It's a quaint little shop with the most delightful owner. She was so nice at explaining everything and letting us try the different flavors. So what is it? It's an ice cream dessert, that is usually intense in flavor and creamy in texture, but does not contain dairy products, or substitutes, nor fats, gluten, nuts and derivatives, soy, eggs, colorings, or artificial flavors. Hello allergen free! The flavors were so full and delicious. And there were so many flavors to choose from. There were new fruits I had never tried in combinations like the Soursop in Twilight (combined with Blackberry). It was my second favorite only to the Limon which is a tart lemon. Not a fan of tart? They have sweet flavors too like Mint Chocolate and Brownie. The Blueberry Cheesecake is pretty amazing too! I think between my dad, sister, and I we walked out with like 7 pints. They've even opened up a location in Boca Raton, FL so we can enjoy it when we visit my Dad. read more

Everything is 100% gluten free including the cones and baked goods!! I wish there was something similar in our area. My non-Celiac family LOVED the gelato and cones. Be aware, on our most recent visit we arrived at 7:55 pm because the website said they closed at 9:00pm. While we were ordering, we were asked to hurry because they closed at 8:00. It may be worth calling ahead to verify if you are driving to the area specifically for Artisen. read more

Such a cute place to try some allergen friendly gelato! I am allergic to dairy so it's nice to find a place I don't have to worry about ordering. read more

Came for an after dinner treat. We had the apple pie, mint chocolate and salted caramel flavors. Love the vegan concept. As, someone else mentioned the texture is different but the flavor was amazing. The apple pie had real apple chucks in it. They also offer sorbets too. read more

Love this place! The ice cream flavors are so good and the rotation never misses. Such friendly staff too!

The icecreams tasted horrible .. bland colorful frozen stuff really ... we ordered salted caramel n mango dragon fruit.. both tasted awful .. I think they should banner it clearly tat they do vegan icecreams ... atleast we and the 2 other customers seated next to us realized this after they tasted/ordered the icecream ..they got banana and vanilla flavor n said both tasted weird n synthetic too! 2 stars for the lady helping us out to pick flavors n at the cash counter . read more

This was such a great stop on our Matthews food tour! One of our friends recommended it and I was super impressed! First of all, this does NOT taste vegan. No skimping on texture, flavor or creaminess. You're allowed to sample a few before deciding so I took advantage since there was a ton of flavors and it was hard to choose! I landed on the tres leche flavor. I loved the little waffle that came with it. The gelato was fantastic. My only complaint was that the service wasn't very friendly at all. Not bad, but it could definitely be improved! There is not a ton of seating but we were able to get our group of 5 at a table comfortably and hung out to chat over our gelato for a while! read more

The vegan and nut-free gelato is a great concept. However, the texture can be a bit different and I felt their lavender gelato has an almost slimy texture compared to the other flavors. Overall, still a great place to try out if you are in town. read more

Wait was very long. There was a party of 4 infront of us and it took 20 mins for them to get their coffee and desserts. I did feel bad because it was a Saturday and one girl was working alone, but the full focus was on one party at a time even when the coffee was brewing we weren't being greeted or helped. Should have just left but stuck it out and unfortunately the flavors were nothing special. Good for people with a lot of allergies but if you are going for just taste and a good experience I wouldn't recommend read more

Great unique flavors fill this gelato shop- some of which are bubble gum (not unique but wow I haven't seen this flavor since childhood), chocolate/orange, and apple pie. After sampling some, I ultimately chose to stick to my more traditional craving and go with mint chip. I had a some of my husbands chocolate/orange which was tasty as well! A small cone and a small cup came to almost $11.. it's is pricey!! However, I will say this is some of the better gelato I have had recently. They allow you to sample and don't rush you. This place is vegan, but is humble about it. Decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating. My small cup came with a delicious waffle cone cookie on top. read more

