We attended a birthday party last evening and had a private room with one server. We had my 3 grandchildren with us and ordered 2 lemonades for them. We were told that everything was included in the party package that our host purchased except for alcohol. I wish I could accurately describe the absolutely horrible service that we received but suspect it's not possible. It was a full 45 minutes before the kids got their drinks and that was after asking for them 3 times. Our drinks from the bar were delivered about 15 minutes after ordering. I also ordered two chicken tenders kids meals from the manager (couldn't find our server). Near the end of the evening I cancelled the order since we still had not received the meals. I spoke with the same manager and he seemed to be surprised that the meals had not been delivered and looked over to our server who had just walked up. The server convinced my son to accept the meals and presented 2 meals that had sat under the warmer in the kitchen long enough for the chicken to be hard and dry. Next we requested the bill. A bill was presented and explained to my son even though the server knew I was paying. It was on a mobile payment terminal so I completed the payment. The 20% tip was already included. I reviewed my receipt on my phone and when I tried to complete the survey attached found that I got a message that a review was already submitted. I found that I was charged $5 each for cups of lemonade that were 4" tall and delivered so late that a refill wasn't possible even if we could have requested with our absent server. They also charged me for the 2 ruined kids meals. I spoke with the manager, Hector, and he was both apologetic and professional. Our server also told me multiple times that she simply did the best she could but interesting, did not offer one word of regret for ruining our evening. Jenny was our server and she presented an obvious disregard for all things service related. The meal was a buffet so her only level of service needed was for drinks. She attempted to present as friendly but honestly all professional servers know better than neglecting the kids meals. There's a new side patio augmenting the little stage for music, beautiful lawn and water feaure out back, the menu has added a few more cuts of steak, which I order frequently here, and it's simply a pretty place to eat outside and enjoy elevated food for a reasonable price. My wife and I shared Ceviche that was great, and we've had the grilled queso and other delights here, too. Even the salad bar is packed with a different hot soup every day, cheese, and charcuterie. First time at location since it was previously Zeds. Very nice location, ample parking and customer service was very good. We had a party of 5 and had varying ratings of the food but none were bad. I had the mole chicken enchiladas and was not disappointed, but the rice and beans were a little bland. 2 in our party had the carne asada burrito which had good flavor but one had a bone in it, not expected at all. The last 2 in group had carne asada tacos and shrimp fajitas, only complaint was that the onions and peppers in the fajita weren't grilled down enough, but shrimps flavor was good. My only real issue would be with the chips, they were hard and appeared to rationed, we only had what appeared to be 10 chips for a party of 5, and we were hungry! This place was such a pleasant surprise! We were out shopping and were desperate for some happy hour nachos so we stopped in not knowing anything about the place. There was ample parking and plenty of seating for us to walk in without a reservation. The service was great and the food was awesome! The nachos had very tender steak with excellent seasoning. The grilled salmon was cooked perfectly; the ideal medium center with crispy outside. And guys, the biggest bonus is the soup/salad/dessert bar that comes with every entree! There were several salads, delicious pozole, and even fried plantains; delicious! Finally, it was Friday so they had a live band. We met with friends here for dinner last Sunday. We were the only party there. At dinner time. On a Sunday. The full order of chips had about 5 chips in it, served on a pretentious soapstone type flat board. I suppose they're going for "elevated upscale". We had a party of six so I specified we would like a large serving of chips, which they did oblige. They only had one option (one) for the person in our party who is vegetarian (and has no issues at all the other Mexican restaurants in town: salads, sides, veggie chile relleno, etc). Our friends are from Mexico City and we're not impressed with their entrees. The "tacos" were served in the tiniest tortillas I ever saw (silver dollar?), and the pork was mostly gelatinous blubber. The plate of four tiny tacos was more of an appetizer. I had the salmon on a bed of risotto, and although an odd choice at a Mexican restaurant, I must admit it was exceedingly *delicious* and portioned just right. I wish we'd had a better experience, as this place is super close to our house and the decor and view are beautiful. Some times you want a nicer place than good ol' Chuy's, and I was hoping this would be it...similar to Manuel's or the old Z Tejas, or Iron Cactus in their glory days. I had the worse experience here ! First let's talk about how we had a reservation at 8 and got seated at almost 9 . The whole party was there. In the lobby waiting ...... we made the reservation 2weeks before . I think they had more than enough time to properly plan. Things happen we all know that . But It would of been to get updates as we waited in the lobby , not just getting starred at by the host/manager because we were taking up space in the lobby . It's was 18 of us . That is why we called in advanced , as well as confirmed to our 40 min prior confirmation call that asadas them self did to us. Next we get orders taken , I ordered a steak , food comes and it's okay until a fly decides to land on my food and pretty much remained on my food . Keep in mind server never came to check and make sure that our food was okay. I obviously didn't eat it . Manager came (Franceli) and was notified of what occurred and only said "I'm sorry but did you try to swatting it away?" Like it directly landed in my