I collaborated with Paul at Artistic Picture Framing (meaning Paul did all the work) on a special project framing my horse's award buckles from the 2018 Appaloosa Reining Horse Association World Show. We went with a sort of ruggedized shadow box style using glare-proof museum acrylic (that won't shatter like glass), and the end-result is beautiful and totally exceeded my expectations! Paul (who's such a nice guy and a pleasure to work with) listened carefully and then applied his creativity and skill to capture exactly the look I wanted...sort of rustic with an authentic Western feel. He chose the perfect colors and textures for the backing and frame to make the silver buckles really stand out. The craftsmanship is just exceptional, with each buckle perfectly aligned and very securely mounted (he put a lot of work into this), showing real precision, balance and a real sense of skill and pride. The overall result feels solid/sturdy and looks artful and clean. He even installed heavy-duty hardware so that I can mount it to my horse's stall. It was fun discussing the project with Paul. He wanted to understand the meaning and significance of of the pieces being framed up and the theme and look I wanted and he absolutely nailed it. Jess was extremely knowledgeable and offered all sorts of creative and stylish options (such as an arched window in one of the mats to match the art). She explained everything so I knew all the possible options. She was so courteous and helpful, constantly going the extra mile with little things like sending me a preview of how she was going to lay out a complex multi-window mat, giving me hanging hardware for one of their premade frames and putting framing tape on a poster frame I brought in. Rodolfo at Artistic Picture Framing is a joy to work with; so talented, warm, creative & helpful. First off, I had a piece that needed a little repair, but it's heavy, and I'm disabled. Rodolfo came to my house to pick it up, and delivered it back (along with my two new pieces) with a whole new frame! The other art that I brought in was tricky to frame in order to really bring out the balance in the colors without overwhelming the eye, or making them look monochromatic. Rodolfo has such skill in diving right in and suggesting various textures & colors for mats & frames. He is enthusiastic without being overbearing & also letting the customer know the price ranges of the materials they are looking at so there isn't sticker shock. He does not try and upsell and will work with in your budget. I am on a tight budget and I ended up with some spectacular art! The pictures really don't do Rodolfo's work justice- both recent pieces are breathtaking. I'm very happy with his work and extra special customer service!He also very fun to work with! Am in the possession of two relatively rare therefore quite valuable tapestries along with five pieces of artwork very dear to me. Therefore it was greatly imperative in locating not just any frame shop, but one where I can rely upon a high level of expertise in custom framing both for visual attraction yet in addition the ever critical preservation of such valuable pieces. I had previously had some excellent custom framing done at Artistic Framing in Berkeley by the owner/proprietor Rodolfo Olortegui (an absolutely amazing frame design expert, btw!) As it turned out at the time it was much more convenient for me to check out Rodolfo's Artistic Framing's Oakland location! From the very moment I entered Artistic Pictures in Oakland, my pieces in hand, I was ever so warmly greeted by who turned out to be the manager Jessica! Upon laying the tapestries and artwork out on a large display table in order to more effectively examine them, I was nearly knocked off my feet by the amazing Jessica's instant and comprehensive knowledge of my pieces including their provenance and quality! Wow, just WOW! Throughout the entire framing process- choosing a frame along with the perfect background- Jessica was extremely attentive to my opinions in conjunction with her own vast experience ... I felt as if part of a team in perfect lockstep, no less! All in all his combination of amazing customer service/support coupled with top shelf custom frame design expertise and choice of materials made for a truly memorabltge e purchase experience! In response to my review, Rodolfo emailed me asking if he could fix the issues I was dissatisfied with. He spent close to an hour with me giving me a primer on framing and going over options for reframing the paintings. I was referred by Michael's Art Supply to this frame shop. I just moved into a new place and had an old 30 x 36 mirror I was thinking of getting rid of, but changed my mind and decided instead to frame it for the dining room. When I went to this shop I looked at the samples and IMMEDIATELY FELL IN LOVE with the frame I got. And it was ON SALE!! There was no doubt. It took a while to get the mirror back, but that was no problem since I was still settling in to my new apartment. When it came time to pick up and install, my Taskrabbit tech installed it in 10 minutes start to finish! Mirror looks epic. It sets my dining room off. Thanks Artistic Framing. This is a really cool (large open high ceiling) art store to hang out in, that just happens to have a great framing store tucked in the corner. Kids will love the giant dinosaur outside as well as the one inside! Tons of unique art supplies that would make amazing gift bags for creatives of all ages. As far as framing goes, if you want fast and cheap, go somewhere else. They do quality work and that takes a few weeks sometimes (and makes them in demand). They did a great job framing a half dozen different sized paintings and posters for me. Lots of colorful frame choices and styles/materials, plus knowledgable and helpful staff who don't rush you. read more

I started at the Berkeley Store where I met Rodolfo. He truly is a master a choosing the frame suited for the picture by colors and by the medium. I had a cross stitch project which basically is considered fabric. Many framers won't do fabric or they do it poorly. Rodolfo is not one of those! My project was so beautifully framed that when I gave it to my friends, they cried. It now hangs in their living room. Then I went to the Oakland Store where I met Bethany. We talked for awhile and realized we had a lot in common. She does cross stitch also. So, needless to say she knew how treasured my cross stitch projects were. The frame combos she offered not only ranged in prices but also presentation styles. That project looked so beautiful when finished. Again at the Oakland Store, I brought Bethany a falling apart, ripped and repaired with black duct tape, 1970s Velvet Painting. It had sentimental significance to my husband. It was from his mother's house and she had just passed away. Granted, Bethany didn't have much to work with, she did a miracle! Repaired the rip, remounted it onto an incorporated new frame under the broken old frame and covered it with plexiglass. It now hangs in our living room. Thank you Artistic Picture Framing!
