Talked w a guy who said that he was sold out of the particular plant, and I was sort of bummed, but accepted the fact that after trying another vendor, no luck would be on my side. After noodling around the store for other cool stuff, I get this "Hey!" and low and behold he found 2 Cousin It plants for me! I was surprised and happy he found them! He went out of his way to look for this particular plant and let me know that they had them! I went home happy and just stoked that this kind of customer service STILL existed in this world! I needed a few herbs and vegetables to get my summer garden up to speed. Rather than go to the big box guys, I decided to shop at the Armstrong Garden Center on 10th Street. This is a local, employee owned store. Historically, it was called Park Nursery, and has served Long Beach residents for as long as I can remember (long time!). They have a wonderful selection of herbs, vegetables, and decorative landscaping plants. The staff is so nice!! And knowledgeable. It is a very pleasant experience to be there. I wandered into the building where the florist is, and found an amazing selection of quality gift items....plants, foods and home decor. Who knew ? One employee in particular stands out above the rest: her name is Maya, and she's like a breath of fresh air. She's one of those employees who is genuinely happy to see you and always willing to help. She helped me pick out some beautiful marigolds and alyssum, and explained the best way to keep them healthy. It is the largest independent garden retailer in the country, employee owned. This location in Long Beach is on 10th street and has a large dedicated angled parking lot. Most of the plants are outside, but they have a large indoor area for houseplants and the instruments to take care of them. Our neighbors love growing and taking care of various plants, so we all stopped in after an early dinner to see what they have. I've always had amazing customer service experiences at LB Armstrong. Associates greet you with a smile and you can tell they truly love what they are doing. Enter the gate on 10th St. and there will be ample parking, although this store is always busy! This is a great place to stroll and much longer than you might think from the outside. Towards the front you will find fountains and shade plants, succulents and flowering species in the middle, and trees toward the back. I believe this location even offers classes, which I will have to check out one of these weekends! Houseplants can be found inside along with a cornucopia of planters and gardening tools. I recently found a couple of telescoping grow lights here on sale, and my bonsai and rubber plant are thriving! read more

Great variety, well presented and set up but because of one male cashier I probably won't be back to this store. Fantastic store, though.

I used to like this nursery since it has a large variety of plants and it is convenient. However, the staff here needs to work on their customer service skills. My boyfriend was buying soil and he prefers to pay top dollar for the best quality. The male cashier said to a coworker (right while my boyfriend was standing right there checking out) "I can't believe people pay for this expensive shit, it's no different than the other bags" Very disappointing attitude to have at a neighborhood business. I have been here multiple times and the most recent visit last week, the female cashier made a large sigh when she had to add the phone number for the points. Whoever is training or hiring these staff needs to do a better job. They will lose business because of it. They have already lost mine. read more

If you're looking for something, Armstrong probably has it. My kiddo wanted a kumquat tree and after calling many nurseries, Armstrong answered and was very friendly and after a short hold I was told they had eight trees in stock! We went for the citrus tree and also left with a pomegranate and some strawberry plants. I went to this location years back when I needed a bunch of air plants for some hanging pots. Wow, wow, wow. All I can say is that I'm impressed with this Armstrong location. Maya helped me with picking my lemon and lime trees. She answered all my questions, and I asked a bunch of questions (in the rain no less). She even helped me with taking my plants to the register. Jesus, who rang me up gave me so many pointers and tips to help my new plant babies grow and thrive. He drew me a diagram and a list of product to use. Jesus took me to the back to show me the other plants he's growing. I was amazed! He has a lemon bonsai plant that is a smaller plant. Very impressed. He took the time to teach and educate me. I come here from OC to buy plants, not just because they still sell citrus trees and have a variety of wonderful healthy plants. Its the employees here who treat you with such care and respect. The Manager Kevin Kim went above and beyond to help me select 7 rose trees, trim off the dead leaves and then, with Jesus , packed them with such care for the long drive back to OC. All the roses came back in excellent condition with all the leaves and flowers intact. I am remodeling my yard, and he spent so much time to address to help me select other plants as well. Armstrong's in LB has an assortment of plants & gardening items. I reserved "Pink Lemonade" blueberry plats & received an email stating my item was ready to be picked up. Finding the blueberry plant was a breeze & I soon had it in my possession. Areas are easily distinguishable, so as not to get lost. An array of fountains & garden sculptures cater to almost everyone's taste. Service has been good when I've been here. Need help loading? No problem. Pot your plant? You got it. They take good care of you, here. Parking is via private lot & street. Armstrong Garden Center is a great place to accomplish your gardening needs. The plants here are really high quality! There is less selection of more niche and exotic varieties compared to some other shops like the MASSIVE Roger's gardens. However, most of Armstrong's plants are their own varieties. It's a beautiful, quiet location with great deals on soil, compost, and accessories!
