This was my first time ever at a gun range. My sister and I did the beginner Groupon class with instructor, Bob. I specifically wanted to do a class because I had no prior knowledge on gun usage. He was a great teacher and guided us through the whole process. I learned a lot and will continue to use what I learned from Bob. I definitely recommend the Groupon class for beginners. I've come here multiple times to both purchase ammo (2x) and use the range facilities (2x). Each one of those times I had generally poor experiences. Just from walking in the building, it is possible you will feel unwelcome. Nobody greets you and the employees look unhappy. The day I came last week, I walked into an nearly empty showroom with around 4 employees behind the counter. I waited around the employees for about five minutes, and nobody even asked me if I needed help with anything? Mind you, this was at a time where there were no other customers in the showroom. At any other business, the employee will at least ask "Can I help you?". The first time, I went to use the range and was talked to like I was an idiot by the older man at the range counter. At that point I was a inexperienced gun owner and was asking a few questions about the procedures to use the range. His response had attitude and was as if I was annoying him with my questions and I walked out of the building being made to feel like I was stupid. Also regarding the range, it looks very poor. It looks like a bunch of pieces of plywood nailed together (which is what is is). I've come here knowing I would get poor service, with the idea that their slightly lower prices (range time) would make it worth it. The prices aren't even much cheaper than competitors ($5-$10 difference?) However, I will not be visiting Article II Range and store anymore. If it wasn't for the underlying enormous demand for firearms in the past few years, I don't think they would stay in business. On a last note, I am aware that there are some good friendly employees in this store. The bad employees, however, (which seems to be most of them, at least most of the older employees) overshadow any of the nice employees and I find it difficult to want to come back to a place of business where I don't feel welcome. read more

I came here for the first time with my Conceal Carry License class for range qualifying. They have a really nice range. So far it's the nicest one I have been to in the Chicagoland area. They have a fairly well organized oversized showroom which is great if you are interested in purchasing a firearm. The range is capable of using high powered rifles (I don't know how specific) this is great since the other ranges I have been to Do Not have the capability to allow customers to shoot those rifles. The staff was straight to the point. I can see how some could see that as "Not Friendly". The thing I kept in mind is that they are more concerned about everyone's safety than how joyful the experience might be. I can appreciate that since I rather walk out of there in one piece instead of praising how much fun I had. The guys are very knowledgeable. I will be coming back. Check it out. read more

When you first walk in, you view a bunch of guns in glass cabinets in order to pick your weapon of choice. The staff was friendly enough when helping us pick out our guns. They gave me a gun, that in my opinion, could have been used by a baby. It sounded like a popgun, but it was a good start for a beginner. My husband and son chose one that was a little louder, with bigger bullets. We had a glock and some other handgun. Sorry - I didn't pay attention to what they were called - I just wanted to blow stuff away! (I'm not crazy or anything - I just need to blow of steam...) Then, we chose our target sheets - ZOMBIES!! We grabbed some ear protection and went on in. There were a few range slots open, so we grabbed the first one we saw. My husband shot first - to give us an idea of how it sounded - and WOW! I've never been so grateful for ear protection! I felt it shake in my chest! Not to brag, but when it was my turn I shredded that zombie's head all up. Well, I put a few holes in it at least. Maybe I should have shot straight across his neck to completely decapitate him? I mean, that's how you kill a zombie, right?!? My son, who was 18 at the time, had never shot a gun, and he loved it!! He's pretty cautious and meticulous with everything he does, so to see him let loose and shoot a gun was awesome. So my bestie purchased a Groupon for this place. We always said we want to go to the range, and today was the day. One of the best stress releases a girl could have. The instructor was Andy,and he knows his way around a gun or two. Very knowledgeable and helpful during the hour experience. He explained how to use and load a semi automatic and a revolver to us before we stepped into the actual range. I will NEVER return to Article II Range. The first time I went was wonderful. Second time I walk through the door I was a nightmare! I walked in and was greeted by one gentleman then was extremely confused and felt degraded by another employee. As I walked in I was asked what I was coming in for. I told him I wanted to rent and shoot. Well apparently that's a big No No if you are alone. (Understandable now) in the moment the guy told me I can't shoot alone because it was suspicious that I was there alone and wanted to shoot.. Then proceeded to explain that I could shoot myself. Told me I was a liability and was rude to me when I asked for elaboration. I didn't argue but was very uneasy with his tone and aggressive way of explaining the rules (that are not posted on the web but supposedly posted all over the inside of the store) I was told to leave and go get a friend to come back and shoot with. I left the Range and decided to call in and talk to a manager about this guy's treatment and verify what he was saying to make sure I was not being discriminated against. The first guy answered I asked for a manager and was put on hold... Dear god the rude guy got on the phone and started to talk bad to me again. I did ask him if he was the manager he stated he was not and proceed to talk down to me over the phone! The way I see it is I am the one looking to spend money. Rule are Rule and I was looking for verification. I told this guy that I will never do business here again and he told me "That's Great, good for you!" I came here on a whim as someone I bought a firearm from wouldn't ship to my county. I liked this place. Employee were a fun group of characters. All were really nice good people as far as I could tell. Maybe spent an extra 15-20 mins just talking about guns with the guys. Not at all a pushy sales place. Seemed like everyone cared about what your philosophy of use is and Your price range. My minor con is that gun prices and transfer prices are a little high but that's to be expected at an Illinois based gun shop and the selection was limited If you're into high end guns ($1000-$3000+ range)....which I totally get not everyone wants a crazy expensive gun. They did have a good selection of guns people want and sells well. These are minor complaints as everything was inline with other gun shops. Definitely will return to try out the range. If I had to guess the range is their biggest draw, followed by the gun shop, and then FFL transfers. I thought it was a great local business to support. Highly recommended experience. read more

