Blink and you may miss this spot! I noticed it as I was driving and decided to check it out. It is located in a strip mall. Small and clean space. As I entered I was greeted kindly by Abbas. He mentioned that people often comment that they did not know his cafe was located there. I am letting you know it is there and worth a stop . I can tell he puts love in his work. The display cases were filled with delectable pastries. I sampled a few and it's a perfect balance of sweetness. I was excited to find the Dubai chocolate bar there and bought some for gifts. The first time I purchased baklava from them, I felt like the ones I was given lacked its freshness and it was so hard, even after trying to warm it up a little. I thought maybe it was just the timing or fluke when I purchased them that I received what I felt was somewhat old baklavas, so I tried another time months later to purchase since I love baklavas. Same issue:( The baklavas I was given were really hard and did not taste so fresh. Especially given they are not so affordable, I was disappointed that the quality and taste of their baklava did not measure up to the baklavas I've had at other places. read more

After working from home and being the chef for the entire week cooking for my hard working collegiate kids, I decided it was time to take a day off from cooking and go out to grab a bite to eat. I told my daughter to get prepared, get the dog ready and so off we went. I was meaning to visit Adam King of Shawarma probably for about a year and a half now since moving into the area but I was just too busy until now. The visit and experience tonight was well worth it. I decided to get a simple meal of Shawarma wraps to eat for this rainy Friday evening. I didn't want to over-indulge during this visit like I do most of the time so I kept my composure this time around since trying new things is my nature. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and we had a very interesting chat. The first thing that Mr. Abu told me was that he appreciated me coming over to his store in spite of the rainy weather and I told him in return that I was so glad to have the opportunity to finally make it tonight and try out his food. After our chat, Mr. Abu went off to the kitchen to work his magic and prepare our meals. After a short wait (20 min or so) I was taken back when he approached the counter and told me he was giving me some extra meat and then had me hold the bag in the palm of my hand to feel the weight. I was totally caught off guard of his generosity. I mentioned to him that others said how the owner was so kind and gave generous portions and my experience tonight justified this. As we spoke while walking towards the door, he told me that life was too short; it's better to give than to receive. I later learned that the store is actually named after his son, Adam, and I could tell the look in his eyes that he must be very proud of him. When we got home, my daughter, I and our dog couldn't believe our eyes when we unwrapped the surprise inside; humongous Shawarma wraps. Such a generous gesture from a genuine human being. The meat was tender and flavorful, not salty or bland. Adam garlic sauce provided the balance in the taste and the wrap was delicious and kept everything intact after every bite. I was about to eat the entire thing but decided to cut it in half and eat the other half for lunch the next day. I'm very glad that I finally made it and also meet a new friend. I can't wait to come back and try their other foods especially on the bakery side. Tonight was a very positive experience for all of us indeed!! read more

I love a good shawarma. It's been a while too since I had one. My only real knock on this place was the absence of a proper menu. However now that I know what I want I doubt I'll stray. I got the beef shawarma wrap. You don't often see beef shawarma and I think I know why. The beef was sliced thin and very well seasoned. Almost too much so. Definitely packed with flavor. I fear lamb would almost be too bold. I think when I come back I'll get chicken. The inside ingredients were fresh and I don't know if this accurately describes, but cut in a fashion that is conducive to a wrap. I hate tomatoes. So the absence of a menu didn't warn me of them so I had to do a little picking but such has been my life. I love the garlic sauce. Often, actually literally every other shawarma I've had, the sauce is too strong and overpowers or gets old on the palate. This sauce was perfect. Good portion of food too. Adam (I assume it was Adam the Shawarma king) pointed out some desserts for me too. The maamools are like filled shortbread cookies. A little dry but probably would be delightful with a cup of tea. Which is how I intend to eat my remaining ones tomorrow. King of the shawarma for sure!! read more

Great, convenient location, manned by a friendly & helpful individual (owner???). So why 1 star? He used to carry a variety of delicious, light, unusual desserts. Last couple of visits all he had were thick, floury Maamools, overly sweet coocos and overpriced, typical non-refrigerated baklava. When asked about previous selection I was informed that due to need for refrigeration, he no longer carried those. Having owned 2 successful retail businesses, preceded by half a dozen failed ones, I know a fundamental retail lesson: give the customer what they want/like (within reason), not what's convenient for you. With this continued attitude Arz is on its way out of business, which is unfortunate, as the owner is a delightful individual. read more

