If it wasn't for the other reviews being 5 stars we would have walked out the second after we stepped in....but in Yelp we trust! There was 1 staffer in the front of the house and she did the hostessing and waitressing. She was pretty cold but I don't need the fake smile stuff to have a good time so not really a big deal. First thing we noticed is about 1/3 of the menu isn't available. On the dirty menus there was black "x-outs" over many dishes and on several others the server just said "we are out" when we tried to order them. We ordered some pork soup dumplings, pork buns and spring rolls with the winner of the best dish going to the spring rolls. They very surprisingly crispy and fresh. The dumplings were perfectly sized and had a juicy center but the flavor was fairly bland and without the actual soup (they were out of the pork soup) they gave you no sauce to dunk them. The buns were 95% sticky dough and 5% filling which lead to them also being bland as the ratio of dough to filling was off. If it was based off the food alone it might have been 3-3.5 but the dirty atmosphere, mediocre service and abysmal cleanliness left a lot to be desired (bathroom was worse than the one in city hall park). This place has some potential with a great location right outside Church St market but it needs some TLC to become a gem.

The stuffing was again non-descripti and the wrapper, while black, did not really taste like truffles. Not sure it was worth the extra cost. The roasted duck with pork and shrimp dumplings and rice noodles was probably our least favorite dish. Broth was like water and very flavorless. Dumplings were fine. Noodles were too slippery, not very chewy, and unpleasant to eat. A few bony pieces of duck and some baby bok choy on top.

The desserts, milk cake and gulab jamun, were also small but delicious - the highlights for sure.
