Ordered a Pad Thai, egg rolls and Chinese donuts. Got home and saw the Pad Thai was completely white. The noodles were dry, it was very clear they were not tossed in any sauce. The chicken was breaded and white as if it were boiled (it wasn't but it looked like this) the donuts everywhere else I've gotten them are fully coated in sugar, these are not. Went to bring the Pad Thai back and the workers were very nice I have no issue with the staff. But do not tell me that this is a special version of Pad Thai and gaslight me into believing the noodles absorbed all the sauce on my three minute drive home. I tried the noodles, they were bare. Overall I've noticed this place is inconsistent to the point it's not worth the drive, long or short. read more

Came here for takeout for dinner. The dishes were again hit or miss. The moo shu pork was a bit salty but good. The orange chicken was too tough. The sweet and sour chicken, chicken and broccoli, egg rolls, crab Rangoon, and pork fried rice were all fine. The hot and sour soup wasn't that good. I moved to VT from Arlington, VA Oct 2021 and have since struggled to find the kind of Chinese food I'm accustomed to enjoying. Besides one other place, Chef Leu's House hit the spot! I picked this placed based on an article from SevenDays and because Mandarin and Single Pebble weren't open for lunch. However, when arriving we saw the sign on the front door saying they are still only doing Take Out. As we started to walk away, Ronnie came out and invited us in to dine inside. Ronnie was super friendly and more than accommodating. He explained how to order online and to indicate we were dining in. I ordered the Szechuan beef which was shredded and spicy, which is what I am used to back in VA. He also shared some of his personal candies and snacks from Japan. She finished every plate and doesn't normally eat much. We ordered sichuan beef and kung pao chicken, which has a generous helping of peanuts, protein, and vegetables -- both were great. The rice is also next level: Perfectly cooked and slightly shiny. Egg drop soup was warm and hearty on a cold night. From the Japanese menu, the caterpillar roll was also well-made and slightly sweet to balance out the savory Chinese dishes. We went there for dinner on a Wednesday evening. There were no other cars in the lot and no other customers inside, which should have been a clue. The staff seemed totally unprepared for us. We ordered a simple meal of an entre to split and two spring rolls. The entre came, consisting of a small bowl of almost cold white rice, a plate of beans with a few sorry looking pieces of shrimp in an indeterminate brown sauce. When we asked where the spring rolls were, they had forgotten to cook them. We were about 2/3 through our "meal" when the waiter unceremoniously dropped the check on our table and informed us we could pay at the counter on the way out. I was referred to Chef Leus House by a coworker as I wanted to try a new place for Chinese food as others had left me disappointed. They exceeded my expectations. I ordered the general Tso chicken with white rice and the fried chicken fingers. It was ready within fifteen minutes, and was so flavorful. The staff was so friendly, and everything I needed was included with my order. The portions were generous and we even had extra fortune cookies in our bag. I had been traveling all day so wanted something pretty healthy with lots of vegetables so ordered the chicken with vegetables requesting less chicken and more vegetables. I received a lot of both, and it was very good; the chicken was velveted and moist and tender and they included a wide and plentiful variety of vegetables: broccoli, carrots, snow peas, mushrooms, water chestnuts & bamboo shoots. This is a plain healthy dish and I used some of my dumpling sauce and soy sauce to jazz it up a bit, but it was delicious and exactly what I wanted. We have been going to this place since they opened many years ago, and have really enjoyed it l, but when they went to a take-out only format we haven't been able to go there since we live too far away to make the round trip. Last night I was in the area so we thought that we would pick up some take out from them on my way home. I don't know if the place has changed ownership or management, but it was genuinely THE WORST Chinese food we have ever had!! It was inedible, and nothing like we have gotten there for so many years. We were both hungry so we ate what we could, but that ended up being a mistake, since we both got upset stomachs that kept us up all night. We're sad that we will never be able to go back to our favorite place, but felt the need to warn others who might go there expecting "the old Chef Leu's." We went there for dinner and Ron, the manager, could not have been nicer. Great food and rerasonable prices. The sesame chicken was excellent, as was the General Tso's chicken. I discovered the restaurant recently and found the food to be, by far, better than any of the other Chinese restaurants we have ordered from. The boneless spare ribs are great. Not drowning in oily grease and fat. The crab rangoon meets my wife's standard of Rangoon and that says a lot as she is particular about this. Highly recommend to anyone that is in need of a change from the standard cuisine. Ron, that person that takes your order and payment, is friendly, personable, and has been a pleasure to chat with while I wait for my food. Chef Leu's is great! It has become our go-to take out restaurant. We usually order a couple Chinese dishes and tack on some sushi rolls too. BEWARE horrible horrible service if you have any problems with your food. I've been been here many times. But this time I ordered a chow mein to go and it came as a soupy grey pile of mush. I called back to see if I can order something else and to mention that the chowmein wasn't what I thought it was. The reception lady(was the one with the mole on her chin) extremely rude thinking I wanted a refund. I didn't want/ask for refund! Ever! I just wanted to order more food because I was hungry. She was extremely rude. I went in to pick it up and she immediately was very defensive. Asking my why I order if I didn't want it. I just wanted to order something else. I then managed to order orange beef and got charged full price for it. She also wouldn't throw the chowmein away for me and told me to throw it in own my trash. I've been eating here for about two years and it's always very good. The sushi is always excellent. The atmosphere is clean, contemporary, and relaxing. The service is always great! I usually order the same items and they're always consistent, delicious, and fresh. My favorite from the sushi menu is the Sake Bomb Roll. The combination of salmon, hot sauce, and jalapeno is refreshing and tasty! The Sakura and Nagoya Rolls are quite good too. The Dynamite Roll is good and has an artistic presentation. In fact, all the sushi plates could be out of a food magazine--they're as nice to look at as they are delicious! The basic Spicy Salmon roll is very good too. Chef Leu... I dont Think there's been anyone this upset with life since my grandparents during the Great Depression. As an Uber Eats driver I have to say, I never understood how hard it was for someone to match names up to a phone screen. Especially when they're all lined up on the counter. Normally I wouldn't mind waiting, however when being a driver consists of being timed, it's kind of part of my job.... It almost felt like he was trying to weird his "power" by making me wait 10 extra minutes, while there was absolutely not one soul in the place, and i had already found my bag on the counter for him. If it's that hard, hire someone else to be up front with you, as I can't imagine what happens when there's two people in there, let alone people ordering in and to go. Pad Thai is a complicated dish that I love but many places come up short in their preparation of it. Chef Leu's House has always delighted me with their Pad Thai. And their sushi is the best in the area. Unlike Koto, Chef Leu's House's sushi has ALWAYS been fresh, an absolute must for sushi. I'm a regular patron to the area's Chinese/Japanese/Vietnamese/Thai restaurants and Chef Leu's House is never a disappointment. Great atmosphere for a dining in experience too, however, if wanting to dine in, I suggest giving them a call because the dinning area is not always open at this time (07/22). I'm not sure if Chef Leu's has changed ownership but we have always been so happy with the owner who greeted us and with the customer service from the wait staff. We have dined in twice within the last month and a half and had a terrible experience both times. We received rude customer service from the (same and only) waitress and our meal came out one item at a time; therefore, we didn't even get to eat together. One of the entrees was ice cold. It took over 1.5 hours and we didn't even get served our entire meal. Save yourself the aggregation and get take out. Hopefully it won't be cold! read more