So delicious I had to leave a review! We came in to try the Dubai chocolates but left with a trio of baklava, mamool, and semolina cake. Surprisingly loved the semolina cake. It's very rich and sweet so enjoy it slowly with strong tea or coffee. Pistachio Baklava is my absolute favorite...meant to eat it slowly over the next week but it was finished within a day. I love this cafe!! Has the best "dubai chocolate". The baklava milkshake is so yummy. The owner is so kind. He always goes above and beyond when we come in. He was super accommodating to our allergies. He even offered to clean and make us something before they opened so it would have no way of cross contamination. The owner is such a kind man and I have visited this store numerous times because his food & baked goods are delicious. I drive from Oregon City to come here.. Depending on traffic, it takes me 35-50 minutes to get here. I am writing this review because this is now the second time I have driven to this location during his open hours, stated on google: "10:00 -6:00"), and it being closed. I get here during the times they are supposed to be open and the lights are completely off, the door is locked & a tiny sticky note states they won't be back till around 2... Very, very good and so close to home. Adam King of Shawarma & Gyro is in a little strip mall off Murray and Allen. Plenty of parking out front which is good since we opted to do curbside pickup. The online menu needs some work but all the usual's are there: gyros, kabobs, shawarmas, falafels, hummus, manakeesh, French fries, baklava (one even sugar free), etc. There is even a chicken corn dog on the menu for the kiddlings I assume. I had the kabob platter: one each beef, chicken and lamb kabob over rice with a nice green side salad. It was excellent as well as enough for three meals! We also ordered the chicken shawarma platter ($15) that was amazing. Everything was freshly made and delicious. Definitely will order again. I heard Adam used to have a downtown food cart and this place is a nice addition to our neighborhood eateries. Looking forward to going again and eating inside some day. read more

Great name and great wraps. They are the size of a burrito and big enough to share. I have tried both the beef and the kefta. The wraps are grilled and wrapped tight. They hold up and are not a mess to eat. They have a few tables inside and sell desserts and pickled veggies also. read more

Abou Adam went above and beyond to feed us, he was extremely warm, kind and generous while we ordered excitedly. We got two sandwiches, a rice bowl, spicy fried chicken, French-fries and beef+cheese samboosa. We also got two packs of desserts! One pack of pistachio baklawa and a pack of moist and sweet semolina cake. All for takeaway! Everything is beautifully seasoned, the fried chicken crunchy, juicy and tasty and the pastry was mind-blowingly flakey. Must-try for authentic Lebanese Levantine cuisine! Always on the lookout for great Middle Eastern food, I was directed to ADAM KING OF SHAWARMA & GYRO by my trusty Yelp app. We were welcomed in by the owner, Abu Adam. After perusing their menu board, I ordered a Chicken Shawarma Wrap...I figured that a place that has"Shawarma" in its name must really know how to make it right. I noticed on the menu that their wraps have fries in them, and I asked Adam if he could leave the fries out (since I'm 'theoretically' watching my carbs). He was glad to oblige and he not only left the fries out, but put in some extra chicken instead. Yay! My wrap was savory and delicious...the chicken shawarma was seasoned and sauced just right. Also, the wrap was nicely grilled brown on the outside which gave it a satisfying crunch when I bit into it. The person I was with ordered a Lamb Gyro Wrap and she was super satisfied with her meal too. Also, let me mention that these wraps were huge as well. This place is a bakery too, so of course we tried some of their dessert pastries. We had Baklava and a Maamool, which is cookie filled with different ingredients. I had never heard of Maamool before and it was fun to try it. I chose one that was date-filled. It was all good! LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! We just moved to Beaverton, OR and a colleague of mine recommended Adam's and we tried it for the first time last week. We ordered the lamb gyro, lamb plate, beef samboosa and a few cookies - every single thing was warm, fresh and absolutely amazing! With 69 reviews and a 5 star rating, I was really hoping to satisfy my gyro/Mediterranean craving. Tried it out for a late lunch/early dinner and the place was a ghost town. The place was replete of pastries though, and was looking forward to trying them out. The owner was there by himself at this in between time, which was fine, he seemed friendly enough, given his demeanor gave off a slightly nervous or standoffish energy. I really wanted a traditional Greek style gyro, but decided on trying his lamb plate with a pita on the side, but I also wanted fries, so I went for the wing and fries combo. Yes a lot of food, but I figured something to take home. I hadn't eaten all day so I was hungry. My wife had a hummus with chicken and a taboule salad. It was nice out so we sat out front. The McMenimans next door was popping. Unfortunately somebody (CA license plates) was sleeping in a Lexus right out front with the engine running the whole time. Truly annoying. Nobody's fault but the guy in the drivers seat, napping away. The order came out to $70+ before tip. It was $20 for 6 wings and some crinkle fries. We were a little aghast, but I figured it's just money, maybe it'll be amazing, I mean the guy has almost 5 stars. Not all reviews or stars are equal. He brought the food and then asked if we wanted garlic sauce. He charges $4 for a side. Like he was doing us a favor, since the lamb plate shows that it comes with. The pita which was cut in four like for dipping, it was in plastic wrap which was heat shrunk. I asked if he had microwaved it cause it was rubbery and getting hard. I asked why he didn't lay it on the griddle to heat up? All his signage at the register alluded to using cash so he wouldn't have to raise his prices. Man alive, his prices were not shown on his above counter menu and were outrageously high as it was. Needless to say while the wings were tasty, and the chicken taste fine, this was NOT a 5 star review kind of place. I felt badly, but also kind of irritated when I went in and asked for a to go container. FOAM...NO NO. He struggled to give me a couple containers after spending $80+ with tip. C'mon. At that point being the ONLY people the whole time releasing some Togo stuff should've come with a big thank you. Needless to say, no dessert and we won't be back.
