It's not that they're all out to rob you, I don't think, it's just a more-expensive business than it used to be. And too many of them rely on prominent locations to get noticed. That real estate comes with (literally) a cost. Enter Garrett's Framing Studio. They're in a small strip mall set back not just from a main road but from a side street, too. They have a big suite with plenty of space, and they do a ton of work in-house. I found this out after realizing I not only had a backlog of stuff I've been wanting to frame, but would actually have a little wall space again after giving a few things away. I contacted a few places to see about prices and services, and none of them really got back that quickly (Garrett's included). These guys ended up being my first phone call after all my emails went nowhere, and he quickly walked me through a few ways to finish my projects for less money than I might have thought. Instant interest. I ended up framing a couple things myself with store-bought kits, and put all my focus on a nice piece that's been rolled up for a couple years, waiting for attention. Garrett was behind the counter when I brought it in. He had already juggled emails and phone calls from me as well as an email from my sister about buying me a gift certificate to put toward the project. He walked us through all the matte and frame options, with tons of creative input and advice on criteria to use while deciding. But it was all very low-key, and he never acted like he was the only person in the room who knew anything about framing. He even noticed that the piece was signed, without having to have that pointed out, and adjusted the matte size accordingly. We picked something in under 10 minutes, and he offered advice on the most cost-effective glass for the piece. The price is still a little higher than an old geezer like me is used to, but that's geezer life for ya. He ended up being super-responsive on email once the project was underway, and proactive, too--always thoughtful with communication. I picked up my piece a couple weeks later, as promised, and it's hanging now just across from the desk in my office. I couldn't be happier. I've always liked having framed stuff around the house, to the point where now I have all the stuff I can handle. It's awesome to be able to add one more. And now I have a go-to frame shop as well...just in case I buy a bigger house or something.

Not just that, but the sketching supplies, calligraphy, paint brushes(especially Princetons, shocking that the Princeton brushes are wiped out completely except for maybe a handful of brushes, but all the cheaper ones like W&N Cotman & Artist's Loft were in supply a-plenty. I know that's not the employees fault, plus we DID just have Black Friday & Christmas, and New Years sales so maybe that's why it was wiped out (just havent gotten a shipment in yet I hope?). I'm hoping to come back in the future after a while and see if it's fully stocked again, or if that poor store just never gets to new shipments in of their painting supplies. They were out of weird things too, like all of their scrapbook paper that looks like wood/flooring was gone. And they didn't have green paper. Instead of walking over to look at the product--despite being only about 12 feet away--he glanced from a distance, checked his phone for a moment, and told her it was $13.99. That didn't sit right with me, so after paying, Something didn't feel right so I went back to check the shelf myself. The exact same item was clearly marked $5.79. I brought the correctly priced item and photos to the manager. He offered no apology and simply said the online price he saw was higher. When I returned to the register to correct the purchase, he brushed it off again, saying the item "must have been marked wrong." The issue isn't just the price difference--it's the lack of effort and accountability. The manager didn't take a moment to walk over and verify the product, didn't check the shelf, and didn't seem concerned about overcharging a customer by more than double. Not everyone can absorb that kind of mistake, and customers shouldn't have to double-check basic accuracy. Do better. Customers trust matters, and so does taking the time to get it right. Customers should trust the store to be accurate and fair the first time.

They also helped me finish checking out and said I could leave the cart by my car, they would bring it in. Coupons always on the app, in the store and via their ads. I required several basic repairs around my residence, which necessitated the use of a ladder, screws, and a screw anchor. One repair was time-sensitive, and the company initially offered immediate repairs but suggested returning a few weeks later due to them being booked up. This approach was reasonable and appreciated. However, after further communication with the company, I discovered for the time sensitive repair, they required a $250 deposit prior to any work starting, and would charge their minimum two-hour fee of $300. The job involved simply reattaching one side of an outdoor sun shade, resulting in an estimated total of $820.85 for all of the repairs. As a homeowner I've had several estimates and repairs completed by Handy-person services over the last few decades, but this one has to be the most unreasonable. In contrast, I contacted another Handy-person service company today that arrived at my residence within 30 minutes of my initial contact.They provided an on-site estimate and completed all the necessary repairs in a single hour. The total cost was $110.50, which included tax. This experience met my expectations. The service was reasonably priced, and the handyman was professional and skilled. I now have established a go-to handyman who I can build a lengthy business relationship, year after year. It is unacceptable to ask customers to pay for labor before the work is completed. Materials may be charged, but labor should not be. So glad I found this new Handyman service company. I will definitely be leaving a positive review for them.

I wanted to send them a guide print to serve as a reference but they would not let me do it and no proofing available. It was a large Giclee so I was a little concerned as I have not ever worked with a lab that refused both guide print and proof. It was a reproduction of my wife's oil painting so color matching is important to us. Communication was over the phone and email so I might have gotten better service in person. A bit defensive when answering questions. Maybe it was me? or they are just too busy because they do good work at reasonable prices.
