After two visits, I would NOT recommend going here if you have complex jaw issues. My issue is that my discs are displaced and locked, not just that my muscles are sore bc of clenching and griding. Went I first saw Dr. Hoffman, he recommended botox in my masseters and temples. He also recommended a repositioning split. The bill that I was given at that appointment included both the botox and the fitting for the splint which was done at the follow up appointment two weeks later. This was well over $1k. At my follow up appointment, the fitting for the splint took only about 30 seconds which I found concerning. Then i got the price for the splint which was $4k. I did not feel comfortable paying this after a 30 second measurement, so I decided to get a second opinion before moving forward. He also told me that he has only treated this in 5% or less of his patients. Overall, I am very unhappy with my experience here. I felt pressured into spending over $1000 on something that was totally unnecessary. I wish he would have been upfront and honest about his ability to treat my issue and recommended that I go somewhere that is more specialized in TMJ problems.

Before the appointment, Seida repeatedly assured me the office would submit a pre-estimate to insurance and only charge me my patient responsibility amount. After multiple calls with my insurance company, it was discovered Brighter Dental had been faxing the paperwork to the wrong number. The issue was finally corrected during a conference call with insurance and the office. Despite the pre-estimate being approved before my appointment, I was told by Seida and Luca that I had to pay the full amount upfront or they would not proceed. Seida claimed no memory of the aforementioned conference call, and I had no choice but to pay or remain untreated and in pain. At my follow-up appointment, insurance had already paid the claim electronically, but the office delayed reimbursing the overpayment and gave conflicting timelines for a refund. They also refused to refund the original credit card and insisted on mailing a check instead. After repeated vague promises and no reimbursement, I was forced to dispute the charge with my credit card company. Due to their refusal to honor the insurance allowed amounts, I overpaid by several hundred dollars. I later received a threatening letter accusing me of fraud because of the charge dispute, even though the office had still not refunded the overpayment at the time of the dispute. This was a disturbing experience.

As a first time patience, I asked - when I scheduled my appointment - if I need to send over my x-rays. They said no. I went to my appointment and they said that they needed to do x-rays. At that time, they requested the name of my old dental office to call them during my cleaning, however, they decided to "do them the next time". The Dental Assistant decided to go ahead and start "cleaning" my teeth. She pulled down the light (which was a flashlight attached to a metal pole) and got out her cleaning tools. The drill kept burning up so she had to take a break. After nailing my gum for the fifth time, I got up and left. Other notes: They put all these "nice" decorations in the front to make it seem high-end (don't be fooled). The back room looks like a make-shift barbershop. I've never seen a dirter office before. Recently, I called to make an appointment to have a veneer glued back on and for a routine cleaning. The first thing she did was ask me if I had been in before. When I said yes, for years, she immediately asked if had insurance; She simply could have looked at my records and asked me if anything has changed since my last appointment. She then proceeded to try to schedule a complete exam with x-rays before doing anything else. I told her the priority was obviously my missing veneer since there's a gaping hole in the front of my mouth. She said that it couldn't be done without an exam first as they had no idea what it would entail. I told her that it's a simple procedure and I've had it done many times before. She insisted that I had to pay for an exam first. Anyway, the way she hassled me was uncalled for and a bit confusing considering my straightforward request. To be clear, Sam is a great dentist, but life's too short to deal with nasty people.

I've been going to Shoreline Dental and Mollie Rojas for over 2 years now, and everything was fine…read moreup until today. I had a standard cleaning and x-ray check up, and afterwards, Mrs. Rojas checked my x-rays and mentioned that there appears to be potential cavities based on the x-rays. As a preventative measure, she recommended Silver Diamine Fluoride. I never heard of this, and I asked her if there were any side effects. She said it was safe and it's often applied to children (she also added that it was safe in that she applies it to her own son). I took Mrs. Rojas word and she made the first of two applications. I came home and noticed on the bottom of my lip a black mark. After googling Silver Fluoride side effects, one is that it can turn your teeth black and can also blacken the skin. I called up Mrs. Rojas, and asked her why she didn't mention this side effect, especially when I asked her about potential side effects. She said she didn't remember that I asked the question, and that the side effect of blackening teeth/skin is very rare. I was astonished that she said she didn't recall me asking, and even more astonished that she knew of the side effect. The Silver Fluoride requires two applications. I told her that I do not want to be charged and I'm not taking the second application. She said that the side effect is no reason for her not charging me, and that the benefits of preventive cavity treatment outweigh the potential side effects of blackened teeth/skin. This answer from Mrs. Rojas is alarming. Her judgment as a health care professional is off and her ethics are questionable . I can not trust Mrs. Rojas after this experience, and I'm hoping this side effect is not permanent.

But on my last three visits I have noticed a change. None of the original hygienists are there anymore. The two that I have had in the last few visits were not friendly, and on my most recent visit two weeks ago the hygienist was very abrupt and I told her to be gentler when she was doing the flossing but she just brushed it off. Every single time in the last 20 years that I have been in for my six month cleaning, Dr. Flak has come in to do an exam. This last time he didn't and he was there because I saw him in the next exam room. When I asked the hygienist if Dr. Flak was going to come in and do an exam she said "no, he'll do that next time in September". It looks like I'm going to have to find another dentist. I can't say enough good things about this doctor or his staff. He's the only dentist I would trust now. In my first visit, he told me that I would need a crown on my back tooth. I thought he was trying to con me because I'd been to a couple of different dentists for other issues in the past couple years and none had mentioned that before. I got three other opinions of very trusted doctors. All other opinions told me the tooth was fine. One opinion said he would recommend just replacing the filling in the tooth since it was old. I had more x-rays done - everything - everything looked fine. Well, that dentist went in to replace the filling and was very surprised after he took the filling out and realized I did indeed need a crown. He hadn't prepared for a crown so he just did a super deep filling. A few months later I went back to Chicago Smiles to get the crown done and they did a fantastic job. I'd never had one before but had heard stories of sensitivity issues or other issues post-crown. I had none of those. I felt as though he really took his time with me and very much appreciated it.
