This is my go-to restaurant for fast, reasonably priced, good Chinese food. I have been here many times, and each time I was more than satisfied with both the service and the food! The scallion pancakes especially are delicious, and my boyfriend can't get enough of the Peking Duck. I love the tofu options (HomeStyle is my favorite), as well as how accommodating the kitchen is when asking for substitutions, etc. Their new healthy conscious menu (on the back page) is a wonderful addition, and I'll be ordering solely from that from now on (except for appetizers; would love to see some healthy versions of those, if possible). Generally speaking, I give this place props for fast service, a friendly atmosphere, more than satisfactory food, and reasonable prices. Nothing outstanding enough to merit 5 stars, but they aren't going for that, honestly. No complaints here; I highly recommend Asian Kitchen for casual Chinese dining (including take-out/delivery). Bonus: Leftovers are just as good the next day, and I love getting two good meals for the price of one. :) read more

Got it? Now that we're clear, let's get down to brass tacks - this place is about as friendly as you can get. I eat here once or twice a month, and each time I come in for takeout I am greeted with an enormous smile and am called by my first name. They ask me about my job, family, etc. It's unreal how friendly this place is. Speed? covered. Dining in is (oddly) a bit slower than takeout. If you call literally the second you leave the house, it will be ready when you walk in their door. Now, I'm not going to lie to you - noodle dishes are a little 'eh'. And don't go looking for mind-blowing pad thai. But, if you're in the mood for a killer stir fry with vegetables a-plenty, then you're in luck. The basil shrimp is, I think, their best dish. Perfectly hot, tons of vegetables and REAL shrimp - not little frozen shrimp nuggets. And if you can force yourself to stop eating, which is difficult, you will easily have enough for lunch the next day. For my money, this place is the best asian fusion in Durham. read more

Asian Kitchen is a locally owned run of the mill Americanized Chinese food in a strip mall called Hope Valley Commons Shopping Center on the corner of NC highway 54 & NC highway 751 about a mile off Interstate 40. On this visit I ordered Orange Chicken with Wonton soup. The Wonton soup tasted like dish water and the Orange Chicken was some of the worst I have had. I had friends tell me the food here, particularly take-out, was great. They told me it was behind Dunkin Donuts. Well, folks, behind DD is the banal Neo-Something, which I tried one night -- bleh -- and I can tell you that weren't no spoon. Some other friends again told me how great this place was, an I hemmed and hawed, "Sorry, I tried it once and I don't see what the appeal." So they directed me there .... oops, it's NOT behind Dunkin Donuts. Totally wrong place. Will the real Asian Kitchen stand up? Yes, the food was great ... I had the lemongrass chicken and tried my daughter's dumplings, ... both good to the last nibble. I went back a few nights later for takeout and couldn't believe the feast that I carted home. All good, all yummy, me and the Lillian Unit were stuffed. I've since programmed Asian Kitchen into my phone, so that the next time I'm thinking, "No, I'm not cooking tonight, and dammit I'm going to get a cheesy, stupid movie from Red Box," I know who to dial for some take-out while I'm trying to decide between the questionable Steve Carrell movie, the questionable edgy suspense film, the hit-or-miss rom-com, or the CGI kiddie movie that friends told me wasn't so bad. Gross. Gross. Gross. We ordered the beef and broccoli combo and the Szechuan beef combo. The egg roll that came with it was so overcooked and grease literally ran out of it when you barely picked it up. The beef in both of our dishes was super stringy and chewy and the vegetables were so oily. Even the for turn cookies were stale. Awful!!!! Maybe I ordered the wrong thing but the hibachi chicken and steak was so tough I could eat it. The vegetables were really good and the white sauce was ok but the fried rice was also not good either. The dumplings had a bone in them that I almost chipped my tooth on and the egg roll was soggy. You know, I normally would not go to a place that calls itself "Asian kitchen", but I was craving Chinese and the location seemed appropriate. I love this place. I want to make it clear, this is your typical Asian restaurant, however, it is exceptionally clean and great looking. The staff is VERY friendly, and the portions are huge. Everything tastes great. I got take-out from Asian Kitchen again, this time ordering the teriyaki chicken, egg roll and egg-drop soup (I was hungry). The lady who took my order over the phone was really nice and repeated back my order to make sure it was right. She advised it would be 15 minutes, and when I arrived approx. 15 minutes later, my order was ready and waiting for me :-) The chicken in the teriyaki was a bit dry, but everything else about the dish was good. The chicken chunks were quite large and the stir fry vegetables were fresh and plentiful. The egg roll didn't disappoint and wasn't overly greasy. The egg-drop soup was delish!, and small size is a good portion. Over all I was a bit more pleased with my second visit to Asian Kitchen (hence the extra star). Nothing spectacular, but good service and healthy-(ish) dishes make it a solid choice for Asian-American cuisine. read more

