Local here, sadly quite disappointed in what used to be a favorite restaurant of mine. Very good, flavorful, high quality food - but also, several negatives this last visit. Since the moment we sat down it felt like we were being rushed out of the place, we would take a last bite (or even have a few bites left of each dish) and a server would swoop in and clear our plate literally as I'd finish scooping a bite off of it. One time I had a plate under a piece of food (food that was from a separate plate the dish was originally served on) and the waiter came over and tried clearing thins and was like "can I get that one too" as if they were desperately relying on every single plate to get back to the kitchen ASAP. Very bizarre. I never had such a poor serving experience until this last visit this past week. Additionally, portion size and cost are still pushing the limits. $4 PER PITA. Give me a break. Half of the dishes we ordered need and/or do better with a pita and you're going to charge $4 per pita. Two people, two "main dishes" (salad and chicken wings - only 6 wings) and one side dish (muhammara), and one drink each... total of $150 (including tip) seems extremely extravagantly priced. I will reiterate - food is very flavorful, fresh, comes out hot, and would recommend highly if that's all the review was based upon. As we were visiting town we were so lucky to have gotten a recommendation from a local to try this Turkish-inspired small-plates gem. Honey Road is perfect for upscale shared plates. Every bite was flavorful and unique. Service was great, we didn't feel rushed but still finished dinner in 1.5 hours. I ordered the heat of passion cocktail which had a great passionfruit flavor and subtle spice. My dad had the Fair Weather Friend which was a rye based drink but not strong and very floral tasting. For 4 people we shared the whipped goat cheese, muhammara (with pita and crudite), 2 orders of dates (it only comes with 2 dates/order), harissa chicken wings, crispy potatoes, and spinach and cheese pide. We had the tahini sundae for dessert. The portions are smaller than I expected for the price (expect to spend $50-$75 pp) but that was my only issue, would definitely go back again for a special occasion! read more

This is a great Eastern Mediterranean restaurant that serves very delicious food. Walked in on a busy Thursday evening. To our surprise, we got seated at the bar after a 5-minute wait. Our server Madison gave great recommendations not only for the food but also places to visit around the area. Milk and honey, which had gin, honey, lavender, lemon, and labne was refreshing. It was a little strong for me but it was very very good. Sweet Harissa chicken wings, shrimp & shishito shish, cheese and lamb sausage pide, baba ganoush & pita were all delicious. Everytime I plan a trip to Burlington making a reservation at honey Road is the first thing I do. They even allow you to make a selection of wire you're celebrating and any allergies. When I arrive, they always have my menu marked with my net allergy and items crossed out that I'm allergic to. The service is superb and all the waitresses are so nice. The best drink is a tear and a smile. The menu is always changing, but the classics that you must order are the kale salad and chicken wings. The chicken things are the best item on the menu. Don't take them for takeout because they are not as fresh. You also must get the hummus and pita the whipped cheese is always good. Haloumi Cheese was great. Honey Road is just incredible. My husband and I were able to score a Friday night reservation, and the restaurant was BUSY. That being said, the food was just phenomenal. We ended up getting the kale salad, baba ganoush, a house-made pita, the farm greens salad, and the tahini sundae. The food was fantastic. I am not a fan of kale, typically, but the kale salad was out of this world. The restaurant is fairly deep, but there was quite a bit of seating and things were comfortable. The restaurant is decorated with lamps and pillows. The food was delicious, and I would pretty much recommend for everyone in the area to come to this place. If we're ever back in the area, we will definitely be stopping by. The meal from start to finish was phenomenal. Fried Green Tomatoes Over fried, with season-less breading and mushy tomatoes. I was not a fan of this at all. I had killer ones at a place down the street, so that may have made my palate biased. Braised Lamb Simit Bun Snack This was phenomenal! It's definitely not something to share. The best item on the menu and the smallest serving. Lamb Kofta Lamb balls were bland and very rare in the center. I'm not a rare meat fan so this