One time they rescheduled one minute before my appointment. I understand things happen but the rescheduling was a trend item and common occurrence. My last appointment was for 8:00 am when they first opened. The staff trickled in between 8- 8:20. The xray equipment didn't work and the office was generally dirty. Stained carpet and dusty shelves. The dental staff itself is good. The place really needs to be managed better.

They performed services on the same day, that are not covered by dental insurance if done on the…read moresame day. I would have declined if I was aware. I ended up paying a large bill for treatment that would be covered if they did the treatment on separate days. The office was very difficult and unprofessional to deal with and gave me the run around. They just rack up as many things as they can to pad the bill. I still am not sure they even did the costly procedure. My insurer said it is impractical that both billed procedures are done the same day. Which is why they don't cover it if done the same.

While we could not fix the problem, it was determined that I likely had an infection. A prescription for an antibiotic and lots of ibuprofen got me over the hump, allowing me to enjoy the holidays with family. Well done!

I had a lot of questions about what I was seeing in the X-rays and the answers weren't satisfactory; he was pushy and against my better judgement I let him drill the one (I had never previously had a cavity). This caused a lot of anxiety and hadn't been to the back to the dentist since until today. As for the 5-6 others, it has been 8yrs, I finally just went back. I have only 1 small cavity now that just started to form. Get a copy of your X rays and get a second opinion. There are online services that do that now. Finished my first time patient paperwork and was in the back by 11:30. X-Rays were done and the Dr went over what he saw and answering my dumb questions. I received a filling and was out of the office by 12pm. My tooth and cheeks felt weird when I left of course because of the numbing but it was back to normal by that night.

But I went to Gallant Fox because I had glowing recommendations from two people I trust. I was very pleased with my treatment. Everyone was friendly and professional. My hygienist was excellent. She did a great job cleaning and inspecting my teeth. She also gave me feedback on my dental health without a lecture or making me feel like a scum bag. Dr Chan examined my xrays and my teeth. He explained the cavities to me and showed me on my xrays what he was looking at.

To start, EVERY TIME I went in, they recommend getting a night guard with long description why (EVERY TIME, even though I said no EACH TIME....same to my husband too. Dentists have never told either of us we had a problem before here). It got to the point where I would l walk in and say, "I don't want a night guard", before they would start talking. They recommended a filling on my 12-year-old daughter's Baby Tooth cavity (which was not in critical shape), the tooth fell out 2 weeks later (thank goodness I went with my gut). My friend who has NEVER had a cavity her whole life, had to get a filling at THIS office. They recommended my husband get a filling the next visit, (spoiler alert, our new dentist, didn't see a problem with that tooth.) Final straw, they recommended I get a crown on a tooth that was not hurting, and I could not see what they were talking about on the Xray, which would cost me over $500. Done! Found a new dentist. My new dentist DID NOT recommend a crown, they replaced the filling and I still have my $500. (FYI, new dentist does not recommend a night guard to either of us).

He was very thorough, communicated well, and was very conservative with treatment. Because he chose to monitor to wait to see how things cleared up with minimal intervention, I was able to avoid some bigger interventions, which I really appreciated. He, as well as all the staff, were always friendly. Appointments were always punctual and I was never left waiting late. He fixed my bite and also made me a daytime mouth guard per my request. Overall a great experience and I will definitely be back in the future if needed (but hopefully it will not be needed)!!!

Dr. Gartner is the best dentist I've ever seen; and the receptionists, dental assistants, and the other hygienist, Rose, were always terrific. One day I had a cleaning scheduled for 8:00 AM and Christina was the hygienist. Before I was in the chair she asks why I'm seeing her today. I said to get a cleaning. Then she presses me why I didn't schedule an appointment with Rose. I have no idea where she's coming from or asking me how I ended up with her. This was the day and time that was scheduled, what more can I say. When scheduling a cleaning, I've never been asked or given a second thought about who the hygienist would be. I thought it would be whoever is working the day of the appointment. It really felt like she was pissed off and she made the atmosphere weird and uncomfortable. During the cleaning she started to gag me and I raised my hand to signal that I needed a break and she angrily asked me if I have a gag reflex. I said yes (I mean who doesn't??), and then she smacks me across my shoulder and says "why didn't you tell me before we began". This experience turned me off to Chesapeake Periodontics. I've never been treated with such unprofessionalism and disrespect and will not return.