2 1\2 stars I ordered to be delivered the lemon grass chicken & soup, crab rangoon & fried dumplings as appetizers. Plus mango pudding for dessert. The food arrived quick and was very hot, the gentleman who delivered was pleasant and friendly. And that is probably the best part of the meal. Very disappointed in the lemon grass chicken. Both appetizers also left a lot to be desired. Rangoon wrap was chewy, not crisp. The dumplings had an okay taste but both left you with the impression that they had been made a long time ago and have been setting in the freezer for months. The soul and dessert was okay, but nothing that made you want seconds let alone order again. I would not recommend to a friend. read more

I cannot believe that this place is averaging 4 stars. The food is very Americanized and it lacks a touch that would suggest that they know basic food preparation. I ordered the Peking Duck and it was clear that it had been cooked well in advance and reheated. It was also served with tortillas and not the traditional bread that comes with it. We were unpleasantly surprised by our food at Asian Kitchen. My husband's shrimp in garlic sauce came in an unappetizing-looking soup liquid rather than a sauce. He fished out the shrimp onto "fried rice" which was really white rice covered in oil without any veggies/meat/egg for flavor. My pad thai was good relative to the shrimp in garlic sauce, but the amount of chicken was sparse to say the least. Finally, we asked about the 10% online ordering discount that multiple yelpers have alluded to, only for a girl behind the counter, who couldn't have been more than 13 years old, curtly tell us there was so such discount. Although I've always enjoyed Asian Kitchen, my most recent visit proved that anybody can have a bad day! Service, choice, and friendly staff remained unchanged. We ordered Mango Chicken, soup, egg roll, and cashew chicken with fried rice & hot tea. Big problem with one item served, which they corrected as soon as I pointed it out to them, enabling them to be rated three-stars....you get credit for fixing a problem, right? We'll go back and see if they recovered or are declining, as they're convenient and have always been a good choice in the past. read more

Ordered through DoorDash which was smooth. The food was good, and the fried rice was good as well just a little weird in color (yellowish). I was shorted an egg roll which other people have said has happened. Crab Rangoons were fantastic. Overall good and I'll order from here again. read more

Stick with the Chinese food. Avoid the Thai and dumplings. This is the only Asian place we've found that delivers to our house. We have ordered a few times with mixed results. I've literally never had dumplings I didn't like until I ordered the veggie dumplings from this place. They were just full of frozen spinach and nasty. Avoid. The sesame chicken we ordered was good. The Thai food, is weird. My Pad Thai was bright orange (literally everything in the dish was orange), which I've never seen before. I got chicken flavor and for some reason it also had big chunks of tofu. Overall, kind of weird. They also don't send utensils, so make sure you have your own. read more

This place is great for your classic Chinese food staples. The dumplings are probably the best Chinese dumplings I've ever had and the hot and sour soup is delightful. I've tried a few of the Thai dishes and they're not so great, but if you want Thai then there are plenty of other places to go. Ordered take out from here tonight (they deliver!) First off, their menu is pretty extensive: Chinese, Japanese, and Thai dishes. There's something for everyone. Delivery was pretty fast, and they obviously came straight here because my food was piping hot. I had the Bangkok shrimp; a friend had hibachi steak and shrimp. I had never had Bangkok shrimp before, so I can't be sure by comparison, but it was fantastic. Super flavorful and spicy, but definitely not overwhelming. (Note: I like things REALLY spicy, so tread lightly if you have a delicate palate.) The veggies were nice, though maybe a few too many peppers. (Personal preference, I'm sure others will be thrilled.) The sauce was a nice consistency, thin enough that you could still taste the food, but thick enough that it stayed on the food as well. There's nothing worse than meat/veggies laying in "water". I stole a couple pieces of my friend's hibachi so this would be an honest review! I was a little underwhelmed by the hibachi. Not because it wasn't good, but mostly because it wasn't what I was expecting. The meat tasted more grilled than hibachied, (sure that's a word...) which is honestly probably healthier, so I can't really complain. Upon examination, the menu does call it grilled hibachi, so maybe that one is on us. Maybe I'll stick to the Thai varieties when ordering from this place. I love, love, love Asian Kitchen. The food is always fresh and delicious and the service is outstanding. The menu has a really good selection of classic Asian dishes from Pad Thai to Hunan Chicken. The meat, seafood and vegetables are always really fresh and the portions are very generous. My favorite dish is the Thai red curry with chicken. It's a nice balance of spicy chili and sweet coconut milk with lots of veggies, tofu and sliced chicken breast. YUM! read more