steak ! And that's it she continued her convo with the Ithaca guest . ..... Next 30 min later the server comes and she ask if I would like a box for my un eaten steak ... I told her no , there was a fly In it . And she said in sorry takes my plate and walks away ..... at this point I'm over it ! I wasn't looking for a free meal , nor to be difficult as I myself work Industry. But like a steak is an expensive meal ... i still paid , and tipped on top of that , because again I wasn't looking for a free meal ! To start off with the most important thing the parking it's free there's lots of street lights around it and they're wheelchair accessible with double doors at the front ramp. Free parking beats everything, or at least downtown. All of the dishes come with the salad/fruit/soup bar at the front. There's lots of dessert choices there to choose from also. It looks like all the dishes are between 15 and $50, same as downtown, per person. I recommend coming for happy hour, even on a Friday, because it beats any other place I would go to in the the evening for happy hour. Our server Jesus did a great job explaining the menu to us being super friendly, very positive and on the ball with everything we could need. They are pet friendly on the patio in the back corner so I would say arrive early if you're bringing your pet for a happy hour or a weekend brunch. the next time I come, it's going to be for brunch on the weekend. Just slap us surprised and delighted!!! Full disclosure too...we're foodies from downtown (I know...tragedy) but we've also been in Austin 20+ years and tonight's experience was such a happy surprise. Immediately upon entering, the staff were so welcoming and made us feel glad to be coming in. We chose a table out on the patio and it was the absolutely perfect choice! The scenery is so much lovelier than RR staples - took a picture legit so I could share here! Now the food and drink cuz I mean...that's what REALLY matters!! We are margarita snobs. Figured I'd get that out there. Don't come near our glasses with sour mix or triple sec. We absolutely never find a restaurant north (or hey, even most downtown) that gets it right, off the menu even, the first time This place? Perfect result with the skinny right off the menu. Second order replaced tequila with Mezcal and again...fabulous. This alone would be reason for people like us to come back. Ordered ceviche and guacamole for apps and generous portions of deliciously prepared, truly authentic fresh food. We just got back from Mexico last week, so when I tell you I was nervous about ordering fresh ceviche in Austin, I mean it! Soooooo good. Incredible service too...such an engaged staff, I thought it might be staged. Our favorites were the triple enchiladas (holy mole, y'all!) and the beef fajitas...tender, juicy and plenty of red peppers and onions like we love. All I can say is we'll be back like nobody's business because for a place to knock it out of the park after being open for only two months (yes, we asked). I was beyond disappointed in this dining experience for multiple reasons. 1) being one of the only families in the restaurant, you'd expect our waitress to check on us frequently. That was not the case at Asadas. We had to ask multiple times for our server. Additionally, I asked for a drink which was clearly on the menu, and I even asked the waitress where it was. I then proceeded to wait as we were served our food, another waiter coming out to clarify what I got to drink... they didn't even have that. 2) the portions to price ratio was somewhat bizarre for a restaurant on the outskirts of North Austin. Although the portions were smaller than average, we also got a free curly hair to-go! Thanks Asadas! 3) after all of that, would you expect a 20% tip? Looks like Asadas already did! Good assortment of flavors, very soft texture. $29.95 (3.5/5) - Panela a Sada: grilled cheese with a blend of olive oil and herbs. Interesting texture, that has it slightly crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside. Pretty good! $9.99 (3.75/5) - Corn: a good side dish to complement whatever you get. Can't go wrong! (3.75/5) - El Jefe: their signature margarita with flavors of orange juice, lime juice, and agave syrup. Great flavor, great portion, and quite strong. $10 (4/5) - Strawberry Margarita: nothing special about this one, but still great (4/5) Overall, the food was good, but nothing here particularly stood out to me and the prices can be a bit steep. Geez did I get fooled by this place what a scam with the all you can eat buffet... I gave it a shot and tried a little bit of everything, and it all fell short with taste. Zero seasoning in the meat dishes, refried been had no flavor. Menudo was the same way no flavor. I really wanted to like this place since it was recommended to us for mother's day. The staff did effectively take care of us and the buffet space to small for the crowd of people. Clean dishes were hard to come by, so I made the best with the one and only dish I could get. $119 dollars later I was so so disappointed. I won't be going back to this place. I love this place! I frequented this restaurant and became very established with the employees and staff there because of how friendly everyone is. When they first opened they did have some issues with staff that needed training on professionalism and with dealing with the public but they quickly remedied it. I have never tried anything on the menu that I did not like. The meat is always tender and cooked exactly they way I like it. The atmosphere is fun and always clean. BE CAREFUL DINING HERE. I've dined at Asada's Grill before and have had a great experience, I especially enjoy their margaritas. My family of 8 was in town on a Sunday evening, and they wanted some good Mexican food, so I recommended this place. The first red flag was that the chicken in the chicken burgers was pinkish. Our server was nice enough to not charge us for one chicken burger, the other one my mom just said forget about it. The following day 3 of us woke up with food poisoning. The baby from eating mac & cheese, me from eating the fish tostada, and my mom from the pink chicken burger. Cross contamination, food not being cooked all the way, or not stored properly? I came