My daughter is a junior in high school and this is the 3rd year I've experienced renting a flat bed and truck. This was my worst experience. The truck was extremely dirty inside and out and the right tail light was out on the flat bed. No customer service. "You crossed the toll without a FastTrak so you pay for it or $25.00 gets added on to your credit card." Just a learning experience to NEVER rent from this company and location ever again. Other companies were pleased the rental was for school and offered discounts and are definitely much cleaner. $600.00 is a lot of money to rent a truck and flat bed especially when you have to wash your clothes after getting out of their filthy truck. Their equipment is well maintained and reliable and the yard and office employees treated me like a responsible adult. (I'm 22 but I look like I'm still on my learners permit lol.) I am a woman and am accustomed to being "little lady'd" when I go to auto shops, tool shops, tackle shops, etc etc. Everyone spoke to me like the smart, competent human I am ,and everyone was so incredibly nice. When the young man out back showed me how to use the chipper, he didn't assume that I am clueless AND he explained everything really clearly. This is a fine establishment with far better care than a big box store. Their staff was informative, gave great instructions on how to operate a floor grinder as a newbie, and provided extra equipment parts (to ensure I didn't run short). For the latter they reimbursed me for parts not used. I also appreciate their fairness and customer service when I goofed up the equipment return time. On Thanksgiving day, I wanna give thanks to Cal West Rentals of Petaluma. I had a large project, coming up and needed lots of rental equipment, including tractors. I was trying to get much done in a short time with my large project in Sonoma, excavating deep into a hillside to build a rather substantial barn. This barn has a wine cellar amongst many other wonderful features. The fact is though, we needed to excavate 18 feet deep into this Hillside. After contacting other rental companies, I wound up at Cal West because they were so on it with details they said I should come to the yard and select the tractor and the buckets that come with it to better choose the equipment properly. Donnie help me out at first although all the team players within this facility really know there stuff. The excavation equipment was perfect! I was astonished that the equipment was actually dropped off in advance of my request, making it ready to go when I was. At one point, we were in a tight spot with the excavator, and one of the tracks came off of its roller. I put a call in to Cal West and they had a technician on site the next morning without delay. This guy knew this tractor extremely well and was able to put the track back on without any help from us. Solo! Certainly impressed in every single way with these guys. DO NOT RENT FROM CAL-WEST! This place will gladly take your money. When I brought back a compactor they called the next day and said it had a missing pin that holds the plate in place. The pin was there. My friend had a similar problem and was charged again on his credit card. Took weeks to fix. I just gave up and let the extra $28.95 stay charged on my card because I do not have the time. read more

I requested a 10 foot outdoor scaffolding. When I came to the store they told me they were out, but had a 12' scaffolding that should work fir me. They loaded up the scaffolding in my truck and explained how to set it up. I'm able to replace my second story windows. Cal rentals has saved me time, and a lot of money! read more

POOR SERVICE ETHIC, DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT. Carpet cleaner was not spraying a functional amount of water so when I returned it I had to drain a few gallons of clean water out of reservoir - proof it was not working. Plus I showed pictures of the lines of water on the rug showing it was not wetting the carpet much. They not only did not offer to exchange it ( sent me home with same one saying it WAS working) but when I returned referencing photographs they were resisting refund! (I would have apologized and GAVE A COMPLIMENTARY machine since I told them I paid $90 for a worker and the job is not done). The question is: Why does anyone rent from these people? Renter beware. They have a stingy self-serving attitude. I spoke with several staff and they were focused on their needs not mine. read more

Got a rototiller that worked for a few minutes before the throttle spring broke so my friend took it back. Was told original rate was 59.00 ok and no extra charge for the new rototiller that was way bigger. Turns out my cc was charged 3 different times but after a refund still came out to 106.00 4 stars for the convenience and the guy was nice. But minus a star for the BS on my cc. To which he only credited me 10.00. so what was suppose to be 59.00 turns out its 96.00.. not cool. read more

We used Encore Events Rentals for our wedding in September 2011. They were super easy to work with and very mindful of budgets. All of their products looked great and we were so happy with everything. Bridget and Toni were super easy and fun to work with. As a bride, I found the number of items needed for rentals a little overwhelming but they did a great job in letting me know what I didn't need or could use as an alternate. Also, they did a super fantastic job for our lighting. We had an open dance floor with no lights, they built a string of lights and held up by wine barrels. It looked super amazing, a friend said it looked like a scene in the movie Hope Floats :) I would highly recommend Encore Events Rentals for a Sonoma or Napa wedding! read more