Honestly, as a New Yorker that travels to RDU for work, this is pretty much the closest thing to good Chinese-American food that tastes like what you'd get in NYC. Their delivery is super quick, the food is very well cooked and seasoned, and they offer online ordering. I recommend their broccoli dishes, hot and sour soup, and their crab rangoons. read more

We recently moved to the area and have been trying out different Chinese take out places. Our order is pretty standard - general tso chicken and sesame tofu. The hubs said the general tso here was his favorite that we've tried so far. I appreciate that my sesame tofu was delivered with the sauce on the side so the tofu stays kinda crispy. We also ordered steamed veggie dumplings. They weren't my favorite bc they were spinach based. Last but not least, the delivery guy was super nice and quicker than we expected. Went there today as I was getting oil change next door. Food was decent but the guy waiter (slim with glasses) was not happy to be there as there was no "thank you" nor any sign of gratitude. When bring ing out the food he kinda put it down really hard. not necessarily throwing it down but not in a careful way. at the end of the meal He didn't even tell me the amount. He just took my card and had me sign the receipt and put the receipt on the counter instead of handing it to me like a courteous person should. Again I was waiting for him to say thank you for coming and have a nice day like all other restaurants (even drive thrus) say to a paying customer. At first I thought it was the amount of tip but I tipped him 20%. I will visit again and review again in the future as I don't like to lower a business' rating if the employee was just having a bad day. But being in a customer service business myself i notice things like: not saying thank you, not putting receipts/change in persons hand, and a simple goodbye. Actually thinking about it now just kinda makes me upset. If he was my employee, I would fire his butt. I hope the manager/owner will see this post and talk with the employee. The time of my visit was 8/17/13 at 11:20am so that you can see who was working. He was the only server that was working when I was there so it shouldn't be too hard. read more

I'm sure everyone has found themselves in this same situation....You move to a new area and you try all the Asian places in your hood until you settle on the one you like best. Asian Kitchen was a part of our initial survey a couple of years ago and they didn't cut the mustard. Fast forward three years and we thought we would give them another try but nothing has changed. Portions are good, service is quick and friendly and their prices are on par with the area but the food lacks flavor. Their flavor profiles are one dimensional and the quality of ingredients are average at best. I like spicy food and even asking them to prepare something extra spicy isn't enough. If you live in the SoDu area and are looking for some solid Asian cuisine drive the 4.8 miles to East Coast Bistro. The food is better and so are their prices. read more

Had both lunch here with my daughter and dinner with my wife and some friends. The hot and sour soup here is extremely good. I also had the garlic sauce with chicken for lunch. For dinner I tried the steamed dumplings and the Dragon & Phoenix, which was really tasty. Everyone in our party was very pleased with their dinner, as well. The waitress remembered me from lunch and was very pleasant. Service was prompt and friendly. This has become a favorite with me. read more

I have given this place multiple tries and sadly continue to be disappointed. I have done carryout and delivery. The General's chicken was so bad that I couldn't make it past a second piece. The egg rolls and crab rangoon were pretty decent though. I started just ordering those for pickup. After a few months I decided to give an entree another chance. I love Singapore street noodles and hoped it would be a good experience. I can't even. It was horrible. I couldn't get past the second bite. The noodles were bitter and smelly. The protein (chicken and shrimp) was rubbery. None of it was salvageable. :( I relocated to the area several months ago and have yet to find tasty Chinese American food. read more
