OMG, she reminded me when I started menstruating, the ache, pains, bloating, discomfort, kind of losing my marbles of those feelings for the first time. I felt bad for my Sombra even tho SHE was going through a change, and only me, her mommy, had to act very, very fast to try and figure out how can I get her back to feeling somewhat better temporarily. I couldn't wait for Amazon to deliver a day or two later. I called Petsmart Merced, spoke to Jonathan and he quickly guided me with some products they may have in stock. Once I arrived, another staffer directed me to the right isle and I was able to view what I believed my kitty needed but I needed Jonathan's feedback too and WE both picked up the same product. Grooming was horrible and they absolutely don't care. The first time we took our dog there we were very happy. The second time we got a different groomer and although she had written instructions on what was done before she just shaved the entire dog. Even her ears are gone. Do they know nothing about dogs and don't realize this breed has long ears. Did not follow even one instruction. It'll be a year before her hair is back to normal. I took my Husky in on July 21st 2023. I picked him up 3 hours later and he looked like crap. We brush him every single day so he always looks good. The girl shaved him in spots on his hips and tail. I have been coming to this store since it first opened. Not only did I buy my turtles here but all their accessories and necessities. Every body is always friendly, and polite. But recently I, my sister and nephew visited the store to buy some new family members (gold fish) . Stephanie , the person who helped us . Gave my sister and I a look from head to to toes. I've never had any issues the girl who would cut my dogs hair always did an amazing job unfortunately she left so I got a new girl.I just left their store today and this is how my dog looks, she explained to me that my dog wouldn't let herself but?? I've never had issues before and this is how I picked her up today. Maybe my dog just didn't like this worker I'm not sure but they should had just called me right away instead of doing half the job! Needed some cat litter so we popped over to Petsmart and had a terrible experience. Behind us in the checkout line there was a mentally handicapped girl who was holding a bunny rabbit that she told us that she had bought from the swap meet. A lady with whatever animal shelter the store had visiting came up and began accosting the girl saying "You're not leaving this store with this rabbit I will not let you." My girlfriend quickly intervened and asked if there was a problem. The woman stated that the little girl was planning on eating the rabbit and she could not keep it. Regardless of what moral stance the woman was trying to make, the rabbit was the PERSONAL property of the little girls and it was not the older women's place to accost her. Went to store after picking my mom up from dialysis. It was 109 that day in Merced temperature wise. My mom asked me to stop and pick up a container of dog treats for her dogs which mean the world to here but if anyone has ill and older parents she wanted it right now not the next day or later. So I pull in and it's so hot outside even with the ac on. So since she was weak from dialysis I pull into the only spot that has shade so the car will stay even cooler for her with ac on and her being in shade. Remember I only need one thing and it's like on the 1st or second isle from front. The guy at front says sir u are parked in the drive up spot are u here for a drive up order? I say no, I explain my situation and say I only need one thing and there is another spot empty. He reluctantly says ok. Than the manager comes up and says sir u can't park there. I explain again and he say I must move or he will refuse service since it was not fair to customers even though there was no one else in other spot and my situation. I really like this store. The employees are nice and the selection is good. I, however, would not recommend adopting a pet through the Merced Humane Society. The humane society is very, very, very unorganized and many of their volunteers are rude. I highly recommend adopting from the Merced County Animal Shelter (pound). We have adopted a dog from both the shelter and the humane society's and the shelter was 1,000 times more professional. read more

