This year I took the plunge and take Latin and ballroom dancing. Of course I expected to learn the steps, but I had no idea how much I'd get out of it physically and mentally. It's so rewarding to advance through to more complicated steps. I get the same elation after dancing that I'd get from running and cycling. After every lesson, I think "holy cow, I did something fancy!" When the pandemic hit and industries that included dance studios closed, missing the dance lessons and the people from the studio was the hardest thing to get used to. Even worse than losing a job. I needed the escape, the music, the motion, and the kind people. Arthur Murray's Dallas-area studios quickly embraced social media and posted lessons and tips, and when they could reopen, they went above and beyond to allow us to safely return to learning dance. Being able to escape and worry only about keeping time or improving an under-arm turn has helped me stay grounded during these unsettled times. read more

I started with Arthur Murray Dallas studios back in 2002. They have certainly changed my life and have kept me going in these unusual times we live in today. I started taking in person lessons as soon as they would let me come back into the studio. They are very conscious of keeping both students and teachers safe. We wear masks, wash our hands between lessons, and get temperature checks. I will say that I don't think I could have coped with all that has been thrown my way these past couple months without their positive light. read more

COVID has changed my life in several ways, but I've been able to count on Arthur Murray to remain a constant and help me navigate this new normal while feeling confident that the staff is doing everything in their power to keep everyone safe. Each person's temperature is checked upon arrival, they keep the amount of people in the studio at one time at a minimum, everyone wears a mask, hands are washed and surfaces wiped down between lessons and there is always hand sanitizer available. The short time that the studio closed was hard. I've been an Arthur Murray student since 2012 and each time in the studio has been something to look forward to every week. As soon as they opened their doors up again, I couldn't wait to get back. Certain measures may have changed, but I understand it's for everyone's safety and it hasn't changed the essence of being in the studio. I lost my job at the beginning of the pandemic, but being back in the studio allows me to still have something to look forward to and goals to meet. During the pandemic, my teachers have done a fantastic job of keeping my dancing progressing virtually. They have a vantage point they normally don't have while dancing with you and can see areas that need work. Dancing without a partner has forced me to become more independent, made me much more aware of floor alignment and body position, and required me to improve my control and balance. I'm still having fun dancing and I'm grateful to be able to continue improving while staying in touch with my teachers and the studio. read more

GO GET YOUR FREE LESSON AND LEAVE. My fiancé and I decided to take dance lessons we visited this studio and they wanted us to do a consultation lesson to see where we were. After the consultation with Alex Brittany, the manager, said the lessons would be $600 we asked Brittany about the groupon online for two lessons for $48- she lied and said that it didn't exist. When we bought the groupon and went back driving from an hour away they said we had already used one of our lessons. How did we use one of the two "lessons" before we bought the lessons? These people are very unprofessional and hard to work with. We plan to bring our wedding party somewhere to learn and it will definitely not be here. I would not recommend anyone going here. I purchased a Groupon for the Dallas location and had a great time in our initial private lesson. To clarify on private lesson it means you have an instructor dedicated to you but you are on a public floor with others. Out instructor was great. After the class there is a fairly high pressure sales pitch to buy a class package (in the $600 range) which we declined. It's a lot like going to a gym for a free personal trainer session. We then did a Social dance class with another amazing instructor but I was uncomfortable having to change partners. We learned a lot more in the Social class than in our individual class. NOTE: This top section is an update, 3 weeks after my original review was written (which has been kept at the bottom unedited). Following fairly scathing reviews by my fiancé and I after a subpar experience with the studio, their Director of Services, Amy, reached out to me directly. This was a rare example of AMAZING customer service! Not only did she (with the Dallas studio's approval) offer us 4 more complimentary lessons, she: 1) allowed us to combine them into two longer lessons to get more momentum per session, and 2) Allowed us to use the studio on a day they were normally closed, ensuring privacy. I fully realize that these types of arrangements cannot be offered to every customer and I do not want readers to think they can just demand these stipulations. However, what I can say is that these lessons were ten times more productive! We learned 3 different steps instead of one and had a great time doing it. Special thanks to Bailey and Ryan for taking time that is normally a day off for them to work with us! The Revised Bottom Line: With the right instructors and setting, these are very productive and very worthwhile lessons. We are much more prepared and relaxed going into the wedding. This does not completely erase our original experience though, and since the lessons in and of themselves are fairly pricey, my review adjusts to 3 stars and not higher. Please see below my original review: The Setting: 4 lessons with my fiancé purchased as a package and used over a two month period. The Free consult: The gentleman we first worked with was great. Down to earth, flexible, seemed reasonable. Changed our song and cut it to a specific time when we asked. But as the Manager of the instructors, we did not work with him after the consult. That is when everything seemed to not occur as advertised... The Lessons: We paid about $400 for "4 hours" of "private" lessons. Private it was not. There's no private space, just one noisy, heavily-trafficked room you share with other couples and group classes. You can't even dance to your own song. We only did so 3 times over 4 lessons. My fiancé complained about this constantly and even posted a review similar to this on The Knot. Unfortunately, things did not change over the 4 lessons. But it probably would have been ok had we actually learned and drilled some valuable steps during the lessons....the absolute worst part is how little we learned because they waste so much time - mostly trying to get more money out of you. They only let us dance for about 20 min each 50 min lesson and only taught us 2 steps after 4 hours!! We learned more on youtube hour for hour. I wish I had read reviews before outlaying this cash. Multiple people have said the same thing - the goal of Arthur Murray is to sell you more lessons, not teach you to dance beautifully on your wedding day. The Instructors: After thinking about it for awhile, we have no ill will for the instructors themselves, they were very nice people, and it seemed as though they were well meaning. Patrick remembered who we were when we showed up, asked engaging questions, and genuinely seemed interested in our wedding. The problem was that they spent so much time chatting that we were not able to accomplish much. This wouldn't have been an issue if the lessons were 90 minutes. The Bottom Line: I would encourage anybody to take dance lessons before the wedding, just not from Arthur Murray. Trust me - you can do better in terms of what you get for your money (in time and in quality). This is the only time pre-wedding we've felt gouged (and we all know how bad wedding gouging can be). read more

Everyone was incredibly nice and i totally understand that dancing is a skill you keep for life but this place was more expensive than a majority of my college coruses! LIke i am talking $800 dollars for 6 45 minute private lessons!? Not worth it to me but to someone else I am sure you can learn a ton here. read more

This is a fun place to be! The staff here are very qualified, very friendly and full of energy! They really care about your progress as you are learning to dance. And, you gain so much more than learning to dance here. The whole process helps build confidence, brings new friends and provides an opportunity for practice and socialization. The atmosphere is very positive and energetic. This is a good place for both adults and youth. Ballroom dance lessons have helped my child be more confident and more socially accomplished. The studio is beautiful and the instructors seemed nice. I always like driving by it at night, because you can see the graceful dancers from the highway. My fiance and I went in happily for a wedding dance consultation, and came out in tears. Our consultant ended our conversation by telling my fiance what my wedding dress looked like, and continued discussing it even when I asked her to stop. She did ask what my dress looked like at the beginning and I opted to show her a picture, because I didn't want to discuss it in front of him, and even prefaced showing the picture to her, with my wishes of keeping it a secret. If you are boasting about being in this business for over 25 years, you should also know to keep your mouth shut about the look and feel of the bride's dress. read more