My boyfriend bought him and I a Groupon for the beginners class here. Our instructor was Andy and he was friendly and knowledgeable about all of the questions I had. He was also sensitive to the fact that I had never shot a gone before (let alone held one) and that I was a little bit nervous. There was also Gregg was one of the employees in the store (not on the range). He was also great at easing my nerves when I first walked in. Once I got more comfortable shooting and handling the guns, he showed me all types of other guns, what they're used for and their ammo. Prior to coming into Article II everything I knew about guns came from handling guns with my uncle who is a collector. I wouldn't call myself an expert, there is a lot to know, I do intend to pursue a more in depth understanding of handling and safety and ultimately getting my Conceal & Carry! My first visit to Article II was amazing!! The moment my boyfriend and I entered the facility we were greeted and so warmly welcomed. They weren't extremely busy at that time but there were several customers in the showroom and the range area had some traffic. My boyfriend and I decided coming in with the intention of purchasing a gun for our home. Jay introduced himself and engaged us by showing us over a dozen guns that would fit with our needs. We must have spent an hour with him, he knows what he's talking about and is genuinely interested in helping potential buyers. After talking with Jay we were convinced to rent a gun and spend some time on the range! I thought Jay was extremely informative and considerate, giving me the same amount of (if not more) consideration and attention as my boyfriend. The range area is pretty sweet, the guys working at the time were welcoming and considerate! Being a girl I feel like I got a little extra attention and it was great! I feel like the guys went out of the way for me to go in the range completely prepared to enjoy myself and I did! After spending time in the range we returned our rental gun to Jay and he showed us more guns! We talked for another 10-15 minutes and needless to say we found a gun that would be perfect for our home! We returned the next weekend and they were totally packed! The sales area was filled with customers and coincidentally Jay spotted us and we were on route to becoming gun owners! We picked up our gun and Jay then equipped us with the right accessories and a cleaning kit! Jay made everything so easy for us and we are so thankful! Went today with my son, we rented a 1911 as well as being some of our guns. Very friendly, helpful and clean. There was a class going on the range. We had a nice talk with the instructor about what he was training the people in. When we checked out the next man who helpers us was great also. Before leaving the man who checked us in came up to me and asked how thing were and did we like the 1911. He made sure we were goos with everything as we left. Great experience. read more

My first experience at this range was for a beginner's lesson for two purchased via Groupon. Before visiting Article II, my only other experience at a target range was during childhood with my grandfather. So I had no idea what to expect here. But without walking through the entire experience, I can gladly say that from beginning to end it was run very professionally. We could tell that our instructor Al has given countless lessons here because he covered through the instructional portion on handling & safety at just the right pace and with just the right amount of detail. At the same time, during the shooting portion he made us comfortable despite our minimal experience, and was enthusiastic when we did well. The front desk worker was also friendly and patient in spite of me needing a few extra minutes to figure out how to redeem the lesson voucher on my phone. Although I've been a FOID card holder since I was a teenager, I'm still a newbie when it comes to guns. I've been to a shooting range once or twice in my life, but that was nearly a decade ago. That changed a few months ago when a few Yelpers put together a shooting event at Article II and I was able to tag along! Article II is located in an industrial area of Lombard off North Avenue. The lot is small, so expect parking to be cramped on busy days. Inside, it's a completely different world! When you walk in, you'll see an entire room of guns for sale. In this room, you sign up and pay for your lane (highly recommend you reserve ahead of time). Since I had a FOID card, all I had to do was sign some paper and pay for my portion of the lane rental. Easy peasy. I don't know if it's that easy for non-FOID card holders, but I do know that I was able to let one non-FOID card holder accompany me. We had four lanes for about eight of us (four had FOID cards), which was perfect. You can rent guns ($12 for the first handgun or long gun, $6 for each additional gun) or bring your own. I don't have any of my own, but some people in our group did, so we shared. You're also required to wear eye and ear protection. I didn't have the proper eye protection, but fortunately, I was able to rent that ($1). Once we were ready to go, we hung out in the [large] waiting area just beyond the gun room until our lanes were open. The lanes were nice. Sure, shells littered the ground, but there was enough room to move about with others inside the lanes. No complaints from me. So.. I'm kind of scared of the bigger guns. I'm not gonna lie. I spent most of my time shooting the smaller revolvers and watching everyone else shoot rifles and handguns. But.... wow.... I really did love shooting the guns I tried. And after we left, I kind of regretted not trying the other ones. It was two hours very well spent, though. I was pretty excited to bring home a target that had a perfect shot to the heart!! I'm lethal, baby! I don't know when I'll go to a shooting range again, but I hope it's not another ten years down the road. Now that concealed carry is allowed in Illinois, I might be picking up a gun again very soon. Don't mess with me. ;) read more

