The course does an excellent job of making you aware of all aspects of what to expect when carrying concealed. While he covers the basic firearm safety principles that experienced gun owners should already know, he also dives into important topics that many people may not normally consider, such as legal concerns, mental health, situational awareness, de escalation, and the responsibilities that come with carrying a firearm. And most important the meaning of imminent danger. Arvin is very professional while also keeping the class engaging with his sense of humor. I particularly enjoyed the discussions about applicable laws, as well as the real world stories and videos he shared to reinforce important concepts and lessons. He does a great job of keeping everyone involved and interested throughout the course. One thing that stood out to me was how he reviewed every missed exam question with the class to ensure everyone understood the material. I also appreciated that he consistently explained the "why" behind the concepts he was teaching rather than simply saying, "This is the law" or "This is the way it is." That approach helped create a much deeper understanding of the subject matter. At the shooting range, I felt safe knowing that Arvin and the other instructors were closely supervising participants and consistently enforcing safe firearm handling practices. Their attention to safety and professionalism was evident throughout the qualification process. For the price and level of instruction provided, this is the class you need to attend. The course was really informative and my instructor was very engaging. It didn't feel like I was in a classroom setting, more like a really interesting conversation. When it came time to shoot my instructor was a bit more assertive, which is welcoming because you're dealing with firearms. I left feeling a lot more knowledgeable and confident for when I get my FSC. Overall I'd recommend this to anyone interested in learning how to safely operate a handgun.

Daniel was a great instructor who made the class interesting and easy to follow. He gave excellent instruction and we felt safe when we went to the live shooting portion. He gave me a few tips and techniques that definitely helped as I continued to familiarize myself with my new pistols. When it was time to take my CCW course, I returned to Daniel and things went great as well. The class is twice the length, but he was still able to keep it entertaining and engaging. The only thing I'd change is when it comes to the mental health portion. He makes it known that he doesn't like the fact that he has to teach that portion because he's not a mental health expert. He's not a lawyer, but has no issue teaching the legal portions. He's not a health expert but brings someone in to discuss dressing wounds, tourniquets, etc. So it would be nice to have him embrace the importance of the mental health portion of the class. Outside of that, the class is great! If you're looking for a basic pistol course or getting your CCW, I highly recommend Daniel and First Step Shooting.