was not my jam. The cabbage slaw was the star of this dish. Seared Haloumi Good sear on the cheese. The summer fruit with the basil gave a great surprise to the tongue. Hot honey also added to the flavors when combined with the fruit in the bite. Delicious and another favorite. Grilled Broccolini It was a tad too salty. It also arrived to the table cold. Good flavors in general just over powered with salt. Sweet Harissa Chicken Wings These were my second favorite. The flavors were dancing on my tongue. Good crisp skin, even under the sauce. Sauced well and the chicken was cooked perfectly. Chocolate Pot de Creme This was a flavor pleaser. It hits all of the senses, sweet, salty, crunchy, smooth. The chocolate is of good quality, rich and fudgey. A stunner of a dessert. The service here was very good -- friendly, attentive, and welcoming -- which made the experience pleasant overall. We ordered a variety of dishes. 1. The muhammara with pita was quite good and probably our favorite of the meal. 2. The braised lamb bun was okay, but the flavors felt a bit unbalanced and leaned too sour with the braising and pickles on added to it . 3. The fish on the specials itself was good, though it came with a lot of gravy and could really benefit from a side of bread to enjoy the gravy. 4.The spinach and feta pide didn't work for us. The cheese was very runny and heavy, and the dish was not appetizing. 5.For dessert, we tried the maple tart with labneh ice cream. It was decent, but the tart crust was quite hard. You MUST come to here! I was in Burlington for a conference and spent quite a bit of the evenings exploring Church Street, as you do when in Burlington. We came across this cute place, looked at the unique menu, and got on the waitlist to sit outside. And BOY am so glad that we did. This place is nothing short of amazing. Our server, Ellis, was incredibly attentive and when I asked about gluten-free options, he brought me gluten-free menu and explained how things could be modified if they weren't completely gluten-free. He recommended great drinks and told us that he advises people to order two plates per person (or more if you are very hungry) since plates are small and meant to be shared. Everything we had was AMAZING. From the crudité, to the haloumi, to the harissa chicken wings, to the lamb kofta, everything was amazing. I cannot wait to come back here...I just need to find a time to fly back to Burlington. read more

Embarrassingly bad experience at Honey Road I have really loved Honey Road and have eaten there numerous times since it opened. I have a dear friend visiting me from out of town, and wanted to take her to my "favorite restaurant in Vermont." But last night's experience was very disappointing. We had a 7:30 reservation, but once we were seated, we were entirely ignored by the wait staff for about 25 minutes, and had to flag someone down to ask if we might have service. No-one had even brought us water or given us a glance since we sat down. In fact, the waitpeople seemed to be studiously avoiding our efforts to make eye contact and get some service -- at least water. It was embarrassing -- especially given that my companion is a person of color. Finally we flagged someone down and made them aware of what was happening. Then we ordered, including the lamb simit. The food was brought, all except for the lamb simit, which we were particularly looking forward to. Most of the food was delicious, although the baba ganoush seemed to be mainly composed of tahini, without any real evidence of eggplant in the preparation. At one point, I asked our server if the lamb was coming. She assured me it was. About 10 minutes later, she returned to tell us that she'd made a mistake and never put in the order for the lamb. She also informed us that they were now out of the lamb, and encouraged us to order something else. By now, we were basically finished with our meal, so we declined. It was disappointingly poor service, and while it didn't entirely *ruin* our meal, it didn't leave us with a happy or fulfilled sense in having dined at the restaurant. Muhammara: Eh... pretty average. I would recommend ordering something else. Seared Haloumi: This dish saved my rating of the restaurant. It's a 3.5* for me, but rounded it up to a 4 because this dish is SO GOOD. That haloumi really hit the spot. The hot honey was amazing with it. Sweet Harissa Chicken Wings: This was my 2nd favorite dish. The glaze on these wings is delicious, and they were cooked nicely. Tahini Sundae: Too sweet. Tahini sundae was good, but the caramel was overpowering. Service was very lackluster. I had an amazing dinner at honey road tonight. I have been here