, he said they don't repair holes or patches in drywall and left all the drywall and wall patching for me to take care of. They even damaged crown molding in the living room on accident and refused to have it fixed. He keeps on saying they are an honest company, but in my experience, it's the dishonest people and companies that that scream the loudest that they are "honest" People and companies that are honest let their actions speak for themselves. I would love to rate this company a 5 star. At the beginning of my dealing with them I would have. I had to have my air/heating unit replaced as it was more than 30 years old. My unit is not even 2 years old, and so far someone has had to come back out 4 times for problems. Four times in a year and a half for a brand new unit. I am waiting again today for someone to come this afternoon, despite being told he would come first thing this morning since I spent the weekend with this problem. I did not have this many problems with my 30 year old unit until the day it died, as I am having with this less than 2 year old unit. I am told it is fixed and 2 weeks later I have to call back again and take more time off work. Originally I was so happy with Assured that I recommended them to my good friend. Hello, our neighbor bragged to us how good this company was so she gave me a coupon since she had just had them install a new unit last july of 2019 or somewhere close! So the first time Justin came out and said all fixed you needed a new censor the bill wals $179.74 that was on 1/13/20! Then on 4/24/20 Rich the manager from Lyons come out and said we have a plugged T-Trap and the bill was $94.02! So today on 5/6/20 i had to call again and tell the office the were having the same problem! I informed her i was not going to pay a service charge she had me hold on and said you will have to pay $32.50 for the time spent! This is ridiculous, our unit is new it was installed by Sears in August of 2013! If they cannot fix the problem after today i am going to call the BBB on them and tell people whatever you do! Ted and his team did an outstanding job with the replacement of my 23 year old A/C system. I needed an entirely new Air Handler, Spacepak. After reviewing several bids, I chose Assured Air. I'm glad I did! Ted made unique recommendations for the thermostat, attic fan and positioning of ducts. The A/C in my 1921 Bungalow is much more efficient and evenly dispersed than it was before. Horrible experience with the owner and office personal. The owner decided it was more convenient for him to change my appt without confirming it with me. I had taken the afternoon off for a 1:30 service appt. it was more convenient for the owner to send the tech an hour earlier. Obviously I wasn't there. This man would would not apologize for the inconvenience, his explanation was me had left me a message that I did not get. The furnace did get serviced but 3 hours after the agreed time. Ted has no idea of what customer service is. In fact, he told me customer service is not his goal. On a side note, the service tech was great. I once again have to recommend this business! We chose to go with Assured Air for our HVAC replacement. We compared their quote with two other local companies with high ratings. Ted's quote was right on point with others, they won out based on their financing options, our previous experience, and price. We were willing to pay a few dollars more than the lower bid submitted by their competitor...overall it was money well spent. The install crew that came was amazing! They took their time with the little things, such as booties on their shoes, and drop cloths. I have experienced or heard of other companies who come in, make a mess, and leave a mess. Not with Assured! Their install time was fast and efficient without being careless. The quality of the install work was spot on. They sealed joints in the ductwork, routed and secured all piping in a clean manner, and worked with us on overall unit placement to ensure future maintenance would go easier. Extra time was taken to ensure that the freon gas in the system was properly topped off. No dump and run, hoping that the gas levels are correct. I have to finish off with the product they sell. I spent much time researching different brands and we chose American Standard. This outdoor AC condensing unit has to be one of the quietest fans that I have experienced. While this company was very good in the past. Lately they have been very rude and abrupt with their customer service. One week ago assured came out to find out why our heater was not working. They came out as scheduled and stated that out main board needed replaced. The technician said the part needed to be ordered which was fine and they would contact when it was in. On Saturday the 10th of October they called and asked if they could come out that day since they had the part to install it. When I said I would not be able to have them out on Saturday but could set it up for Tuesday they said that was fine. I called them in Monday the 12th to confirm they said let me call you back. When they called back they said that the part did not arrive. When I said okay, even though this did not make sense since they said they had it Saturday! I asked when it should be in she said a couple of days. I said okay let's set it up for Friday, since it will be cold she said we can't do that. When I called back to cancel everything and said you can at least say you don't want to service us so we may look for another agency. She said no worries and hung up!!