With last week's heat wave, I was looking to install some air conditioning units to one of my events. Literally the day before the event, I was scrambling to secure power for the ac units. I called many equipment rental companies and very few were willing to help me. Sandeep Kumar was fantastic! He was so courteous on the phone, able to find just what I needed and secure the generators for the very next day. The customer service was better than I have ever received. It did not stop there- the delivery contact was equally as helpful. He arrived onsite on time, was knowledgeable and took the time to find the best location to drop the 2-generators AND showed me how to use them. It was so hot on the install and he took the time to ensure I was set up correctly and confident in using the equipment. Thank you to the entire Cal West team for being swift, responsive, helpful and for saving the event (which was a fundraiser so even more important that we got the help and equipment we needed on such short notice). I can not say Thank you enough for all that Encore Events & Cal West Rentals have done for me! They are so easy to work with & they know what you need! I have used Cal West for corporate functions for the past few years. Every year they supply the tents & tables & chairs for my annual Contractor's day event. They have come out in the past to make sure then tents I want are perfect & fit where I need them. This past year we were worried about rain & before I event had a chance to worry they had called me & had a solution to the problem if it did rain. They even offered to come back out to my location & re-measure should we have needed it. Their staff that puts the tents up is AMAZING! They set up a 100x50' tent with sidewalls, a 20x10 tent with sidewalls & a 10x20 tent without sidewalls in 3 hours! It went down in half the time & because they have done it for so many years now they knew exactly what to do! It was a great relief for me to not have to worry about my tenting at all! Last year I used Encore Event's for my wedding! They were equally as amazing! My husband & went in with an idea and they made it happen. They worked with my caterer to coordinate what I needed & when to deliver the rentals. They even had amazing suggestions for table tops & decorations! When we needed to make changes or additions they made them quickly & easily. They also were able to get me heaters just days before my wedding. Every time I thought I wouldn't be able to get what I wanted they made it possible. I don't know what I would have done without them! I wouldn't go anywhere else for ANY type of rental! Two words (a name, really) that equals convincing a nervous, overwhelmed bride to slow-down-and-breathe-because-I-totally-got-your-back: SARA SUGRUE. I was lucky enough to get her as my consultant with Encore Events, and by the time I sat down with her, I thought I was going to go out of my mind. I'd never planned a wedding before (or any other large event), especially not my own with all these people expecting something fabulous on a shoe-string budget. I'm not exaggerating when I say shoe-string, especially for all the cool things I wanted to be able to do. Well, the rentals are a huge part of the wedding (felt like a third of the budget), and she really put me at ease finding ways to make things work for me, and sharing some of what she did at her own wedding that I might want to do or spin off of. AND she divulged other ninja-like event-planning secrets to help with my tight budget while creating pop and not fizz. She wasn't afraid to make suggestions all the way through, but was always gentle and open to change (no matter how many times I called her to change things around, which was, oh, like TEN). She did at one point say, "Really? You done? You sure this time?!" And I loved her for it. Can't say enough. I don't know, honestly, if I could have pulled off the wedding of the century without her invaluable input -- and she was always so perky and cute (albeit prego!). 20 foot lift: a few weeks ago our church needed a lift to change/ clean some very high lights inside the building. We needed 18 feet of lift and something very stable to stand on to do the work and change the lights. (Upgraded to LED). They had just got the new 20 foot lift in and said they could deliver it. Chris, the delivery guy (former Army- extra points) was nice enough to call me at home and say he'd wait until I got there to show me how to use it. He was very helpful. We had to fight over who was going to operate the lift since it was like a circus ride (we should have sold rides). Great product- easy to use and fit inside the building. The service was awesome. They helped me load it and unload it into my truck. The job only took me an hour and cost less than $50. That's important because my daughter's wedding was in Petaluma, but I was trying to plan it from my home in Oregon! They assisted with figuring out how many glasses, dishes, etc. I would need for my guest count of 150 people. They delivered and picked up everything and it was there on time, ready to go for our set up and decorating time. They have a variety of styles and colors to choose from and when I decided at the last minute that I needed a coffee maker for the wedding breakfast, they were able to provide it. Cal West totally came through for me. After being told by Budget Truck Rental in San Rafael that the truck I reserved was not available the day before my rental, I called Cal West. It was the last weekend of the month and everything locally was booked. I needed a truck with a lift gate and they are few and far between. These guys were great! They totally came through for us. And since we were renting it on a Saturday, we were able to keep it basically for 2 days. Price of miles offsets the price of the rental so it was really very reasonable. And way less hassle than dealing with Budget. Also, truck was great with a strong sturdy lift gate. Way better than anything I would've gotten from, well, you know who. read more