I usually don't write reviews but I saw someone wanting a review for the training so I thought I would write one up. So I think I go here way too often. I go to get my dog groomed once a month, I go for training once a week, and I come here to buy dog food whenever I run low. The groomers did a good job. I was worried that they wouldn't take one of my dogs because he's so big but they took him and he ended up smelling like rice krispies later hahaha (oatmeal bath). They assessed him right before his bath to see what he needed and didn't need. It took about 2 hours. Though the people were very friendly, when I went to pick up my dog I saw one of the groomers being very mean to one of the dogs. Maybe I'm just sensitive but I thought it was pretty rude the way she was treating it especially when there was a customer in the front. The trainers are exceptionally friendly. I take both of my dogs there. I'm currently enrolled in the intermediate course which is the second level. For the beginners course, I thought it would be more "fixing the problem your dog has" but it's more like basic training such as sit, come, and down. Though my dog behaves a lot better, he still gets really hyper around other dogs, which was the problem that I wanted to fix. I feel that it's more of a part on the owner to consistently teach the dog "no, dont do that". I honestly think the dog has learned more of what I thought the problem was when I was at home but I enjoyed the fact that my dog would sit on command. The training is positive reinforcement based so you use a lot of dog treats. This can be both good and bad. Good, the dog sits when you have food. Bad because it's so used to receiving the food it only does the action for the food, which right now is both of my dog's problem. I believe that if you feel that the dog hasnt improved or learned what you wanted it to, you can retake the course free of charge. I hope this review has somewhat helped? We have three dogs, and we do all of our shopping (and dog training) here. We are in this store at least 12 times a year if not more, and we've been here for the last 3 years. Below are (my) positives and negatives: + The grooming services-- fairly reasonably-priced, our dogs don't seem traumatized when we take them, the staff seem friendly. (it's been about a year since we've groomed them here only because we prefer to save money and do it ourselves) + Staff overall: These are some of the friendliest people I've seen in Merced. Every time we walk in someone greets us with a smile, which is nothing short of a miracle. They must like working here-- or at least that's the way it seems, which is great! I've also never heard a manager chewing out an employee, and I've never come across a rude or immature staff member (there is one exception below). + Training: For what it is (group training in a "big box store"), it's good. You will teach your dog to sit, stay, "leave it" and wait, but maybe they won't obey you when you're doing this outside of the store environment, depending on temperament, practice, and the age at which you train your dog. For us, the BEST part of training was learning that one of our dogs really needed to be mentally challenged in order to get tired. Walks are not enough for her. So now we have learned tricks to have her do. Obviously an obstacle course would be even better, but that would require quite some work/time/money on our part. The staff you end up with might be hit or miss, but that's the way it works. + Food: Because it's a big box store, they have a good selection, including several organic brands. "Pet perks" members (free card) get small discounts on SOME brands. However, on the other side of the coin... - Food: If you want to buy dog food and you're trying to compare for quality, good luck! Even though this is mostly the fault of dog food companies (everyone calls their food "natural" and the labels are not easy to compare with others, especially if you're not really sure who to trust), again, asking a passing staff member is hit and miss. Some will direct you to the "best-sellers" and some will direct you to the newest brand they are carrying-- but not to the highest quality or highest value. In an ideal world, the store would have some sort of rating system in place for shoppers, but I'm sure a big box will never do that. Also, they recently discontinued a brand that we'd been buying, and it's now only available online, which is a pain. - 1 bad experience: So most if not all Petsmarts have enclosed areas where they do the dog training. On a rainy day, my friend and I brought our dogs there to play. Two staff members approached me and told me we couldn't let our dogs meet here as the store could be held liable. I explained that our dogs had met before. They then explained that they could not be off leash. This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard, and here's why: when dogs are on leashes, most are prone to be more aggressive/defensive/etc. That is why dog parks request that you take the leash off of your dog! I had the sense that the staff members were making up rules, or the store has a ridiculous policy. + and one good experience to balance it out: We use a spray collar (it sprays citronella-like stuff at the dog's chin when they bark), and the one we had malfunctioned, and then the replacement one did as well. The staff we talked with there were very helpful about figuring out returns/replacements, which I appreciated. About buying animals here: I recommend going to the animal shelter (which is where they get their dogs and cats from, I believe). There is some controversy about their sale of small pets (gerbils, hamsters, etc.), so if you care about animal rights, consider avoiding those purchases. read more

Tonight my boyfriend and I found ourselves buying a chinchilla at the PetSmart in Merced. We didn't know much about them..but we knew that we wanted one. Robert was AMAZING in helping us! He gave us tons of tips and helpful info for our new fur baby! Staff is very friendly and this store has a large selection of items. I am removing 2 stars because I have not had a good experience with their grooming services. I paid for a full hair cut and was upset that my dog didn't even look like her hair was trimmed. On another occasion I brought her in for a bath and brush and my groomer left so many nails unclipped, saying that they were unable to do so. I gave this place one more shot and was shocked to see my dog with a cone on her head with 3 groomers holding her down. She is only 5 pounds and previous groomers have never had a problem. I have brought my dog to local family owned grooming places and have never had the problem of being unhappy with their services. read more

I've never tried any other pet grooming service other than Petsmart. I've been taking my now 5 year old Maltese there since I've had her (about 3 years). She is my first dog and I wasn't sure how I wanted her hair cut and the staff was very helpful in determining how I might like it done. My dog was adopted from another family who never got her groomed therefore she was very matted and I had to sign a disclaimer that they may have to shave the spots that were too matted. I was a little worried that she would be too shaved but they did a great job! They keep a record of how they cut her hair last and recommend coming back every 6 weeks but I like to go about every 12 weeks. I did change it up the next time I took her and asked to keep her hair a little longer and now we just bring her in and they do their magic. I'm not one to request a certain person to cut her hair either. All the staff do an amazing job. She always smells good and topped with bows in her hair when she's done. They are always finished within the 3 hours that they quote. Also, they require an up-to-date rabies record on file at all times.
