I then remembered Deanna who made one of my best friend's cakes and small desserts for her wedding. I went on to her website and saw that she made frosted sugar cookies, so I decided to contact her. Deanna was super sweet, professional, and responsive! She contacted me within a day or my inquiry. I gave her an idea of what I was looking for and she provided me a quote. I've had the pleasure of enjoying Deanna's creations for a few years now. She always makes the cakes for our friends' special occasions. The best part about Deanna's cakes/tarts/desserts--they not only look amazing, but the taste is out of this world! A few years ago, my friends and I were obsessed with irish car bombs. No we weren't alcoholics, we just enjoyed the flavors of the Guiness and chocolate. As my birthday surprise, my friend asked Deanna to come up with something amazing. It's pretty hard to expect a vendor to exceed your expectations, but Artistic Bites exceeded mine! Even with her multiple commitments, Deanna makes you feel like your needs are thee most important! She made the process very easy and really listens to your requests. For my daughter's 5th birthday party, she chose an Aladdin/Jasmine theme. It'd been a pretty busy month at work and I had absolutely no time to tend to the details (favors, decorations, kids activities, etc). I was pretty worried her friends and my guests would be disappointed. I had found a cake design my daughter had loved. Although Deanna (Artistic Bites Pastry Chef) provided me with ample design examples, I had asked Deanna if she could re-create the design my daughter had found. I was informed that Deanna always adds her own "spin/creative touch" to her designs, so I did not expect her to make it exactly like the photo. When the cake arrived, Deanna and her VERY helpful driver/delivery guy, set up the cake and the stand. Oh my! Not only did she make a beautiful display (pedestal, platter, decorative cloth to fit our theme), but she made an absolutely beautiful cake. The cake had a genie lamp and they added dry ice to make smoke come out of it (that was not part of my request)! So creative and absolutely entertaining! How many people can say that about THEIR cake creations?! Nonetheless, the cake was beautifully done, created with love, and so yummy! We had probably one of the best cakes I have ever tasted in my life made by the talented Deanna! I am so glad we chose Deanna to design our cake. I really wanted lace details for our cake since my theme incorporated lace and also my wedding dress was all lace and Deanna was able to deliver on my vision. Deanna was so sweet and listened to what we wanted and offered suggestions to what she believed would work. She also made sure to work with our budget. Our cake tasting consisted of 4 flavors (Lemon raspberry, MMM cake-cookies and cream, supa mango- oh oh, and chocolate truffle) to taste test. All flavors were scrumptious (BTW I am a dessert freak) but we ultimately decided to go with the Lemon Raspberry cake for a light cake for our summer wedding. Do you see that GORGEOUS teal and yellow cake that is the main photo on this page? Well, that was OUR wedding cake by the extremely talented pastry chef, Deanna Gin, creator of Artistic Bites!!!!!!! My husband and I love the ocean, and for our wedding, we went with teal/light blue and yellow as our colors. We had our wedding reception on the private pier at La Mar in San Francisco, which was right on the water, so the ocean was our main theme. The cake Deanna created for us just shows her creative genius. After just a short consultation, I decided to trust Deanna and let her do her thing. When I saw my wedding cake the day of the reception, I was floored. I couldn't be happier!!!! It was a perfect depiction of what I had wanted, the colors were spot on, the shells and starfish looked so real, the entire thing was PERFECT. It was EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED!! Actually, OUR cake was exactly what WE wanted. (I guess I have to use "we" now that we're married)...but seriously the cake fit in with everything else perfectly...the backdrop of the ocean, just the right amount of fancy and whimsical, but also elegant and formal. Her cakes are designed and created and not your everyday run of the mill flat cake with plastic toys dropped on it. Food: 5/5 - My fiance/now wife just used Artistic Bites for our wedding on 6/23/12. We sampled many other places, in SF as well as other places in the Bay, and this was by far the best in terms of taste and presentation. We first sampled Deanna's cakes at a wedding fair on the Peninsula, and we thought her cakes were some of the best we had sampled overall. We were particularly impressed with the freshness of the fruit ingredients she uses, as well as the fact that her cakes are moist, and fillings/buttercreams are perfectly sweet and well proportioned. We opted to choose raspberry lemon, which was really fresh and very light and tasty. Not only are her cakes really flavorful, but Deanna truly lives up to the 'artistic' piece of the name. We looked at many of her previous cake designs (only some of which are posted here), and she has done some extremely complex and creative designs. I've honestly only seen these types of cakes on Food Network shows. So on that end, we felt like she was by far the best in terms of the design factor of the cake. With both awesome flavor + design, we felt like this was our best option. Service: 5/5 - Deanna was extremely professional, and always very responsive despite a busy schedule. We always had a really pleasant experience