Kris is a magician! I've been using her exclusively for years because she's always able to photograph and make adjustments to provide perfect digital files of my complex artwork. Because I work with mixed media, I haven't found anyone else who can accurately capture my work- it has so many different areas of shiny/reflective graphite, magazine papers, and gold leaf, combined with deeply flat charcoal etc. It involves a high level of expertise and she always finds a way to use lights and technology to give me an excellent image. She's even been able to add in design elements after the fact. She's also quite flexible and routinely makes herself available to work with my crazy schedule and multiple changes. And, she's quick! I've been interning at Electric Works for almost an hour and a half, and in my mostly-unbiased opinion, it is not only a really beautiful art gallery and store, but a friendly and supportive workplace. But since most of you won't care as much about the latter as I do... Electric Works' gallery is open with a high ceiling, unpretentious and clean and bright, with a really interesting show up right now with works by two widely different artists, Tucker Nichols and Katherine Sherwood. The gallery isn't huge, but really pretty and the art seems right at home. Next door to the gallery is the store, which is actually a giant bric-a-brac cabinet filled with the best gifts you'd ever want for friends. (Seriously, looking at the stuff there, I immediately thought of three people to get books for). Just a sample of what you might find in the Electric Works store: - Cartoons by David Mamet - Stereoscopically viewable art - Electric Works t-shirts - Books on the widely-known conflict between Bread and The Sea - Glass Klein Bottles (a non-orientable surface, like Mobius strips, that actually have no volume). The gallery and the store are open Monday-Friday 10:00am - 6:00pm and Saturday 10:30am - 4:30pm. Stop by and grab a book or a Klein Bottle and have a look at some neat art. I usually pass by this place every evening on my way home from work. I've seen interesting art in the windows, but could never make out whether it was a gallery, artist studio, or what...since the door was open yesterday, I went in. It look like they were still setting the place up, but they did have a lil' gift store - mostly books - and an actual gallery space. Checked out the recent works of an artist by the name of Paul Madonna - really cool original drawings and folio work. (I really liked his images of various neighborhoods in San Francisco). If I recall, The Electric Works is open Mon thru Fri - 10am to 6pm. I'd love to buy one of Madonna's smaller works - I'll see what I can do. In any case, I think that this place has the potential to be a really good gallery... read more

This is a really great art gallery and print studio. You can view some amazing art exhibitions and purchase original artwork or books and knick knacks from their awesome store. In addition, they have a first-class digital studio and offer photography and printing services. The staff is super nice and very passionate about the artists and services they provide. I am a subscriber to their Mini-Prints, which is like having your own reserved art edition. With every exhibition, Electric Works has the artist produce a small, limited edition print. You can purchase them individually for $40, or buy a one year subscription for $350. I loved the first season so much that I signed up for a second. It's a really fun, cool and cheap way to acquire new art, and each month is a new "surprise". Check it out! read more

OK, I think that Electric Works is now the coolest store in SF. The Pirate store (826 Valencia) was in the running, but EW now takes it. The bookstore part, curated by Noah, has the best assortment of strange books, toys, nicknacks and artist books to be found anywhere in the city. There is a choice selection of chinese kinetic tin toys for real cheap. I'll be going back soon for the Ping Pong windup toy. Nice selection of art books and artist catalogs. Truly a joy to explore. The gallery space is beautiful and Electric Works has worked with some of the best contemporary artists on limited edition prints and books for I0 years. They also have a gallery of little prints from established artists that are available for a steal! Really, stop and check 'em out...... read more

Electric Works is a fine art printing press, gallery and store. Go visit them! There is always delightful artwork in the gallery, always friendly folk milling about AND the office space is enclosed with classically San Franciscan curved glass. As soon as you walk into Electric Works you will notice lovely cubbies along the west facing wall. Some are set up like dioramas, others display books, t-shirts or the various accessory. If you are in need of a Magic Garden, a new moleskin with a SF map, or longing to flip through a perfectly curated collection of books, this is your spot. Nowhere else in San Francisco will you find Cabinet Magazine, Stuff on My Cat and David Byrne's Arboretum displayed together alongside one another with such success. read more

Electric Works is a beautiful printmaking studio and gallery space with a wonderful curated store. Whether for an opening or just dropping in on a Saturday afternoon, on each visit I've seen excellent art and met kind and interesting people. The highlight of my visits continues to be the store, which sells lovely, unique books and various other fine items: klein hats and bottles, german modeling wax, japanese construction worker pants, artist-designed shirts, wind-up squirrels, old fashioned lightbulbs with corkscrewy filaments, magic gardens... the list is long. Each time I visit there are a few new items in the store. I did a lot of my Christmas shopping at the store this year, and the gifts went over big. Highly recommended. read more
