This is hands-down the best West African cuisine in the Bergen County area. Every dish is made with so much heart, full of flavor and spice. Our go-to orders are Egusi and fufu, oxtail stew, jollof rice. Restaurant has a very comfortable, family friendly vibe. The portions are huge and very filling.

Friendly service. Clean and spacious Food - Peanut Butter Soup is absolutely amazing. We ordered this with mixed meats would definitely order again and come back just for this. Order an extra fufu since this is a substantial amount of soup (qt) Red Snapper - I didn't love this. Cooked too hard for my liking Jollof Rice - it was fine Sobola - lovely I enjoyed this refreshing sorrel drink.

This is a fantastic restaurant for authentic West African food. It's a great place to try out the cuisine even if you've never had it before. The restaurant has very modern decor including colorful paintings from Ghana which adorn the walls. They have a good amount of seating inside, as well as an outdoor tent that can be rented for special events and parties. Employees were very friendly and helpful. They offer a variety of stews, meats, and vegetables. All the food is presented behind a glass display so you can see exactly what you are ordering. They have large and small platters to choose from. I ordered a large and was very impressed with the quantity of food. The jollof rice is a must-try dish with rice simmered in a savory tomato sauce. It was well-seasoned with nice, firm texture. The black-eyed pea stew blew me away. It had a rich sauce and the perfect amount of spicy flavor. The fried plantains were sweet and well charred. I also tried the fried yams and enjoyed their dense filling, which fills you up quickly. My boyfriend tried the goat stew and said it was excellent as well. For dessert, we got their fried doughnuts. These are a nice option for those who like subtle sweetness. As a vegetarian, you might think you'd have limited options here, but there were plenty of meat-free selections to enjoy. This is one of the few West African restaurants in the area and definitely worth a visit for a flavorful food experience. The prices were very affordable too.

The new name of this place is BUKA which is why I couldn't find it on here which I found strange because they were quite a bit of reviews when I found it through Uber Eats. I wanted to try a different African dish from what I've had so I went with the highly rated Waakye. I ordered the larger size for an extra $2 and change and got about a 5 pound container. It was filled with the traditional rice mixed with black-eyed peas, some pasta and I chose the stewed chicken. I had enough rice for three big servings however the chicken pieces were much smaller than expected and about five pieces which was not enough for this meal. The chicken was very tender, very well seasoned and had a little bit of heat which was great to contrast the rice and peas which were a little bitter because of the sorghum so I wanted something sweet to balance it out so I grabbed a couple of sweet plantains I had in the freezer and it was perfect.

Ordered off UberEats with a discount coupon (without the coupon, comes to about $45). I've tried West African food in the city before, and at a similar price, though I have to say Asante's egusi and jollof rice is far better! Everything came packed neatly and no oily residue on the containers, despite the meal itself calling for a lot of oil. The small jollof was huge, smokey and full of tomato-ey flavor. There were two large pieces of goat which had almost a jerky consistency (but in a good way?). Egusi had plenty of savory flavor, two drumsticks of chicken, and some sort of cartilage (all of which was tender and delicious). Fufu tasted as it should - I feel like that one is hard to mess up. Fed me and my friend for a meal, and the leftovers could probably feed the both of us for another. 100% will be ordering from here again in the future, good quality food.

I stumbled upon Asante's while searching on Yelp for a spot nearby to pick up lunch. The restaurant was empty in the middle of the afternoon; but it was very clean to say the least. I couldn't wait to get back to work to dive in. I absolutely loved the Jollof Rice, but the Chicken Stew was too spicy for my pallet, I would have enjoyed it more had it been somewhat milder, but I was too busy sweating on my nose from the spiciness. I will definitely pay them another visit soon, I will have to try something else though. I'll let you all know the outcome when I do.

