The lo mein to start off I do the Pepsi challenge with any place in town this place is lo mein is the best hands down in Burlington. I'll be a customer for life I truly enjoy your quality of cooking you're serving size your attention to customers all top notch thank you guys read more

Hungry for American Chinese? This is a great spot for fast, economical Chinese food. You don't come here for ambiance and doting service. You come here for yummy, comfort food to eat in front of the TV. There is no website ordering so Gen Z has to TALK to a person to order and then you just go inside to pick it up 20 minutes later. Perfect! read more

Get past the looks of the place, the food and service is great. My to go place for great food and value.

This place is the best dining experience I have had in Burlington EVER. If you are down, and out.. You will love the fine meals these wonderful people offer here. The inside of the China Express makes me feel like I took a time express back to the beautiful nostalgic past. Please consider eating here if you want some good grub. Also fair prices. read more

I ordered shrimp with lobster sauce. I am used to it coming in a brown sauce with little bits of pork along with the shrimp. This was a clear liquid, just shrimp and vegetables, and was the consistency of soup, not a sauce. Very disappointing. I would not come back here read more

An old chinese resto which clearly needs upgrading to attract more customers. Food tastes okay, usually this type of resto in asia tastes the best(in asia, the older the place looks the more delicious the food is but this is different) service is okay, not much joy and entertaining to customers. Clean restrooms. Has one high chair. Accepts credit and debit. Parking is ample outside. Signage says there is a drive thru but there is NONE. read more

We were travelling from Canada and were craving a quick Chinese restaurant. The food was delicious and fresh! Big servings, quick and friendly service. The restaurant was clean. We got our food in less than 15min. 5/5 overall! read more

I rate this place 5/5 for cheap Vermont Take-Out Chinese Food. This is not a gourmet restaurant. You go to places like these when you need something quick, affordable, and tasty. That's what China Express will give you. I ordered the Sesame Chicken which was delicious. Right amount of crispy, chicken was juicy, not too chewy. The broccoli was good. Food was ready within 15 minutes of placing the order. I will definitely be going back next time I'm craving chinese food. read more

From the outside, appears far lass than optimal - same with inside. Customer service is lacking, but they are great with call-in orders for pickup. The food was delicious and cheaper than other options, packaged well, and stayed hot and fresh long after pick up. Definitely recommend for on the go. read more

This is my new go to when it comes to takeout! The food is affordable and the portions are huge! The sesame chicken was just perfect. Couldn't recommend more read more

My son and I are in the process of visiting every Chinese restaurant in Chittenden County, VT. We always order the same thing. I order a chicken and broccoli combo with pork fried rice and an egg roll. My son orders a sesame chicken combo with pork fried rice and beef teriyaki sticks. Price: $19.50 or $.27/oz is on the lower end of the average price we would find in Chittenden County. Portion: 4.7 lbs between the two meals is on the higher side of the average range. Pros: - High traffic convenient location just off Shelburne Rd. - Tasty sesame chicken Cons: - They don't offer beef or chicken teriyaki sticks as a side - They wouldn't allow us to swap an egg-roll appetizer for chicken teriyaki sticks. - Smaller than average egg rolls - They're still using older style microwavable takeout containers which many Chinese takeouts have transitioned away from. - They didn't provide napkins, utensils, soy sauce packets, duck sauce packets, or fortune cookies. - The windows haven't been washed in years - Overall restaurant appearance seems unclean and a bit run down Impression: Convenient location off Shelburne Rd in Burlington offering average portion at a fair price size lacking flavor with aging/poor curb appeal, earning China Express a 3.0 star review. read more

Their food has always been so good especially their dumplings. I am always carving for them!

Thanks to other reviews, we pretty much knew what to expect and therefore, there was no surprise: A former KFC? Check. Customer service that reminds me of House of Horror? Check. Generous portions with good value? Check. Plastic forks and knives? Check. Respectably and reliably good food that was cooked to order? Check. Smell of grease that made our clothes stink for days? Check. We ordered egg soup, house fried rice, and beef and mixed vegetables with white rice and an egg roll, all pictured, for dine in. The lady at the front didn't even look at us when we entered, and the first thing she said was "Ready?" Although, the food was delicious, and I'd definitely go back. read more

Depending who is cooking, the dishes vary in taste. This must of been the case for my Kung Po Chicken. Second time came closer to tasting very good. Partly because they added the chili paste and the balance of ingredients worked better. The egg roll is my gross guilty pleasure. Their's was okay - I would get it again because sometimes you just want that deep fried something covered in duck sauce. read more

Ive gone here for only the past few months and it's very good. I love the sweet & sour chicken to the point where I eat the ENTIRE box, I also like their rice and beef teriyaki. The only problem I really have here is that it seems a little sketchy, I totally understand it's hard to keep a place nice looking. read more