here the following day and spoke to the manager on site Brandon Garcia, to see if there was a compensation, like a gift card, he could give us. Because I miss work and stay at home the whole day due to the food poisoning. He said because it was only the three of us customers that mention about the food poisoning, that they couldn't do anything. Maybe those other few customers who were dining don't have the flexibility like me to come in on a Monday and advise about their food poisoning? Nonetheless, Brandon said there was nothing he could do about it. I would've been satisfied with something as small as a $25 gift card for my next Margarita fix, but all he could offer was to write down my name and phone number in case anybody else complains, they would reach out to me. This place is a gem! Our waiter, Marcos was excellent and very knowledgeable on all of the dishes we inquired about and recommended great drink choices. We came during happy hour and took advantage of the fresh salad bar. Great variety! The steak fajitas were so juicy that they melted before I was able to chew. Omg. We have a winner. Asadas Grill has a good ambiance, restaurant and bar were nice - went on a Sunday for brunch, the waiter really emphasized how good the Brunch buffet was - the salad bar was great, there was a vast variety of hot food, however most of it was cold and the bread/dessert table had gnats and flies - the staff wasn't maintaining the quality, the tortillas were cold/hard as well. Sorry but it was not a $60 brunch, items that we were told were on the buffet like tres leches and carnitas were not on the table. This was my first time going, I will definitely give it another try in a few weeks to see Brunch has improved. read more

It's been about three months since our last visit here and we decided to come in for an early dinner on Sunday. They were seating everybody inside and the patio was empty. After a few minutes you'll be given a small plate of chips and a dab of bean dip along with 1 ounce of salsa complimentary. The problem is, these chips taste cheap and are not very authentic. The queso is advertised as queso Fresca but it comes off more as Velveeta, and no jalapeños?! Our waitress was fairly attentive but we did have to wave her down. If I had to sum up all of my fellow yelpers, you'll find that the food is OK, but not great, but the drinks are really good. I have to admit, the frozen margaritas made up for the less quality food items. I think it's fair to say that if they ever water down the drinks they'll be out of business. The one thing that cost them a star is the fact that they charge you for using a credit card and you'll notice it at the bottom of the receipt such as the one I have pictured in 2nd review. Although, you can see it on the receipt in my first review. In conclusion, the drinks will definitely have me coming back,........ the food maybe not so much, there's better tex mex in the area. read more

No more Zed's. The upscale-ish, happy hour / date-night vibe is gone. Asadas seems to be hanging onto that cool Zed's vibe, but the beautiful setting, awesome patio with live Tejano music, and ambitious menus don't seem to mesh with some of the cheesy touches, hit-or-miss service, and very-kid-friendly atmosphere. They are still a little new and everything about it is just not cohesive yet. For example, the menu has a lot of wow-factor, but you can tell where they are cutting corners (like with those awful cardboard-like tortilla chips and the frozen key lime pie being passed off as a Margarita pie.) Another example: the Huachinango al Ajo. A lot of pride goes into cooking it, but the presentation ruins it--served on old wood boards (mine was warped and missing the metal handle), with sad rice and plain spring mix. The Lado Bar for $8.95 seems like something that would be great if you're just there for drinks and nibbles, but it is included with most(?) meals. Therefore, it's almost always picked over and bare. Maybe it should be a standalone menu item. Another cheese factor example: the "El Jarro". It's supposed to be a fun, giant drink for four people, mixed at your table in a large clay container. Really...it's just tacky as can be. It reminds me of those 1/2-gallon drinks at Razzoo's, but at least those are over-the-top hilarious with beads and alligators and whatnot. El Jarron is like drinking out of a bucket from a backyard shed. I'm honestly on the fence with Asadas restaurant and I do plan on returning, but for now just three stars. read more

The enchilada plate was $20 for only two enchiladas. Rice and beans didn't come with it, although some were brought to us when requested. We waited forever and the waiter said it was because of my husbands fish tacos.... So in turn my food must have been sitting there while they were waiting for his food. So the whole dinner was one I would not return for.... But the Tres Leches cake was awesome!!!! We went for the first day of their new menu, so I want to give them grace, but it was pretty disappointing. The menu was very limited (no beef or fish tacos), and they were out of the chicken tacos. They had octopus tacos but not fish? Just odd honestly, I don't think they're catering to the right audience for a suburb Mexican restaurant. The chicken & shrimp tacos are both fried and I was told it's not possible to get them grilled. We got beef fajitas, shrimp tacos, and 2 margs for a total of $90. We were absolutely shocked when the bill came. Especially considering there were 5 small strips of beef & 4 shrimp for our entrees. Not to mention the chips and salsa they serve is literally with 4 chips (I'm not exaggerating) and a few drops of salsa. Really odd - whoever is in charge of the food amounts seems extremely stingy and it's very obvious. Also just a small pet peeve of mine that they left the shrimp tails on inside the taco. I feel bad for the place because they're clearly struggling. We were there on a Friday night and there were only 2 or 3 other tables filled. On a positive note, the waiter was extremely nice and they have a fantastic shaded patio. They desperately need to add cheaper options to their menu & put more food on the plate for the expensive stuff. Have some a la carte, simple, beef/chicken/fish tacos at least!
