It was the fall of 1998 and my parents were telling me I needed to get a job, with my mom one day pointing out that this new pizza place was opening. I applied, got the job, and was there basically on day one. Helped with all the initial prep, worked the soft opening. Was initially placed on prep work and dishwasher. Eventually promoted to sandwich maestro and then finally on to pizza. I learned the intricacies of dough crimping. When they introduced new pizzas, I was the one that came up with the Romasil, where it stayed a menu fixture until corporate made them consolidate menus. I worked there until the spring of 2001. Moving onto the greener pastures that were college. Still one of the best jobs I ever had, so much so, that when they opened one up in Owasso, OK, where I steadily took charge. It's probably some of the best pizza I've ever had and it's a must stop on any trip through the area. It is under new ownership, but I don't think anything has really changed. My go to is the Ares (formerly the some like it hot) with the ground beef, pepperoni and jalapenos or the one that has the sausage, mushrooms, black olives and blue cheese. Ordered a pizza takeout. Got to the hospital where we were staying and it was undercooked. Called to explain and was offered an IOU or remake. Would recommend offering a refund and a remake since the customer has to travel twice. Upon arrival (Tuesday June 6th), was greeted nicely. The manager for the evening, I presume, had an employee grab the remade pizza, didn't offer an apology, say hey, or anything to assure this error would be addressed. I opened the box to inspect the pizza this time, burnt and crusty. We will no longer support due to the staff. Food can be remade, but quality employees is also important. read more

Usually great pizza. My sister loves their gluten free crust. Ordered 2 pizzas just after 9 pm tonight. They close at 10. I arrived about 20 min later. Restaurant was empty but the few staff were friendly. Got my pizzas and got home about 10 min later to discover one of the pizzas I ordered was completely wrong. It's and ingredient we don't eat and I wouldn't have accidentally ordered it. Only 1 common topping between mine and that one, tomato. I called and no answer. It's not 10 pm yet so they should be open and answer. There's no contact info to email so I'm here a little frustrated. Fantastic place for lunch or dinner. The server was very friendly and attentive. Our food presentation was superb, everything looked so delicious! Started off with the bruschetta, OMG so flavorful! I didn't want to tear into it, it looked so good, but alas we did and gobbled it up! My George pizza was continued perfection. The hubby got the Gyro salad and it had huge pieces of meat atop it, once again, it was a beautiful presentation. It was busy there, but the service was A+. I hate doing this to Arris as they were once my favorite pizza spot in town. Loved their BBQ Chicken and Beef and Jalapeño pizzas, but unfortunately it has lost its greatness in the last few years. Some of the best Greek Gyros I've had in Springfield. The Gyro is packed so full, I can take half of the meat off and toss it on their Greek salad and easily have 2 meals. Their pizza is loaded with cheese and herbs that are different then most and the toppings are amazing. Where else can you get Greek sausage, gyro meat and feta cheese on a pizza? I'm not from Springfield, and probably will not get a chance to come back to Arris, but the food we had was good, service was acceptable, and we had leftovers! For 4 of us we ordered 2 large pizzas to share. We are all pretty big eaters and I was surprised we may have had a whole pizza left. Both had tons of flavor and were enjoyable. My only complaint would be the wait. It was 8ish on a Friday night, but it was also unseasonably cold and with very little space to actually wait inside the restaurant, we were uncomfortable for about 20 minutes which made the wait seem even longer! read more

