Awesome experience. Artistic framing is the place for you if you have a discerning eye. They were extremely helpful and patient as I was looking for just the right combination of matting and frame. Extensively explored many options with me. They have a perfect display wall set up for visualization. Provided guidance and suggestions but respected my opinion and didn't push theirs. Very personable as well. I'd go back for future framing needs. read more

Artistic picture framing did an amazing job! I brought in two small pieces - one was an old photo and another was a poster - and they were a huge help in figuring out what frames and mats would accent the photo best! They helped me find multiple different options and discussed some of the pros and cons with me (I'm new to getting things framed so that was very helpful!) Will definitely be coming back for future framing needs :) read more

The proprietor is an artist among framers. He has a great eye and loads of experience and can quickly identify frames that will make your piece sing. He's also really interested to learn about your tastes and what you want your art to say and do -- where will you hang it, what kind of mood do you want it to evoke. The results are always very high quality and really do add to the artwork or documents that you're framing. Highly recommended. read more

Excellent service and high quality work. I would come here again for future framing needs.

I was really amazed at the thoughtful, careful and skilled approach Artistic took to my project. I came in with a vague idea for framing some old newsprint, and Rodolfo quickly put me on the right track. A few weeks later, the results I got were fabulous. If the need arises again, I'll be back. read more

Fun experience when picking out frames. The owner got jokes so he really made it an experience. We ended up picking out some really nice frames for the art I wanted framed. It blew my budget but the look on my wife's face was priceless. Plus the framed art looks great on my walls and get allot of compliments. If you are serious about taking you art to the next level, this is the place. Thank you! read more

I spend a lot more than I intended too, I was only going to get a mat and then frame the piece myself. I am happy that I listened to Rodolfo and spent the money on this piece. I have a 1900 piece of sheet music lithograph, titled "Turn of the Century," that I decided I wanted to frame after I saw a Groupon for a pretty good discount. I have nothing on my walls that I even thought this piece would work with, but I really liked it and took it to them. I worked with the framer; I hemmed and hawed, but finally decided on a mat color and a frame that again did not seem to go with anything I have, however, it made the litho sing. Unlike the yelpers who thought that conservation glass was pushed on them, I asked for that glass, I didn't want the still bright 112 year old piece to fade. Up until I walked in to the store to pick up the finished product I was sure we chose the wrong frame and mat color. I was wrong! The piece looked great, and when I took it home I hung near my most abstract paint on canvas piece and it works read more

I came in to Artistic Picture Framing unsure of what I wanted. I was initially apprehensive about getting custom framing, but Rodolfo was extremely patient and knowledgeable, and was willing to spend a bunch of time explaining what was possible with his frames, and showed such craftsmanship and pride in his work. I can't recommend Artistic Picture Framing any more highly. read more

Rodolfo is fantastic. We had a large canvas painting (6' x 6') stretched and framed. He helped us the pick the frame that came out stunningly beautiful. All of our guests are very impressed by the painting and the exceptional work done by Artistic Framing. We subsequently got 3 smaller paintings framed which were also very well done. read more

15 of 5 stars reviews? Really? Were they reviews from your relatives and buddies? My girlfriend took a 29"X40" size poster and an existing frame and mat to "Artistic Expert Picture Framing." All I wanted was for them to cut the mat and I'd do the rest, but they insisted they couldn't do that and had to do more. They wanted to mount the poster and install a backing and the wire too. Fine. It took a month for them to do the work ... and more than $80. But this was not the biggest issue. Here the worst of it: once we finally had the poster back home, we hung it over our bed. After a few weeks, I had the stunning surprise to have the frame fall from the wall inches from my head--while I was sleeping! My girlfriend came running from the other room to see what happened. Luckily the frame slipped between the wall and the bed! Otherwise I would have been seriously injured. When I turned over the frame and looked inside the torn dust paper to see what had happened, I found that they'd placed the screws so they didn't actually go into the frame--they were right at the edge, and they split the frame on the inside. I have several pictures to prove it. I'm shocked the poster didn't fall earlier. So, now I have a busted frame and almost a busted head, and I'm taking care of this myself... Will I ever go to the place again? Nooooope. And I will tell all my friends about the event. Too bad I cannot rate them a quarter of a star. Update on 4/23/11: The owner contacted me and agreed to a refund, and also doesn't plan to accept work in the future that uses third party frames. A fair response and I'm fine to leave things here at even. read more

There's no doubt that Rodolfo is a man of experience with over 30 years of framing under his belt. He's an artist with exquisite taste - going above and beyond the call of duty to deliver on the highest quality work. My friend and I came in to obtain a temporary frame, and despite knowing we were going to replace it, Rodolfo still goes great lengths to do the job properly, sparing no expense. The finished product is absolutely exquisite. Should I ever need any type of framing job in the future, Rodolfo is the man read more

At least ten stars here! When I came to Artistic Picture Framing with two yellowed, aged photos of my maternal great-grandparents (and with my mother's handwriting on the opposite sides), I hesitated to leave them. Rodolfo gave me his full attention and a range of options, and made the perfect suggestions--a frame that calls attention to the photos and a double-sided matte--something that never would have occurred to me. Rodolfo is not "just" a master craftsman. He was exceptionally warm and patient with me and seemed to care deeply about his art and his work. The final framed images are a treasure. What I came away with is something I will be honored to hand down to my family. Thank you so much, Rodolfo! read more

Could not say more about the professionalism, care, and value of this place. There are many framing places in Berkeley; I am so glad I found this one. The owner is generous, kind, and very knowledgable. If you want to have your piece framed with love and care, look no farther. I will come back for any framing needs I have, even though I don't live in Berkeley. It is worth the drive. read more