My girl and I both got chicken pad thai and my son got chicken lo mein. I think the only reason I'm giving it two stars was because I was hungry so I ate it. Now I'm not expecting 5 star thai food in VT but at least something reasonable would've been nice. Not here. The lo mein was worse in my opinion. Definitely the worst lo mein I've ever had. The best part of the experience was the fortune cookie. My fortune was "you have a secret admirer". Hopefully she'll take me on date to get some good thai restaurant. Not gonna be this one. I can't believe chef leus is only a 3 star as I write this review! This is one of the best Chinese restaurants I've ever been to. They don't use GMOs in their food so you can trust the source. A local family owns and operates this little joint. Take out is awesome and usually comes within the half hour. I love their crab rangoons and pork fried rice. This place is probably a little better than 3 stars, but not 4. The restaurant was clean and inviting. The staff were friendly and attentive. The service was timely. The quantity of food for the price was good. The quality of the food was just average. For appetizers we had scallion pancakes that were tasty and crisp on the outside, but gummy in the middle. The teriyaki beef skewers were juicy and not overly sweet or salty. Probably the best dish we had. For main courses we had Singapore noodles that were flavorful, but a little 'one note'. We also had mu shoo pork that was just OK. The pancakes were slightly stale, so they fell apart as soon as you filled them. The mu shoo only had a little black fungus and no lily buds. It was mostly cabbage and regular white mushrooms. Neither dish had the smoky wok hei that they should have. I wouldn't say I won't go back, but I won't hurry back. read more

Whirling wontons, Batman, Vermont actually has a good Chinese restaurant! The menu is "traditional" Chinese-American food, so it leans to the egg rolls and kung pao and ma po tofu and whatnot, brown sauces on everything, but it's SO GOOD. I had an egg roll - it was crisp, but not greasy at all, with the most deliciously textured wrapper, and finely shredded, extremely tasty cabbages etc inside. So good. They'll also make you food that's actually spicy, which is rare in Vermont. I also had one of the Szecheuan-style tofu dishes - I forget which one exactly - and it was utterly delightful. Actual chili peppers danced before my eyes. The tofu had a firm, intricate texture without being spongy or chewy. The vegetables were cooked to peak color and crunch perfection. And, ye though the sauce was brown, it wasn't sugary, clingy, or saturated with MSG. That was a damn tasty meal, my friends. The service was fantastic, friendly and polite and very accomodating. A friend I was with has a weird food allergy, and the waitress made absolutely sure she was safe. They also finish off the meal with cubed pineapple, in addition to the usual fortune cookies - so deicious. I may never wash this hand that held the chopsticks again, I'm that enamoured. The egg rolls were frozen, the dumplings were fake, the lo mein was slimy, maybe the pork friend rice was the best thing they had going for them but even that didn't even have any flavor to it. It's a disgrace someone compared this to Single Pebble. I had to try it once since I drive by every day, but now I know it's not worth a second try. Suite yourself! read more
