Our family has known the Armstrong family for generations. They recently moved the pet store back to their previous location and WOW what a pleasant shopping experience. I enjoy their knowledge of what foods are best for my dog and cats. Thanks Armstrongs (and Will also) Visited today with questions about what kind of food were the last few purchases of dog food. Alex checked. Ok. Told him my dog was experiencing a lot of itching lately. We discussed all options and then he asked if I fed her "people" food and I had to admit a few times. A piece of my peanut butter and jelly toast. Oops. We Agreed that might be the trouble. I bought my regular dog food. Also some peanut butter tasting snacks. I know in my heart that is the problem. I'll stop those snacks and replace with the new ones. Which, by the way, I tested the minute I got home. My dog loved them. read more

I am very pleased and happy that I have been able to use our local pet store to purchase our frozen dog food. I called and asked if they would be able to get this certain food at a certain price I have been getting it out of the area and they said they would! How is that for great customer service! one who wants to keep my money local. However I am also not wanting to break my wallet. Kudos to Armstrong's Pet World!!! read more

I love this place. We have been coming here for years. They are always so helpful and have great tips and tricks for your fur-family members. If they don't have it they will get it for you. I don't feel rushed or like I'm inconveniencing them. They always have pig ears which are our dogs favorite. I would much rather give this place my money than the other pet stores in town. read more

So I just adopted this cat at the animal shelter in Atwater near Merced. He is an amazing five-month-old baby and the staff was incredibly helpful they actually introduced me to Max and I was in need of some special food so I came to these people after searching four stores. Alex one of the store employees was extremely helpful and more than generous with some food samples which came in incredibly handle it handy! Can't say enough about the customer service! Thank you so much for the samples because apparently my max really loves seafood. See you soon read more

This is a decent pet store, I bought a small chuck-it! That I needed Armstrongs to special order for me (Not a lot of Chihuahua retrievers around) no extra charge, arrived on time very smooth... I recommend much more than chain stores. read more

Wonderful stores, awesome and helpful people. It is a pleasure to shop at a local family owned business that knows us and our pets and is always so eager to help us with our pet needs! read more

This place had a variety of cool stuff to look at. They had fish stuff, turtles, guinea pigs, cat and dog supplies, etc. It was awesome! I came here to check out the shots. The lady here ran out of shots, so she was nice enough to call her other store (run by her husband) to see if he had any. Luckily, he did, so my boyfriend and I drove over there, got the shot, came back to this store for the trial bags of food for our dog, and got Libby's Peanut Butter snack/treats. It was recommended to us. The packaging is so cute! The owners' dog is on it, which I thought was ingenius! The bag was only $5.99. Here, they offer rabies shots among other shots on Saturdays from 4:30pm-6pm for $11 each. Sooo much cheaper than other places! The staff was super nice and extremely helpful! Awesome store! read more

The staff here are so friendly and helpful!! I have come here a few times to look for and/or buy food for my sick cat who has really bad allergies. He has had issues with bladder problems that diet can help with (prescription has corn in it) and they were able to find me a food for him that has no corn in it (because of his allergies) that is also good for his bladder problem. I went in to buy the food this week and walked around to look at the rest of the store. They have fish and other little critters, like snakes, turtles, birds, frogs, and guinea pigs. All the animals look really healthy. I would definitely buy a pet from this store. You can tell they really care for the animals and care about their business. I will be back to purchase my next bags of good from them. read more

I feel they should sell pet supplies only. The employees at the Merced store seem to be very open to learn more about proper husbandry and ethics, whereas their boss, Roy, seems to not fully understand anything beyond the fish section. (Which, by the way, always has dead or dying fish.) He told me the employees didn't know what they were doing, and said that hatchling corn snakes were fine with heat lights only and no belly heat, this following the death of a snake due to internal scale rot from not having belly heat to digest her food. Three out of six of their corn snakes are now dead. One of which they didn't even realize until its jaw was found. He was very rude and quick to become hostile and even swore at us, saying, "this is a fucking pet store, we have what we need." All because we walked in with a heat pad, offering it to them as a "donation." I will not be buying anything from this store again, and I will be sure people know how their animals are treated. Especially the rats, whom often have lice, mites, and severe respiratory distress. (Though this is moreso due to their supplier.) This is deeply upsetting to me, because I very much love this store and the employees are great; very helpful, very knowledgeable about nutrition, and seriously kind. I can tell they love these animals and want what's best for them, even paying out of pocket to help them. I feel the issue is management. read more