Artisen is an absolute gem of a spot located in Matthews, NC! Don't let the term Vegan intimidate you - this gelato is tasty for every palate. There are tons of flavors including blueberry cheesecake, cookie dough, brownie batter, and more! They even have a case with a variety of sorbet as well as some doggie gelato to take home for your little buddy. What a nice touch! The texture is a little different than gelato you may be accustomed to, which is expected for vegan products. The waffle cones are all gluten free but the texture is very similar to a regular waffle cone. My only negative feedback would be that the young girls working in there were not very friendly at all and didn't seem to care that it was our first time visiting. Information about the business/product and a smiling face would have been a nice touch. Customer service has really gone downhill after COVID, unfortunate really. The creative and approachable gelato flavors will keep me coming back for more. read more

Bursting w flavor and always a treat!! One of the Charlotte places I love to take visitors to.

Pretty good. Nice place. But it wasn't my tasted. I think the chocolate in the salted caramel changed the flavor profile. Husband and kiddo liked theirs. read more

This place is a nice neighborhood gem! Close to downtown Matthews. Artisen is an all vegan gelato restaurant. Excellent tropical flavors such as sour sop, passion fruit, and more. I tried the tres leches and the Stracciatella. I enjoyed the tres leches more than the other, but both flavors are good. This a must try. Service is good. Store hours are great read more

Friends recommended this spot and I can't believe it took me so long to try it. My husband and I tried two larges with: - Mango Passion Fruit Cheesecake - Fig and Orange - Green Apple Caramel - Peach Cobbler They were all fantastic. Mango Passion Fruit Cheesecake was definitely my favorite, but I'd get any of them again. This is definitely my favorite gelato in the Charlotte area and it's one of my favorite frozen treat spots as well (ice cream, etc). I'll be back next time I'm in Charlotte! read more

We loved Artisen! A friend just told me about it, and we had to check it out that evening! The staff was super nice. Everything is dairy free, gluten free, nut free, and egg free, so you do not need to worry about allergies here. We were able to try a few samples before making our selection. My son and I got the chocolate chip and strawberry flavors. They were so creamy and delicious! The strawberry had chunks of strawberry in it! We will definitely be back soon! read more

I drove 45 minutes with my kids to get here. The sign says they close at 9 PM, and we arrived at 8:55. Despite still serving other customers in plain sight, we were turned away. This wasn't for me -- it was for my children, who are 7 and 8 years old. They were very disappointed. They've always looked forward to coming here, and we've been loyal customers for years. What upset me most was the message it sent to my kids. They noticed they were being looked at differently and asked why they were turned away when others were still being served. All they wanted was a scoop of ice cream. I'm very disappointed. read more

Decided to splurge on gelato and this place was so worth it. A great place to chill, eat delicious gelato, and talk. Staff was super friendly, the gelato was oh so yum, and the place was very clean. I love the gelato here! So many delicious flavors (I often go for stracciatella, and most recently they had rose). The actual atmosphere of the place is fine, but I typically buy pints and take them home to enjoy. This is my go-to place when I want a sweet little treat :) read more

What drew me in was the fact that they have a lot of unique flavors here. They offer mostly gelato but they have several sorbets and small desserts as well. I got a small mango passion fruit cheesecake gelato, and since my dog is spoiled I got him a doggie gelato cake. My total was just under $10. The gelato was smooth and super flavorful! It had small cheesecake chunks in it and the passion fruit purée had passion fruit seeds in it which made for a nice texture. Your gelato/ sorbet automatically comes with a waffle cone disk. The only thing I will say is the waffle cone was not as sweet as they typically are anywhere else, and the small cup was smaller than a mini blizzard at Dairy Queen. Those things aside, it was delicious and I will return to try other flavors! read more

Staff was incredibly friendly and they have such a big open shop and outdoor seating but unfortunately the gelato was quite disappointing. The texture was way off for gelato and ice cream, we tried different flavors and it wasn't worth finishing. I wanted to love it! read more

Delicious flavors! Friendly staff and knowledgeable. Inside and outdoor seating. Close to downtown!

