I want to like this place since it is my local game store. However, the owner and his staff are shockingly inappropriate. They are constantly talking super loud and SWEARING non-stop. Like an f-bomb in every sentence, which would be awkward even on the Sopranos. I visit WA every couple of years. The condo Inown is a few blocks from here. This place is like a tourist attraction for me. I stop by a couple of times while im in the area. Big collection of used and new 40k. There are a bunch of tables to play. I wish I had a place like this close to my home. Reasonable prices. Such a greasy shop it left the trade mark vinegar taste in my mouth. Being an avid MTG player since ice age along with having worked at tcg shops made it difficult too part with what I did at the price I let them go at. There have been other reviews that made me think a little before going in but I hadn't been in a tcg shop since pre-covid and most of my buddies I played with moved back to their home states or too far away to have solid commander nights and such, so I turned to around the table word of mouth and someone recommended mugu since I needed a little cash to help with some stuff. Now I had been keeping track of some of my collection on tcg trader and just having a physical notebook to record down deck ideas, doubles triples ect. So I knew some of the things I was letting go of had an ok value still, at least I thought it did. So I grabbed a few commander decks I wasn't using anymore, some random decks I had built for fun that I never got around to play and some Pokemon stuff I messed with but never went anywhere with and drove to mugu. What a first experience indeed. Being a customer service oriented person and working in the retail environment for more than 20 years made me see how far most tcg shops have fallen with an instant feeling of just "great another person to deal with" look in both associates eyes. Mind you it's my first time ever coming into this shop, so I ask a guy in a mugu shirt and let him know I had called a day before seeing if I could get a quote on what my card collection might be worth, nothing to crazy I thought. The answer I get was a confused and almost being amazed I would ask him such a question answer if "well we don't quote, we buy if you want to sell......" So I of course answered with I'm looking to sell and proceed to follow him towards the counter, stopping and looking at some Warhammer stuff and wondering if I should splurge on something if I get a good offer. While waiting with my trusty pineapple MTG backpack for help I felt like neither wanted to really look, until the dude in the black shirt said something to the red headed dude and turned to me and with a pathetic look said " I guess I'm looking at your stuff...." and sat down. I knew right there that this was going to be a fun experience. So I started taking my stuff out of my backpack, reminiscing on playing them, being surprised at what was there and realizing that they might have commander night! So I tried small talking about the decks, asking if it a curtain deck, or if he had come across a curtain card and then telling him about how I heard about the shop through someone at around the table, which I get an answer back about a random friend he knew who owned a shop up the way which I in turn reply with how it was cool finding them through another card shop and get this rash answer back of "well most other shops aren't going to tell you about the other shops........" with the look of your such an idiot for even saying such a thing. I pretty much sat the next 10 minutes waiting with him to shuffle through my decks, having the look of being impressed very little, which was not concerning since I knew I had doubles and such at home, and then he threw me this price that almost made me burst out laughing, now I did mention to him I wasn't looking to break his wallet with a price and I was looking for cash since I wasn't looking for anything at the moment and I had to compose myself a little and asked again what he offered. I won't discuss the price but know the amount he will make off selling 4 cards alone in one of my commander decks would be the amount he just offered, but needing the cash for gas to get to work I gritted my teeth and accepted, realizing I would get anymore from h since he already saw me as some who probably googled the words on the box, or put magic the gathering in search and memorized some stuff. Wrong, instead I asked about if they hold anything MTG related like commander Friday and he said they did, so I took advantage of that to snag a deck I loved away from his greasy fingers and pulled a very rare 20 sided die and said I would come back for that night, which I won't be doing, and accepted the offer, kicking myself and knowing I can't reverse it. The amount of greasy smugness radiating off this guy made me want to scrub myself with a wire brush knowing he knew he just "got an amazing haul from this idiot! What was he thinking!" and ushered me out as fast as he could, even when I tried asking about some table top stuff. These are the type of people who have ruined what tcg shops used to be about, community and working with other shops to keep the hobby going and teach people about the game and not keep the neck bearded dungeon nerds vibe alive. I doubt this will help anyone but if one person reads a little and changes their mind to not promote a den of deceit then I will be happy. read more

