Okay, when you're in Gilroy, there really aren't much options for food aside from greasy fast food or diner food. We were at Gilroy Gardens and was famished and needed some food in our bellies. My sister hopped on Yelp, while we were on top of the ferris wheel and found this place. Sister: "Want to get asian buffet?" Me: "Sure, what's the place called?" Sister: "Asian Buffet" LOLOLOL! This place has really good reviews and prices so we decided to give it a shot. They only charge half of what other buffets in the Bay Area charges! All 5 of us dined for less than $80 after tips and tax. They have lots of food too, from crab to shrimp to sushi and Chinese food. Everything was well seasoned and had lots of ingredients in it. The food kept coming, whenever anything was low, an employee was quick to fill it back up. The staff here are great and on top of their stuff, plates never sit on your table for more than 10 minutes and water gets refilled before your cup even reaches the last drop. Some of my favorites were: -Hot & Sour Soup: Hot damn, they put a lot of ingredients in this! The tofu bits are huge & they put lots of black fungus & bamboo shoots in it. Usually places give you the tiniest of pieces of the ingredients and give you mostly liquid. -Salt and pepper crab: I admit, the crab here don't have a lot of meat because they don't use dungeness crab but they were still super tasty. Does take a lot of effort but hey you gotta be willing to put in work when eating seafood! -Chow Mein: They use the chubbier noodles, so chewy and delicious. -Sushi: Who doesn't like sushi? -Salt and pepper shrimp & honey walnut shrimp (minus the walnuts) Don't be turned off by their name or low reviews. Asian Buffet The fam and I make a pit stop here roughly 50% of the time when we visit Gilroy Gardens. The percentage is solely due to thThey charge per year for kids so that's a major plus! The selection for both lunch and dinner is excellent!! Even weekend lunch has some sushi, muscles, chilled and fried shrimp, (there has to be another 1-2 seafood dishes, sushi/sashimi, I'm missing that are normally reserved for dinner at the traditional buffet). Service is great as it normally is at a buffet, the food has a pretty high turnaround (at least in my experience) and the servers are accessible if needed. Love it here! First of all, the food is great and I mean great. From the dishes to the desserts and soups, they have actual flavor! Like you can genuinely taste each thing and like how it tastes. I will say I love the sushi and the desserts they have. You can't beat the price either and they have a good amount of choices for dishes. They have Tuna avocado rolls (I think, unless it is salmon but either way) as well, so you can also get omega-3's here. Hard to go wrong. Stopping by once a day can take care of most of your daily nutritional needs, and it can save you time on cooking and cleaning if you have a tight schedule, which is pretty cool. Basically efficient, nutritious and convenient. Is it ideal to survive on buffet foods? Well no not entirely. Is it cost effective? Yes. Does it save you time? Yeah. Tried a little of everything and liked it all. The ribs were really good. Also enjoyed their sushi selection. It wasn't very diverse but what they had was good. It's not what I would call authentic Chinese food but everything was fresh. They also refilled empty items rather quickly. Service was spot on. Now open during the pandemic. You walk in, they give you a to go container and your own set of tongs. If you want rice, sushi or sauces they will serve you. They keep all entrees covered on the steam table until customers are ready to serve. When you are done, you drop off your dirty tongs and get your order weighed. The selection is limited compared to pre-COVID but you can still make a nice enough plate for yourself. Changing to 3 stars from 4. First time I went was right when they opened, the food was nice and fresh. When we came here this time, 2 hours before closing, it was pretty busy. We stood there waiting for the lady to come up for about 7 minutes. I asked if we could go sit down,... about another 5 minutes we finally were able to go get a table. You could tell the food has been sitting there for some time; didn't look too appetizing. There was 3 people who asked employees if they were going to refill the crab. A bunch of items were empty and left empty. An hour before closing the employees were cleaning up as if they were about to close. But there was about 50-60 people there with an hour to go. I'm amazed that they've kept the price the same even after a year - definitely the cheapest buffet in the Bay. You get what you pay for. The interior seating and dishware were clean, the selection of items was decent, and the food was tasty. Initial seating was a bit slow but they were great at clearing up empty plates as well as refilling food items. As always I tried a little bit of everything that looked appealing and went back for more if it's good. Some of the things that I enjoyed were the seasoned fries, fried calamari, deep fried sushi, fried catfish filet, char siu ribs, and seafood soup. I usually always get platefuls of the black bean clams but they were too salty on this particular occasion, perhaps better luck on another day. Went to try this place out a couple of days ago after going to the Gilroy Outlet. Gotta admit, my expectations were better than I expected. Going to Chinese buffets always has the stigma of being dirty and the food having low quality...and perhaps in general, there is some truth to that. However, Asian Buffet isn't like that. For one, the place is quite clean...the servers quicky clean the table as soon as guests leave and they don't stare at you while you're eating expecting you to leave asap. They mind their business at the back and goes on to your table just to pick up the plates. As far as the food is concern, the food was not bad. There are a variety of foods to choose from, from sushi to straight American food. The desserts are also abundant, and there is always supplies of utensils and plates on the table. I always go for the sushi at every buffet I go to, so I tend to rate the Chinese buffet based on their sushi (odd as it might sound). This place has an okay selection of sushi - might have added an unagi roll, but the ones they have are pretty good. Dinner pricing was $11.75. For a basic Asian buffet, that pricing was really cheap. Seniors 65 and older get a 10% discount as well. All in all my group of 6 ate for less than $80, so cheap. My son chose chinese food for his birthday dinner tonight. So we took him here, since it's one of his favorite places. The food was good, I'm sure it would have been even better if it was fresh but you could tell the food had been sitting under the lights for a while, still it wasn't bad. The customer service was great, it was like they could read our minds, knowing when we wanted refills or needed new cutlery. Came here for lunch on Sunday with the biffle on our way back from camping. We decided to take a chance on this buffet because he couldn't decide on whether he wanted the buffet, or breakfast-brunch. Surprisingly this buffet was very well kept. The lunch options were a little skimpy but it had your staples: soups, chow mien, fried rice, different entrees to go with them. I wished there were more seafood selections though. Overall, the variety was there for the audience. I really liked their soft serve ice cream too!! There were a few open tables and booths to choose from. Not a lot of people so the place a quiet and relax. Don't expect real Chinese food here.