During a trip to Kenya a few years back, I became friends with an artist named Omosh Kindeh. Omosh painted sprawling cityscapes, inspired by life in his neighborhood on the east side of Nairobi. I loved the scale of his work, the colors, and the fact that they reminded me of the first Tribe album. We became friends, and in early-2015, he began working on a painting for me. Sadly, just a few months later, Omosh suddenly passed away. He was only 34. The painting was never finished. In February, I finally brought the piece home. It was in rough shape. After nearly being confiscated at Jomo Kenyatta International, it had been rolled up and stored under a spare bed for over a year. It was really important for me to get the painting properly re-stretched and framed. I wanted to preserve it as best as possible. That's how I ended up at Artistic Picture Framing. Rodolfo and his team were fantastic. Rodolfo immediately understood why I wanted to take care of this work. He picked out the perfect frame, a sort of brushed bronze with a touch of green (check out the picture) that perfectly matched the tone of the painting and the story behind the work. We picked a float frame because Omosh mentioned that he liked those the best. To be honest, I spent a lot of money on this project. Much more than I thought I could afford on my student budget. But I have no regrets at all. It was a big job (2m x 1.4m) and totally worth it. I am very happy with the final product. These dudes are awesome and truly love their work. Highly recommend. read more

Rodolfo was intuitively creative in ideas for framing my original drawing. He took time to carefully examine the art work and come up with framing and matting which totally captured the essence of the piece. Although the total job was a tad expensive, the end result was well worth it. He had captured the spirit of the piece and its humor. The final framed image was a gift and was wonderfully and enthusiastically received! read more

I couldn't be happier with the good advice and outcome of every piece!

Brought in some art to frame with a pretty clear idea of what I wanted. I pointed out the color I wanted to match and Rodolfo pulled out the perfect frame immediately from a wall full of them. He also pointed out at a glance that the image wasn't centered on the paper, something I hadn't even noticed. They did a lovely job, and clearly know both their craft and their frame and mat selection really well. I'll definitely be going to them again! read more

If you want to preserve your art as a long lasting treasure, make an appointment with Rodolfo at Artistic Picture Framing! As a fun and insightful partner, Rodolfo has worked with me to choose the best presentations for art I've collected through my travels. He is always generous with his time and ideas, without ever being pushy. The shop has a very impressive collection of options for frames, matting, and glass, and some precut frames. One of the things I've found the most comfort in while spending almost all my time at home the last few months is looking at the beautifully framed art that surrounds me at home. Each piece is a treasure of color, shape and texture that bring vividness to my memories of the artists and adventures they represent, and keep me in touch with gratitude and beauty during these dark and challenging times! I'm so thankful to Rodolfo for helping me fill my home with these treasures! read more

This review is long overdue. Rodolfo has helped us turn our apartment into a museum quality art gallery. He has an artistic eye for framing and is able to complement the smallest details with his incredible frames. I find myself looking around for things to frame, because regardless of what I send to him, it comes back as artwork! Do you have a drawing from your child's preschool? Send it to these guys and they will present it in a way that makes it look like a real Jackson Pollock! I could not be happier with the friendly service, professional communication, and artistic vision that this team has. I highly recommend Artistic Picture Framing to everyone in need of framing. You will see the value in the service when the brown paper is removed from your newly framed artwork. Don't shy away because of the price. It's worth it for your new family heirloom. read more

I just wanted to let everyone know just how satisfied I am with Artistic Framing and it's owner Rodolfo -- a consummate, warm, and patient gentlemen who made this project so delightful. We had Artistic Framing stretch the canvas on our 5x5 ft commission, which arrived rolled up. They did a beautiful job stretching the piece but when it came to framing my wife and I were torn on a floating frame option. We bounced back and forth and Rodolfo traveled to pick up multiple samples so we can evaluate even more options. In the end we settled on a beautiful silver finished wood frame. Rodolfo delivered the piece to our house and mounted on the wall for us. We were so impressed and satisfied by the whole process, that we had Rodolfo frame yet another stretched canvas that we were not even planning on having framed. And of course this piece was also beautifully done. I also compared pricing from a couple other top notch framers in the Bay Area and Artistic Framing was extremely competitive. If you have a picture you need framed or canvas stretched, I highly recommend visiting Artistic Framing in Berkeley. I'm attaching some photos of their beautiful work. My wife and I couldn't be happier! read more

In an era where pre-fab and cookie-cutter goods from big box retailers abound, thank goodness that true craftsmen still exist. If it isn't important to you, buy a nice, premade frame at a retailer and be done with it. This is NOT where you get your posters or movie tickets framed- unless they are really precious to you and you want to present them that way. This is where you bring things that are SPECIAL. It might be original art, the diploma or license that is the heart of your profession, or the the awards you are most proud of achieving. This is where you bring things you love and they are treated with reverence and respect. I had a large project that needed repair. I brought to Rudolfo and got thorough, professional, efficient service from a craftsman. He has over 30 years experience and it shows. He knows exactly what needs to be done and does it. He is easy and graceful with these materials; having done this thousands of times doesn't diminish his passion or performance. He knows just the right tools, finishes, and technique to use. Based on this experience, (including the charges) I have several other items, precious enough to me, to be a good use of Rudolfo's time. By the way, pricing can be summed up like this: Steaks cost less at Sizzler than Ruth's Chris. If you are happy with Sizzler, by all means, go there. If you'd like a different quality, go where that happens. For outstanding quality craftsmanship, at an appropriate charge for that work, go to Rudolfo at Artistic Expert Picture Framing. read more