Mugu Game is a throwback to another age of gaming. An age where you only set up shop so your buddies and you can try and fund your Magic or Miniatures fascination. Where just walking in the front door, you feel like you're in a vast cavern meant for somebody else's perusal. Where the informal setting breeds a clique mentality of Owner, Owner employees, Owner friends, and loner regulars, pitted against the purchasing 'masses'. By 'masses', I do refer to the trickle of customers that, while a necessary evil for any establishment that *has* to have a door and... well, sell stuff... only need be greeted in passing, and then dutifully ignored until said customer departs and you, sacred owner and buddies, breathe a sigh of relief. My visit prompted me a greeting from a lone voice in the back, barely audible over the sound of profanities being uttered like a Cyclops in a windstorm. "F this" and "F that", over and over, by the counter personnel. Ignoring the discourtesy, I wound around to the back of the store, which admittedly is more spacious than a warehouse. Game selection was sufficient, and the prices doubly so. In fact, they were so outlandishly overpriced that it almost begs the question whether they simply stock the games at high prices just so they can maintain the appearance of fullness while not having to restock the shelves (that is, after all, time taken away from profanity laced tirades). I heard a faint "Thanks for coming in" as I left, so it was heartwarming to know that, as long as I never entered the store, bought anything, or in any other way put them to the imposition of an apathy free customer facing exchange, I would be considered worthy of greeting. One star for the faint hello/goodbye, and one star for a selection of games sufficient enough to not be considered a token gesture. I am very glad I didn't bring my young son into the store. I let him go to the store next door. He would feel out of place, not having been well versed in the profane. Mox. Zulus. Around the Table. Even Uncles. Any place is better than this throwback to the musty, dusty, creepy days of boardgaming stores. Go here to see what you don't have to endure. I went into the shop for the first time and had a bad experience, the second time was similar. Good: Selection (On some items) Store Layout Gaming Space Bad: Service is terrible No returns, only store credit Prices on some items are way out of line I went in, first time, wanting to purchase three things. A MTG commander deck, some dice and perfect fit side loading sleeves. You can find the 2017 MTG Commander decks all over for $35.99 to $37.99. They wanted upwards of $50 because "They were short printed" ... that's why I can find them everywhere. I didn't purchase one there, instead bought one for $35.99 at Target. I did find and buy the dice I wanted, though their selection of singles was really low, they had tons of sets. They were out of the brand of side loading sleeves I wanted so the clerk directed me to the dragon shield brand. I bough 4 packs of those and the dice. When I got home I realized the sleeves were top loading, not side loading. I picked up the ones I wanted at Uncles Games in Bellevue. Mugu would not let me return the incorrect sleeves that the staff handed to me wrong. So I was forced to buy something else as they only issue store credit for returns. The second time in to try and return the sleeves I couldn't get anyone to help me and when they did the kid was just really disinterested. My son asked about anything Yu-Gi-Oh and they said they didn't have any. A few seconds of looking found some packs with dice... All in all, god selection but really bad service. There are much better shops like this around with way friendlier people. read more

Went here for a Star Wars Destiny prerelease. That was a mistake. The guys working there were rude (to put it lightly) and did everything they could to avoid customers so they could keep chatting. They made you buy a "random" starter pack for the event, which meant giving you a Kylo starter off a giant stack. I'd definitely recommend plenty of other less depressing game shops to go to with less attitude. read more

Either the owner enjoys pushing how much money he can charge customers or this store has the highest markup I have ever seen for Magic: the Gathering cards. I was charged $3.00 for a $0.30 card (which is a bit much, but within my tolerance for "pay for immediacy") and $20 for a $10 card. I drew the line when the shop owner was asking $9.00 for a card that sells online at $0.26. I genuinely feel scammed and will neither be returning to that shop, nor will I be recommending them. read more