Always have loved the pizza here. Went tonight to celebrate my birthday with my wife. Although the food was good if you have an open kitchen, you might want to be aware of this as an employee. My wife saw only 3 people handling food with gloves on and 1 person wiped his nose with his bare hand 3 times!! I didn't realize just how hard he did it but all my toppings were on one side. It was a mess. the sausage is not organized, as good, or the same shape I used to love. Every Wednesday evening, my wife and I journey to this awesome place... We sit in the Annex which is a very cool and comfy part of the restaurant with no children and a cool lounge vibe. Service is awesome, as is the excellent thin crust pizza. We have also really enjoyed the hummus and several of the salads. Full bar, and every Wednesday, there is a half price pizza special. I like the pizza because it reminds me of Pizza House's - thin, salty, not saucy whatsoever - but at the same time, it's a little bit more stiff than Pizza House's. I've only been to Arris in the past year for its Sunday buffet, but it's good quality pizza to get in quick succession. I agree with Ellen H. and friends that the ground beef pizza is unexpectedly awesome - it's slightly, slightly spicy and generally well seasoned, not to mention the ground beef makes it a textural pizza dream. Two thumbs up. The salad bar isn't too shabby either. What keeps me from suggesting Arris Pizza whenever my friends and I are craving pizza is partially the very very south location and the fact that it's a little on the higher end of the price spectrum when it comes to local pizza; that being said, I'd never say no to going. read more

Might have given Arris Pizza a 4-1/2 Star rating. Their table service is fast, efficient and knowledgable. Charity was my server tonight - my first visit. She is very good, btw. Bottled beer selection is fine, served with an ice cold glass. The small garden salad could possibly feed two people and the housemade Greek dressing is very nice. Thin crust as they serve is my preference and was a plus as I didn't know it was their standard. The sauce is a little on the sweet side and the table-wear (fork) could use improvement. We love Arris Pizza and consider it to be the best in town. The pizza is thin-crust and there are numerous unique combinations available. My favorites are the "Black and Bleu" and "Sweet-N-Sassy" (mea/bleu cheese, hawaiian with jalepenos) I think they've changed the names to reflect Greek gods, but those names are still in the description. They also have great salads...my favorite is the berry salad. I'll sometimes get the gyro as well. Everything I've had has been fabulous, and the owners and staff are great people. read more

We went on a Sunday, and it appeared that everyone did the buffet, but we decided to make our own pizza. Order the Bruschetta appetizer! We debated on it, but wow, it was incredibly good. For pizza, we did the Athena but altered the toppings. It was terrific pizza, very cheesy and stringy. The atmosphere is nice and fairly classy for a pizza place. The owner was working, and could not have been nicer! We were the last ones to leave since they close from 2-5 on Sundays, and she told us we could add any of the pizza left over from the buffet to our To Go box if we wanted to try any other kinds. Arris has become a favorite of our family for a number of reasons. First, the customer service is top notch. You rarely get this kind of service anywhere that serves pizza. Second, the menu has something for everyone - appetizers, pizzas, sandwiches & of course dessert. They also have a full bar with a great selection of wines, domestic & imported beers & mixed drinks. But most importantly, they make their pizza crust daily from scratch & use the best of the best fresh ingredients. I liked the food that I had, and since I was hungry, ate quite a bit of it, never thinking what I was eating was bad or even mediocre. Fresh and hot, it's pretty good. The place is really nice, the people who work there were outstanding, and overall, the experience quenched a pizza craving. It's just not fantastic. They seems to specialize in different types of pizzas--all kind of combinations of weird vegetables, mostly--while my son and I just shared some pepperoni; maybe I'm not getting the whole "Greek pizza" experience. I liked it, didn't love it, so it gets three stars. Again, I'll note that I'm used to a higher standard of pizza in Chicago, so this thin-crust, non-mozzarella take baffles me, but I'm sure the locals like it, especially compared to most places in town. read more

