I received a recommendation to check out Artisan Stoneworks from Tile Outlet on Fullerton. Initially I was looking for some marble remnants for three bathroom vanities as well as a matching shower threshold and bench top. I walked in unannounced and was quickly shown the vast selection they have. I picked out 2 similar looking white marble slabs and was told to contact the owner, Ray for pricing. Ray responses very quickly to texts (not necessarily voicemails, so keep that in mind) and I was given a very reasonable quote. My bathroom vanities weren't yet installed, so they graciously agreed to hold my slabs so that no one else could purchase (with a payment deposit). When the vanities were ready, their guys were out within 1-2 days to measure and install within another 1-2 days (super quick turnaround as compared to other stone installers I've used in the past). I'm not new to remodeling (this is my 4th large-scale remodel project), so I have experienced the spectrum of stone fabrication and installation quality. Artisan's work was so nice that I asked them for a quote to do my kitchen. There was a new porcelain-like product that I wanted to use in the kitchen due to the indestructibility / stain features it allows - I've got 2 small kids and a messy hubby so I didn't want to worry about cleaning up after every mess. I had asked around to some other stone fabricators I've used in the past, but no one had previously worked with the product or was willing to do so. Again, I reached out to Ray and his guys came out right away to measure and gave me a quote utilizing this new product (which they had previously worked with). He gave me a fair quote, however noted that due the thickness (or rather thinness) of the material, the labor required to miter edges was high. He suggested I take a look at some of the new quartzes that have a similar look and durability but offer standard 3cm thickness which equates to less labor. I followed his recommendation and went to the supplier he suggested and found a quartz that looked exactly like the porcelain product I originally wanted. The quote was more reasonable and the end-result looks just like calcutta gold marble - the look I was trying to replicate. I should note that I had Artisan install the quartz as a backsplash in addition to the countertops. They did a great job matching up veining between the counter and backsplash to create a super high-end look. Additionally, I had some extra quartz material and Ray was nice enough to cut and install on my fireplace surround for no additional cost. All in all, I'm extremely happy to have Ray / Artisan Stoneworks in my rolodex for future projects and highly recommend them to others. read more

We recently built a single family home in Lincoln Park via a local design/build company. All of the stonework and tile was done by Ray and his guys at Artisan Stoneworks. We couldn't have been more pleased with all the work. It was done very clean, and we were impressed by the attention to detail. Ray was there every step of the way, from selecting some of the final stones for the master bathroom, and mapping out the pieces before they were cut so that the veining pattern in the stone could match. My husband was very particular about the tile around the tvs in the master bed and great room, and Ray was able to accomplish everything that was asked. Many friends have been to the home and everyone has been wowed by the stonework....not only the amazing kitchen waterfall and backsplash, but the entire home. Thanks Ray! read more

My wife and I recently installed secondary cabinets, and were looking for a smaller piece of quartz. Artisan Stoneworks came recommended by our cabinet guy. We stopped in, and met with Arturo. Our job, 10 sq feet, is not very lucrative for most stone companies. Ray and his team made our experience enjoyable. They selected a beautiful piece of quartz, and Eden was in a few days later measuring to fit. 2 days after that, Eden came back for the install. Very smooth process. Ray was very responsive by text. We couldn't be happier with our experience working with Ray and his team from Artisan Stoneworks! My husband and I didn't have a designer, so served as our own general contractor -- and the counter selection was what we found most stressful and confusing. We finally found the quartz we wanted at Global Granite in Niles, and that's where we heard about Ray. He was SO responsive every time we had questions about getting the slab -- we never waited more than a few minutes for an answer to any question we had. And once he had it in his hands, the turn-around time was extremely fast. We went to see it all laid out on a Friday and he texted Monday morning to see if he could come install that day! The counters fit perfectly, and the installers (Eden and 2 others I didn't get names of) were friendly, professional and cleaned everything up beautifully. Ray and his team helped me with a little project I had. I needed to cut a tiny piece of marble bathroom molding to fit into a smaller space. I explained the situation and he offered to take care of it at no charge. At the shop his team took care of it immediately in between their work on large countertops. I am so pleased with and delighted by my experience with Ray (and Arturo) at Artisan Stoneworks. They were really friendly and professional, and were -- perhaps best of all -- fast! We fell in love with very expensive stone and to take the sting away, Ray gave us a considerable discount and even threw in a new sink at no extra charge. That was pretty impressive, considering we were first time customers. We recently had Artisan Stoneworks provide our Caesarstone kitchen countertop. Last year, we had them provide a marble bathroom vanity top, but had some communication issues during the process and wrote a Yelp review detailing our experience. Within days of writing the review, Ray, the owner, contacted us to understand our complaint and indicate how he was improving his own processes and communication to better serve his customers. With our kitchen project coming up, we entertained a quote from Artisan and found it to be very competitive. The best part of this experience was the turnaround time for installing the stone. They measured on Monday, and installed on Tuesday, allowing us to move forward with our project ahead of schedule. I think it is important, as a homeowner, or consumer in general, to be well informed about your purchases. As such, we generally ask a shit ton of questions, and expect direct answers to all of those questions. This time around, Artisan did a much better job of answering these, not perfect, but we won't complain. So we are happy customers. As we like to support Local, its nice to have Artisan nearby, and it's good to know that the owner has a direct involvement in customer service. read more

As a general contractor, I can't overstate the importance of good subcontractors. They need to be professional, reliable, capable, and flexible. Ray and his guys at Artisan Stoneworks fill the bill. They have done two sets of granite kitchens for me now and both have turned out beautifully, on time, and right on the budget Ray promised, without surprise add-ons or additional requirements of us. These successful outcomes were in spite of the fact that we had short time frames and, well, let's just say less than perfectly straight walls in the older buildings we were rehabbing. I have worked with many granite and marble counter outfits over the years. Most of them have done pretty good work. But Ray and his crew were by far the easiest to work with and I heartily recommend them. They will be my go-to guys for counters from now on. read more

I've been trying to get an estimate from these guys for the last 3 weeks. They do not answer their phone, and their voice mailbox is full and cannot accept messages. So because I live nearby I went to the location to speak directly to them. It is basically a warehouse full of slabs and cutting tools, but there was no showroom and no-one there from management. I brought with me a detailed drawing of the kitchen countertops I need, with all dimensions marked, and I left it (with an employee named Eden) along with my name and contact details, and requested that they give me an estimate. That was 10 days ago. No reply at all. UPDATE 4/25/14: Ray, the owner, got in contact with me a day after I left this review. He advises that text is the best way to reach him. We have discussed a deal and are proceeding with it. He was able to comfortably beat the Home Depot estimate. I will post again after the job is completed. I have changed my initial 1 star review to 3 stars and will update again based on the final job. read more

Long story short they installed my kitchen island and must have cracked the stone on installation. After trying to fix it unsuccessfully, Ray refused to stand behind his work and replace it. Artisan does fantastic work! Ray and his team have helped me with several of my counters and I have to say, I haven't been disappointed. I value their suggestions as they know what they're talking about. Pricing is extremely competitive. What's even better is that they install within days of doing a field measure- great turn around time. Would highly recommend them.
