We went on a busy Saturday afternoon and had to wait a bit. The cost was exceptionally great for a buffet, $9.55 per adult. Children and seniors are cheaper. The place was clean and the service was friendly and food was replenished quickly. Although I only went back once, I could see that some people were just hanging out, going out for cigarette breaks, letting their food settle (and they had been there during the twenty minutes that we were first waiting to be seated) so they could continue eating for hours. I guess my point is that if you want to get the benefit of a buffet, this is probably the place for you. No one seemed to be harassed about waiting around and not eating. As usual with most buffets, there was a great variety of dishes. There was an entire section of sushi, Chinese dishes, American (fried chicken, macaroni, etc), plus desserts. I didn't have a dessert, but I know there were plenty. I particularly enjoyed the egg flower and hot and sour soup. But other items were yummy too. Here's What I Think... Mom loves her a good bargain and believe me, Asian Buffet delivers when it comes to that! Since we were taking part in some retail therapy @ Gilroy Premium Outlets, mom made the bright decision of stopping by Asian Buffet for dinner. Parking was a breeze, there was no wait upon checking in, and the quick run through the buffet left me with the typical filler items. Although AB is a lot smaller than other buffets, there is a teeny tiny dessert area, a sad looking salad bar, a few selections of grey tinted rolls of sushi, and Americanized Chinese dishes. 1 star because you really can't beat the price. Food at its best is mediocre and the customer service is horrendous. Be prepared to have dirty plates piled high and help no where to be found. Don't let the food pictures fool you... Customer service was quick, responsive. The part that makes it really a no star is the quality of their food. I had grabbed a deep fried crab, noticed there was a short facial hair on it, embedded with the deep fried corn starch. As I brought it to the waitstaff's attention, she said: "Oh a hair? Let me see." Proceeds to pick it out of the crab. Tries to justify that it was from the mussels. Um no. It is not from the mussels. It was a sad bust for food finds for my inner foodie. Baked mussels were over saturated with sauce that wasn't cooked all the way because they layered heavy amounts of sauce. So when you bit into the mussel it was just kewpie mayo. Sautéed mushrooms tasted like it was sitting in some old sauce and expired. I like the honey walnut shrimp. They also had a spicy version of that, which was good. Our family of 5 arrived about 1pm on a sunday and was given dinner prices. So im guessing on sundays they serve dinner all day. It made sense because they had crab available. The crab was grilled. Rather on the small side but it was only $12.55 for all you can eat. Unfortunately the crab was not soft at all since it was grilled so it was extremely tough to get meat. And all the meat was in the chest only and a little in the claws. The rest was too small so it was fried. The children prices were more than fair. Drinks are $1.89 each for fountain drinks. The kids got full off one plate. I had 5 different kinds of sushi and they were all good. They offered orange chicken, crab, fried rice, chow mein, fried shrimp and fish, ribs, beef n broccoli, won tons, dumplings, eggrolls, ice cream, cream puffs etc. Asian soups available too! Okay, when you're in Gilroy, there really aren't much options for food aside from greasy fast food or diner food. We were at Gilroy Gardens and was famished and needed some food in our bellies. My sister hopped on Yelp, while we were on top of the ferris wheel and found this place. Sister: "Want to get asian buffet?" Me: "Sure, what's the place called?" Sister: "Asian Buffet" LOLOLOL! This place has really good reviews and prices so we decided to give it a shot. They only charge half of what other buffets in the Bay Area charges! All 5 of us dined for less than $80 after tips and tax. They have lots of food too, from crab to shrimp to sushi and Chinese food. Everything was well seasoned and had lots of ingredients in it. The food kept coming, whenever anything was low, an employee was quick to fill it back up. The staff here are great and on top of their stuff, plates never sit on your table for more than 10 minutes and water gets refilled before your cup even reaches the last drop. Some of my favorites were: -Hot & Sour Soup: Hot damn, they put a lot of ingredients in this! The tofu bits are huge & they put lots of black fungus & bamboo shoots in it. Usually places give you the tiniest of pieces of the ingredients and give you mostly liquid. -Salt and pepper crab: I admit, the crab here don't have a lot of meat because they don't use dungeness crab but they were still super tasty. Does take a lot of effort but hey you gotta be willing to put in work when eating seafood! -Chow Mein: They use the chubbier noodles, so chewy and delicious. -Sushi: Who doesn't like sushi? -Salt and pepper shrimp & honey walnut shrimp (minus the walnuts) Don't be turned off by their name or low reviews. Asian Buffet The fam and I make a pit stop here roughly 50% of the time when we visit Gilroy Gardens. The percentage is solely due to thThey charge per year for kids so that's a major plus! The selection for both lunch and dinner is excellent!! Even weekend lunch has some sushi, muscles, chilled and fried shrimp, (there has to be another 1-2 seafood dishes, sushi/sashimi, I'm missing that are normally reserved for dinner at the traditional buffet). Service is great as it normally is at a buffet, the food has a pretty high turnaround (at least in my experience) and the servers are accessible if needed.