I too am a former NY'er and can't believe people are even trying to compare anything in Springfield. There is nothing that compares to NY pizza. And FYI, New York style does not = thin crust. Big misconception here. There was one place near division called New York Pizza which was very close, but everything else in Springfield is terrible. However, the gyros here are great and I go once a week simply to have their Bruschetta appetizer. The best and freshest I have ever had and presented in a very unique way. I am visiting in town. And a lovely man at the organic grocery store in town told me that Arris has cauliflower pizza. Indeed they do! And it is good. They only come to the small crust but that was plenty for one person for dinner. In fact I only ate half of it and that was a bit much to eat anyway. I had green olives, black olives, artichoke hearts and mushrooms with a little extra added parmesan cheese on top. It was really good and I am really full . . . they also have a full tray of desserts. My husband loves cookies so I have ordered two for the road! The service was lovely I had a waitress named, Kaitlyn, and she was perfect. She brought my drinks first and suggested a wine when I couldn't make a decision, based on what she normally sells more of here. Turned out to be a very good choice of the Pinot Noir Sebastiani from California. She also gave me extra napkins. I am generally messy, so this was definitely a plus! read more

I really wish I liked this place more, but every time I go I'm just kind of let down. Maybe it's the high expectations that I have after hearing everyone rave about it. And it's so expensive. I just don't get it. Don't get me wrong, it's not awful. The ingredients are fresh, it has a nice atmosphere, I've always had decent service. And while the pizza is interesting, and good, it's just not GREAT. I hear my friends having foodgasms over this pizza and I wonder if we're eating the same thing. The Franks hot sauce they have on every table is my best friend here, it really helps fill in whatever this pizza is lacking. The salads are fresh, tasty, and... pretty boring. I was thinking a place like Arris' would have some colorful, flavorful takes on how to serve some greens, but I was really disappointed. They have a solid Greek salad. They have a lot of solid items. But I'm never blown away like I'm expecting to be. The gooey butter cake is honestly to die for though. I could feel insulin and glucose flood my veins with each bite, but it was wonderful. Just... I started coming to Arris during my Drury days - nothing beats the Sunday buffet especially when you're in company of close family! Now that I'm in Miami, I find myself craving the delicious pizza. Thankfully my friend decided to get married in Springfield so I could cure the craving - which I gluttonously did. I was parked and ready to enter opening time on Sunday. Pizza, salad, and pasta buffet for $8? Screw the pasta and salad, I saved all my room for their glorious pizza - bbq chicken is my fave, with close second to pepperoni. I'm pretty sure the cheese/high quality ingredients is what sets the taste apart. The service is killer and the man behind the buffet is a sweetie. Side Note: I was anticipating this meal for weeks, prepping my boyfriend for the best pizza of his life. We got in a minor dispute and he WITH HELD eating here to spite me. 20 minutes later (can I get a what what) we were back, in the car, eating take out Arris. This boy needs to learn soon that I.AM.ALWAYS.RIGHT! ESPECIALLY when it comes to damn good pizza! read more

I was anti-Arris when I moved here because everyone raved about it and said, "It's like St. Louis style pizza." Traumatic memories of Imo's and Cecil Whittaker's consumed me, and I swore off ALL thin crust pizza for well over a decade. it took delicious chicago style thin crust pizza and places like Monical's in central Illinois to convince me that thin crust didn't have to be bad. That being said, I still swore Arris off, knowing that people associated it with St. Louis style pizza. Well, after 18 months of living here, I finally gave it a whirl a few months ago, and you know what? I don't hate it. Nay, in fact I like it for thin crust pizza. It's a thin crust, yes, but I feel like that's where the comparison with St. Louis style pizza stops (and I should know; I grew up dreading the nights of St. Louis style pizza at my house with that glue-like cheese and the weird herbs and the, no I refuse to remember anymore!). The cheese may be a blend, but it's closer to regular pizza cheese than it is to straight provel. The topics are fresh and to some extent unique (hello, gyro meat and greek sausage), and the sauce is, in my opinion, a good amount for a thin crust pizza. Overall, I'm pleased with myself for getting past my St. Louis style pizza fears and trying Arris because it is a truly viable option for thin-crust pizza in town. read more

Probably the best pizza in Springfield. Get the house special. Pizza with ground chuck may sound weird but it's absolutely delicious. My only gripe is that they don't take reservations.