Most of my game store evaluations are based on how the store's board game selection is. That is my particular hobby of interest. Mugu Games recently moved into a much larger space and when that happened they increased their board game selection significantly. It still isn't the best in Snohomish County, but there is a good balance of classic and the new hotness. This store focused primarily on miniature games. They have a TON of table space and I've never visited and not seen someone painting or playing with minis. The walls are lined with figures of various gaming systems. They also run the obligatory Magic: The Gathering tournaments and have a decent card selection. Staff is not the friendliest I've ever encountered but they also have never been rude to me. As with a lot of local game stores, the staff spends a lot of their time playing games and/or painting minis. This can be a pain when you need someone to check you out and feel as if you're bothering them. Personally, I feel the moment a customer walks in the staff should stop what they're doing, but at Mugu they usually wait until you're standing at the counter ready to pay. Along with more room, the move to a new location brought a lot more parking space. This was very badly needed and I'm thrilled about it. Overall, this is a solid store and one of the best in the area. Take that with a grain of salt, though, because compared to some of the stores closer and into Seattle itself this is not in the same league at all. read more

The store looks quite interesting, and has a large amount of games and miniatures. I was looking forward to getting involved in some gaming there! I came in today to get a boxed game and inquire about open gaming, was greeted by the staff person in a friendly manner. The boxed game was much higher than online and I would have paid the difference to support a local store.... BUT. I continued to inquire to the long bearded staff person (owner?) about open gaming but was getting stopped before i could finish my question with.. constant rebuttals; " NO, no, no... no to everything... you should just buy it on amazon.. " I was confused as he simply wrote me off as a customer cause i said something about buying a game online! I replied that my question wasn't answered and replied that I should just go... ya know I'm a polite and professional person but getting treated like that will cause me to never ever set foot in that store or its affiliations again. Do not go to this location. Staff did nothing when I caught people cheating at a major event. The owner himself double charged me for cards ( didn't catch till I checked receipt) staff made me wait for 45 minutes to get my my product while I watched him help other people ( was trying to spend 200 dollars). I went to Mugu Games today (9/2/13) with a friend and within 5 minutes it became our new game store. We play Warhammer and Warmachine, they have a very large selection to choose from and the layout is great. There's quite a lot of space for open gaming, including tables for MTG, Warhammer and Warhammer. Also, everything I checked was priced 20% off! Their customer service was great as well. The staff greeted us as we entered and asked if we needed help. Since we didn't they left us to our own devices. As we made our purchases (WH40K stuff) they didn't try to upsell any crap or give their opinions on different armies. But they did engage us and invited us to look into upcoming tournaments. So in short; great prices, great selection, great layout, and great service. read more

I purchased a brand new Malifaux set today (Guilty as Charged) and when I got home I found only one sprue inside, meaning half of the pieces were missing for a $45 set. I called the store immediately and was told to contact the manufacturer because the store "doesn't get anything" for returns. The store itself was huge and impressive with massive gaming tables filling the room, and the walls were covered in a wide selection. I wasn't spoken to until I went to check out, and there were people cursing loudly while playing games. The store was clean and orderly, but there were long extension cables on the ground I had to avoid. I want this review to be fair, so I'm giving a 2 for a huge selection, sweet game tables, and clean store. I'm giving -3 for the atmosphere, service, and damaged items policy, as well as the way the policies were explained. Personally, I won't be back. read more

Great place. Plenty of space, parking, AC, supplies, games, miniatures, cards, etc. Good location. Probably the best game shop in Everett.

They have a nice selection, whereas some of the other eight gaming / hobby shops in what a mile radius (?) are way too small to even compete. They are not BobaKhan Toys, but I went there because BobaKhan recommended them for some of the gaming stuff we needed that BobaKhan doesn't carry. They called ahead for me so I found Mugu quickly. The MUGU staff member that I dealt with was very helpful and got us set up quickly with what my son needed. If my son ever wants to play there, I think he'd find it a fun atmosphere. I also think that they have some nice games that are harder to find, so people into RPG should definitely check this place out! read more

