Art and his amazing team updated our pool about 9-years-ago, so when it came time to redo our backyard, we came back to Art in 2020. They did such a fantastic job on everything! They tore up all of our old concrete and laid beautiful stamped concrete, they redid the entire pool with mini pebbles and new coping and a new fancy light, and they corrected all of our major drainage issues. I think it's disconcerting that Yelp plays a big role in my choosing to go with Art for my pool replastering. In my opinion these glowing reviews can also do disservice to the potential customers and I wanted to chime in with my own experience so that potential customers can do more homework for themselves before deciding to go with Art. I will try to be as fair as I can with my recent experience: PROS: - Competitive price, but not by much. Could end up costing you more later on because of the poor workmanship or addt'l add-ons from not him being thorough in initial write-up - Seemed like a nIce guy. That was my impression when I first met him. CONS: - Delay after delay (He takes on more jobs than he can -again because of the good yelpers' reviews - thus, causing delays and a lot of no-shows on the days the crew's supposed to come and do certain jobs) --- What he fails to understand is, yes, it's good to have a lot of jobs but you still have to live up to your WORD when you give your promise of completion date if not please let customers aware of the situations and hiccups - Poor communication ( little does he consider's customer's valuable times for his failure to show up on the days that certain jobs are supposed to be done and he wouldn't contact you that there will be no show) - Poor workmanship ( because he is hardly at the site to supervise or see if job is done properly, not only when you are in the area or pick up the check) - Unprofessional ( One of his trusted crew members told me that they will perform certain job although I wasn't aware whether it was part of the contract - when I asked Art about it, he YELLED at me and told me that I shouldn't listen to his people he sent to my house. How can you not take accountability for you crew. Why even send them to my house if I cannot trust his people. A professional business person would handle in a such away that " I am sorry it's not on the contract but we'll see what we can do, either we will give you discount for the job or etc....). AGAIN HE YELLED AT ME ON THE PHONE AND TOLD ME THAT CONVERSATION IS OVER BECAUSE HE IS BUSY. Really? I was a very accommodating customer throughout the whole process, worked with him, gave him the installment check whenever he asked. Now my pool is done. But how can I even enjoy it because of such experience I endured? Having said all that I still think he is nice guy when he not busy. I just want him to see his shortfalls so that he can better serve himself and his customers. Don't take on the job more than you can handle. read more

What is it with contractors and pool plaster companies that make it so difficult to come across one that you feel you can trust? I wanted to remodel our pool 2 years ago and for the life of me couldn't find a company that I felt would live up to expectations. If you do any research on the big boys, you come across some of the worst reviews imaginable. There is one big company right in my neck of the woods that still has a decent rating but while my neighbor used them and were happy, my grandmother went with them and they totally dropped the ball. Thought I had another good one lined up with another major company but my other neighbor used them and told us to stay away from them like the plague. So what do you do when all the major ones are iffy and then you start to check out the smaller ones that have decent reviews but might not have much history? Many of them are simply pool maintenance people that will delve into plaster and remodel but probably don't have adequate insurance (might have liability but not workman comp). I guess the only thing to do is to keep looking and hope to find something. And that is what I did as we really needed to get our pool fixed this year. So it was with much research that I happened to come across Art's Pool Plastering. I was surprised that I hadn't heard of him before since he is rather close to my area. And he had excellent reviews on Yelp and Yellow Pages. Even with that I was still a little leery but after my first meeting with him, I got a good sense right away as he seemed very knowledgeable as well as friendly yet direct. Apparently his forte is to build pools which also left a lasting impression on me as I figured he must know what he's doing on a remodel. And his pricing was good. Not the cheapest but far from the most expensive. Our remodel included an 8 foot tall rock structure that includes a slide and waterfall. Also did matching rock coping down below the waterline. This project was handled by Art's rock crew and they handled the majority of the work on our pool. Art estimated that it would take 3 and a half weeks and that is exactly how long it took. His crew was pretty incredible and they really know what they're doing. The end result is that the slide and waterfall are better than I could have hoped for. I also got a new heater and salt generator as well as color LED lights. It's too early to try the heater and salt generator but I can tell you the lights are pretty awesome. I know many pools like mine go with pebble but for some reason I still wanted to simply do white plaster as I've always liked that clean look. It was Art's suggestion that I go with grey plaster and I can tell you that was a great call as the water is a very nice shade of blue and make the pool look more like a lagoon. All in all, I give Art an A plus on this one. He nailed everything that we set out to do. While he wasn't at our site most of the time (no need as his rock crew handled most of it and his right hand man David really knows what he's