My wife and I have bought tile here three times for projects in our home in Montclair. Hadn't been there for a few years and recently went back for a fourth time. I learned that the store had changed hands. But from what I can see, it's a nice improvement. We loved the demo areas downstairs, and the selection is as solid as ever. As soon as our contractor gets his act together (not holding my breath) we're going to be buying there once again. This time to redo a bathroom. Earlier, we found some gorgeous slate tile for our fireplace that gets a lot of great comments from friends. So, no reservations recommending this store to other Yelpers. read more

Art Tile leaves something to be desired. Small selection, small showroom, high prices, and I was told it would be a long wait until the tile I was interested in might be ready. My kitchen remodel was already dragging out so I went to some other local stores and I was able to find what I needed at another place with larger inventory. If you have lots of time on your hands, however, this might not be a problem for you. read more

We've been working with Gary and Patrick on an unusual slate backsplash for our new kitchen. After visiting at least 7 tiles shops in the East Bay, and two in the S.F. Design Center, we found that tiles appropriate for an old-fashioned tile countertop are not that easy to find! Both Gary and Patrick have a long history in the tile business, so working with them is a pleasure. They've provided samples and catalogs so we could really imagine the product options. Helpful and experienced - They really care about your project and your happiness. Remodels and renovations are NOT fun but luckily there are businesses like Art Tile that help you get the job done right without headaches. They carry cool artisan tiles and major manufacturers like Porcelanosa and Crossville. And at Art Tile they have the ability to ask a few questions and lead you toward what will fit your budget' and taste and design. We redid 4 bathrooms, kitchen, and an exterior tiled deck so take it from me, Art Tile makes it easier than other places. They are good people. Their expertise was useful since we had multiple rooms to do with multiple manufacturers and every line has their own quirks, including "actual sizes" (11 inches is not actually 11 inches, depending on manufacturer - go figure!). And there's different thicknesses and finishes, and if hand made then slight irregularities. Trust me, you need a tile supplier that knows how to communicate all this and that really works toward your happiness during the process as well as happiness with the results. They understand tile layout options and applications. They anticipate problems for you! They check on lead times. They care and they are patient with you. We dealt with Marta and wonderful Patrick and another fellow and everyone has enough experience and empathy to head you off at the pass if you start to go down a dead end or path that might lead to problems or regret with the final design. But they also size up your taste and needs quickly to guide you down a path towards something that works and that you will be happy with at the end. Everyone there was helpful and friendly but a real measure of customer service is how they help you after the sale. These guys went out of their way to be helpful and to advise. I purchased a tile that when installed we didn't like and they were just great with not only helping us replace it but in doing it fast so our project didn't get delayed. After having a horrible experience at another tile shop in the area, this place was a breath of fresh air! The man who helped us was really nice and seemed to know everything there is to know about the tile they sold. We went in to get something specific (hex tiles for a bathroom floor), and he didn't try to upsell us. He took us to exactly what we needed. We also bought some subway tiles there, and he steered us to the cheaper option for that. We didn't have to wait a long time to be helped. Everyone there was really friendly.