Came here the other day for a UYE that John S put together. I missed the last one but was definitely not going to miss this one. Article II is a great range with a tremendous selection. It's nice to see a shooting range that actually has ammo on the shelf! I met a great group of people and got to share some lane time with John, Tim, Chris, Candice, and a few others. It was a great intimate group and Article II worked with us to get us an area of 4 shooting lanes next to each other. The range safety officers were extremely helpful and kept checking to see if our group was having a good time. For the price, selection, choice of targets, and cleanliness, Article II cannot be beat! It was awesome to help a few Yelpers learn to shoot and watch first time shooters have a blast! Candice was a great shot and picked it up faster than most I've shot with! read more

$20 for time on the range. Be prepared to wait if you come on the weekend, though. Make sure you bring snacks and entertainment. They do have a vending machine if you don't want to leave. I waited for over 2 hours on a Sunday afternoon before I got to shoot. The parking lot also filled up, but we were able to find a spot. The waiting area was pretty big. There weren't enough chairs during the peak hour, but we got a seat after 20 minutes. The arm chairs smelled kinda funny, so don't breath in too deep. The people that work there were pretty nice and helpful. You can watch other people shoot through the windows. I saw a couple of stalls that were out of order when I was there. The target holder on the stall I was in stopped working after an hour so we shared the stall with our friends the rest of the time. They have pretty cool looking zombie targets for sale at the registration desk. read more

Well this was a random Thursday night excursion! I'm always up for trying new things and while shooting a gun wasn't exactly on my bucket list, I decided to give it a try. The parking lot is annoying and the place isn't pretty, but what do people expect??! It's a gun range! I figured there wouldn't be plush seating, champagne flights and lush carpeting. Then again I don't have anything to compare it to so if there is a fancier gun range, do tell! Champagne flights and firearms probably aren't a good mix though. We had a reservation so we didn't have to wait too long. I will admit, I jumped upon entering the range and hearing the loud shots! My friend loaded up the gun and gave me a brief lesson on how to use it and position myself. I was terrified, to be honest. The thought of holding something that could kill someone took over, so I just watched until my courage came back. I swear, I'm not usually that much of a baby! The first shot was a bit scary, but it became easier and you know what? It was somewhat empowering. I also had pretty good aim the first time around! If I were to go back, I'd use a smaller gun. We used a revolver which was too big for these dainty hands and the recoil was a bit much. No pink gun for me though. Homie don't play dat! read more

This review is strictly for their range. I didn't really get to experience their customer service since I just went for the range time. Will update when I interact with them little more. It's been a long time since I've gotten around shooting, probably 4 years? Acquired 2 more Glocks (19 and 27) so I was itching to shoot some rounds down the range. This place is great for reserving a lane online. I reserved the time for 4pm and head down with receipt in hand. After quick check in, I don my double hearing protection and shooting glasses and head in to the range(which was needed since someone was blasting a something really loud in few lanes down next to mine). One of the downside of a indoor range is that the muzzle blast echoes in every direction so it's highly advisable to wear ear plugs plus muffs. I was hitting 9s and Xs on standard b-27 target with both 9 and 40s, which I thought was pretty damn good, considering how long it has been. Although that sub-compact G27 kicks a bit, I had a blast shooting. Don't expect a state of the tech shooting range. Range is supposed to be loud, reaks of gun powder and empty casings everywhere. Grab a broom, push the casings into the range, reload your magazine and have fun. Reserving range time via online is smart and I'm sure I will use that function alot. I'm a fan, I might even become a annual member! Come on people! Let's all join the #pewpew life! read more

