Thompson Propane or otherwise known as Associated propane failed to fill tank on a few occasions as promised. Then charged for empty tank which was to relight hot water heater and furnace. I had a second back up smaller tank with gas over 3/4 full and appliances did not need to be relighted. They charged anyway Get your propane else where ....everyone seems very nice except they can't keep there promises on filling your tank and empty tank fee is pure BS! We used Associated propane for our residential propane tank here in #sonomacounty for many years. It was a smooth, good experience; they would come fill propane tank, charge card on file and all was a consistent positive customer experience until it wasn't. Associated propane sold-out to big corp. Thompson Gas, which was the beginning of the end for us and many of our neighbors. Around March 2024 Thompson Gas un-enrolled all credit card auto-pay accounts to force those customers to re-enroll and signature accept their new "policy" that included charging customers a 1.99% fee for those using a credit card for payment. In the State of California it's to charge customers any sort of processing fee for customers who use a credit card for payment. Of course, Thompson gas phrases the fee as a "convenience" fee to shift around State laws. However, what they are doing under the guise of "convenience fee" is still illegal, using certain words doesn't mitigate the harm they are doing to customers. A "convenience fee" Is a fee that merchants are allowed to charge if credit cards were not their primary method of payment and they are making an exception for their customer, a "convenience" allowing/accepting a credit card as a non-standard payment. Associated propane required credit cards as a primary payment method for years, when Thompson Gas took over they incorporated the same payment processing method. Credit card payments have been their primary method they are not making any new "convenience" for their customers, hence they are not entitled to receive "convenience fee" for credit card payments. Further, they don't itemize that fee on your invoice! They just add it to the total when charging your credit card and send you an invoice that omits the "convenience fee". Besides harming customers with the illegal fee, they continue their libelous behavior by failing to comply with transparency merchant laws Truly a wolf in sheep's clothing operation now that a big corporation has gotten a hold of the company. If you point out the above facts, their corp rep will eventually ghost you, Kimberly in the office will get lippy and snarky with you as she tries to defend her employers egregious new billing practice. What they are subjecting Sonoma County residences too is abhorrent, any company using verbiage as a work State laws to pocket additional financial gain is not a company that is for the community! read more

Julie the reception and dispatcher is rude, point blank. Simply not a nice person. A few things to know about this business: 1. If you are an automatic customer, your propane will be refilled as frequently as possible, at the highest rates possible. For example, if your tank is at 80% but the price of propane is at a 4 week high, then Julie will make sure to send a truck to fill you up to 100% at those highest rates. She loves to look out for customers! 2. If you are on will call, where you ask for service as needed, reception/dispatch will tell you they will try to get you on schedule asap, but they will always, without fail, schedule you the maximum time out on the schedule. For this company, that is 10 business days. They do this so that you are forced to do one of two things in many cases, if you are below 20% tank volume. Either you pay $165 to have an express delivery, or if you happen to run out while waiting for them to deliver on schedule, you will be charged approximately $150. Julie likes to make sure she gets her money out of you. If you ask about scheduling and if/when they have a truck in your area next, they will not fit you into the next possible available time slot, they will just tell you they will try, and put you on the schedule for 10 business days. Reception/dispatch likes to use condescending language, and a real "boomer" attitude when dealing with will call customers that do not submit to the price gouging/selective service they provide to their automated customers. This business clearly discriminates against customers that opt out of the automated service, and when you ask them about it, they choose to be rude rather than find solutions. Just changed services from BlueStar.. These guys were great! We had a power outage and our generator ran us down to below 10% on the tank.. Moe shifted his schedule around to come out with in 2 days to get us a new tank and propane just before we ran out. It also helps that they are about 15-20% less than BlueStar. My neighbors all swear by Associated Propane, so when I was ready to make the switch, I reached out to Associated. I reached out in late June, with our tank at 20%, and Denise told me she'd try to get me on the following week's Sebastopol run. I followed up midweek and was told we'd receive it at some point that week, but she wasn't sure when. When it didn't arrive by end of day Saturday, I reached out again and she apologized for forgetting who they were supposed to deliver to. (?!) She then said she would send them out the morning of the 15th. Okay, great. No one came. I reached out again - at this point we were down to 15% and I was concerned about having to wait until early August for the next Sebastopol run. She suggested I call the office because she was "rarely in the office" and didn't know why I didn't receive delivery. At this point I am baffled as to why we've gone through all this if she can't actually help me, but fine, I call the office. Sarah takes my information and says she'll talk to the dispatcher. She calls me back a few days later to let me know they won't be coming out to deliver. But, why? She isn't sure, she makes some comment about the fact that we're only at 15% and is clearly annoyed, but I want to know if they can't come out anytime soon, or if they're saying they can't service my address or what exactly "not coming" means. When I first reached out we were at 20% - am I somehow in trouble now that I've let it get too low while waiting for the delivery I was told multiple times would be coming? Should I be looking for another company here? She puts me through to the dispatcher's voicemail since apparently he is the only person at the company who can actually answer questions or get me on the books, and wonder of wonders, I never hear back. I dropped them after 3 years. I called to get a refill in December when I was at 30%. Then I called again when I was at 15% and the voice seemed "strained" to reply, "We are certainly not going to let you run out in this cold weather! We have notified dispatch." I called again mid-January to say, "Come and get your tank, I'm done with you guys" - after my tank finally ran dry. I was also upset with their billing system which required me to write checks and send them in the mail. They had an online presence where I could check up on my useage and billings, but for some reason they discontinued that. read more

