Sushi

For those of you too lazy to read the full review here is the short of it: I did not like this place. There is nothing special or appealing about it. For those of you in for a story, keep reading. I showed up with 4 friends on a Friday night last week. We arrived around 8PM so the place wasn't too busy. We asked for a table for five and were seated at a table for 4 and then a chair was added to the end of the table; it was quite a tight fit. The table was unfortunately located right at the entrance to the restaurant so the five us started to feel rather chilled from the start of the meal. After ordering drinks and appetizers, we asked the waitress if we could please switch tables to the other side of the partition (there were two empty ones), as we were too cold to sit here. Her response? No, unfortunately not, as those two empty those tables had been reserved. Her tone suggested that THOSE VERY SPECIFIC TABLES were reserved...which was sort of off-putting. Anyways, the appetizers arrived; the fried calamari- which had so much breading that if it weren't for the crescent shape, you wouldn't have known it for such, followed by the gyza which I found to be extremely flavorless, and a side salad whose dressing was the only thing worth mentioning. After the appetizers, we ordered our meals. Four of us went with some sort of sushi concoction and my partner opted for the Korean BBQ for one. Upon ordering the Korean BBQ dish the waitress almost grew impatient; she questioned my partners choice and made some comment about how this is a self-make, messy dish. It was honestly, almost like she didn't want him to order it- as if it would be too much effort for the kitchen or her to deal with... This sort of attitude really really removed me from ever wanting to return to this place again. Of course, as I was there for the company rather than the food, I stuck it out. Once the sushi arrived, the rolls were HUGE; we are talking monster sized, two or three times the size a roll should be. The sushi rolls were too round, too bulky- impossible to actually put the whole thing in your mouth in one go. The rolls were designed to cater to the societal mindset- super sized! They were so large that it was truly difficult to distinguish the taste of what I was actually eating. My mouth was so stuffed, from just one roll, that there was no distinct flavor to any of the rolls I tried. It was really disappointing. Of course, throughout the meal, the two tables we were told were "reserved" and thus we couldn't sit at them, remained empty. We were there for at least an hour to an hour in a half and those tables, in the warmth of the restaurant, went unused. So there you have it; between the less-than-mediocre appetizers, the too large of sushi rolls, the disgruntled waitstaff, and the frigid atmosphere of the restaurant, I have had my fill of this place for a life time...

Amazing!!! I hadn't had sushi in years! Fresh, hi-quality ingredients. I wish I lived closer, I could have lunch there everyday. Wait staff was great. Chef has a great sense of humor. Great ambiance. Can't wait to go back.

I have eaten here probably 20 times. Best sushi in Burlington and nicest staff. It will always be a first choice if they are open!

Our server was really kind and helpful, giving some great recommendations for drinks. We ordered the cheese plate and I got a local cider, and Nate got "Vermont's most popular beer" according to our server. The cheese plate was a generous portion of three different cheeses, along with plenty of bread, some fruit preserves, and some honey on the plate. I would have preferred the honey in its own container vs. just on the plate, but it was easy enough to avoid. The cheeses were all delicious, and the bread was perfectly toasted. I really enjoyed my cider, which was a bit sweet. The menu sounds really great here, and I'm sure we'll be back the next time we're in town.

We had Mara for our server and you could tell she truly loves everything about the food there. For cocktails we ordered Mint and Honey, and Homa. The Mint and Honey had gin, lemon juice, honey, and labne. I never thought milk and lemon juice would mix, but it worked surprisingly well. The cocktails were definitely original but not something I would order seconds of. For mezze, we ordered half the menu. The lamb sausage crackers are kind of like ground lamb between two thin pitas that are then toasted. The local credited came with cucumber, radishes, and cherry tomatos. The muhammara was the star of the show, the punchy red people puree with curry, divine. The baba ganoush was also excellent but not much eggplant taste if you like that. The kale salad was lightly dressed with a creamy dressing, with crispy and very crunchy quinoa that ser it apart. The sugar snap peas were perfectly cooked. Seared halloumi was a crowd pleaser and must be ordered. The potato latkes were the surprising dark horse, crunch flavorful, but the jalapeño lahbne was amazing with it. The octopus had great flavors added and was very tender. There was a slightly fishy taste to it though. The lamejun is like pizza, on which the burrata was amazing. They brought a candle - lit baklava for dessert, a very sweet ending to our dinner. Love this food!

Rating: 4.3 Came to…read moretry this place for early dinner as this place had excellent reviews and we wanted to plan a dinner at church street market as we wanted to check the area as well. It's an upscale East Mediterranean restaurant focused on small plates and drink. Place was busy so we made a reservation but we ended getting there early and wasn't too busy so we were able to get tables as there were no option to reserve a table and only bar at the time. Parkings are available for street parkings only. We parked further out and walked over. Menu was unique as they mainly focus on small plates and drinks. They offer different kind of Mediterranean dips/bread and small plates. We got few things to try such as tahini hummus, home made pita, leb lebi, braised lamb simit bun, sweet harrisa chicken and greek style octopus with bread. First served was tahini hummus, pita bread and leb lebi. Home made pita bread was fresh, soft and chewy, hummus was creamy which paired very well. Lab lebi was crunchy spiced chick pea which was almost like a snack. I'm sure it pairs well with drinks but i don't drink so was a snack on its own. Next up was braised lamb simit bun. Single bun came with some braised lamb and pickled, mayo sauce and toasted bun. Flavorful lamb and nicely toasted bun. Greek style octopus with bread was interesting. It reminded me of ceviche with octopus but with olive oil. The harrisa chicken wing was good but not unique particularly. Overall food was good but definitely noticed portions were really small. The best thing was actually the home made pita. Service was good. Server was attentive. Overall it's a good restaurant but maybe for special occasions. Price is pretty high compared to the portion. Definitely get the home made pita bread and hummus but not sure if that alone will justify coming back.