both via email, phone, and in-person during tastings. Having dealt with many other vendors, and understanding that she is also actively baking during the day, I'd say she was always prompt and professional. And she was also very good about making recommendations for us, and interpreting our wants/needs to put together an awesome cake for us. Her website said that she was no longer taking any more orders, but we decided to shoot an email over just to make sure. After a few emails, Deanna agreed to take on our wedding dessert order! She was patient and straightforward and we decided not to do a tasting since this was a last minute booking. Deanna did not disappoint and her desserts were amazing. First off Deanna's edible works of art are a sight that need to be seen in person. It's one thing to have a great looking cake and another to taste good and she accomplishes both with her cakes. Deanna, the pastry chef of Artistic Bites, makes some darn good sweet potato and pumpkin tarts! They are my absolute favorite. She also makes the best looking and great tasting cakes I have ever seen and eaten. The mango mousse cake, hazelnut chocolate chunk, and peanut butter chocolate whoopie pies are also DELICIOUS. My son loves dinosaurs! So, it's not surprise he wanted a dinosaur theme for his birthday party. We had the absolutely scrumptious" MMM...cupcake" ; a chocolate cupcake topped with a cream cheese chocolate cookie frosting. The frosting is then covered in tiny chocolate pieces. MIND=BLOWN. I've got two things any yelper simply needs to know about Artistic Bites: 1. ORAL ECSTASY 2. QUALITY PRESENTATION I am not the biggest fan of sweets (most of the time it's like I was born without a sweet tooth), but whenever I have a bite of one Deanna's cakes or tarts, you can be certain that that bite has ALL my attention. I'm a fan of carrot cake, and I don't know many places that make a really good one, but she seems to have the ratio down with the right amount of cheesecake frosting and not an overbearing amount of cinnamon in the cake. I know carrot cake isn't really the most talked about flavor that she does (then again, not many people actually care for carrot cake like I do), but as a fan, I really appreciate that fact that she cared enough to get it right. Seriously! Oh, and another thing you MUST MUST MUST have - especially for the holidays! - is the pumpkin tarts. It's no mistake that it's such a hit with all my friends and family. That's probably the first thing everyone asks about when the season starts rolling around. And, YES, it's that time of the season!!! I've been seeing on the facebook page that there are even more flavors and desserts that I have yet to try, but let me tell you, they all make me drool! I've also heard TONS about the Strawberry Goodness flavor, the only reason I haven't tried it is because I'm not really a butter cream person. But, hey, if you like it - the consensus amongst all of the customer reviews I've read/heard of were that it is a to-die-for flavor. Had the eclair, and raspberry and caramel macarons at Yelp's Beerwalk Empire. Their samples were just as tasty as they were beautifully crafted. The mini chocolate eclair filled with chocolate custard was yummy. I now know, for a crazy sweet tooth like me to have never had a macaron is a sin. This places makes one of the BEST deserts I have ever tried...and I do eat a lot of cakes and pastries! :) The chocolate peanut butter whoopie pies are to die for! They are so light and fluffy and not too overwhelmingly sweet. For my Birthday my co-worker surprised me with one of Artistic Bites cakes, called Strawberry Goodness. Hmm, this cake was not only beautifully decorated, but also tasted very good. The fresh strawberries were soo delicious, as well as the frosting! Deanna has made both my daughters' birthday cakes for the past 4 years and I always give her artistic freedom to do whatever she feels my kids would love. She never disappoints!!! She's also made my cakes for my baby shower and wedding. Not only are they beautiful cakes, THEYRE FREAKIN DELICIOUS!!!! I visited several cake businesses before a friend recommended Deanna to me for my wedding cake. She by far exceeded my expectations and did such a wonderful job that from now on I will use and recommend her for every cake need I have! I tried a variety of flavors, but her MMM Cake blew me away; it was such a big hit with everyone! My husband is very much against fondant and unbelievingly some pastry chef's said they wouldn't do a buttercream only cake! Not Deanna, she had no problem giving me exactly what I wanted and suggested some wonderful designs. I've used artistic bites twice now. Once for my wedding cake and also for my husbands 30th birthday. Both times surpassed my expectations. Deanna is very professional and consistent with her cakes. She does a great job presenting the client with well thought out ideas and not to mention her cake flavors are amazing! I've used Artistic Bites twice - and was amazed each time! My first order was for my husband's surprise bday. I had the cake made to look like a rifle with our daughter's name on it. Although the chef didn't know much about guns, All i had to do was send in a few photos to give her an idea, and BAM - my husband was not only surprised, but super impressed! The second cake was for my daughter's joint birthday. I had no idea what theme i wanted, but just threw some ideas out there, and D arrived with something so adorable! two blocks joined by a rainbow - all pastel colors. it was beautiful. and best of all, my inlaws LOVED both cakes.
