Kitty Christmas ornaments I made with a crapload of styrofoam and glitter and glue and other stuff from Michaels
    Chris H.

Pretty much your typical Michael's: it's stuffed to the ceiling with crafty things, packed on shelves in rather narrow aisles. You could totally get lost in here, and not in the good way...the only hope you have to find anything is either to ask one of the nice employees for help, or to just wander around the store enough that eventually you start to figure it out, although you'll get stuck a lot behind people who are blocking the aisles while they ponder the merits of different glitters or polymer clays or doll parts or whatever. The selection of craft stuff is superior to Jo-Ann Fabrics but a step or two behind Hobby Lobby, but for the most part Michael's is likely to have what you need. When you're at checkout, give them your email address with caution: you will be besieged with (or is it "besieged by"?) emails with coupons for 10,000% off everything ever.

Needles & Hooks is stocked with more yarn than I previously thought existed on planet earth. They have every color/pattern you could imagine and all the accessories to go along with it. I also love the art pieces scattered throughout the shop, giving it a whimsical feel. I truly couldn't pick a favorite.. but gun to my head? I loved the hand knitted frogs. Whether you're an experienced knitter or just looking to breathe in all the crafty air, this is a great place to spend your weekend. I felt my body instantly gravitate to this store and left feeling inspired to create.

Needles and Hooks was just a nice as the last time I went. The yarn here is more expensive than a Michaels but most if not all yarn will have natural fibers. The person who helped me out is really nice and helped verify my yarn color choices. If you buy a hank of yarn, they'll offer to cake it. I've taken the offer before and it turns out nice. I didn't during this visit. There is a decent amount of people who come to knit on Thursdays but I was there to shop. Shopping during that hour is a bit less popular since people are crafting. Parking is great and I will still mourn the fact they had to move inside the mall from their spot outside with a nice window.

The New Knittery - Come to visit the yarn wall. Stay to knit.

From the old, old shopping center in the 80s by JC Penny, to the small location by IKEA and then this one, I've been a customer and followed them, literally, since 1986, and learned how to read a pattern through classes that were worth the 30 minute drive to get there, even with a houseful of babies. Got a question? I encourage you to call and ask. You won't be disappointed. I've been told "we'd love to see you but we don't have that in stock right now." The honesty is refreshing. Do they seem busy? Speak up; they're just waiting to hear what you need and will get to you as soon as they can. The best experience is to allow ample time to browse. You'll won't be nagged while deciding on the perfect pattern, and they'll gladly help you choose the perfect yarn to make it, if you can't decide which yarn on your own. I'm treating myself to a special trip just for yarn tomorrow; my birthday present to myself. I can't wait! I'll probably still miss Wynne, but I hope I'm still around to see these ladies retire and pass the store on to the employees who will buy it in the future.

I took in a skein of yarn that had been munched on by moths (thankfully they were long gone post feast) and Shannon, one of the lovely gals who works there, spent over two hours unravelling, hand winding and then winding the little balls into one beautiful cake. I highly recommend this space if you are looking for some very nice folks to help you find what you need and provide classes of all kinds.