They remind me of that cool uncle that is into guns who is really cool with you but you're a little scared of him and you respect him a ton. Staff here really has an amazing attitude. Super Fun! Article II Range (Gun World) is tucked away off some side streets north of North Ave. I came here with a group from Law Weapons & Supply. We brought our own guns and ammo. Good deals on targets if you buy them there -- 5 for $1 for the standard bull-eye and 3 for $1 for the silhouette of a person. There are other targets to choose from. Bring cash as the register in the back (where you buy the targets) does not accept credit cards. The register up front DOES accept credit cards, I believe. Don't forget about the amusement tax in addition to the price of range time. Plan for that marginal cost as well. Article II Range has eye and ear protection you can rent for your use while there. I heard you can also rent guns for your use, but have not had first-hand experience with this. The shooting booths are cozy and have the standard operating knobs to bring your target forward/back. The booth area is slightly dimly lit, but considering this was my first gun range I've ever been to, not sure if this is standard or not. The Article II Range shop is really extensive! They have a wide selection. A few hours could easily fly by as you peruse their selection of guns. I might return. Good to have this place as one of the options for gun ranges in the area. read more

This place is hidden. I got my FOID card which was encouraged by my hubby. Ladies, if you like a man that can protect you in self defense, then this is a place to check out. It was packed on a Thursday night with guys young and old checking out the store and waiting in line to pay for the shooting range. I don't care much of the location, it's so dark at night when you first drive here. The parking lot is not car friendly...it's gravel and dark. You have to park on the side of the building or in the back. I've been to another shooting range in Lock Port and their place was a bit more friendly and welcoming. But I went here during the day. Not only was my instructor Bob knowledgeable on every aspect of safety and instructions on how to stand, load and the proper way of shooting a gun!! I snagged a groupon for this place for the boy and I. Customer service was good. A little hiccup at the computer station. But I liked our safety and gun training because I liked the way Mike spoke to us. Clear, frank and practical. The actual gun range time was good. We both had two tries with the revolver and the 22. Mike was there the entire time and provided tips on how to shoot better. The gun range was a bit dirty in terms of leftover casings everywhere. Overall, I'm happy with the experience and I would recommend it to anyone remotely interested in guns or even for a fun date night! Went up here on a Thursday 6-8pm only had a 30min wait. Only the 2nd indoor range I've been to but I liked it. For it being winter in Chicago burbs what more can you ask for. Free coffee unlimited time decent air ventilation. Update: 2nd visit on a Monday 5pm no wait, I was all set up and in my lane within 5 min of walking in. Stayed 2hours with no issues. Avoid like the plague. I've been there twice now, since I moved to the area last year. Most recently, I brought my girlfriend and went to the counter to ask about renting a gun for the range. The guy looks at me and rudely tells me to "check my weapon" when he took the gun out of the case. It took me a minute to figure out exactly what he meant, and he proceeds to (while looking directly at my girlfriend) belittle me, telling me over and over that "I failed". Failed WHAT!? The gun was in the glass display case just before he took it out! Never mind that I've had my FOID card for over a decade and was taught how to handle a gun...I "FAILED". What an asshole. Like almost everyone else that works there. They treat new people horribly. I'm never going back. Even the one nice guy that works on the range side doesn't make it worthwhile. It could be a pretty great place if the staff weren't so blatantly disrespectful. read more

I've been attending this range for several months now, and it's always been a great experience. The staff is very knowledgeable and adhere to all safety regulations. They, in fact, are overly cautious, which is exactly what you want in a business like this. Regarding the negative comments about poor customer service and negative attitudes...Look, you're at a gun range, where EVERYTHING has to be serious. I wouldn't expect happy go-lucky daisies working at a place like this. I fully expect them to be serious, blunt, overly cautious, and forceful with rules. For the people complaining that they were kicked out for rule violations...Sorry, but not sorry. These guys have to be beyond careful, or they lose everything, even potentially putting people at risk. Take it with a grain of salt. Either learn your lesson or go to another range, where I guarantee you will either be treated the same or worse. read more

Been shooting here occasionally over the years and there's some good things to say about this place: admission prices are reasonable admission process is pretty quick and as far as that goes this place does pretty well. But there are a lot of things this place needs to do to improve: -customer service: seriously half your staff acts like they don't want to be there they are very cold and make asking questions seem stupid. I was there today and the gentleman who was responsible for putting people on the range just wasn't very personable or approachable. I get that this is a repetitive job and probably boring but seriously please at least try to care and try not to rub off negatively on your customers -ventilation: ventilation upgrade is a clear and glaring need for improvement every time I have left this place my hands are black and every time I blow my nose the tissues are also black...this is the only gun range I've ever been to where this is a problem Please consider improving these 2 areas of your range and I'll come back more often it's got great potential and has some good perks but improvement in these areas is a must read more

Apparently, you are only allowed to own a 9mm. Anything else is beneath them... and "stupid" The staff here are Rude and not very knowledgeable...I would recommend going anywhere but here... The range on 355 was amazing. Felt like real customer service and very knowledgeable staff. read more
