Yo just don't find many stores like this anymore, with such a mix of items. It is fun to wander thru the narrow isles and see what they have. Service has always been friendly. Sure the prices don't match the discount stores, but they have stuff! Other reviews seems to have issues with their return policy. I have only ever returned one item and had no issues.

I used to love shopping at The General Store, but I haven't been back since the day I was…read morewrongfully accused of stealing. I was stopped at the front of the store, right by the cash registers, in full view of everyone coming and going. Multiple employees surrounded me while they searched my purse and my person. It was one of the most humiliating experiences I've ever had, especially knowing I had done nothing wrong. After they found nothing, one employee quietly apologized to me. What hurt the most was that there was never a public acknowledgment that I hadn't stolen anything or a public apology in front of all the people who had just watched me be treated like I had stolen something. Instead, I was left to walk away carrying the embarrassment and humiliation on my own. I went home in tears that day, and I have never been back. I genuinely used to enjoy shopping there, but the way that situation was handled changed that for me completely. I recently shared this experience in a comment on one of The General Store's TikTok posts about how amazing their store is. I wasn't trying to be hateful or disrespectful. I shared it because this experience genuinely hurt me, and I felt that customers should be able to speak honestly about how they have been treated. What was especially disappointing was their response. Rather than reaching out to say, "We're sorry this happened to you," acknowledging how the situation was handled, or letting me know that steps had been taken to prevent another customer from having a similar experience, they blocked me. That response was incredibly disappointing. I wasn't looking for anything from them other than some accountability and acknowledgment that the way I was treated was hurtful and humiliating. Being blocked for respectfully sharing my experience left me feeling as though protecting the store's image mattered more than hearing from a customer who had been deeply hurt by the way she was treated.

Always great service when we come…read more The store is clean and well lit and everyone is so friendly. We shop here a lot. Though ACE is nationally known, a local family owns this store. They have a great selection for a small store and their monthly specials are great. Why the 3 star rating? The staff. Completely inconsistent. So it can kinda be a crapshoot...maybe worth asking a different person if you get bad service? I'll keep going there because it's not a dreaded drive to the box stores (why are Home Depot and Lowes nearly across the street from each other?). If treated badly by the staff, I can always walk across the parking lot to Huckleberry's and treat myself to something tasty.

SHAME ON YOU for not letting me spend the money on something else. SHAME ON YOU and your spineless children working the counter who only say "We'll that's policy". I called to verify they are in stock before driving 2 hours each way. I Immediately asked for someone who knows their roofing screws. A man who doesn't know them insisted on helping. After several minutes of being told they don't make what I want, I was then told they don't even carry roofing screws. They do. I decided to buy for my house and shops from somewhere else. He became rude and refused to give me anyone else. Make your own choice. My roofer friend was certainly correct. Please train your employees on the products and at a bare minimum be polite and willing to transfer a phone call and be willing to verify stock to save someone 4 hours of driving. This was obviously a case of being too lazy just to go check what you actually have. That is terrible service especially when I tell them I'm driving two hours each way and I don't want to come home empty-handed just to have to make the drive again.