Friendly staff, large selection, and their new location is fantastic. The one issue I had previously was the lack of parking, and the guys have found a place that can cater to MANY people. I have bee going to game shops for many years, and I have determined that they all fall into three categories: The first is a "game shop" that is strictly a retail concern, where it's all about the bottom line and the employees are mostly clueless about specific games. I don't like these because it's difficult to make decisions about spending 80 bucks on a game when the seller can't tell you anything about it. The other end is a game shop run by a gamer who has decided that he would like a full time place to play with his friends, so he opens a game store on a shoestring budget. These guys know a lot, but you might need to wait 20 or 30 minutes to buy something because they are playing a game or something, and there are many times when you want to buy something but they are out of stock Finally, there is the gamer with a business outlook. MuGu seems to fit nicely into this category. I have never had to wait needlessly for someone - if there is a wait it's because they are serving a customer ahead of me. They are very knowledgeable about what they stock. I have traded and sold cards here, and they are very fair as to their buyback pricing. Their retail prices match or even undercut most other places in the Everett area, and they keep a descent inventory. All in all, MuGu is a great place to spend an afternoon, has great prices, a good location and great guys running the place. read more

I can't go here anymore. I used to come in to play magic, but hearing the Owner complain loudly to customers about other customers they had in the past (And BY NAME!) makes me really uncomfortable. How do I know he doesn't say horrible things about me? The owner seems to want your money but not you. They also used to have fun tournaments several times per week and lots of people would show up. Now they are lucky to get even 8 players. I buy my magic cards where I play to support the store, but I won't be playing here anymore and I won't be buying cards here either. read more

Mugu has moved since my last post, and they seemed to have improved. Catering to the miniature crowd they have like 12 4x6 tables you can go in and play anytime. Use their scenery etc. They have the new gaming mats too. Mostly Star wars X-wing/Armada and of course Warhammer abounds. Its ok though as much as i cant stand warhammer there seems to be enough tables to go around and the staff and players are freindly and well balanced. Some boeing guys and regulr people mixed in with the "gamers" LOL They try to keep it 21+ which is nice and only decent kids/teens are allowed to play. Im not saying they wont allow your kid in there but he better behave! Kudos to Mugu! I think i finally found a good place to play heroclix, star wars minis, and more! read more

It's been awhile since I have visited the shop, but I've utilized their website and have even contacted them a few times by email. I've been disappointed with the return contacts (Once, it seemed to take a couple days for them to get back to me,) and the person returning my email simply stated that they didn't know the answer to my question. I don't want to pass too much judgement on that, BUT they should have at least one person who knows MTG well enough to be able to give a partial answer. I've also been expecting them to update their website since the last time I visited it, but after checking today, they still haven't done so, despite being several sets behind on their online MTG Singles availability. I'm still willing to refer people to the physical location and come in myself, but I may discontinue use of their website in favor of other websites. read more

Mugu hosts magic Tournaments, Warhammer Tournaments, and Warmachine Tournaments. Overall its a great place to go to for competition, and socializing. Most nights there are anywhere between 20 and 30 people in on any given night, playing games of all sorts. The Atmosphere has definitely improved since they got rid of the other manager who was too argumentative and left a lot of my friends with a bad taste in their mouth. For the most part the other customers are great and outgoing, and are more than willing to help out to learn a game. The Parking does suck, just don't park in the Marked spots for the other stores and its fine. I sometimes park around the building down the hill, But I don't mind walking a bit for some exercise. read more

This is the premium game shop in Everett (and now in Smokey Point end of Marysville too). If you play warhammer, magic, bolt action, x-wing, or the like, check this place out. As an avid warhammer hobbyist, I am always ecstatic to see their selection. The shop contains walls of boardgames and model kits. Full glass counter of magic singles. The works. I pre-ordered a Magic the Gathering Battle for Zendikar booster box and 2 fat packs on their website. The price of the pre-order was about $202 with tax, and it gave me the option of paying in store. I opted to pay in store as I was going there to pick up the items anyway. On the day of the release I went to the store to pay and get my packs. The employee behind the counter told me I owed $202 dollars so I gave him my card to pay. The owner came up and told him that the price was wrong and that the $202 was only for the pre-paid price of the product, and proceeded to charge me $20 more. The website clearly stated that this was a pre-order price, and if the price would be different when paying in store, it should have stated it on the website. While I was there the owner mentioned that the computer system that they used also over booked the amount of pre-ordered sets. I told him to cancel the order and walked out. I do not recommend doing business with MTG, you will eventually get screwed. read more