I bought a couple of Tarantulas from Armstrong's Pet World and it was only to rescue them. The staff and owners of the "little shop of horrors" are completely incapable of caring for their "products." When I went to the store for the first time I was excited to see what they had, but after seeing the way treat their animals I never wanted to come back. However, I felt it was my duty to rescue the poor spiders that had the misfortune of being purchased by Armstrong's. The shop had a A. avic species of tarantula which requires humid conditions and branches for it to climb as they are a species that live in tree tops. The cage it was in was barely enough for a ground dwelling species. The poor thing was huddled up in one corner and would never move. I purchased the little spider in order to give it the proper conditions it deserved and needed. They recently opened a shop in Merced and I had high hopes that they had learned more about the inverts that they irresponsibly decided to keep stock of. They still have absolutely no clue what they are doing and they refuse to take any advice that could help them as a shop and save the lives of the Tarantulas they have. On 3 separate occasions I warned them that keeping a sponge in the water dish can collect mold which can get into the spiders' lungs and eventually kill them (which in turn costs them more money). Each time they told me they would "take it under consideration." Today I went in to again to buy crickets for my other Tarantulas and to ask that they take out the sponges for the sake of the tarantulas' health ( there was mold forming in the enclosures), and this time I was faced with a completely unnecessary hostility. They simply told that they were not going to change their ways and it was none of my business. They treat the spiders like unfeeling products, and they do not care at all whether they live or die. They are the cheapest place in town to buy crickets but I refuse to support them any further and I'd rather pay 3x as much and buy from PetSmart. Unfortunately I cannot to afford to buy all of the Tarantulas and give them proper homes, but if I did they would just buy more that would then be forced to suffer until someone who knows what they're doing comes along to save them. Their blatant disregard for the health of their animals and refusal to take advice from a longtime hobbyist is more than enough reason to never shop there again. read more

This is my "non-chain store" go to pet store from Merced to Modesto. Don't have what you're looking for? No problem, they'll order it & call you when it gets there. Their prices are consistent with what you would pay online. Good people, clean store. read more

If i could give this place 0 stars i would. I bought feeder fish from there and 2 of my fish died immediately. I thought it was a coincidence so i cleaned the tank and took all proper precautions. I waited about a month then bought some more feeder fish. My last fish died within 24 hours. I told the owner, Tom, and he got angry and defensive and told me there was no way it was his fish. I wasn't expecting anything from him i was just letting him know there is a problem. Later i talked to another employee, the person i usually deal with when i shop there, and he told me the owner got like that because this isn't the first time they've had this problem and he's tired of having to replace people's fish. I saw another review that addressed the way the animals in the shop are treated and that reviewer was correct. I thought about purchasing some birds from the Merced shop and the birds look very sick. They don't sing or move and they have bald patches in their feathers. I will never shop at this place again and i do not recommend it. read more

I could buy my dog food at Pet Smart or some other chain, but come here instead because I really like the customer service here.

Always helpful, with lot of stuff in small store, and they have shot clinics on Saturday afternoons. Call for exact times.

I feel like this should be an animal supply store and not a pet store. After going into their shop i have noticed on several occasions that their animals are not in good health. I've seen flea's on their rabbits that were crawling across their face, dead fish quite frequently and their reptiles always look to be in a depressing and sickly state with lacking set up's. When asking the associates about it they seemed generally concerned but there was never a change. I also talked to a man named Roy? Who seemed to be the manager there and treated me rudely and with a lot of disrespect when just offering advice. It saddens me to see the animals in these conditions as an animal owner. I really hope to see a change in management or have them hire associates with knowledge about proper care for animals. I will not be going back there again. read more