doing) he was there when he needed to be and I can say whenever I called his cell he almost always picked up or at the least he called me right away. Our house had a pool built in the 70's and the previous owner was too cheap to ever replaster the pool. We had a ridiculous colony of black algae and several layers of old pool paint flaking and clouding in our pool. Gross would be an understatement, we had a mini swamp in our backyard. It was time to replaster, retile, and revamp our pool equipment. I've been burned by contractors in the past so I'm always extremely cautious when dealing with contractors of any type. I took quotes from six different contractors and decided to go with Art. First off, Art beat all the other bids by a mile. As far as being knowledgable, he was able to identify some structural issues with our current pool layout that was causing the spillway tiles to crack and crumble, something the other guys didn't care to notice. I got a very good vibe when I met with Art, he was geniunely service oriented and a totally humble guy. He did a great job with my replaster, retile, remodel, and equipment installation and overall I am a very happy customer. Here's how I break down my review - Price: 5 stars. Nobody even came close to Art's bid (same plaster, same tile, etc). - Timeliness: 5 stars. Got it done quick - Workmanship: 4 stars. Overall very nice, but some of the work was rushed and some of the attention to smaller details could have been better. - Expertise: 5 stars. Art really knows his stuff when it comes to pools (city codes, structural issues, etc). - Service: 5 stars: This is where Art shines. Communication was frequent and he was always checking with me to make sure I was happy. The work wasn't always perfect first time around, but he always came in to make sure things were right. He's a busy guy and has lots of projects ongoing, but he always made time to call or text me back right away. Since the actual project completed he has been very receptive to my rather frequent questions and has really made me a happy customer with excellent his after service. Overall: 5 stars. True it wasn't absolutely perfect. I'm sure if I spent twice as much I could have ended up with something just a little bit nicer. I first came across Art about 3 years ago when I was in charge of doing a pool for the condo building I live in. This was a commercial property and the pool had lots of problems including it was leaking. Art's team did a great job and the pool looks great to this day. The saying "The Devil is in the Details" describes our major pool/spa remodel by Art's Pool. They started our job six months ago. We now have an eight sided jacuzzi with only seven jets, a complete line of sprinklers that don't work, unfinished pool spillways, unfinished and unsealed concrete decking, shoddy unprofessional wiring to our new state of the art Pentair controller, a Pentair wireless controller that doesn't work, stains on the pool plaster, step lights that flicker, a gate that won't close properly and damaged stucco walls. Art assured me he would take care of these things when he collected my final payment. I trusted he would stand by his work and his word. Now, months later I am tired of waiting. Early in July he promised he would send his workers the second week of the month as everyone was wanting their pools for the 4th of July. I waited patiently all week, then tried to call him but now his phone goes to a recording where the message box is full! I chose Art's pool largely due to the good Yelp reviews. I will say I thought Art was pleasant and the workers were nice, but no one oversees and manages their work. If you do decide to use Art's Pool I suggest you first go to contracting school then watch over every single detail managing all the work as it is being done. I had my pool plastering and tile done . I am satisfied with the job performed. The one thing I would have liked is for Art to come and oversee the work being done and to check in more with me for answers to any questions I had. A year later after Art completed work in our pool and now we are being told that our pool pump is only operating 70% because the pipes that go into pump were installed wrong they fixed it but they never installed the filters correctly di now we have ti cash out 170 for new ones and they also did the plumbing incorrectly for the water they flies into pool. Art, the owner, was at the site daily!! Yes, we has involved throughout the built. Art, guided me on how to get the permits for the built and explained ways on how to be cost effective. I purchased my house over twenty-eight years ago, and the pool was about 3 years old when I moved in. So all in all, the plaster on the pool was over thirty years old. It wasn't horrible but there were definitely areas around the spa and in the pool where the plaster had shown its age. I got a quote about six years ago and found out how expensive it was to re-plaster and tile. We decided to hold off until we could better afford it. Our pool is larger than average and requires about 3 times more tile than average because it has three steps to where the diving board is. We decided to bite the bullet and get it done this summer. I called several of these contractors that send fliers in the mail with their specials for $4,999.00 for re-plaster of a pool that is 80 lineal feet. Well the problem is that our pool and spa was over 130 lineal feet and the price they quoted did not include any tile. I started searching the web and found Art's Pool Plastering and read all the great reviews. I called him and his son Art Jr. was here the next day to do the measuring. I told Art Jr. that we were on a budget and he said he would talk to his dad and see what they could do for us. All I can tell you is that his price was within our budget and a lot less than his competitors. The people that did the work were all very professional and the work was done in a timely manner.