before and it's always outstanding. They do mostly small plates and snacks which I like because you can try a little of everything. The hummus and baba ganoush we ordered were both the best I have ever had. The pita bread was so good, definitely homemade. Even the crudite was so fresh and delicious. I also really loved the braised lamb bun. There's so many great things on the menu here you really can't go wrong with anything. Definitely get some dips to start though! I also love how vegetable heavy the dishes are. The restaurant itself has great ambiance and cool decor. They really pay attention to detail here from the food to the vibes. Great service too. First time visiting Burlington. What a treat to have such a delicious dinner at Honey Road! We ordered a variety of small plates and none left us disappointed. The dolmas and harissa chicken wings were the standouts for us this evening. The sautéed kale was delicious as well, only wish it didn't come out as the last plate of the night. Would have rather had it as a side to the other meat dishes we were eating, rather than solo as the last plate. We joked saying it was our dessert. We walked in on a Monday night and boy it was PACKED. This place is very popular so definitely make a reservation ahead if you want to dine at prime time. We waited about 30 min and got seated at 8pm. Very lively crowd even at that time. They have fun cocktails on the menu but the one I ordered was a little on the sweet side, I think I'd probably get a glass of wine or beer next time. For the food, the wings and the mushroom dishes are a MUST. Was worried the wings might be too sweet/saucey but they are perfectly balanced especially with the sauce on the side and the juiciest wings I've had in a long time. Also in terms of portions compared to rest of the plates, this is certainly the best value in my opinion. The mushrooms are perfectly cooked, so smokey and full of flavor I could each this every day. These plates are SMALL! I tried to take pics with something for reference. I understand small plates and that's fun but this is tiny, itty bitty level small. For full sized entree prices each! The babaganoush was an ice cream scoop. And the pita to dip in it was separate. Super pricey for what you get. That being said, every tiny bite that we did have was very very good. The place is beautiful and it's a treat, but for $143 for a family of 4, and stopping to get a slice of pizza on the way back to our lodging, I just can't give it 5 stars. We trikes the babaganoush but I didn't get a picture of that one. It was super creamy and delicious. The fried green tomatoes were also amazing and I didn't get a picture of them either. We were too excited to eat! lol The sauce they came with was fantastic. We got 2 orders ( for 4 people) of the halloumi which was delicious but didn't look like the ones on the reviews. The menu was different from when I stopped in last year, so they must change it up but I was disappointed that there were no figs as pictured in many reviews. We also got 2 orders of the wings which were also delicious but we each got 3 super tiny wings to eat which was not even enough for our 2 teens who are very sparse eaters. Me fiancée and I shared the braised lamb bun and we each for one bite. Thaw flavor there was underwhelming but as far as flavor and taste that is the only dish we didn't love. We've eaten at Honey Road multiple times. We try to eat here every time we're in Burlington. It has NEVER disappointed! Not only is the quality and taste of the food exceptional, so is the service. Service is clearly a team effort there; everyone is friendly and attentive. They are on top of everything. The staff doesn't seem rushed and doesn't make you feel rushed either. It's a very comfortable atmosphere. The pita is so warm and soft and pillowy, you just want to wrap yourself in it. It is the perfect vehicle for sopping up all the goodness on every plate that Honey Road serves. The chicken wings are always perfect--crisp, never charred, and wildly flavorful. Finger-licking goodness for sure. I really appreciate how attentive the restaurant is. I made a reservation and stated that a member of my party is gluten free, so they sat us with a GF menu and took the time to explain what they could, and couldn't, make gluten free. I also indicated that the occasion was a birthday so they served dessert with a candle. Only here for a day, went looking for a top spot in town and definitely found it . Menu is simple but elegant and everything is shareable. Plenty of vegetarian options and everything was super unique and tasty bringing together flavors and ingredients that I never thought would work together.