I got the Jollof rice with chicken and Waakye with goat for takeout. First off, the portions are huge. So you're getting a lot of bang for your buck. The Jollof rice was fantastic. It had great flavor and spice level. The Waakye I wasn't as high on, mainly because the goat was far too tough to chew. I ate two pieces and couldn't finish the rest. Next time I'll stick to chicken or try the fish.

I've ordered from Asante' restaurant a couple times awhile ago and while the food isn't super delicious (Abuja in Union is the best), their food is good and they are generous with portions. Now, I don't know what Asante's is trying to do here. On the ubereats app, they have 3 other restaurants with different names, that have the same address of 1280 Teaneck Rd. The restaurants are Fishka, Buka, and Eclectic Soups. Look at the ubereats app and see for yourself. So anyway, we ordered from Buka last night since they have a BOGO for sweet plantains. We also ordered egusi soup with meat, okra soup with fish, and 2 jollof rice 1 with chicken stew and 1 with fish stew. The woman from Buka called me to confirm my order. I told her I wanted 1 jollof rice with chicken, not 2 with fish stew. I also asked her to please do not put cowfoot in my egusi, which she said ok she won't put it. Then she says ubereats has to change my order to make it a jollof rice with chicken. I did a chat with ubereats who said no the restaurant has to do it. So I called the woman at Buka back and told her this. She then says I will have to call Asante restaurant to get it fixed. I called Asante but the woman said the Ubereats driver already picked up the order. The egusi soup had cowfoot. The okra soup had meat, not fish like we ordered. They gave us the wrong sodas. And on top of all that, their other names charge more for the food than Asante. Why are they doing this? What is the point? If we knew they charged more for the same items for Buka, we would not have given them our money. Just be careful if you're going to order from them. Make sure you're ordering from Asante and not one of their fake storefronts. Ubereats needs to stay on top of stuff like this.

Tried some Afro-Caribbean cuisine this evening for a dinner meeting with founding members of #TDC. I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the Jollof rice, plantain, beans, and spinach. @asantes_restaurant

Finally stopped in to Asante's, and I'm glad I did! Never had African cuisine before, and I've been missing something! Went in after lunch on a Saturday and there was a steady stream of customers! Fortunately, Liz and Kedesha were very helpful in describing the many delicious dishes available. Ended up ordering chicken stew and Jollof rice. Got a turkey tail as well! Really great flavors and a generous portion! Got to meet Edward Asante himself, who also owns Ed's Market next door as well as Bagel Boss next to that! Wonder if he owns the building too! Really looking forward to going back and sampling other flavorful African dishes! Check it out!

After passing it numerous times, I decided to explore one of their lunch options. Spinach Patty: Initially, I was reluctant to try a vegetarian patty. As soon as I took my first bite, I immediately took a liking to this appetizer. The spinach filling was warm and tasty. And the outer crust had a slight crunch. Jerk Chicken Lunch: The chicken was tender and juicy with a mild kick. The outer skin was seasoned perfectly. Also included were two miniature cups of jerk sauce (not pictured). The reddish colored dip was great for dipping the chicken, rice & peas and even the spinach patty. I was grateful the sauce was not poured over the meal; then it would have dried up. The indoor dining area is limited to high top counters and a few outdoor dining tables. Island Spice does not have their own parking lot, but plenty of parking is available on local side streets. There is also a free municipal parking lot a few blocks away. This location may be a hole in the wall, but the Caribbean food is outstanding and you will definitely get an authentic "taste" of Jamaica. #caribbeanfood #atasteofislandspice #jerkchicken #spinachpatty #jamaicanpatty #teanecknj

The oxtails tasted burnt--like they had been slow-cooking all day and what we got were the overcooked, charred pieces that should've been tossed, not served. Really disappointing for a dish that should be rich and flavorful. The staff didn't help the experience either. I get the saying, "you know it's a real Caribbean spot when the staff is a little spicy," but this wasn't that--it wasn't playful or sassy, it just came off as rude and mean. It made the whole visit feel unwelcoming. Honestly, I wanted to love this place, but between the burnt food and the bad service, it just didn't hit.