Can I do a half star? Ambiance/Customer Service: Fuhgettaboudit. Zero, nil, but that's okay. Others have already written in detail about this. I don't care. I've traveled many places, eaten in places with rats scurrying under tables and roaches brazenly sauntering on the walls; this place is quaint. Okay, not really, but I care more about what I'm eating. I've eaten some very good food in Taiwan, grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area where I've eaten both home cooked and restaurant Chinese and Chinese-American food, so I have some sense of what's decent. Food: My orders have been limited as I generally order meatless. The vegetarian steamed dumplings. Well all right, I think they're tasty. They LOOK and taste handmade and many places that LOOK like this place: I'm pretty sure they're serving frozen dumplings. A nice combination of ginger, carrots, and cabbage. I was surprised the first time I ordered them. I've only ordered two other dishes here: Chow Fun Vegetables and Vegetarian Delight, both of which I tried to order as spicy as they could possibly happen. Didn't happen, but then most places can't make it as spicy as I can eat it. I don't remember anything really about the Vegetarian Delight, which suggests it was it wasn't a Delight, but decent. I liked the Chow Fun. I think "Vegetables" in most restaurants in the U.S. has a different meaning than what it means to me. This had celery, bean sprouts, some cabbage I think. I'm pretty sure the sauce was a combo of rice wine, oil, and some other things. Again, like the dumplings, it was far tastier than I was expecting. Can't speak to the other dishes. Amazing? No, but definitely punching above their weight class. Intriguing enough that I went back a second time for the dumplings to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Now I'll go back to try some of their other vegetarian options. If you'll knock a place for whether or not the person you're talking to is personable, this isn't the place for you. Consider this: they're in there all day, it's hot in there, it's greasy, customers may have ridiculous expectations AND they're not there to be your friends. Is the food good (I thought so), reasonably priced (definitely), clean (well, enough for me anyway)? So, enough said. read more

The customer service is consistently bad. Additionally, the food just tastes like grease, and their prices are higher than Fuda (downtown). Probably won't be back read more

So the food is good, but where the food excels, the service lacks: hence the two (2) stars. Why? Issue #1: Egg Drop/Wonton? Me: May we get an Egg Drop/Wonton Soup? Host: No. Me: No? Why not? I always get it like this everywhere else. Host: $2.00 extra or you can buy two and mix them. Me: well I'll buy 1 egg drop and 1 wonton but can you mix it for me. Host: no Me: why not? Host: in case you don't like it. Issue #2: Missing Pen Problem Host: Sign (credit receipt) Me: do you have a pen Host: sign Me: pen. I can't unless have a pen? Host: (huff)there! (pointing to hidden pens blocked by flyer) Fix the attitude ladies! You're not the only Chinese takeout in Vermont. read more

Not only they where an hour late but they brought the wrong order. I've been eating pepper steak for years and this was bad. I don't normal write reviews but I had to. To the owner: don't be to worry about loosing a costumer, worry about the quality of your food and I'm sure you these reviews wouldn't be negative. Thank you. read more

Don't judge this book by it's cover. China Express is delicious and quick. I love getting the combos, you definitely get your moneys worth. Honestly I think they could be charging more for the amount of food they give in each order but I am also incredibly grateful for the reasonable prices. They do such a great job and are super efficient. We eat here at least twice a month because it's so good. I can't recommend it enough! read more

Easily best Chinese in Burlington. I'm from NYC and this is the only place that comes close. It's my takeout go-to.

Don't judge this place by its exterior (or interior really). It's a solid Chinese food place and they are super quick with orders (10 minutes for pickup ). We've ordered all kinds of dishes and it's all good - General Tso is on the lighter side - just don't let it get soggy. Hunan pork is a favorite of mine. The best part is their pork fried rice. Plenty of pork and bean sprouts and delicious ! read more

Just a word of advice whenever the sweet lady with the two sons is working here, highly recommend . if the man answers the phone, I highly advise you to go elsewhere . First of all, I walked in and said hello and was immediately TOLD -"YOU HAVE TO WAIT." Ok..... hi how YOU doin sir....(?) not only does he have a bad attitude and act as if you're inconveniencing him by patronizing his business, I got charged for sweet-and-sour sauce for a menu item that has always come with her in the past-he seemed upset that I drove back to let them know I didn't get the sauce and said you're gonna have to wait a minute. We don't have it right now and then said it's gonna be a dollar anyway.. I probably left. Very frustrating experience. ESPECIALLY because he knew I turned around and drove back to get an item which has always been included in my order in the past. + my small, hot and sour soup container was half empty.. wanted to take a picture and post but I'm not willing to allow access to my camera and microphone-but trust me on this guys. I WILL say, boneless spare ribs are killer.. pps- was feeling like maybe I was a little harsh, but after reading other peoples reviews, I feel completely legitimate and almost overly generous in my rating. read more

It everything the name says. It's Chinese food that's made quick, and at a fair price.