I'm a fairly new customer and I must say Associated Propane does it right. Great service, clear communication and (dare I say it) on time billing. In addition my propane service is finally up to date with an earthquake valve and the driver helped me with a stubborn pilot light. I was a Decarli's customer and got hit with the crazy billing. After I got tired of begging for a bill, I switched propane companies. Associated has been honest from the start AND the bill on time. I'm glad I finally went with a company who cares. read more

I presented my complaint to the woman who works for Assoc. Propane (yes, I do know her name) but she gave me no satisfaction other than to say that maybe I have a leaky tank. But I'm one of those people who doesn't believe in coincidences, because this fellow who works there or maybe he owns the place; I don't know---came up to Sebastopol and looked at my gauge. It read 70. A few days later I got a bill for $146.64. I had not ordered propane, and my instructions are "NO AUTO. DELIVERY; I'll call when I need it." Nor had I invited the man up. He came of his own volition, saying, "You have such a cute little voice on the phone." WHAT?!! (I had left a message on their answering machine, regarding the gauge). Okay, so I'm on a budget and am very frugal with my propane usage, yet two mos. later the tank reads 49%. From supposedly 85% to 49% ?!! Oh really. Well, this hasn't been a cold winter, if you catch my drift. There's something rotten in Denmark. What are the odds that my propane tank sprung a sudden leak? My stove is electric, after all. I heat with propane, but I've kept my heater to a minimum; my hot water heater runs on propane, but I take quick showers. I wouldn't use these people anymore if it meant using portable electric heaters, instead. (Which is pricey, so I think I'll switch companies rather than do that). BAH !! My handyman, who is familiar with how stingy I am with propane, said, and I quote: "You got ripped off." read more

Such an impressive company!!! Not like the 'big" propane distributors....this company REALLY cares about it's customers...and see them as people. Desperate, because I neglected to fill our personal tank, we ran out in freezing cold November. I called ALL the "big" companies and the soonest delivery was 2 weeks. We had been HOME GAS customers for years and loved them, sadly Wayne retired. In calling around, I found SARA at Associated Propane. A true Angel among us! Not only did we get a delivery in 2 hours...but EDDY, the delivery man went out of his way, past his off duty time to make our delivery. Who does that!!!! Thrilled, I also found out that Associated Propane had purchased HOME GAS!!! Associated Propane's prices were much lower than the "big" guys...their service incredible, and we feel like we have really made new friends! This company has the kindest people working for them! From Sarah at the office to the delivery guys, everyone is very sensitive about the cost of fuel at times of fill ups. The always remember to close our gates and back up our long driveway like pros! Plus, they give a great discount to farm bureau members! Associated propane is the worst service I have ever had. We have owned our property for almost 20 years, which is primarily driven by propane. We originally got screwed by a tenant early on with another company and went to filling our own tanks for years. When we finally decided to start relying on a company again, we went with Pro Flame. They were amazing. They closed and we went with Associated Propane. Because we have dogs we require communications to coordinate a comfortable refill visit. For some reason they cannot seem to communicate with us and we repeatedly run out of propane at the most inopportune times, and when we are told they will call us back they cannot seem to make good on their promises. We have had to repeatedly make the effort to get communications going and they ask us at the last minute to accommodate them because they are at our gate. All we ask is that they communicate early in the morning so we can accommodate. But they have not been able to be consistent with service. We tried to contact them with a dry tank on a Friday night. They did not respond as promised and we had to run out and get a 5 gallon tank to carry us through. There was no response until we called again at 830 pm and the answering service finally patched us thru to Bryce who saved the account by promising delivery in the morning and suggesting we do a fence patch for access to the tank and avoiding dogs. In order to get service we now have to construct a new fence approach for them to fill our tank. Bryce was awesome though and we will give Associated Propane another chance because of him. read more

Can't thank Associated Propane and Sara B enough for coming to my rescue in early February! First time I had ever run out of propane - totally my fault! Took less than a few hours from the time I called until I was in the shower with hot water! Gotta love that service!! Eddy, who was new to the company, refilled the propane tank swiftly, re-lite all of my pilot lights and did so with a huge smile on his face!!