I found this place on Yelp after my friends and I had dinner. We were craving for dessert and this was the only place nearby that was open. I'm so glad we stopped by! They have their own parking lot and the store is clean, bright, and the staff are so friendly. There were so many delicious flavors to choose from but I was on a passionfruit obsession after having fresh passionfruit in Colombia so I immediately opted for their Mango Passionfruit flavor. It was such a great choice! It wasn't overly sweet and you can actually taste the fruits! It wasn't too heavy as well and the waffle cookie on top was such a treat. My only wish was that they were closer to me but I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in the area read more

Great sweet treat, a fun atmosphere and quick service. We also appreciate the community service that Manolo and his staff provide.

I was so excited to try this place as a fellow lactose intolerant member and they did not disappoint! They had a plethora of options (all non-dairy) so I was a kid in a candy store not having any limitations. Can't wait to visit again soon! read more

Whaaaaa... how have I not been to this place yet? Probably because I've moved away from the Matthews area, but it's nice to come back and visit all things Matthews. Artisen is small, unassuming gelato shop that really packs a punch as far as flavorful experiences. The offer Ecuadorian gelato - which, I'm sorry to say, I did not know was a thing. All their gelatos are gluten, nut, dairy, soy and completely organic. So vegan friendly. Yet, I'm not sure how they create the creaminess... other than magic. A purple-haired birdy showed me this place and I'm so glad we went. We did have to "cheese-it" across some rush hour traffic, but it was well worth it. Large parking lot, and when you walk in you see the large case of all the flavors in front of you with super friendly staff waiting to serve you deliciousness. Sample all you want, I usually just go for a flavor and dive in. There's a large open dining space with a display in the corner on the history of their sorbet/gelato process - so it's super educational for kids. Overall, this place is great. I will make it a point to always go here since their gelatos are so good and refreshing (even when full of food). read more

I wasn't able to get a picture of the gelato my mom and I got. The gelato was okay. The customer service and environment was stale. We let the lady know it was our first time there but nothing wow'd us about the customer service after that as she seemed nonchalant about our first visit. She was nice enough to let me try more gelato flavors than the usual amount but she didn't really go out her way to help me pick a flavor I would like. It was hard for me to pick something that stood out to me so I settled for the key lime flavor which I wish I got vanilla instead. My mom got the salted caramel gelato which she said was okay. We also got a strawberry shortcake cookie which was okay as well. read more

when I first tried this Vegelato in March of this year it was delicious. I especially loved that i could enjoy a GF cone I have since purchased pints on several occasions and taken friends there as well...that said, my most recent experiences have left me a bit disappointed. The previously creamy texture now seems a bit more icy. I am getting the sense that there has been a recipe change and not for the better. It is expensive stuff and it saddens me that there might be a cheapening of recipe. More sugar, more ice, less creamy Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me? read more

Ignore the amazing selection of gelato that is safe for the peanut free, milk free, soy free, gluten free people for just a second and actually look at this place. It is so clean and tastefully decorated. It has a wonderful array of neat little sections to peruse and read, not to mention a soft musical feel in the background. The gelato choices are exceptional. I tasted the coffee and the creamsicle. The coffee has both the strong bite of coffee and the silky smooth sweet flavor of ice cream. As for the Creamsicle....do you remember the Flintstones push ups?! Imagine that, but better. If that's even possible. The bow on this otherwise delightful present is the exemplary service. It is friendly and patient and kind. This place is worth the visit. read more

Fun to enjoy some gelato, especially in a relaxed environment. There's easy parking in their lot right near Downtown Matthews. They have around 24 flavors of gelato plus 7 sorbet options. They have about 5 tables plus a couple of sofas which are great for families or groups to hang out and enjoy. Bring your sweet tooth to Matthews and enjoy! read more

I love that this is a vegan gelato place, but they aren't pretentious and in your face about it. I really wouldn't have known it was vegan if I wasn't told ahead of time. The gelato here is is great, with all the classic flavors, and some unique ones you'll have to try like avocado and bubble gum. I settled on the chocolate and orange flavo, which if I didn't try it, would never in a minion years have thought those two flavors should go together, but it was fantastic! The orange zest, combined with the bitter creaminess of the chocolate was a beautiful combo I highly recommend! read more