I'm going to keep this real. If you're not Asian or have never eaten at a legit Chinese restaurant, you'll probably order the "Americanized" Chinese food and be disappointed. Here's 50 cents from a Canto. Singapore Mei Fun, Eggplant with chicken, Moo Goo Gai Pan. Memorize that lineup. The key to Chinese takeout is knowing whats legit Chinese food and what is soy sauce doused Americanized Chinese food. Its like the difference between eating at a legit Mexican restaurant and taco bell. I'm satisfied because the food is quick and ready to go. I dial up the number on my cell, place my order, drive to the site, and pick it up. That's efficiency for this hungry student. read more

There is something about this food that always make my stomach hurt. After trying 3 times (because it is right near my work) I have given up. Plus it makes the whole block smell like bad chinese food about once a week (when they're cleaning the grease traps maybe?) Ug... I have a stomach ache right now even thinking about it. read more

Let's be clear - this is classic *American* Chinese. It's cheap, its sauces are gloppy, it's meats are often breaded and fried, and it's delicious. They make solid general tso's chicken and their egg rolls are pretty good, haven't experimented too much outside of there. It's pretty busy with takeout traffic at lunch time, so surrounding workers appear to be fans. If you just want a fix of cheap American Chinese food, they do it right. read more

No chicken in my kun pao everything was bland ass fuck everything greasy and discolored

ok, I'll be blunt, because I was a lot more detailed in my review of the better China Express on North St in Burlington. Don't go here. It simply does not measure up to the other one, and is well worth the detour to get to the better one. Just don't. The other one is actually worth the trip into the Old North End. read more

Had to throw out the crab rangoon after grease squirted from the opposite end I bit. The rest of the food - vegetable lo mein and beef and broccoli, were the worst china american food I've ever eaten, and that's saying something! There is another China express in the new north end and it's perfectly ok. Occasionally we'll order take out there and we find it more than acceptable. read more

Great Take-out in So. Burlington! Just relocated to VT last year - after trying 3 disappointing Chinese restaurants in the area was about to give up (used to live on Long Island, so plenty of good choices) when we decided to give China Express a shot (since we drive by the spot just about every day!). Very happy to have found a good place for take-out: I asked for the Szechuan pork extra spicy, and to my amazement, it was perfectly hot!. Mrs. had the Moo Goo Gai Pan and loved it! Egg rolls were fine, also the fried rice. Food was ready for pick-up quickly, was hot and very fresh! Definitely our new "Go-to" restaurant for Chinese food here in South Burlington! read more

It's true.. don't judge this place by the outside. I get the same thing every time (appetizer combo platter with Crab Rangoon), and I love it! You get so much food, so even though it's not the best Chinese cuisine in the world, it's a quick yummy substitute when you don't want to cook. The delivery is reasonable time, and the service is very kind and efficient. My go-to Chinese place! read more

When we ordered from here for delivery we were quoted a time of 45 minutes. Ok, we can deal with a longer wait for food considering we didn't have to go out. Well, we didn't get our food for 90 minutes which was twice the time we were told. We had a considerably large order. The delivery guy shows up and tries to make off with all of our cash (we needed change) and we would have tipped him from the change. He claimed he only had a $5 and 20's so he ended up with a $14 tip!!! The food was less than great. The pork lo mean tasted burnt and the beef chow fun was tasteless. The only thing that was fairly decent was the beef with veggies and the crab Rangoon's (although after 90 mins they were soggy). We were severely disappointed after spending $70 (before tip) on food. read more

Quick and pretty good. The service is alright and the food is definitely tasty. I get carry out on my way home from work sometimes and it's not disappointed me yet. I really like their pork fried rice. read more

I used to order from these guys a lot. Regularly. Today I ordered 24 dollars worth of food and got charged 34. When I called to complain they told me there was 3 dollars in taxes and a 5 dollar delivery charge. Not only is that a ridiculous charge but it doesn't even equal the total. Be wary. read more

This China Express location has probably the freshest, most delicious fried rice I've ever had in my entire life. It is delicious in an addictive way, and also amazingly affordable. While the physical location can seem a little off-putting, and the staff can come across as a bit impatient, the food is definitely worth it. read more

This is really my favorite Chinese food place in town. The building, (an old KFC) belies the deliciousness inside. Don't be fooled! It's my family's favorite, too and they have nice lunch specials! :) I always stop by here when I'm in town. read more

This place is way too underrated and don't let the exterior scare you away. The few number of reviews, most of which, are negative reviews is definitely throwing off the rating. I've driven by this restaurant probably 1000 times until I decided to take the plunge and try it out at the suggestion of a local Asian friend. This place definitely gives off a really sketchy vibe. Apparently, it used to be a KFC, which has moved to a location down the street. The interior is...well... not super clean. At least, you can see inside the kitchen from the counter and see what the cooks are doing in the back. The restaurant offers a standard fare of traditional Americanized Chinese food e.g. beef and broccoli. If you are looking for authentic Chinese, you might be better off going to Zen Garden down up the street. The portion size is ridiculously huge. It can feed two adults easily. I've only tried a few dishes here and they were all decent. The food here isn't as greasy as some of the Chinese spots that I've been to. Large combo meals are usually between 7.50 and 8.25, making this place one of the few spots in Burlington that gets you a large meal for less than 10. I definitely think this spot has the best cost to satisfaction ratio in Burlington. read more
