Rented a Lawn Roller on August 10, 2018, returned next day Rented a Tamper Plate on Saturday August 11,, 2018 and returned early Monday morning The service was great! The guys helped to load the rentals and unload them. It was quick and easy and the info was clean and clear. They pretty much have anything you need to remodel a yard, pull an engine, move heavy materials from point A to B, wood chippers, fork lifts, trailers, etc. PROS: - very nice staff - quick and easy staff to work with - open Monday-Saturday CONS: - Closed on Sunday so if you rent on Saturday you have to wait till Monday to do return. read more

All Star is my go-to place for renting tools and other items as well as getting propane refills. Their selection of items is really good, never had a problem with anything I rented, and the staff is always super helpful and very knowledgeable about everything they rent if you ever have questions. Let's face it, most of the time when we rate/review a business it is based on how we are treated/serviced by the personnel. So depending on the person you happen to encounter and the mood that person is in, will largely determine how you perceive the business, if you will go back, and if you will recommend it to a friend. It seems to me that many business owners don't understand how much this can mean to the bottom line. If I were to only deal with the manager Brian at All Star Rents I would have awarded them 5 stars. We have rented flatbed trucks, power lifts, stair climbing dollies and many other items from several of their locations. A hidden gem. Anyone who needs to refill their propane tank should go here! They charge by the gallon on not by the tank. This translates into significant savings vs. the tank replacement option. Additionally, it is apparently not uncommon to buy a not completely filled tank. I had 2 tanks refilled for $38. Compare that with at least $50 from Home Deport. Every year i rent a weed wacker twice a year. Usually people are very nice an the desk. Over the weekend was very different. The guy who was at the front desk it was totally a d***ck, so i say okay usually i rented the equipment for the whole day, but because that person ruin my day i decided to rent it for 4 hours. Rented a scissor lift for a day that I ended up switching to a month over the phone. Everything went smoothly until the return. I took it back at the month only to find out their month is 28 says. So, an extra days rent was charged to my dismay. I received an email after the rental asking about my experience with All Star. In my answer I complained about their interpretation on what a month is. I must say that the contract did describe the 28 days as the month. My fault for not reading the small print. The owner, Steve, actually read my response and called me. He said that he saw the lift had been returned on the 30th day and sympathized with my argument and refunded the extra days charge. I had some questions before renting the auger and they emailed back very quickly and thoroughly. They even loaded it in and out of our car. Pick up and drop off was easy. I am a long-time Novato resident and have used All Star Rents several times - mostly because they are the only game in town now. I have had bad experiences with equipment breaking and other issues in the past and my most recent experience is no different. I reserved a pick-up truck on-line and they quoted me $59.95 for the truck plus mileage and fees including a $19.95 "EPP" fee per day. When I called to ask about this fee, I was told it was insurance and if I had my own (which I do) all I needed to do was bring in a copy of my insurance ID card. The story changed a few times when I arrived, first telling me "most insurances don't cover trucks" and if I could prove mine did they would take the fee off, then later the fee was actually not insurance at all but an Equipment Protection Plan for "damages" - what the difference is I don't know, but in the end they would not waive the fee. So instead of $60 per day to rent the truck it was actually $80. It got worse; when you rent a vehicle, most places require you to return it full of gas or they charge you - in this case $7.50 per gallon. I noticed as I drove the truck out of the lot that the gas was not full - the needle just below full, so I called them right away and let them know. I was told to just return it with the same amount of gas. It turns out that was actually more than 3-gallons low! Was this some kind of trick in case I didn't notice? The biggest issue however, was with the condition of the truck when I received it. They had not cleaned it - even with the Corona Virus going on and I had specifically asked in advance what precaution they were taking. They assured me the vehicles are cleaned between each rental but I found an empty Coke bottle rolling around under the seat, the side window and mirrors so dirty that I could not see out (the windows were rolled down when I picked it up, so I didn't notice right away) and the steering wheel was so dirty that I needed about eight disinfecting wipes before I could get it clean. So if your concerned about the Corona Virus, I would definitely rent a truck somewhere else. The only positive was when I returned the truck and complained, they waived the 39-cent mileage fee which amounted to about $16. Review Update: After I posted my review, the Bay Area Manager for All Star Rents reached out to me to get more information on my situation and to apologize that it happened. I was quite surprised and it means a lot to me that he took the time to do that. It sounds like he sincerely wants to make sure that the problems do not happen again. If my review was based solely on the customer service after-the-fact, I would give 5-stars. read more

Unbelievably poor treatment of a valued customer! Rented jackhammer which came with (extra charge) 2 bits, literally 30 seconds into first pounding the bit broke in half. Upon return the guy at counter charged me $32.42!, instead of being apoligetic that my rental was with less equipment than I paid for (I was forced to use one bit all day). Mechanic was nice, said call Monday, Brian will take care of you, yeah sure! Brian said "you should have taken out insurance, pay up". You broke bit! "Take your business elsewhere". I rented a power washer over the weekend and hired a guy to refinish my deck. The machine wouldn't start and the manager (Brian) did not return my calls. When I returned the machine on Monday morning the employee insisted that they could not refund my credit card until I talked to the manager, Brian. I called Brian and he informed me that I had in fact used the power washer as evidenced by the lack of gasoline in the machine! I told him, no, four people tried to get it started, and it was never used. I reminded him that I called him three times on Sunday for help and never got a call back. He then informed me that people lie to him all the time about equipment not working to get out of paying. I asked him if he would please see for himself - come to my house for a cup of coffee and a muffin - he could then inspect the work that wasn't done. He laughed and said "no" and repeated his accusation that I was lying to him. Basically he was just rude about it, he didn't even try to be nice. I work with several contractors in Novato and the general consensus on Brian and his business is the same - not someone you want to do business with. read more
