My son visited Myanmar this year and brought back a painted wall hanging/textile from Myanmar. (His in-laws live there). I offered to find a place to get it framed. Upon my friend's (Toni M), suggestion, I went to Sticks on Solano Ave. The gentleman who assisted me was very nice and helpful. He picked out several different mats and frames for me to choose from. I decided to get museum glass to prevent reflection and fading of the textile. It usually takes about 3 weeks for them to finish the framing, but I got it back in 2. My son and his wife were very pleased with the completed project. I did find non-metered parking in front of their shop but I arrived around 15 min after they opened at 11 am. I was back at Sticks today to have a cartoon framed that touched me a couple of Sundays ago. It wasn't available framed, which wasn't a problem, but I see it is now. I found a parking space right in front of Squabish, which is right next door to Sticks. I walked in and Randy came down the stairs to help me. He took the cartoon from its package. I was pleased to see it was in color. We picked out a mat and a frame. I paid half the cost and Randy told me to expect it to be ready the second week in October. The last thing I had framed here was another cartoon, one in June which had struck me funny, a Wiley Miller cartoon about the ceremonial start of hurricane season. Does anyone get things framed anymore? Yes, there are a few things like special photographs, art, ketubahs, etc. that require escape from a jpeg file and onto a special place on the wall and in my heart. Sticks is one of the better places to make the right frame and mat decision. Such artistic combinations aren't always cheap, but considering the resulting quality and imagination, it's all a great value. read more

Just last week I brought in two pictures we purchased for my office that were damaged in transit from the artist. Sticks is not cheap, but they do a great job of framing your most prized art, photographs, and anything you deem worthy of framing. We had several Thangka paintings framed (Tibetan buddhist paintings), as well as a write up of our wedding in a magazine. Each was done exquisitely (with UV plexi-glass) and the owner will give you great suggestions and advice. He really knows what he's doing and when you get your piece, you will have no regrets. Sure, you'll pay several hundred for each frame, but it's worth every cent b/c you know your framed piece will last for years to come! read more

Excellent prices and consulting services ... they don't make fun of my art and do a good job of keeping me within my budget. I have been taking work to frame at Sticks since 1998. Over the years, this adds up to dozens and dozens of projects. These framers are extremely professional, they have a lot of experience (it shows), and they can tackle anything, such as build frames for oversized or finicky objects, not just 2d art. The friendly folks are not only experts in terms of framing techniques, but they also have an expert eye when it comes to suggesting frames. (They have an astonishing abundance of frames to choose from.) Importantly, they take every project seriously, whether it's my daughter's second grade drawing or an original Chagall, and it won't cost you an arm and a leg. I have been going to sticks for about 15 years. I have found them to be truely talented in helping me find the right matt and frame for my art work. When i look at their work when i have hung it on my walls, I always smile and i know i would never have thought or known of their choices on my own. They have been very accomodating and customer service oriented. And they are nice people to visit when you are passing by. It is truley a neighborhood store in the finest sense. I only wish i had more wall space- then i would be there more often. They have even helped me when i want to protect prints i have purchased but didn't want to go to the expense of framing them.
